Right then chaps-Leon a round of the special reserve brandy here-may get a bit contentious as we proceed-could well end up scrapping in the car park..........
O.K:-TOM-Some fine shots of PETE`s departure (appropriate music please)-I am sure the black bag is linked to the Cheltenham listening station-(see Enigma).......The shot of Himself and the conductor entirely failing to understand each other is worth money..........
Also the Canadian steam shots are a small delight....
See you all soon

G'day Gents!
I see our man in Wales has returned with a "bookmark," indicating that his stamina ‘n interest for this joint is above ‘n beyond reasonable expectations! What in the world would we do ‘round here without Mighty Man Nick
Sounding like a broken record <remember those, gang??> this is "You Post, I Post" during daylite - so since the sun has dipped below the horizon, BUT we still have nautical twilight - I figured I'd make a brief response or two. Here then are the Acknowledgments thus far for this Thursday . . .
But BEFORE I do, recommend the use of the REFRESH feature on your browser to get the MOST CURRENT Posts at the bar!
Customer Acknowledgments (since my last narrative):
Thursday- October 9th <all times Central daylite>:
Page 33 - CM3 Shane <coalminer3> at 8:14 AM <9:14 AM EDT>: Good to see our Resident WVA Connection up ‘n about the decks so early . . .
What do you mean "things will be different when we hit the powerball"- sez you to Eric I'm "in" too - oooooooops, have to buy a ticket, eh Oh well . . . <grin>
It's really comical regarding the ongoing "challenge" of Pete's Black Bag! I watched him, up close ‘n personal, during our 2007 Canadian Railway Adventure - ‘n he was "in" that bag more often than a bunny into a hutch. Unbelievable. I saw him place an item into it, then expend all sorts of energy trying to find it. I think he averaged .500! <grin> All of that notwithstanding, the man luvs his bag - never travels without it!
We're due for a Missouri sales tax holiday this coming spring for "Energy Star" appliances, including whole house air conditioners ‘n furnaces. So, that's when we'll change ours. They'll be into their 21st year of operation, so best to do it before either one craps out. Just hoping we can get through the winter . . . Nice knowing that if all goes well, they will be the LAST units like that I'll ever have to purchase.
The "Our" Place Galley Crew can do wonders with all kinds of meat. Have your forgotten our Road Kill ‘n Sausage MoSheen!?!?!? Yes, venison will "work" . . . antlers too! <yikes>
Thanx for the visit, ROUND, quarters ‘n good cheer!
Page 33 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 11:41 AM <5:41 PM GMT>: A surprise mid-day visit <here> from our Resident Musician in Wales! Saw you logged on as I was preparing my finale of the Proprietor ‘n Bar Chandler series of fotos . . .
Yesterday's trip was my 4-5 week "routine" visit to our nearest military base with a commissary, exchange and pharmacy. Generally occupies 5 hours of time to complete the "mission." A long day, 2 hours of which is on the road in somewhat racetrack conditions. People behind the wheel just seem to be H-bent on killing themselves. Just don't want to be involved with ‘em . . . that's another story! <arrrrrggggghhhh> But, yes - all turned out well - just a long day for my weary, old body. 2001 Volvo finished up at 29.4 mpg - which for that 5 cylinder wagon, ain't bad. Always been pleased with its performance - even if put together in Belguim ‘n owned by Americans! <grin> That's for Eric . . . <uh oh>
Only the VIA Rail SW7 ‘n caboose were custom painted - to my specs. Lawd knows if they're anything even close to reality, but I kinda liked the way they turned out. Good eye!
A looooong story regarding the ‘deadbeat' who was paid to do the job - took nearly a year to get ‘em. Then the state <Kansas> took him to court for snookering so many people . . . Thought for awhile that he made off not only with my money, but the unpainted loco ‘n caboose as well. Turned out okay for me, but not so for many others. The guy had advertised in Model Railroader - but one can just never be sure.
That Ontario Carbonate tank car is properly known as a Kaolin tank car. Mine is an Atlas model and here's some "scoop" to shed additional light: Primarily used to haul kaolin clay slurry for use in the papermaking process, along with many other liquids, the 14,000 gallon non-pressure tank car first built by ACF® in the 1970's adds a modern flavor to any layout. This common tank car can be seen all over the country <Canada ‘n US> and is in service today.

If your day is to be as long as you indicated - take the night off, Mate! We'll surely surive! Many thanx for thinking of us . . . Mid-day libations went down well - thanx!
Page 33 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 5:54 PM <11:54 PM GMT>: IF it is indeed Eric's retirement day <tomorrow> then all drinks ‘n food will be served to our <GoR> at no charge - all in honor of our Resident Desert RETIRED Swede! If NOT - then let's ask again - WHEN <grin>
Save your money, Mate - you'll definitely need it for your trip across the pond to visit with us! Didn't know you were coming, eh Oh well, some guys just never get the word!
