SATURDAY’s INFO & SUMMARY of RECENT POSTS

We open at 6 AM, all time zones. (Don’t ask how we do that!) [swg]

(2) Sunday is Sunday Photo Posting Day! and yes, we are CLOSED!

trolleyboy Rob . . . . . Dec 18th (12:05 PM) . . . . . siberianmo Tom

(4) MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
Monday, December 12th represents the 8th Month Anniversary of ”Our” Place! An appropriate way to celebrate our “founding day” is to Post information relating to travel by rail during the Christmas holiday season!

With ample time to prepare, I would expect we will all find something suitable for this event. An advertisement, an article, a personal account – anything at all that will bring to light a trip or two by rail during the Christmas season.

That’s it! Nothing more to do. No “party” per se – it’s not a birthday celebration – just an opportunity for us all to recognize this achievement we’ve all contributed to. [tup]

Good evening everyone. Tom I'll grab ( likely helping myself ) To a med rare and a rye and coke.

As to your little contest I'm gonna say that it will be you turning the 200th on the 18th noonish. Okay 12:05 if you are going to be picky. [tup][swg] Not sure what happened with that passage Likely lost something in the edit, happens when one is trying to type late at night with a cat trying to sit on your lap. "Should have read not unlike Tom" meaning that i agree with you wholeheartedly or something to that effect.

Nice additional info on the Soo. Seems to be a fav road of yours as of late.

Promise not to give you any more keepers this week. [:-^][:D]

Al Nice add in as always, interesting to hear about the various cars built/rebuilt in house by railroads.

Ted I've always been confused by the grapefruit as well. i've actually been in grocery stores where I've seen them refer to it as a Greatfruit as well. Guess we will never know but to me greatfruit would describe it much better than grapefruit as it's not eevn purple. [swg] BTW get well soon but do where a mask when you are in the bar. God knows what common human germs may do to our resident [alien]

Pete The big museum is at delson which is out by the airport if my geography of Montreal is sound ( never been to the city ) Seems to me our dear departed Chris ( as a participant ) explained where it was. Half hour from downtown if I recolect properly so I would think that there would be bus routes <gag> to the museum.

P Nice comparisin though i much prefer the original consist. Did not the GG1's survive to Amtrak paint in some cases. If that were true than they may well have run the train under amtrk in the seventies. I'm sure al or CM3 may have the answer ( I hope )

Cm3 Hope your friend was allright. Isn't winter weaher fun. no word of a lie the roads here are bone dry but on my way home today I say some twit in a 4x4 put his truck on it's roof. No snow no ice, goes knows what this guy would have done had the weather been truly bad.

Nick Keep the sole comming just love that fish ! Also seen any interewsting snowmen lately [swg][:D][?]

Have a good night everyone. Rob

What Ho Chaps-Are we all well..?...(apologies to TED notwithstanding)..right [4:-)]TOM,I`ll try a few of those green bottles please,ah good man, nice one-now,whilst I remember,I am sorry to say I have no Xmas rail journey to offer.
However-would a "The worst gig we`ve ever had which happened to be on Xmas Eve" story serve instead.?...please advise.
By the bye-there should be a package of pix landing on your desk sometime soon, will provide captions as required-[^][tup]
MIKE-cover completely blown-will have to refer back to party agent for new strategy---suspect we share a mindset-more than one way to skin a rabbit..[swg]
PETE-Classic fish supper coming up[tup]-As luck would have it,the beer is on as well-given the upsurge in custom in recent weeks, the Can-Am/Cymru Zeppelin line is operating at full capacity with all three craft in the air most of the time..supplies are guaranteed-[^]-P.S-agree about G.W.R streamliners-an unpleasant experiment which served no purpose-give a Swindon engine good shiny Welsh Anthracite to burn and she`ll show all comers
BAR CHANDLER ROB-Its the Sole for you sir-tonight we are serving it on a bed of minced iceberg lettuce with tartare sauce & lemon wedges with baby new potatoes ,baby corn & honey-glazed carrots
SIR THEODORE MANAGER-You have been beset by troubles of late-our thoughts are with you dear boy-dose up & ride it out, might well be awake if sleep eludes you, will return post if so[tup]
CM3-Howdy there ! -Your mention of the V.I.A car interiors struck a chord-Sister sent a load of free promo "bumf" from Toronto Union a few years ago-sure it included `birds eye` views of the car interiors of the V.I.A stock-will report back
RED P-Nice one mate-you`ve got the feel of us,have a Jack & a splash on me [^]-Do you have a regular run you might talk us through.... [:-^]
[4:-)]TOM-before I lose the plot completely,a faintly serious point-You remember we have mentioned layout-design software before....?-Well,have just downloaded that `Trainplayer` program that gives you `live`versions of Linn Westcotts 101 favourite layouts and it comes with a free 10 day trial of `trackplanner`which I have yet to explore, but looks promising-will try to `build` my layout & post it to you-see if it works..
O.K,it`s nearly 3:00 again,I`ve got a gig in Cardigan ( Dodge City ) tomorrow night so expect a garbled message or two at about this time, going to play with my new virtual trainset now, sleep well one & all,nick[C=:-)]

