Don, Grecian 5 works the best. Use it right after a haircut. Wife worried me for a while. Tried it and felt funny until all the ladies [some a lot younger] started commenting on how much younger I looked for my age. Then a lady at Cablea's the other week made a pass at me. Color the hair. Helps the ego.
Well, curtians and drapes hung. Extra room upstairs about 90% finished. Wife is happy. Now to rest and drink my Coke Zero and watch TV. Did run some trains this AM before going to County meeting and Town Hall. Later.

Thanks for the tips on the truck repair front. I've removed both batteries and had them tested individually and they are within spec. The motor is a 6.5 liter ground up diesel, not the 5.7 gas convert to diesel from the mid 80's. I love the truck so that is why I want to get it fixed beyond the aggravation factor.
Chief- I may get one of those battery maintainers, it sounds like a good idea even after I fix the problem. Thanks for the tip. Is this what you were talking about
Don- Bet it feels good to get the wiring done! When I made my control panel, it is on a ~ 3 foot tether of wires. To neaten things up I took some of the plastic wire wrap coil stuff, and it made things look nice. BTW, don't forget to fix the lamp in the living room.
I had to laugh about your wife asking you to dye your hair. You could always say that the older you look the younger she looks.

Well, Don, since you asked................ Your wife should be thankful that you HAVE hair. I have a full head of hair. A little gray on the sides. Now, you may want to get a color washed in and then you might want to have high light streaks put in. That would look good. You must really be looking very old. OR you could just put a bag over your head. OR, don't go anywhere with the wife. OR you could just put some motor oil on it. BUT, you really should do something. HEY, tell your wife that she looks older than you.

Doug, here is the dropdown. I cut the tabs off of the Realtrax and bent back the connectors. Wires under the dropdown connect to the tack section on the dropdown [I did jumpers to the common on both sides of the track section and one variable [I still call it +] to the center rail. This arrangement is temporary but works great. Have not had time to find the trasnom latches that you will see in the OGR Backshop video. When I do, will probably use them. The 2X4 on piano hinge works great. The plywood section assures that the top section locks in place at the same height each time. The deadbolt type latch just holds the 2X4 in place when dropdown is down. Piano hinge on drop section is commercial grade. I tried cutting the track sections and they were not smooth and in the curves this caused problems with some light cars. That is why I used dropdown instead of a liftup on power cylinders. This works great and is easy. My make a bridge there on top of the dropdown.

Hi all, The undersea cable and Sat links are still up and running. I have been rather busy with work of late.
Sorry to hear about all these shootings. Several of these sort of incidents led to hand guns and assault rifles/machine guns being banned here. Not sure if this has been a good or bad thing. The bad guys always seem to be able to get hold of a shooter.
Haven't got much done on the layout as such but I just finished wiring the surround system in the gamesroom. And the TV guys have put in a feed from a satellite box in the house.
I used 60 Meters of speaker cable! The surround amp and DVD live on a shelf under the layout. Cable runs under the layout and out through the wall to the garage then conduit run up to the loft and back into the gamesroom loft space and drops through the ceiling in each corner to a wall mounted speaker. SVideo cable follows a similar path.
Need to save up for a ceiling bracket and powered screen for our ebay bargain projector.

I have a chev 02 diesel with 2 batteries and the same thing was happen to me if I did not start it for 2 days it would not start and I had to charge the batteries to get it to start it turned out that one of the batteries was bad so I replaced them both (5 years old) and that fixed it. That's not saying that is what is wrong with yours. But just a thought. Gary
For batteries, not bad ones, go to a battery speciality store [here, we have Batteries Plus] and get a Battery Maintainer. It is aplastic block that plugs into an outlet or dropcord. It has a long lead that is polarized. It comes with a short pigtail for hard wiring to your battery posts [ring terminals] and a spare with clips. It actually does the same thing as our high $$$ battery chargers [goes through three stages, charge, desulfation and maintenance float]. The biggest difference is it is not a high amp charger [about .75]. Will keep batteries fully charged without trickle charging [which damages batteries]. This will hold them at about 13.5 V and that is safe to maintain batteries for over a year at the time without using the battery. Thye run about $39. I saw them on sale at Cabela's for $29.
Been using them on riding mower, farm tractor and other battery cranked equipment. Great for show cars, motorcycles, jet skis and snowmoblies. All that is attched to the battery is the short pigtail.
Thanks for the update, Dave. The story is different every time I hear it at least in some details. Grady Woods was my boss when I was about 13 (Carter was president) and I worked for the Commerce Bank of Kirkwood. It was my job to mow the little bits of lawn, polish the metal on the drive throughs, and also to mow and clean up an empty lot across the street, where an old school was knocked down. They later built a new bank on the empty lot and the old one was torn down and replaced with a new building. This is just a few blocks up from one of my favorite hobby stores around here, the Hobby Station. Grady was an old man back then and Meechum (Meacham?) had been a middle class neighborhood in keeping with the area around it, although the population was generally Blacks versus the whites around there. Well, they moved in on Grady and told him to sell them a bunch of his property or they would use imminent domain and he would get pennies on the dollar. He sold and they put in the public housing. Shortly after they moved people in there, the first murders began and it has been all bad since then. I guess the government could only see Black people and not that they were destroying an old and established neighborhood by moving in criminals. That's what happens when you judge people by skin color alone, even in the name of "progress". Grady was one of the nicest guys I ever worked for in my life. I think I was making like $1.25 an hour back then, and then Carter increased the minimum wage to like $1.60? It seemed like a lot to me! If you know the area still, then this is right by that big old church off Kirkwood Rd/Lindbergh. Sounds like we had some of the same old stomping grounds, just separated by a few years!
Gonna run up to the store and grab some catalogs and pick up some drive-thru food, so TTFN.

Good morning ! All the shootings all over the country !! We had ours too, yesterday guy killed 3 people in family then called 911. SWAT came, 1 officer killed, another wound. Burned the guy out, he died as well.
Glad the carpet issues worked out, that can be a real pain!!
FINALLY, got my power wiring done! Next will be the switches. Below a couple of pictures below the layout.
The white background behind the terminal strips, is a wire list identify where the wires go. If you look close right in the center at the bottom of the middle AIU, is a wire hanging. That wire comes from behind the panel and goes to the TMCC Command Control. I unplugged it from the TIU on the right side, to accomodate access. Well you guessed it, when I finished I forgot to plug that wire back in. I had Drag Races going on when I powered up the layout. The good news is, that was the ONLY wiring issue. EVERYTHING worked great the first time, Unbelievable.
The next picture looks like a mess, but I have my control panel, and all my transformers mounted in a printer cart. (Which is really working well, with the pullout drawers, and can pull the whole thing out from under the layout. These cables are umbilical cables to accomodate movement. The reason there are so many is that also included on the cart is a VCR, Xbox, Xfmrs for the elevated G scale. The yellow is a power cable that goes to 2 emergency shut off switches, one at each end of the layout.
Hope we ALL have a safe, and quiet weekend. Today should be a great day, suppose to get to 75.