Thanx for the "bookmark" - it's a nice touch ‘n really the WAY TO DO IT!
I'll catch y'all in the ‘morrow . . .

O.K guys-just fell through the door after an exceptionally lively practice night-a bookmark again:-
If I have the right of it,it is ERIC`s last day at work tomorrow-A full steak dinner (with all the trimmings ) for our resident desert Swede, also he is to have all the Tuborg gold that any man can handle,an open booking with any of our ladies of perpetual motion (the natural blonde"Svetlana" is a honey but I seem to recall he is a brunette man-so perhaps the lovely "Ingrid" may be more to his taste.............Either way -the night is yours mate-and the full breakfast is paid for in advance-for 3- ( hey-go for it mate )...
O.K time to check out the posts
Nick dropped by with a mid-day Post that has turned out to be an enabling one for me! Ya see, it's the "You Post, I Post" idea that keeps this place functioning during daylite hours.
Check this out!

What ho chaps-tea time here, not sure what it is with you all variously-but I am sure the sun is over the yardarm somewhere so Leon-do the honours if you please
Just grabbing a stolen half hour to put back what I lost yesterday,so on with it:-
ALLAN-Wallabies supposed to be the weakest of the `big 3` -so I hear-but its a relative term in this context Gresleys-master plan is to have this entire rake of Gresleys bar 1 Mk1 sleeper and a Thompson bk3rd if I can find one-The power (B12 in wartime black ) is currently awaiting some major fettling-will shoot some pix when it all starts to come together
TOM-Hope the trip was worth the going -hope the pix are starting to give a framework to the descriptions....agree your comments R.E modellers:- don`t care if it`s ultra coarse `scal` or obssessive rivet counting as long as they don`t try and sell it as the `only` method worth following-plenty of space for everyone says I.....Splendid set from the Can-Am once again -whats the gen on that Ont. Carb car ??.......Switcher/cab sets look very snazzy-custom paint ??-enquiring minds and all that
SHANE-Greenwood Mississippi-magic of a name,eh ?--Catalogues-don`t get me started........those W.V maps sound like an interesting read-we could do with something like that locally-Hook anthracite colliery was totally disorganised-barely any records survive -all houses in the vicinity require huge concrete `rafts`to avoid subsidence.....will look out book title -nice one, thanks -previous t/table was an abstract from a 1936 S.R volume but was just too much to deal with
DAN-Delighted the `meet` went as planned-sounds like a grand day out,as they say -speak soon...
ERIC-1 steak dinner coming up -will try and provide the `start points` for all the train moves to tie into the plan -have sent an E/M to the West Somerset Rly about #57-see what comes back...
PETE-Glad the trip is going well-good luck with the glasses-speak soon
O.K thats me done for now-back later-enjoy the day
Our AM enabling Post came from Shane, which of course spring me loose to provide THIS!
And, I see NICK logged on!
The Finale of The Proprietor ‘n Bar Chandler during the Wolfman's visit in September 2008 . . .
Rule of Six <Suspended> by one!
(1) Eastbound UP freight at Kirkwood
(2)
(3) Infamous BLACK BAG w/attendant ‘monitoring device - disguised as a suitcase!
(4) Here comes the afternoon westbound!
(5)
(6)
(7) Bon voyage, Wolfman!
Pete - Stopped by - that black bag is a monster. The deceased K9 Korps member acted like the bag - he used to eat everything in sight. Let me know if you find an English Springer spaniel in there. Anyway, good to hear from you and I hope you are enjoying your visit.
DL- Also good to hear from you - it sounds as though you had an enjoyable time.
Eric was in with comments. Yes, things will be different when we hit the Powerball.
Fergie - A lovely pair of 4-4-0s. Trust you will have appropriate cars to go with them at some time - safe travels.
Rob visited with comments and reflections. Always enjoy seeing the club pictures again.
Nick - No pictures made it over here (at least to my computer - all I had was large white spaces. We have been having all kinds of strange things happening here, though. Latest one was when they renamed printers yesterday - this caused a lot of our equipment to just stop. The lannites appeared (including some well up on the food chain that I had not seen in awhile. We had a laying on of hands, took up a love offering, and eventually things got back to where they should be. Like lots of other things electronic, they're great when they work.
Allan - Hunting is very big business in this part of the world. Pumps a lot of $ into the economy and feeds a lot of folks over the winter. Maybe the kitchen can do a load of "venison surprise" for the darts tournament - find an antler, win a prize!
OSP - Nice layout shots. I enjoyed the first one with the freight and passenger equipment. IMHO, I think Pete and the rest of the crew went train hopping by pub!
Well, let's see if we can post this item
Work safe
<In for my modest hardcover RR book library!>
A chilly start to the early AM here in mid-continent USA. However, temps are expected to reach the mid-70s (F) ‘n into the lo-80s tomorrow ‘n Saturday. Crazy for this time of year! But things are calm ‘n that "counts" for a lot!