Hi Tom and all.

A pint of Bathams and around to celebrate DAVE's good news please.

Good post on the Broadway Limited P. Do you know when the GG1s stopped working the service [?].

ROB thanks for the Montreal info and TOM for the VIA link. I thought that the Canadian National Railroad Museum was in a suburb of Montreal but the Montreal web-site makes no mention of it.[%-)]. Can you help. I wonder if the Museum is in reach of public transport[?].

AL and CM3 thanks for the City of Memphis posts. On the subject of Streamlined locos probably the worst looking was on the Great Western Railway of England.it is said that during the 1930s when the L.N.E.R. and the L.M.S. were producing streamline locos the G.W. Board told the Chief Machcanical Engineer that the GW ought to have streamline locos too. TheC.M.E didnt think much of this so he got a model of a King class loco and some plastercine he then made a rounded nose on the smoke box door pinched some plastercine behind the stack and safty valve bonnet then angled the cab front. He then handed the model to the Draughtsman. Luckily only two locos were done like this and the streamlining did not last too long

TOM thanks for the SOO Nostalgia I think the200th will be

G’day!

Just got back from my quarterly trip to the Doc’s. Good news is that he now only wants to see me 3 times per year. Awwwwright, progress! Beautiful day out there – blue skies, temps just above the freezing mark (F) and all’s well with the world. Oh [yeah] petrol at “Collusion Corner” now at $1.98 (rounded). Down 2 cents from yesterday. [wow]

Acknowledgments to: Theodorebear Ted – ftwNSengineer P & coalminer3 CM3

Thanks to CM3 for the round and quarters. [tup] I should have Tweeeeted you for Rule violation #1 – failure to greet the barkeep! Oh well …. perhaps some other time. Still have an answer “pending!”

Hope you get over what’s ailing you, Ted

Appreciate the information from CM3 and P – good stuff! [tup][tup]

Okay, Gents – I’ll be behind the bar all day.

Next up, the daily NOSTALGIA piece ......

Later!

Tom [4:-)] [oX)]

REMINDERS, especially for those who Post only once per day or on occasion:

(1) Check to see if you are getting the MOST CURRENT info before Posting.
(2) Check to see if anyone has Posted during the time yours was being prepared.
(3) Stick around a few minutes after Posting, just to ensure that someone may want to “talk” to you or has Posted.
(4) It’s a long wait until your next visit and perhaps by then some pertinent info directed your way will be missed.

Good Late Morning to All; coffee, please, round for the house, and $ for the jukebox.

Lovely day here: A little snow, ice, a 7 tractor trailer pileup on the WV Turnpike, folks in the ditch everywhere, etc. Then one of my buddy's van caught fire on his way home from work last night and burned to the frame. Other than that it's pretty quiet.

The P Company consist from 1966 was most interesting. Many pleasant memories of rides in the Elberton and more than a few of the Rapids cars listed.

I'll have some more on the "City of Memphis" as soon as I can dig onto the stack of stuff.

