Brrr, my computer says 5 degrees here and 1 degree at Detroit metro airport. But it's the wind that bites. It's down some to around 20MPH + the gust. I was bad today as far as training goes, I did not play, sorry.

Brutus I can wait for  you on the front porch and I think it's safe to say the banilla will not melt, but don't take to long getting here with the thingy...S.J.

The TV says it's 3 degrees in Downtown Canton, Ohio with a windchill of minus 19.    Brrr!

The wind has been really strong here today.  Blew the door to the garage open.

Good Evening.  Well, all the company is gone, and now it's time to deal with the mess.  Both kids are a little sick, but seem to be on the mend.  I think Kevin must have left that door open again, or Chief, we have another Yankee invasion!  Temps to drop to 29 tonight and will be around 50 tomorrow.  According to the computor, it will be back up to the 70s.

Brutus, be careful or you'll be on train restriction!

Hope everyone has a blessed week ahead.

Good morning all, Closed school here again today. It was because of the high winds and drifting snow. Some of our back roads were down to 1 lane and that isn't safe for the buses. It's also cold with a windchill of 15 below. We'll see if we can open schools tomorrow! There's a lot of snow just north of us. Between here and Buffalo there is about 16 inches. Going to take my wife to work now. Have a great day everyone and stay warm. Tom

Only minor snow showers here @ 4,000' in the North Carolina High Country this morning. But still at 3 degrees with 20-30 mph wind. Just filled my 1,000 gallon underground propane tank and may need a bailout when the bill arrives.

Family coming here for Christmas which means I have got to find some track for my 2-1/2 year old grand daughters Thomas/Percy operation[dismantled my layout here early in '03]. I soldered  a continous bus to each  section of her RealTrax oval and screwed it to a 6" wide plywood roadbed. Only way that RealTrax is useful. My son just hangs the oval on the wall when not in use.

Unfortunately no train stores in nearby East Tennessee so I'm off to the Train Loft in Winston-Salem for some Lionel tublar curve sections--------found a lot of tublar straight track in the basement.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI but the temps are really low.  Lucas and his girlfriend and wife and I watched an old Christmas tradition at our house.  Several years ago, the wife and I helped with a local theater production of "Tuna Christmas".  We got a tape of it as a thank you for our work.  It is hilarious.  If you ever get a chance to see the show, it is a riot.  There are some poignant moments, but one of the characters has a small monologue that reflects on the true meaning of the season.  I think Lucas' girlfriend enjoyed it.  It had been a couple of years since we had watched it, and I had forgotten how funny it was.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all. Need a fresh pot 'o joe today. Just got back from dropping off the middle boy at wrestling practice. So thankful he has something to do over break. It's -7 out -- before the wind chill. Sigh. Had two young women who work at our church over last eve. for a Christmas dinner. The bride pulled out all the stops: candles, fire in the fireplace, gifts, roast beast. Think they felt appreciated.  Hope to do a little work this morning - wrap up a class, grade another, and play with the layout. Want to try to get a shot of the engine house track layout for your advice.

Good Afternoon

Still cold but no wind today so all is well, almost. My two year old electric blanket, made in China controller took a dump. Called Sunbeam and they said it was still under warranty but that I have to return the whole thing blanket too. The controller and blanket have to be calibrated, they say. So I bought a new one this morning and will send the other one back for repair.. I could only find one brand, yep Sunbeam. Lots of traffic today but the stores were not really crowded, found our #2 daughter in law shopping at Sears so we took the boys to ride the mall christmas train. Shes the lucky one #2 son still has a job. Paints cars for a Dodge dealer bump shop. Owner told employees  if Dodge goes he will still be selling somebodys cars. TTFN and stay warm....S.J.

Good Afternoon everyone.  Well, it was actually cold this morning...down to 34 when I came in.  I think my skin is getting thin.  Anyway, been  dealing with administration...not my favorite people.  I was supposed to attend the services for the baby who had died, but was stuck with mid-level management.