Coffee ‘n pastries along with our breakfasts are ready! Are you
Comments from the Proprietor
It's "You Post, I Post" at the Bar by the Ballast!
Tuesday - October 7th <all times Central daylite>:
Page 32 - Allan <Gunneral> at 8:47 PM <2:47 PM Thursday NZ DST>: Wouldn't have been a complete nite at the bar without a visit from Boom-boom, our Resident Downunder Kiwi! Good to see ya!
The deer in these parts have pretty much devoured the backyard gardens along with flower arrangements, etc. and have done so for several years. As they get run out of their habitats by "progress," that's to be expected. No natural predators left for the most part. It's a shame, but we're into controlled hunts to rid the subdivisions of ‘em . . . far too many.
Keep talkin' - sounds like your country hasn't been turned upside down <yet>. It's gotten so ridiculous in some circles that no matter what is said, there's someone to be OH-FEN-DED! <geesh> Screw ‘em, sez I - all but six, ‘n save those for pallbearers! <grin>
The fun aspect of the Can-Am layout is that I've been able to meld it with the things we do at the bar, thereby giving it a "life" not planned for. Almost like having an operating layout IN a bar, eh
Many thanx for the visit, chat ‘n ROUND!
Page 33 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 10:03 AM <11:03 AM EDT>: I see you turned the Page to 34 - something we used to celebrate. That is, until we got unceremoniously wrapped on the knuckles at Page 63 by the LOCKMASTER. So, we're just that much closer, eh But as the song goes, "Always look on the bright side of life!"
Always a pleasure viewing those model RR club fotos. Guess they bring back happy memories for you. One of these years, I'd expect you'll get A-ROUNDTUIT ‘n construct your layout! <geesh>
So, the hobby shop in the Brantford railway depot is still there. But not for long as I gathered from your remarks. Has the owner found a buyer, or is simply a close-out ‘n close-up What a great location for a model trains store ‘n I'm happy you took us there.
As an aside regarding remaining logged on to the Forums: One of the "benefits" is that when Kalmbach takes ‘em down for maintenance - routine or otherwise - most times one cannot gain access UNLESS you are logged on. Also, if you have recently cleaned your hard drive ‘n erased the "cookies," then under those circumstances, access may be next to impossible until whatever is going on has come to an end. That's why I've recommended to our crew to remain logged on - no guarantee, but far better-er than the alternative. Insofar as cleaning your disk goes - try to keep in mind that weekends and late nites are when most problems with the Forums occur . . . a word to the wise.
Figured those two Steam MoSheens would flick your Bic!
Anything special going on over this upcoming Canadian holiday weekend <Thanksgiving>
Do thank you for your 2nd visit of the day ‘n good cheer!
Reminder: Ruth has the bar from 9 AM until Leon the Night Man comes in at 5 PM ‘til closing.
TODAY is Fish ‘n Chips Nite!
Friday is Pizza ‘n Beer Nite! - and - Steak ‘n Fries Nite!
Saturday is Steak ‘n All The Trimmings Nite!
Dinner begins at 5 PM so come early ‘n often!
Cindy is our Saturday bartender!
Boris, serve ‘em all of the "spiked" OJ they can handle!
Good evening Leon, a round of steins for the boyz. Carlsburg in mine whatever favourite everyone else has in theirs. Nice to see such a full plate of folks in today,we've heard from everyone which is a good thing
Tom-First off I gotta say loved the two header pictures you used today. The Selkirk and the Hudson are both personal fav's.I figure "divey" bars are "divey" bars no matter where one finds them.Your're right when you were partaking in the deep holes that sailers imbibe in I was likely a glimmer in some eyes, but trust me I've seen the insides of a few questionable joints, with likley just as colourfull of characters in them.< uh oh >
Nick-Nice selection of stuff from your layout.I aggree with Tom I like the passenger train.Looks like a work well in progress sir
Allan -Good to see you in again tonight.Yes I'm happy that teh glitch was not too bad.I get hit by it every once in a while.I've not had it as bad as you had been hit since I got the new computer,in my case the old machine just didn't react well to the uploads etc due to it's slow speed.I was also on dial up at the time which lets just say I'm glad that is over with , as soon as the high speed lines were installed in my neighbourhood we jumped at it.I used to stay logged in all the time back then as well,I find that I normally don't have to do that anymore.
Well lets see I think I need another round as my steins empty again. ( Leon must have given me the trick glass again ) Since it's optional toy in train / pikes petrspectives day I'll put up some of the old club layout shots again.
enjoy them again
Rob
Hi Tom and all,
Leon, the usual round of Tui`s for all the guys` please.
CM3. Very interesting chat about Cartography and Geology surveys. The deer over here are doing the exact same damage on our main mountain ranges and forest areas, it is a bit better these days as they are farming a lot of the deer for velvet and venison exports, they catch the deer by helicopter using tranquilliser guns and nets. Deer shooting makes big money from tourists over here as well.