BTW, I was browsing through a VIA folder last night and wondered about the Renaissance sleepers. They are all-room cars if I understand the diagram correctly? I am sure somebody can enlighten me on this.

The material on the SOO lIne sent me back to a 1930 era ORG. They had a 10-page entry in the book with extensive sleeper service to points throughout their system along with a bunch of branch line trains; it kind of reminded me of the C&O back in the day where every "holler" had at least one train a day.

Trains 62 and 63 listed the following consist operating between the Twin Citiies and Duluth: Buffet-Library Observation; Parlor Cars; Coaches. Both of these were afternoon runs.

Trains 1-109 and 110-2 "The Winnipeger" were the only named trains I found listed in SOO's entry. They handled the following: "Standard" drawing-room sleepers between Chicago and Winnipeg and Twin Cities and Winnipeg; "observation compartment cars" between Twin Cities and Winnipeg and coaches and a diner between Twin Cities and Winnipeg.

Here's a list of "Major SOO Depots."

Chicago - Grand Central Station
Milwaukee - CMStP&P Depot
St. Paul - Union Station
Duluth - Superior St. and 6th Ave. West
Superior - Winter St and Ogden Ave.
Winnipeg - Main St. and Higgins Ave.

I came across the following hotel ad which I thought you'd enjoy.

"We Cater to the Nation's Greatest Asset, 'The Baby,' at
The Walker House (The House of Plenty)
Cor. Front and York Sts,
Toronto, Ont.
American or European Plan
We pay particular attention to the comfort of ladies and children traveling alone.
The Walker House Cafeteria is open day and night
PURE FOOD AT POPULAR PRICES
Any reasonable request for special food for the baby will be prepared in our dining room without extra charge."

They don't write 'em like that anymore.

Morning Tom and the rest of the bar crowd you know the deal, Coffee black and a blueberry bagel.

Tom - as far as Factual stuff goes, I was posting on a simular thread in another forum. Got out of there because it the only thing they talk about (so it seems) is the weather. I do still check in over there every once in a while, but it seems that some of the treads over there are a total waste of internet !

Morinin' all, Tom, its too early for anything more than a tumbler of grapefruit juice and dry, rye toast. [Does anyone know why this citric is called "grapefruit?] Anyhow, I've picked-up a Florida version of "Snow Bird" Flu and there is nothing for it but to "ride-it-out."[V] Rob, Al, Dave, you guys always come through with the "goods."[tup]

The Soo Line has always been a "shadowy" Road in my recollections. I am now beginning to understand why. It appears the Soo didn't really go anywhere but for the connections with other Roads. Still, you gotta love these dated advertisements, touting their TLC for the passenger market. Nick, definitely another one for the wine cellar archives. I was feeling too puny to take advantage of this "jewel in the crown." BTW, what province in China did you learn these culinary arts? Must've been Hong Kong or Singapore.[swg] Wanswheel, now we have another esteemed contributor who chooses to wax poetic, great.[^] Pete, it is incredible how many technical improvements came by way of accidental blunders, isn't it?

I hate to come to the table with nothing but "my hat in my hand" today. Regretably there may be a period of absence until I can shake the "chills and spills" that come with this infirmity. Until then, I'll try to stay current via "browsing" through the daily postings. Stay well and take that vitamin C gents. Happy rails.

Good Morning!

Another glorious day here in mid-continent USA as the temps are in the high teens (F), hardly breeze and some blue skies peeking through. Was an enjoyable hike through the subdivision with my faithful Husky friend, Juneau. Don’t know how they do it, but he seems to have “measured” his stops quite well, for there’s nothing left upright that he hasn’t “sprinkled.” [swg] That’s a one mile stretch of trees, poles, bushes, etc. Amazin’ ….

What a fini***he bar had last night – crazy day and one that simply illustrates you never know here at the “Feast or Famine Bar ‘n Grill!” [tup][tup] to all who made the day a resounding success – especially those who came back twice or thrice. [yeah] Once per day may not be sufficient in order to keep up with what’s goin’ on these days (daze)!

A decision has been made regarding TWO “things” pertaining to the bar – watch for the Post!

