EVENING ALL

We are expecting rain turning to freezing rain then to snow. Not much expected but who knows.

I did run the #785 hudson today it ran real good, but had to replace the speaker. Also picked up the K-line box cab that was scheduled for May 07. Nice looking but not much in performance, a few lite cars at best. The docksider is a much better engine but of course not the same looks. its under $90.00 and thats what 90 will get you.  Stay safe,,,,Sir James

Sir James, I like those little docksiders, they look pretty good and run like crazy. At Christmas I had three of em lashed up and they got a lot of smiles at the museum. My only complaint is the sorry little whistle, ugh, sounds more like some sort of broken car horn.

yes, I have three docksiders, and they smoke good, pull good, and the whistle sounds like Thomas, I wouldn't doubt that its the same one. I will only have one of these new boxcabs though. Nice looker, poor performer.

Morning to All,

Made a fresh pot. Tired this AM, too much time reclinerizing watching election results last night. Back to the interview grind.  Will be glad when these late nights and the cold weather is over so I can get out to the train room again. Coming home to eat dinner at 7:30 PM or later doesn't leave much train time.  I've got a late night tonight for interviews and tomorrow for PTA committee.

THe mrs. is starting to feel better again.  The stomach bug she ahd really threw her for a loop lasted from last Wednesday until yesterday until she felt like she could eat solid food again.  Her foot is on the mend, but still is swollen and purple.  Stitches can come out next Monday.  She still has to wear the canvas, velcro wooden soled shoe for a while longer to protect her toes and keep her from flexing them too much.

Will check in later in the week.  Take care,

Mitch

Morning all

WET and still warm in Southern Ohio.  Finshed wiring the garage addition yesterday.  Ran four new circuits.  I have a distribution panel in the garage that is a breaker box I removed from a wiring job I did several years ago.  Makes the job very easy.

Chief- I never realized just how big that big boy is .  .  . it is huge!

Going to help with several Ash Wednesday services today and I need to get started.  I will check back later.

May God bless

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy and mild 59 degrees. Going up to 68 today, with a chance of more rain. It's getting soggy.

Today is the day that I drive into Cambridge for the weekly groceries. I am always glad when it's over with. Gas is staying at $2.87 a gallon, but it may go back up. Not much change in food prices.

No time for trains today. Maybe tomorrow.

Dining car is here and it's " all aboard " for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Mornin' Fellas.

Mitch - Glad to hear your wife is mending. Rough week for her with the stomach virus and the fall. I'm sure you played the dutiful husband role just fine! Thumbs Up [tup]

Chief - Looks like you're having fun running those trains! Thumbs Up [tup] Like the NS lashup! Looks like you need a one of those UP FEF's that Laz has...

Chuck - I paid $2.97 for gas last night because I forgot to fillup outside work... $2.82 there this morning... Banged Head [banghead]

Laz - Sounds like Legacy is doing you some good. What's this 5 train sessions with no pile-ups? Is this a hidden feature with Legacy? Wink [;)]

Where's Fife?  Did Buckeye run him off again? or are they playing under a bridge somewhere?

Gonna be a nasty one in the DelMarVa region this afternoon/evening... nasty rain storms, lightening and thunder, and very high winds. All coming from points North and West of here... hmmm... that would be Ohio way....

-----
Busy night last night. Got all the 'full' sections of ceiling tile (that I had tiles for) mockedup, not just have to cut some filler sections and the whole first level will be tiled. I have to either go buy one more tile or wait till I get to Pittsburgh... think I'll just stop and get one on my way home. Smile [:)] Then I have to start cutting the tiles for the 1st level to 2nd level transition.

Checked the clearance on the second level and it is good. Thumbs Up [tup] Then I bumped the mockup before I took it appart and nearly knocked 4 freight cars on the floor! Banged Head [banghead] Have to remember to move the trains out of the way when I am doing this... either that or I'm going to be really upset when I break something. Also found some 1/8 ply/fiber board stock that I can use for the curved trim. Not sure I have enough to do both sides but we'll see. I would like to build it up to 1/2 inch so I have sufficient strenght to secure the second level ply base, if not then I'll just install a couple risers and secure the trim to those - have to remember to check clearance though if I have to go the riser route.

Chief,

Those are some very big trains.  Those would look like a crane trying to turn around in a gas station parking lot on my layout...It bet they are fun to watch though.

Do you guys know of any buried pipe product that has some sort of radiant warming device imbedded into it?  I have about 60ft of PVC that carries my sump pump water out of my basement to the street that freezes solid with ice, causing water to errupt out of my downspouts, unless I bypass it with a surface hose.  It looks like old faithful...

Morning all.  Mitch, you all need to get rid of that sickness.  Pretty day.  Probably going into the 70's.  Wife has carpet cleaners coming. Sad [:(]  Fix some sausage and waffles.  Good hot coffee.  Made reservations for Holiday Inn Express in York.  Later.