Dan. Good to see you again, nice to see you had a good meet up with Pete and his Rugby mates in Brum.
Eric. Would love to visit the Coffee Creek car when it`s fully restored too. Fine pic of CN #5529 at StL MOT.
Fergie. A nice couple of brass old time 4-4-0 steam locos` for the MESS RR, you`ll be able to simulate the joining of the tracks at Promotory Point with those.
Rob. Glad to hear your log on hicup was`nt as bad as mine was, it was a very frustrating time back then.
Pete. Great to see you, good to see you had a nice meeting with Dan in Brum. Looking forward to those pix when they are available. Hope your able to get some proper glasses, will your insurance cover their loss?
Nick. A fine set of pix of your train consists mate, they look great, you will be chuffed to have them running just the way you want now.
Tom. NZ still tends to be less PC when it comes to sports activities and team names, wonder how long it`ll be before the PC brigade takes full control of our lives` over here. Some beaut pix of your Can-Am RR equipment, you have done a superb job of the whole layout, no wonder Pete loves coming to visit you so often.
See ya, Allan
<CN #6071 4-8-2 - from: www.yesteryeardepot.com>
As mentioned earlier, it's been a rather active day - during the daylite - at "Our" Place, which does wonders for my motivation ‘n hope for our continued presence in the Ether. Nicely done to all who made it so!
Was a busy day for me, but rather than belabor the point, suffice it to say - never too busy for me to fail youse guyz!
Wednesday - October 8th <all times Central daylite>:
Page 32 - CM3 Shane <coalminer3> at 9:28 AM <10:28 AM EDT>: Yeah, hitting natural gas lines have a tendency to ruin one's day. No doubt those kinds of events precipitated the enactment of state law regarding having utilities marked BEFORE digging. It's been that way in the Show-Me-State for decades. Not an option . . .
Filled up the wagon on the way "out" ‘n it was $3.27 <rounded> - returned 6 hours later to note the price had dropped two cents more.
A beautiful day here in mid-continent USA for the most boring drive of the month. 110 miles round-trip, with most of it in Illinois - not the most picturesque.
Figured you'd "jump" on providing us with some details regarding my latest spate of steamers . . . They are fascinating beasts, fer sure, fer sure.
We haven't fired up the furnace ‘n expect to have 2 or 3 more weeks of unusually warm temps for this time of year. Love this twixt air conditioning ‘n heating. Just plain nice . . .
Appreciate your inclusive commentary, ROUND ‘n quarters!
Page 32 - Dan <DL-UK> at 10:37 AM <4:37 PM GMT>: What Ho! Our Resident Brit in Sherwood Forest has emerged with some kind words ‘n an update on the mini-Rendezvous across the pond!
I have mixed emotions regarding the item placed in Pete's infamous Black Bag. Appreciative that you've thought so kindly of us - but concerned that the creatures residing within the Black Bag have appetites spanning the spectrum of material ‘n organic things. Cameras, books, itineraries, soda pop ‘n now eye glasses have all fallen prey to whatever it is that thrives within it. <yikes>
It doesn't surprise me to learn that Pete's mates from his hometown are a joyous bunch to hoist a few with. Wouldn't have thought any different . . .
Pub hopping, by train, is something I've NEVER experienced. Must be a great sport! <grin>
Many thanx for communicating with us so soon after your get together ‘n we're hoping you'll soon regain the title of Regular! <grin>
ROUND, of course, most appreciated!
Page 32 - Eric <EricX2000> at 12:20 PM <10:20 AM Sandbox time>: Hmmmmm, what IS going on between our Sandman ‘n Ruth Hmmmmmm. Ah, but I digress - good to see our Resident Desert Almost-Retired Swede show up in daylite!
Yeah, once I found out what the utility markings were all about, my expectations for the project to begin soared. This year! It better happen this month or else you'll hear the explosion in Phoenix . . . <uh oh>
When you look at that radar site, do you think of it as "home" Can't be any worse than the guys who used to inhabit the missile silos. <ugh>
I failed to make comment on Nick's story regarding those frozen chickens! It has made the rounds - several times, but always draws a smile ‘n snicker. <grin>
Fine looking CN 4-6-2 Pacific <designed for passenger service>.
Thanx for your inclusive Post, good cheer ‘n ROUND!
Page 32 - Fergie <Fergmiester> at 1:44 PM <3:44 PM ADT>: And another visit from the guy who has been "leaving" for most of the week! However, your daytime visits have been HUGE in helping to keep things flowing ‘round here. Many thanx!
Many thanx for those fine looking brass models. I've been hoping that you would show the guys just how much of a modeler you are, as opposed to my ilk. You, Sir, paint, detail ‘n decal, whereas the likes of me simply purchase ‘em for what they are ‘n let it go at that. Yeah, you are really a modeler ‘n a darned good one at that!