Okay – to the acknowledgments:

The “official” distance is 335 miles (539 km) from Toronto to Montreal. You can travel this by VIA Rail along the “Corridor,” which is about a 5 hour trip. Check it out at www.viarail.ca – go to reservations and the rest is self explanatory.

Not to worry regarding the pix for Sunday – I’m lookin’ forward to a relaxing day. Compiling them takes quite awhile – so we’ll see what develops from the other guys. [tup]

That’s pretty interesting “stuff” regarding the PRR S-1. I wonder how many “innovative” design alterations can be traced to a “fluke” such as the one you described [?] Appreciate the insight … [tup]

Can always count on your for Fish ‘ Chips Nite! Even Rob – who I think started all of this – doesn’t seem to have an appetite on Thursdays! <grin>

I see that you just couldn’t control yourself and just had to Post two Classic Juice pieces within the same day. Thanx a lot, Mate. I owe ya! <grrrrrrrr>

Given the enormous amount of interesting and factual “stuff” being Posted ‘round here, one only wonders if there’s a thread on ANY forum on ANY web site to rival us [?] Outstanding work, gents. I really appreciate those of you who not only check in to partake in the bar banter, but also contribute to the point of it all – the discussion of Classic Trains! That’s precisely why this thread was begun – that along with a place where one could “escape” the inane crap goin’ on elsewhere. Our inane crap is so much more enlightening! [swg] <grin>

Good show with the City of Memphis “Streamliner” piece. [tup] I’ve read about the conversion of those cars. It was quite an undertaking fer sure, fer sure.

So, what’s goin’ on out there on the “left coast” [?] A bit early ya, isn’t it [?] We don’t open up ‘til 6 AM – all times zones! so, I’m afraid you’ll have to sit on the porch – or in your car! [swg]

Okay, Gents – I’ll be behind the bar all day.

Later!

Tom [4:-)] [oX)]

Helpful hints to get the MOST out of your experience on this thread:

(1) Check to see if you are getting the MOST CURRENT info before Posting.
(2) Check to see if anyone has Posted during the time yours was being prepared by sticking around a few minutes after Posting.

Good Morning Tom and thr rest of the gang. Time for my usual coffee and diet pastry from the Mentor Bakery.

PASSENGERFAN AL'S STREAMLINER CORNER #20

CITY OF MEMPHIS Nashville Chattanooga & St. Louis Trains 5-6 Inaugurated May 17, 1947 between Nashville and Memphis round trip daily 239 miles each direction 5 hours each way.

The CITY OF MEMPHIS was the last streamlined Steam powered shop built streamliner to enter service.

The six cars were formerly heavyweight Parlor cars that had been purchased at the beginning of WW II for conversion to coaches. When streamlined in 1947 the cars were among the finest RR conversions ever streamlined. The NC&STL shops outdid themselves in craftsmenship and attention to detail. When the six cars were completed the revenue capacity of the train was 204. The new CITY OF MEMPHIS lasted well past the takeover of that road by the L&N. The old Pacific that was streamlined to pull the train was thoroughly shopped and roller bearings were installed on all wheels. The streamlining itself of the locomotive was different than most and vccan best be described as a modified Bath tub design.

CONSIST OF CITY OF MEMPHIS

535 Streamlined K-2d 4-6-2 Pacific Locomotive and Tender

1040 Baggage 30' Railway Post Office Car

1100 44-Revenue Seat Coach Buffet 16-Seat Lounge Car

FRIDAY’s INFO & SUMMARY of RECENT POSTS

We open at 6 AM, all time zones. (Don’t ask how we do that!) [swg]

Friday has arrived! A good way to “celebrate” the end of the work week (for most) is to draw a cuppa “Joe,” enjoy a few pastries from The Mentor Village Bakery and of course order a <light> breakfast! [yeah]

A special THANX! to all who have continued to Post on a regular basis. It’s not so much the quantity that we’re looking for, it’s quality and you’ve been great with BOTH! [tup][tup][tup]

Politician: Someone who can borrow $20, pay you back $10 and declare you’re even because you both lost $10.

