I worked in Kirkwood when I was in high school and off and on from 1998-2006 or so (my employer would move my office in and out of Kirkwood). Meacham Park was bad news even during the early 1990s. I knew people who lived there, and hooligans from there would come into the restaurant where I worked and cause trouble. I'm sure it was a problem much longer than that, because the problems I knew in the '90s don't happen overnight.
And less than a mile away you've got spectacular Victorian houses where accomplished professionals live. If you have to ask the price of those houses, you can't afford it. Outside of Meacham Park, Kirkwood is very much an upper/upper-middle class, affluent suburb.
The mayor is the one in the hospital, either in serious or critical condition, although the early reports certainly did make it sound like the mayor was one of the deceased.
The city attorney is a real hero in this. He threw chairs at the attacker and knocked him down, which gave him and some others enough time to escape. Then soon after that the police were able to get in and kill the attacker.

I have worked with diesel engines a bit and you must have very good battery power or you will have trouble starting. Diesels are a higher compression engine than gasoline so you have to overcome it by having a stronger battery or batteries in the case of GM engines. Sometimes to jump off a GM diesel you need two jumper batteries, one at each battery position. Hopefull you have the true diesel engine and not a gasoline conversion engine that GM did using an Oldsmobile 350 gasoline block with diesel heads on it, reason I say this is that the 350 Olds will blow the heads clean off or put a rod through the side of the block because it is a gasoline engine block and this has actually happened in the past, around 1987 to be exact. I think that GM has recognized their mistake from the 1980's and isn't doing this anymore.
How to tell if it is an Olds 350 block is that the distributor sits up front of the carburator on the intake manifold while a Chevy 350 has the distributor in the rear or by the firewall.

Morning all. Supposed to be sub-sub-zero this weekend. Maybe this'll make me do taxes (and run trains!) I made a good decision yesterday; after fretting about the work I was not getting done, I heeded the youngest who hasn't been outside in days to go in the front yard to play in the snow - Ben's small enough to sled down the 4 ft tall snow mounds at the bottom of the driveway. It was fun whilst the sun was out.Chief, thanks for the photos - how does your drop-down work with your Realtrax?Brutus and Jim Phish, v. sad news about those shootings. This area is still in shock over a mass shooting in a Lane Bryant a few days ago.Sir James, I'm waiting for Brutus to pick me up and we'll be right over. Can I bring Rudy, the wonder dog? Rich, come over to join Roy and me for some commiserating root beers. I've gotten some wise counsel from folks on this board with longer experience with teens.Don, that's tremendous news about the kids club! I know all the work you put into the presentation. Well done.
Wes, great article.I'm in the mood to join Chuck and Mike C in their dining car this morning. What's on the menu?

That was one horrible crime if you ask me! Don't see how anybody can do such a thing, but I know it happens a lot here in this country.
Down here last night on the 10pm news a guy was killed by a train after a Sherriff's deputy arrest, sounds like he was guilty and was trying to run away! How can you not see or here a train as they make a lot of noise going down the track and the ground shakes a little. Also FAU university in Boca Raton is on high alert for a serial killer in the area.
On a more positive note I have been helping a guy over in Lantana(suburb of West Palm Beach about 12 miles south of WPB) area with his train layout and putting it together. Had two 022 switch motors go bad, the solenoid would not move at all even when jumped off with alligotor clips with wires attached, so I reccomended taking the solenoid in for repair. Going to get a price quote today if I can at the local hobby shop in Lantana FL. Still waiting for my trains from Historic Rail.
MORNING ALL
Lite snow showers again and about 28 degrees. My wife is at daughters again today as one kid is sick, too bad as we had plans for today. We are going to be a country full of armed military and there goes our freedom. History repeats as they say.Sad sad sad.
But for now, we still have trains to play with so lets go with that.
Brutus bring the gang anytime, we'll have ice cream, root beer, and Chuck can bring cupcakes. Even peanut butter for Chewy as long as she doesn't hex anyone....Sir James

Can't decide whether to ballast the blue steel bridge or not.
Chuck,When I was running trains with Fife a week or so ago we were talking about this very subject (ballasting on a bridge) and he said the RRs would just do whatever they used for the road material right onto the bridge... unless it was a through truss design.
Good morning all,
It is slightly warmer today with temps in the 40s in SE Indiana. Another school shooting? I am sorry to hear that. As some of you know, my wife works as a substitute teacher, and while she (or the school) has had to deal with that type of situation yet, I could see where that kind of event could easily happen. I just hope it never does.
It was a busy night as Lucas and I both went to the YMCA. I packed up the rest of the trains for the time being, and my wife and I watched "Lost". That was a strange episode last night. Tomorrow is a TCA meet in Indy, and I hope I have good luck there. I had the usual fare on the dining car this most morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