Glad I'm back in the good graces of our Resident Canadian Martime Mariner Skipper - been on the S-list of the "old man" a time or two ‘n it never is good! <uh oh>
So, once again - hope your get-away is enjoyable, relaxing ‘n safe!
Page 32 - Pete <pwolfe> at 3:49 PM <21:49 PM GMT>: What Ho! A surprise visit from our traveling Bar Chandler from Merry Olde at that!
Great knowing that you were able to meet up with Dan ‘n of course tilt the arm a few times with the boys! Undoubtedly had Nick ‘n Moi been with you, we'd probably either be in the local lock-up OR waiting for another ROUND! <grin>
Can't say we've seen the impact on the Bar Chandlers duties lately, for you planned ahead quite nicely. However, as these weeks pass by, I'm hoping our Manager will pick up the slack! <uh oh>
WHAT is going on in that <censored> Black Bag of yours It's time to deep six the sucker ‘n invest in one that is simply arranged. In other words, the fewer compartments, the less likely you are to become flummoxed when trying to find where you've placed an item. <geesh> Sorry about those glasses - I'm sure that's put a crimp in your style, fer sure, fer sure.
If you get the chance to read this - the next Bathams is on the house!
Page 32 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 4:52 PM <5:52 PM EDT>: Yes, there's room on the bottom shelf of my Canadian Railways display case for traction - just a couple, of course! But NO ROOM for an operating line in Can-Am City . . . unless I decide to . . . nah, ain't gonna happen! <grin>
Can't say I've experienced Canada Goose on a platter - but as the saying goes, it probably "tastes like chicken." <grin>
Not trying to make you feel bad, but when I frequented those waterfront saloons in Newfoundland you either weren't around or far too young to walk on your own! Yeah, it was a long time ago in another life of mine. Sailor bars are sailor bars ‘n it really doesn't matter where they are.
When I took Carol to Bermuda some years ago, I wanted to show her some of the places I used to frequent as a poor sailor. One was located very close to where my ships used to tie up in St. George's. A steep hill up ‘n a roll back down! <grin> The bar where we used to drink, brawl, sing ‘n crawl had gone "upscale." Say it isn't so! said I. But it did ‘n all that remained the same was the name ‘n general layout of the joint. Guess when the U.S. pulled the ships out from SAR standby year round, the locals decided to "play" to the cruise ship crowds <which didn't exist back then>. Oh how much fun we had with the Brits ‘n Canadian sailors in those joints . . .
Thanx for the visit, inclusiveness of your remarks ‘n of course the ROUND!
Page 32 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 5:24 PM ‘n 6:44 PM <11:24 PM ‘n 12:44 AM Thursday GMT>: A fine ‘bookmark' followed up smartly with a foto spate in recognition of our Toy ‘n Model Trains Day!
Sometimes no matter how careful we may be, those <censored> Forum's Gremlins are worse than the inhabitants of Pete's Black Bag! <yikes> Glad you rebounded so well with some entertaining fotos for our crew!
Passenger train looks good against that backdrop!
Many thanx for thinking of us ‘n of course the earlier ROUND!
Right-just managed to delete almost an entire post through carelessness-too near to bedtime to start over so will settle for some pix of some of the layout consists (since you have all been kind enough to pick up on them) and will do the rest when I get a moment-poss. tomorrow night...

A ‘bookmark' from Da Bossman whilst I prepare a round of Acknowledgments for this day's fine turnout! Dan ‘n Pete over in the UK has to be a hi-lite - but surely don't want to dismiss Fergie's "foot out the door" visit - return of Eric ‘n Rob after a very brief absence. And of course Nick's prelude to an inclusive Post! Just a good day at our Bar by the Ballast!
Later!
Good evening all-Just a bookmark whilst I scan through the days offerings
Leon-a round of Staropramen fine Prague pilsner for any that wish it or their own choice if not, plus an Indian special snack tray for me-any whatever nibbles the guys might like
Back in a bit
Good afternoon there Ruth. I see your about ready to leave and I can see Leon's hulking bulk in the kitchen so just a quick Keith's for me.Put a round out for anyone else who seems interested as well.
Tom-Great photo's of the Canam as always.I've seen a couple of the new Bachman PCC's they look quite good, and it wouldn't take up too much display case space.
I don't think I would want to feed Canada's to anyone even prisoners ( still better than they deserve I suppose ) I've always refered to them as flying rats seing as how common they are. They would make for easy marksmanship for the hunters I would think as the stupid things tend to stay on the ground.
Shane-Awfull story about the real coal train rolling downhill.I suppose the only silver linning is that no one was hurt.We had a similar incident here in Brantfors about four years ago. The local switch job dumped two 100 T covered hoppers full of Kitty Litter down an emabankment and onto an automobile salvage yard. The upside is the salvage yard got some work, and a new fence.
Tom I'm very glad that I've never gone to those dives drinking establishements with you in NFLD,beer goggles or no,the clientel does not seem to be at all appealing.