Info for the Day:

(1) Friday is Pizza Nite along with Steak ‘n Fries Nite!
(2) Saturday is ENCORE! Day
(3) Sunday is Sunday Photo Posting Day! and yes, we are CLOSED!

My guess is that we are NOT going to have much of a Sunday Photo Posting Day! So, there will be a modification to the format – submissions of NOSTALGIA and Fallen Flags are encouraged. [tup] As always, we want to continue limiting the narratives to Monday thru Saturday ……

Evening Leon I'll grab a CR and heck ring up a round for everyone left standing Boris.

Tom did indeed catch the nostalgia post. Good stuff as always. I will check in on walther's about those buses. I will likley send you an email if not tonight tomorrow.

Nick Wow great selection you have out done yourself as per usual. I'm sure that this menu espeacially with the multi group pics will make the managers archieves for sure. BTW I'll have the sole !

mike Wonderfull little poem and not like Tom I'm glad that you have joined our little band of rabid train guys. TTC maps are available but they aren't as interesting as the days before the TTC when upto five different electric surface systems moved people and things in and around Toronto.

Al I have to admit that I'm not entirely a streamlined steamerfan but the just enough approach of the CPR seemed right. Although I do like the pictures of the Lehigh streamlined in the striped cornel red. I've no speacila requests either, anything with alot of juice flowing through would be nice though !

Pete How are you. No rush on that info from yopur freind nomne of us are going anywhere soon. To answer your distance question its about 750-800km between the two. Translated an our and abit by plane. Five and ahalf six by train or if you drive it ( mostly because the 401's a warzone) it would be a good six if not seven hours. Unless of coarse you have a heavy foot, in which case it's been known to take 4 hours to drive [:O] that usually will mean a non-resident road tax being levied at some point. [:-^][:D]

Dave Aw shucks your making us feel are warm and mushy inside. You sir are quite the fountain of indesputable info as well. Makes as the nice well oiled ( sometimes sporadic ) machine that we here at Our Place are. [tup][tup]

Hi Tom and all.

YES please North Sea Cod in Yorkshire Batter,Chips and Mushy Peas and as [C=:-)]NICK got any Sam SmIth's Old Yorkshire Brewery Bitter in the CAN-AM Zepplin to wash it down[?][tup].

Great series on the Streamlines AL and thanks for the link TOM[tup].I see that the PRR S-1 #6100 was longer than a Big-boy and could haul a 1000 ton train at 100M.P.H. It is a shame it wasn't preserved although it seems it wasn;t totally successful and had a short life.I was reading recently that one of the reasons the A4 pacifics of the L.N.E.R. kept their streamlining after the war was its ability to keep the smoke clear of the cab.
The story was that during the design stage a clay model was used in a wind tunnel to get the most aero-dynamic form for the casing. They had got the shape of the A4 but were experincing trouble with smoke drifting around the cab until a technician accidently pinched the clay model when putting it in the wind-tunnel behind the stack which cured the problem.

Glad you can join us while on holiday BK[tup]

Sorry Im late [#welcome] P.

WANSWHEEL Great poem and great post your are so right about Our Place[yeah].

I would also like to see the article from DEC 2000 of Trains this was the first R.R,Mag I bought in the U.S. it is now somewhere in England.

ROB thanks for the Classic Juice#12. I have been in touch with my mate in the U.K. he is still looking into the Immingham Tramway cars.By the way how far is it from Toronto to Montreal.

DAN hope you have a good weekend at the Midland.I have seen the advert looks like a great event.

TED Very much appriciate the comment on my British Railways posts [tup]. I dont know nearly enough on NA Railroads to post on them but with the knowledge of the regulars new and old at Our Place it is a great place and way to learn.

TOM Another great Nostalgia. I haven't any new photos at the moment. My mate in the U.K. as just got a digital camera and says he will take some railway shots and send them to me which we can use.

[C=:-)] NICK The fish and chips were delicious thanks PETE.

Evenin' Gents!