I have ordered a bunch of items to do some repairs on some of my collection.  Picked up some superflex wire and some truck sets to replace the ones on a car I recently picked up.  Will use the broken ones for some scenery.  Plan on spending a little time this week while the kids play with their toys to work on the layout and on the cars mentioned.

On the work front, the last guy we interviewed is taking the position, but again, the Georgia Medical Board will hold the process up till the middle of February before the license is issued.  You would think they could work faster, but having acquired licenses in several states, I know that this is typical.

God Bless,

Dennis

Took Trailblazer to get oil change this morning before trip to Columbus Thursday.  That sucker takes seven quarts of oil, nice little surcharge for the extra quarts.  Oh well, better than repairs.

When they checked the air pressure in the spare it was at six (yep six) pounds of pressure.  Glad they checked it.  Would have been a real bummer if I needed it and it was flat too!

When I came home, I checked the pressure in the Impala's tires, they were low too.  Real pain getting air compressor to work when it is this cold.  Have to run extension cord into laundry room as the circuit breaker keeps tripping when I plug into a garage outlet.  Never have liked the wiring in this house.

Be sure to check your tire pressures before you set off for Grandma's house.

Bought gas for $1.149 today.  (Had fuel perks discount of forty cents a gallon)

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our big neighborhood Christmas Party tonight.  We will be running trains heavy duty tonight.

During the de-bug and testing yesterday,  Mike Trash Track did it again.  This time the un-coupler section started un-coupling cars without moving the lever.  Disconnected the activation lever.  It stll un-coupled the cars.   Removed un-coupling section and replaced it with a 10" straight.  You won't believe what was causing the problem.  A small insulated wire's insulation slid and a bare section of wire caused the activation.  Again, don't these guys ever test anything?!!

 Greg--

Just a reminder, always check your tire pressures before you drive.  If you do drive, let the vehicle sit for two hours before you check the pressures.  One always wants to check "cold" tire pressures.

Good evening folks.  Been really busy with work, shopping, helping son with thesis, concerts at school etc. Haven't taken the time to post but have been trying to keep up. Tomorrow is the last school day for us, an early dismissal.  Staff can leave as soon as the last bus is gone, so I expect the place to clear out by about 1:00 PM.  Mostly finished shopping.  Have to order one more gift on-line, but it is a download so it will be here in time.  The Mrs. wants new maps for her GPS.

LAZ - High Wind Day!! 2 hours late. Hoo-rah.

TomSchmidt - Good to see you posting again.   It was cold here this AM but not windchill -15.  Ouch.

Stay Warm!!

Evening all.  Yes, good to see Tom S on the forum again.  COLD!!!!  YANKEE BLUE BELLY COLD.  Now that is cold.  Was 31 when driving back from the lake at 4:30 PM.  Went fishing and caught tons of fish.  [you believe I went fishing, you are a dumb Yankee]  Suppoe to get into the upper teens by morning.  Then warm up.  Lake was at full pool.  Had been low for months.  Buddy's dock had floated sideways.  Got it pulled back and tied off.  Came home to meal of country style steak with gravy and onions, noodles and little greeen peas.  Got a lot of things to do tomorrow and a new Post Office ribbon cutting at 10:00.  The Mom comes at 3 PM to pick up toys and etc for kids.  Stay warm and SNOW on Columbus OH.

Light rain, cloudy and cool all day today with more promised for the rest of the week.  Sorry to hear of the passing of the minister's baby.  Prayers for those that mourn.

Talked with a friend of mine this afternoon who lives in Anacortes, Washington.  He says they have two feet of snow which is very unusual that close to the ocean.

Christmas shopping is just about in the tank due to bad weather and short time left.  I'll try to get out a little tomorrow.  Good night all.  Talk to you later.

Good Evening from cold (10º F) Southern Ohio,

I was off today and working night shift tonight.  I replaced some outdoor lighting at church today as we will need the lighting for Midnight Mass coming and going.  I wish the lights would have burned out when it was warmer!

Bride renewed my subscription to CTT for Christmas!!!  I guess if I don’t get the Circus Train, this will have to do.  Local Hardware Store had the Lemax stuff for 50% off.  Neat stuff.  I may try after Christmas and see if they are priced lower and I may pick up a few for a Christmas Layout for next year that I am thinking about.