Fergie-Great shots of the layout sir . I did get your email. I do have to work on Sunday unfortunatly, when does your train come in As to LHS's you are in luck the one at the station is open.My Buddy Scott owns it,he is closing down though but everything in it's 30% off. They open at twelve so depending on when you get there you'll be able to partake.I'll give you cell a try in case you don't see this before you leave.
Dan-Nice to see you in briefly, hope alls well and that you have a good time with Pete.Just don't go near the black bag whatever you do !
Pete-Good Gawd man it eats glasses as well I'm thuinkg that you need to leave it theer maybe it will find a new victim owner to help annoy.Anyway hope your having fun we miss you round here.
Eric-Hmmm Vito's new place looks alot like the shed Mountainman Mike keeps his Harley's and pick-up truck in. a frightening conincidence I think.<uh oh >
Allan-I haven't had any problems accept the one day earlier this week with the log in's. The disruptions seem random. I wonder if Pete's black bag has a compatriot at Kalbach's computer centre.
Nick-Yes it's not supprising that the model companies tend to raid the archieves or the displays of museum's. Much easier to get the photo's and measurements they would need I should think.
You will find that CN tends to have many such incidents like you described at Cochrane. The think they can run their giant loco's and 100+ car freigts everywhere at normal track speed,They don't get that not everyopne has up to date rail and ties.Case in point all the fun they have had in BC on their BC rail trackage, many a train loads gone into the drink in BC since the takeover.
Good idea to spread the pearls of MR wisdom , we do have a lot of silent lookers,so your point is well taken.
Hi Tom and all.
A round for all please RUTH, and Bathams for me.
Just a quick visit to the bar I,m afraid, as DL said the black bag done its worst on my reading glasses this time and managed to lose them twice, the second time I think for ever. I have found some glasses but they don't seem very good at looking at the puter screen for too long, so I will have to catch up when I get back.
Met Dan yesterday and it was a real great time, although the Great Western had run out of Bathams the Holden's was on top form. It was really good to meet Dan and I am sure the regulars would have enjoyed the pubs too. I think if Tom and Nick had been there we would have still been at the pubs, hopefully the photos I took will come out OK.
Really looking forward to reading the posts when I can properly.
All the best from the Merrie Olde and hope the Chandeling duites are going well.
Pete.

Good afternoon Captain Tom and Gentlemen!!
Ruth, I'm back! Yes, of course it is because of you, you know that. No, no, don't say anything. A Tuborg Gold, please!
Wednesday, a quick stop during a short break.
Tom – 10 days of sunshine in Seattle and Portland! Wow!Yes, I feel kind of sorry for Boris, but he knows how to take care of himself. That is a good sign, the paint on your front lawn! If they have started to mark your lawn they might even consider to do something about your problem this year! Vito’s office is actually a Swedish Air Force radar central. I spent some time there during my military service in the 60’s. Thanks for the photos of the Can-Am Railway! A lot of traffic! CN, CP, VIA, and Amtrak!Nick – 12 oz Sirloin with all belongings sounds very good!!!I have also heard that story about defrosting the chicken! The windshields on the X2000 are actually manufactured in England and they were tested by firing dead chickens onto the windshields. I saw a video of the tests many years ago. I found your list of trains and movements interesting. I’ll find your track plan (I’ve saved it) and check all movements!Fergie – I guess everything is indicating that those double bulbed headlights existed in the 40’s! Interesting, they look more like being from the 50’s in my eyes. Allan – Yes, I am looking forward to the day when the Coffee Creek car will be done and ready to roll! Looks very nice! I used to go bird watching in the old country, that’s the reason I looked up the Godwits! CM3 – As I mentioned to Fergie, I now believe that the 2 bulb headlights came during the 40’s. A private car is something I’ll buy when I win the powerball. That will be the perfect place for a Rendezvous! DL – Take care of Pete and his black bag!

Round for the house!
Eric
Hi Tom and all in
Just wanted to call by, leave a round for the house - say I'd had enough time to at least scan through some recent pics - and report back that a successful UK meet up with the Wolfeman happened yesterday!
I'll have a pint of Pete's favourite tipple Batham's and relate the fact that I met up with Pete - we checked out 3 excellent pubs over the course of the afternoon and evening - linked by train of course, linked up with Pete's superb bunch of hometown mates from Rugby and generally toasted Our Place.
Tom, without giving too much away, Pete has a modest item to go behind the bar in Our Place from myself - for delivery to you in due course. This was left stashed in the famous black bag yesterday so hopefully ti will make its way back to the US.
Pete particularly wanted me to apologise for lack of visits recently - he lost his glases somewhere and although he has now resolved this - I think it precluded his attendance!
I also enjoyed hearing stories about the Our Place re-union activities - and a generally good time was had by all!