A bit of a flurry here at the "Feast or Famine Bar 'n Grill!" [swg] It's an amazin' place we've got and even more amazin' customers! [yeah][tup]

wanswheel Mike Posted: 01 Dec 2005, 19:46:07

Can't monitor for "SOS" if there aren't anymore Radiomen (RM's) aboard the Cutters. Changed the rating a long time ago and stopped teaching the 'code' as well. Not during "my day," but not that long after I retired. Proobably wouldn't recognize the modern "radio shack."

So, you've "uncovered" Nick's true identity, eh [?] Clever! [swg]

Interesting "bit" regarding Saginaw, Michigan - never read that before. [tup][tup] All from a "post mark," quite an "eye" you have!

We're pleased that you've found yourself a place at our bar 'n grill. You've quickly become a regular 'round here. Thanx for pickin' up the slack .... your Posts are right on the mark! [tup]

passengerfan AlPosted: 01 Dec 2005, 20:27:37

Glad you resurfaced! Appreciatre the round, as always! Boris Ring it!

We'll all be watching for your next iteration of the Streamlilner series - question is, are YOU watching the NOSTALGIA pieces [?] [swg]

Requests [?] Well, anything regarding the PRR - NYC - NH and GG-1's would put a smile on my face! [tup]

Okay guyz, Leon the Night Man has arrived wearing his shined Jump Boots - Air Borne! Set 'em up for the crowd and ring the bell, Boris!

Later! [zzz]

Eveing Tom and the gang.. A special occasion, drinks for all, I return to duty tomorrow, new command, new assignment....new computer from the PX...I don't ask much from life do I? Well, i've been occupied with fence building today so my vist has been somewhat delayed, gotta keep the investment looking good, keep Boris away from all paint .We all well remember what happen last time he got curious and the means were available .

Glad we have a fantastic group with vast interest, there is always room for some good natured debate and stimulating converstation. I for one would NEVER challange PassengerFanAl on his area of expertise, TrolleyBoy has the lowdown on electric operations, Nick the ace accross the pond on events revelent to the Isles, Tom our resident RDC fan and all around great host on all subjects and the numerous others that inpart. the identity of "Our Place" It's heart and soul, so to speak.

Well, enough wisdom for tonight, set em up if you could please, gotta get that last finish coat on before the rain moves in tomorrow.

Good evening Tom and the rest of the gang. Time for a CR and a round for the house.
Being the first it was a madhouse at the office today.
Rob I like you always though CPR had the right idea for streamlined steam they were always among my favorites. But much can be said for GN and C&O steam who let everything hang out no streamlined steam until the C&O decided to rebuild those Hudsons. Much can also be said for the Daylight 4-8-4 as the SPO never overdid the streamlining. Never cared much for the fully streamlined CN Northerns.
Many felt the Raymond Loewey streamlined Pacifics for the Southern and Lehigh Valley were excellent for fully streamlined steam. Saw a color picture of the Southerns
's one and only streamlined Pacific and must say it was among my favorites. Never cared much for the NYC streamlined steam it just seemed out of place and I can't explain why. Those streamlined Hudsons on the NYNH&H will always be among my favorites. The two CB&Q streamlined Hudsons never did much for me in the looks department but who can question a steam loco that could pull a twelve car train at the Century mark.

Watch for the morning streamliner corner it will be one of the more obscure and it was steam powered.

Any requests out their for streamliner corner will certainly be entertained.

Hi Tom and gang, Happy December. It goes so fast, I got older than the lot of you who still enjoy snow. I still like Hank Snow though.
Nick what a feast! And just in time, now I won't have to run to 7-11 for munchies.
Tom it occurs to me that the railroads and the telegraph wires were the Internet of the 19th century. Incidentally I did not know USCG had ceased monitering for SOS. But it's still shorthand for distress, as everyone knows. Compare IIRC, which is just what a thread about trains needs. More Initials.(note to self: put smiley right about here)
Rob there seems to be lots of geography in Toronto. The big city, for sure. I'll have to stop at the Trolley Juice concession stand and buy a map.
Nick, I've learned from sources that you are in fact a 92-year old peasant farmer in China who learned English by listening to the BBC on a contraband short wave radio. But that's about all the beans I can spill here. There are two reasons:
1. My father would not approve of my posting copyrighted material on his publisher's free website without a clearance from the higher ups.
2. I don't know how.