Dennis – My prayers are with your pastor’s family and friends, and the baby.

I’ll check back in in the wee hours

May God bless

Jim

Gotcha RT - well, maybe we'll just go back a while and put the cats back?  Then, of course, come back to get the cake Laugh

Prewar cars showed up and they are in pretty darn good shape!  I need to find a replacement brake wheel and axle for the hopper on one end, but other than that they are really nice!  Got the oil and grease from the basement and will oil everything and run it a little in a while, before bedtime.  Kids are off school and it's screwing up my routine, lol!  Signed up for OT this Saturday, but otherwise after Wednesday I'll be off for 11 days!  I plan to have the basement bedroom drywall complete, air vents in place and once the wall between the bedroom and workshop is finished I will want lights in there!

Also, want to Run Trains, lol!

Tardis time!

Good Evening/Morning

FINALLY, got my contribution to the SPF up.  Hope I didn't take up too much space.

Now..... How many days does it rain here??  10 days per year MAYBE !!!

How often does my brother come down to visit ?? Once maybe twice a year !!!

So What Happens ????

We decide to go out for brunch, get in our car, wife opens the passenger window to clear the moisture, the window doesn't go back up!!!  Have to take it to garage, just how much is a window regulator cost?????  $500    Now this is the wifes car, so what do we do????  Buy a $500 window regulator.  If it was my car?  How many colors of cardboard are their?  What really ticks me off, is that had to replace a regulator in our van this past spring, they said the same thing.  I go online find them for $50-$90, call the garage, they say. We can't warranty that !  That's OK no warranty needed!  Ask them today about aftermarket, they say can't get them, they don't make them.  Now, I'm at work, she's at home, they have the car.  So I tell him quite calmly, fine you put in that $500 regulator, and then after the car is picked up, you can erase our account from your system and our 4 cars.  I'm over a barrel on this one, and you can have it, but it just cost you a significant customer.  So he tried to justify it, and I said justify all you want, you can get me once, but you won't get me again!  So enjoy!

My little rant is over!

Hope everyone is near ready for Christmas, and the weather becomes favorable.

Morning to All,

It's a chilly 17 degrees today, not nearly as cold as yesterday AM, a whole 8 degrees warmer.  The big difference is the wind.  There's no wind compared to 20+ mph yesterday.

Today is last day for kids. Early dismissal so everyone can leave after the kids go.  Tomorrow we will pack and head to BIL and SIL's house in Northern VA, our son wll meet us there.   We'll have Christmas Eve dinner with them and go to church, then open gifts with them in AM.  After breakfast we will head to sister and BIL's house for my family's Christmas.  Hope nephew enjoys the trains.

Don Baker - I feel your pain. My little leaf mulching incident where my lawn tractor caught fire cost me $549.  Of course a new tractor would have been closer to $1500 if not more. The tractor repair guy is very thorough and very honest.  I have worked with him through the years. Still hurts the wallet this time of year.

Chuck - sorry to hear about your wife's losing her mother.  Never easy at any age.

Dennis - sorry to hear about your Asst. Pastor's child.  Very hard when a child passes, especially this time of year.

Yesterday at school we learned that a 19 yo former student was killed in a car crash eary Sunday AM. Bright, beautiful girl with a heart of gold,  studying to be an elementary teacher.  What a shame.

Well I must be going.  Try to check in later today.

Good Morning all

Getting ready to go home in about an hour.  We were just busy enough last night to make the time pass fast.  The first midnight is a killer Sleepy

Don - What kind of car has a $500 regulator?  Something I've done before is gone to junk yards went for the part and helped the yard guy remove the piece, so I have a clue on how to take apart mine at home.  I figure all the parts going down the road are used, so why not get parts that are already used?  (Remember I have American Flyers so I keep them running with "used" parts all the time.Wink

Chuck - prayers for you Pam and her mom.  She will need you as she grieves.

A fresh cup of joe for the drive home but not so much as you wake up before you want to! Shock

May God bless

Jim