Good morning all,

It is windy and rainy and cooling off in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s.  I worked on taxes again last night and started working on financial aid forms as well.  I did some track work at the YMCA, and I ran the 384E on the back porch while it was still relatively warm.  I also checked Lucas' grades and they could be better...as usual.  Still, we are not having to go thru what two families are facing tonight and tomorrow.  A friend of mine where I worked at the first factory job I had lost her son, who was 47.  The dental hygenist I see lost her two year old boy.  Having gone thru so much with Lucas, I can only imagine their pain.  Normally, I don't do Ash Wednesday, but tonight is a Mass for my mom so it will be a sad evening indeed between that and at least one visit to a funeral home.  It sure is odd how life works...or doesn't...sometimes.

I see where "Super Tuesday" really did not settle much in terms of the presidential races, but I did see where turnouts were up.  If this process gets more people involved, that might be a point in favor of it.  I also looked at a website which had aerial photos of the new Honda plant.  It looks as if there might be two railyards there.  Heck, there may be more track there than when Greensburg was connected by rail in five directions.

On the bright side of things, I did get an e-mail from my Norwegian soccer friend.  Her messages always brighten my day.  I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Wes,
You should really redig the trench for the pipe below the frostline. In Ohio that could be anywhere from 32" - 48", check with a contractor or building inspector. If you really want to install heating cable, it will increase your electric bill, check this place out http://www.heatersplus.com/cable.htm not sure if it is wise because it will reduce the size of the pipe and could cause your sump pump to work harder causing it to wear out faster...

I don't think I can get down that low.  In that 60 feet, there is a gentle pitch down maybe 5 inches that runs to a hole in the curb, which my water exits and flows down the street another 20 feet or so to the storm drain.  I don't think that there is anywhere else I could put the exit of the pipe.  I think the drain is a 3" thin walled PVC pipe.  I would be willing to dig that up and put something else in there if it solved the problem.  I would only need to turn that heater on when I know it was frozen, which has only been once a year, usually.  Its when its warm outside and i get rain, but frozed underground.  It's happened 3 years in a row.

I'll check out that product you recommened.

Thanks,

Wes

Morning from a snowing, sleety Chicago. Boy, I appreciate train travel on a day like this. Sailing comfortably past the traffic. Then there was the wet slog across the Loop. Oh well.

Congrats on the trip, Chief.

Glad you're on your way home, Brutus.

Wes, I've seen a 'sort-of' insulating sleeve that fits various sizes of pipe in our local home improvement centers. The heat coils are pricey.

I forgot to ask yesterday. Did anyone see an episode of 'American Experience' on PBS on Monday that was all about Grand Central Station? - it was very well done.

Good Morning!

Made more progress on wiring, only 1 power drop left to do.  Hopefully tomorrow.

Train club meeting tonight.  I will make a ptch on how we need to proceed for the Kids club.  I've probably made to big of a deal out it, have a complete presentation preparred as if I was pitching something for a corporate meeting.  Feasibility, Action Plan, Marketing and Advertising, Cost and Material requirements, Resource/Manpower rqmts, facility needs, legal issues, advantages/disadvantages, Action Items, and risks.  Will probably overwhelm everyone.  We shall see...  The primary issue being activie participant involvement from members!!!  Not a one man show!

Need to work this week-end, so no train time then.  Just the 15 minute evenings for awhile.

Chief, those are a couple of good pictures.  Noticed the JD facility building front on the lower left.  And those must be the Smokeys? in the background.  Not to bad!!!!

Mitch, glad to hear the wife is doing better.  Do you see any light in the tunnel as to how much longer before you begin to see some normalcy?

Just saw news reports of the storm that went through Tenn, Ark, and KY.  Hopefull the death toll doesn't go any higher, 47 people.  WOW that's a lot.

Also, notice the Chief is making reservations for York,  must be nice!  Its one thing always being told how big York is, but then again it is really something when you see it.  I still am awed when I think back about the trip I made last year.

Got to get ready for work.

Later

I would think that I would want something that I can fish down into the pipe and out towards the street.  I'm not sure if that is even possible.  I really don't want to wrap the pipe with a foil or insulation, and bury it.  Of course, putting a resistive wire in water might not be that smart either.  I'll go to home depot and see what they have, but most of that stuff is for interior pipes.  Maybe I'll be surprised when I get there.

Thanks guys,

Wes

Chief, how do you get into the center of your layout like in that photo? Is there a duck-under or lift-section I'm not seeing.

Another foot of snow expected today out in the 'burbs. Just sn-eeting here in the Chicago.

Fife, The photo with the F-7 and the GP sure bring back some memories, but the link promoting some screen savers proved to be a bit distracting. Blush [:I]

Can't believe how quiet it is today since the Ca. primary ended last nite, no phone ringing off the Censored [censored] hook. Maybe that is what has contributed to the storms breaking out, to much BS and Hot Air. Call me Grumpy [|(] but I can't stand any of these so-called candidates.