Sadly Nick was unable to make it - but I guess you juts can't have everything! Nick - I just read your e-mail today which I had not been able to view due to reasons Pete explained + IT probs when I got back - but your message was recieved!
Nice to see recent posts fromt he band of regulars (even though this is from an 'irregular')
Best wishes to all
DL
An enabling Post from Shane! Good to see ya, Mate . . . comments in my next round of Acknowledgments. Must make haste for my 110 mile round-trip. <ugh>

It looks as though it was a rough day for Vito; his new office resembles a powder magazine. We can inspect it and see what's what.
Nick was in with all sorts of information and commentary. Good to hear from you and I applaud your choices for the jukebox: let's head for the crossroads. The Canadas were back at the post office this morning when I picked up mom's daily load of catalogs; she's on every mailing list in the world, I think.
Cartography is fascinating. Both of the huns have inherited my interest in that.
Years ago the WV Geological/Economic Survey published a series of books covering mineral resources in virtually every county in WV. Lots of fascinating material in there covering everything from coal geology to railroads. Each book came with a set of maps covering geology, terrain and there was also a railroad map. These last are particularly useful as they are a snapshot of what was around in the 1920s.
Also, the State of WV has been involved in a project to digitize old mine maps. These are important for reasons such as rescue and for making sure you don't dig into what's called "abandoned works" which can be full of water, dangerous gases, etc.
Last, since you are in the book trade, let me suggest a title that's worth hunting for. James E, Vance, jr, The North American Railroad: Its Origin, Evolution and Geography. Baltimore; Johns Hopkins Press, 1995. IMHO, it's right up there with John Stilgoe's book, Metropolitan Corridor.
Sequential timetable is a good way to go since you can stop and start anywhere and you're not tied to a fast clock. Back when I had a functional layout, I used the sequential table. If I wanted to run freight, I ran freight; if I wanted to run passenger, I could. If I chose to "watchen das trains roll," that's an option as well. I built mine from a 1960 era Official Guide and some appropriate freight schedules. Yes, Awk, coal trains ran as extras which gave me even more flexibility
Allan - Good to hear from you. Canadas, like Boris, are omnivorous. Around here, however, the deer are more of a destructive problem than the geese.
Fergie - See my comment to Eric re headlights.
Eric - Can't be sure as to which bulbs were applied to the locomotives as built. However, all of the pictures I have looked at so far are from the late 40s to early 50s. Coffee Creek link was interesting. If you think race horses eat money, buy a private car.
OSP - Always a good idea to mark out where you are going b4 you dig even though the marks may be approximate. Verizon hit a nearby gas line the other day which was not even on the plat for where they were working. No damage but it will pucker things for awhile. Steam will make a believer out of you after awhile. Nice shot of the PRR 6200 at Englewood. NYC 3144 is a Class L4b Mohawk (an order of 25 and the last 4-8-2s blt for the NYC). It is a Lima product, built in 1943. 26x30 cylinders, 72-inch drivers. I remember seeing NYC 4-8-2s in service on the B&A when I was a youngster.
Wednesday's Witticism
There's always a few longhairs who do their damndest to fertilize the cow country's reputation for being wild and wooly.
Just returned from an invigorating walk with Juneau on this GREAT fall morning! Ahhhhh, dontchajustluvit!
As mentioned previously - I'm heading out for most of the day. Will try to Post my Toy 'n Model Trains Day! piece before shoving off 'round 10 AM, if that is we have a customer to respond to! It's always up to youse guyz to keep things going.
A good time to enjoy our coffee, pastries 'n breakfasts specials! What's the delay
Page 32 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 7:08 PM ‘n 8:02 PM <1:08 AM ‘n 2:02 AM Wednesday GMT>: Our Resident Musician in Wales returned with a two-fer to make it a trifecta nite!
In hopes that Wolfman will call you . . . Regarding work - yeah, it can get in the way more often than not - but one can't ignore the pay!
Canada Geese in Wales! TransAtlantic flights . . . no refueling They do make good sounds in flight . . . but are a pain in the Patoot when it comes to the droppings. <ugh>
Good "tip" for Fergie . . . methinks he'd thoroughly enjoy to food ‘n fare at the St. George Arms Pub - the Rendezvous I OH-FISH-UL after hours HQ.
Mud wrestling ‘n venom spitting Nah, just plain ole politics ad nausea. <barf>
All kinds of good stuff in those submissions ‘n especially liked the details regarding the makeup of your 13 trains! As with you, I have some favorites that make the rounds ‘n rounds ‘n rounds - whereas the rest remain at the ready. It's a fine hobby, in spite of those who delight in criticizing that which so many of us find delight in.
And absolutely - the pricing you put forth IS for the general public - our <GoR> surely deserves ‘n always gets the reduced version.
Many thanx for the inclusiveness ‘n always entertaining chat! ROUNDs help too . . .