BK "entranced" is exactly the word for how I read Barndad's posts too. He's got a keen eye for good stuff to post. Incidentally I doubt if the fallen away patrons are likely to forget Our Place. I'll be gone as soon as tomorrow for all I know. No, I'm hooked for now.
Pretty sure I'm going to remember being here though

What to make of P's letter on page 176? Still good New York Central System service. I rode across Ontario from South Bend, Indiana to New York that year. The club car stopped serving drinks when the train entered Canada.
And Lefty Frizzell:

I was born in Saginaw , Michigan
I grew up in a house on Saginaw Bay
My dad was a poor, hard working Saginaw fisherman
Too many times he came home with too little pay
I loved a girl in Saginaw, Michigan
The daughter of a wealthy, wealthy man
But he called me "That son of a Saginaw fisherman"
And not good enough to claim his daughter's hand
Now I'm up here in Alaska looking for gold
Like a crazy fool I'm digging in this frozen ground, so cold
But with each new day I pray I'll strike it rich and then
I'll go home and claim my love in Saginaw, Michigan
I wrote my love in Saginaw, Michigan
I said, "Honey I'm coming home, please wait for me
And you can tell your dad, I'm coming back a richer man
"I've hit the biggest strike in Klondike history"
Her dad met me in Saginaw, Michigan
He gave me a great big party with champagne
Then he said, "Son you're a wise ambitious man
"Will you sell your father-in-law your Klondike claim?"
Now he's up there in Alaska digging in the cold, cold ground
The greedy fool is looking for the gold I never found
It serves him right and no-one here is missing him
Least of all the newlyweds of Saginaw, Michigan

Evenin!

Well, the bottom apparently has dropped out, for there's been an absence of customers from early afrernoon on. The morning was quite busy though. That's life at the "Feast or Famine Bar 'n Grill." [%-)][%-)]

Ncie menu, Chief Chef [C=:-)] Nick and I'm sure the track gangs from the Can-Am, CN and CP RR's will dig in just as soon as the tables are ready. [tup][tup]

Appreciate your remembering that this is our Fish 'n Chips Nite but alas, we haven't had any "takers" for quite awhile, with the execption of pwolfe Pete, always seems to remember this night! [swg] I saw him lurking in the shadows again, so perhaps he'll show up .......

I'm not really "concerned" about the pix for Sunday ... just trying to gin up support for it. There is a plus to this for me - less time here and more time for other interests. [tup]

Has anyone else noticed the increase in the "nonsense" Postings on our Forum [?] Just check out the "profiles" and you'll quickly figure out what they are all about - no information or those getting started with racking up the numbers count. I urge one and all not to give these people any encouragement.

Given that it has been so quiet 'round here, I decided to Post the Birthday Watch List again. As with so many other features of "Our" Place occasional reminders can't hurt ..... [tup]

Later!

Yo Rob!

Had to take a "time out," Juneau demanded "equal time." Man oh man, it feels like northern Canada out there today! [yeah] [;)]

Regarding the Rendezvous - as long as we keep Friday strictly for steel wheels on steel rails - no sweat. We could "do it" on Saturday .... fine with me. Let's continue this via Email - gets a bit convoluted here on the thread.

[yeah] Awk has a way with "creatures!" His own armored car, so to speak! [swg]

Check out the Walthers site at www.walthers.com - type in Fishbowls and you'll get the listings on them. Busch is the manufacturer. Don't know how long the sale will last.

My last Post was at 12:01 and yours was at 12:07. So the question is - did you catch the NOSTALGiA piece [?] By the by, thanx for that Classic Juice. Good readin' ... [tup]

BTW I'll grab a coffee to go and a couple of the danishes ( no Boris not the prune ones those are for Ted )[:(!] Lord knows why Nick puts up with him. I see that Awk and tex are getting along fine looks like Awk likes riding on Tex's shoulder hump.

Let we think on the bus idea I will let you know via email.