I would say no, don't think it would look right. Need to arrange a visit someday.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cold 30 degrees. Little snow on the ground. Going up to 42 today with cloudy skies.
Today is a not so busy day. I have a few chores to do and then I plan on working on the layout. I have to finish the scenery, that I have been working on. Slow but sure. Can't decide whether to ballast the blue steel bridge or not.
Well, Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.
Y'all have a great Friday.
Chuck
HI GIZ,

Its either late or early??? Went to sleep in the recliner [better known as reclinerizing] at 9:30 and woke up about 30 minutes ago. Off to bed. Carpet is dry and looks great this time. Wasted an afternoon and most of the evening of . Drapes to hang after a County meeting for lunch tomorrow. Off to bed. God bless.
Evening/ Morning all
On night shift, several things in progress so just a quick check in.
Thank you for the prayers for the folks at Notre Dame Elementry. Last I heard the teacher was stable. Shooter swallowed his gun. Still need some major prayers to heal, especally the kids. There was a prayer service at St. Marys, and the service was packed to standing room only. When all else fails we can always rely on God.
Thanks also for the ideas about the current loss on the truck. I will start investigating those ideas as time allows which will be after night shift more than likely.
Need to check on the guys.
May God bless
Jim
Sorry Sir James, was reclinerizing.... Chewy is tuckered out too, so maybe stop by tomorrow? I might pick up Doug and Kurt, maybe Ozzy too? We could run trains over a few root beer floats?
RT, hope that bad weather missed you -did you get a start on the porch?
Already have about $900 wish list for the new Lionel catalog - really it's about $2K, but just went to Disney etc. Son is sick and still coughing, so will probably have to take off tomorrow with him. If so, we'll go back to the doctor to make sure things are getting better - this would be day 3...
Congrats Wes
Prayers out to the noterdame school and the community .
Long day went in to work today at 9am was supose to get off at 6pm but one of our great exemployees now got fired/quit so I was sent home for a few hours so I sould come back and close. So yes I had a 3 hour break in the middle but it still felt like a 12 hour day lol.
Good Evening
It's 10pm here, that means the day is just about done for me. I did a little of this and that today, Found my truck in the snow, read some from a lionel book, watched tv,ran some trains, even remembered to eat. Oh and PS2 golf. I'm plum tuckered. Brutus we got ice cream and root beer.
Good nite Chewy Sir james
I'll be there with family at 10. I recruited another family with two boys to come too. We will see if they show up. They visited my trains a couple of weeks ago and were very excited. I think the parents picked up on their excitement. The dad was especially interested!
Now that you mention it, I have been getting better deals lately at Robbies. We will see how long it lasts!
Not sure if you knew it, but the George that is in there used to be the one who owned the Blue Caboose. Small world!
Give me your list, and I will see what I can do!
See you Saturday,Wes
Buckeye Jim...What a tragedy for the Portsmouth Community. I heard about it this morning while I was at work. Our prayers are with your community.
Looking forward to the train show. My step brother, his daughter and his grandson are all traveling from Indiana to see my trains and go to the show. The grandson has the train bug, big time.
Wes...We plan to be there at 10:00 am on Saturday. Do you still have my cell phone number? BTW, I heard you just became the poster boy for Robbies Hobbies. Do you get a discount? If so I need a few things. Needless to say the article not only helped the train show, but Robbies benefited greatly. You forgot to tell everyone that the frong page of the paper started out, "CUCKOO for CHOO-CHOOS".

I think this will simplify the scenery and make it more realistic as well.

Brent - looks like a great layout to me! Where do those access hatches fit in here?
Evenin' boys. Just finishing up dinner...bar-b-cue ribs on grill.
Wes - Congrats on your article.
Phish - Heard about that tragedy this afternoon. What a selfish act. Still reeling from the Amish schoolhouse incident. Wish I could be in a position to intercede something like that, just once.
STRU_FISH,
It could be a module? My brothers 1998 F 150 had no power for everything, windows, wipers, lights, etc. Took it in and found out that a module had burnt up. Cost was 495 bucks, ouch. Hope it wasn't that good luck.
Remove all of the fuses at the same time then...and add them back in one at a time. It's always the glove compartment...
I would think that everything should be fused, but the fuses are mixed between the incab and engine fuse boxes, right? Anything aftermarket that might not be in the fuse blocks? This is one of those common sense doesn't apply problems, I'm sure.