Page 32 - Allan <Gunneral> at 9:36 PM <3:36 PM Wednesday NZ DST>: Yeah, I can well imagine one sitting in the projectionist's booth watching a flick over ‘n over ‘n over. Probably have the soundtrack still imbedded, eh
And yeah, I can relate to the long-term memory stuff, although thus far - the short term is better ‘n average. Can't say the same for "me bride" <as Pete likes to say> . . . there are times when I really wonder. <grin>
Speaking of the better-half, I told her about her "countrymen" being on the wing in downunder territory ‘n she too was amazed. Now that's one hulluva flight! <geesh> Must be the attraction to the Tui, eh Those Canada Geese are EVERYWHERE! <grin>
Luv the names of the various sports teams! Surprised that some still exist in this day of "sensitivity" over pretty much EVERYTHING! Permit some to enter your country on the premise that they will assimilate ‘n in short order they're demonstrating against the values ‘n way of life that afforded them entry. <barf>
Appreciate the visit, chat ‘n of course the ROUND of Tui!
Thursday is Fish ‘n Chips Nite!
Nick. Another great tasty menu at very reasonable prices`. The Wallabies are now coached by the Kiwi Robbie Deans who coached the very successful Canterbury Crusader`s Super 14 team, he really should be the AB`s coach after the RWC debacle according to most AB fans here. A very comprehensive sequence timetable with train consists for your running sessions, nice to see you have included some Gresley stock in that sleeper train. Hope Pete and Alan give you a ring while their in the Brum area, it would be good to have a chat with them. Did you say all of NCIS`s Abby`s tattoos`? bring it on!
CM3. There are some Canadas` over here as well, mostly in the Christchurch area of the South Island, they have to cull them every year because of all the damage they are causing to the cereal crops there.
Rob. Looks as if your having that same problem that I was having getting on site, I do`nt log off nowadays as Tom suggested a while ago.
Eric. Nice link the the Coffee Creek observation car, a very interesting restoration project. Thanks for that link to the Godwit site. A good shot of Vito`s new office, it looks a bit ominous!
Fergie. Have a great trip, hope you manage to meet up with Rob whilst your in the Brantford area.
Tom. Some of those flicks from BITD are hard to forget as we used to show them for at least a week at a time, they say that our long term memories are a lot better than our short term ones`, my bride always concurs with that anyway! Sounds as if those Canada geese are causing the same problems in your area as they are over here. We had lunch at the Napier Services Club on Monday, the smorgesboard was NZ$13 each, which is a bargain, had an extra round of Tui for you and the guys` too.
Back for more-
FERGIE- NCIS-am also a fan-the only one of that whole slew that `cuts the mustard` for a Brit-Would love to see ALL of Abby`s tattoos -the CSI stuff is worse acting than my daughters school play.................
TOM-Sorry,should have mentioned, advertised prices are just for `Joe Public`-regulars get the 50% discount......
Leon-better do the business again-a large one for FERGIE before he is launched into the living hell that is `wife in big city shopping mode` (good luck mate )
O.K-as its prolly gonna be wednesday before most of you read this, thought I might be a bit previous and drop into Pikes Perspective mode-
Well, have cobbled together a sequence T/table for the layout-have yet to test it out and a couple of trains in reserve to fill in any gaps-
basically we have 13 trains and 32 movements-wont waste bandwidth with the full detail but thought a list of the trains might be of interest...
1-Pines Express-Bournemouth-Manchester & return-5 B.R Mk1 coaches inc diner -Green
2-Cardiff-Bournemouth express-3 Colletts & 2 Staniers-Carmine & Cream
3-Through Sleeper-Mixed Mk 1`s & Gresleys plus van-Maroon & C/C
4-Weymouth local-Cl 33 + Southern Electric 3rd rail 4-set-Green
5-B/mouth-Bath local-4 Maunsell coaches -Green
6-Bath-B/mouth local-3 mk 1`s-Maroon & Green
7-Bath-Bristol local-1 Collett-Carmine & Cream
8-Parcels-Bath-B/mouth-up to 5 assd vans
9-XP-Express freight,-assd fitted vans,flats etc
10-Coal-Loads in,empties out, plus coke loads from Bath Gasworks
11-Through freight-mixed loads
12-Tanks-Esso tanks -Avonmouth-Hamworthy
13-Pick -up gds-all the stragglers to be collected plus some loads to set out
N.B-the passenger locals do several `turns` everything else just runs once out and back
Hope this is of some small interest......
Leon-nightcaps for all please-I think the special brandy should do it............
Well gentlemen-I guess PETE & DAN should have had their meet at Birmingham New Street stn earlier-I look forward to seeing the pix-shame I couldn`t join them but today was a work day-and 100 or so happy bunnies should have their brand new books dropping on the mat tomorrow-is quite a nice feeling making that happen -also the $130 I got paid for doing it helps.......
O.K-I think it is time for the long and winding road-ah what the heck-lets have a Mentor Rickshaw home-I can afford the 75 cents plus tip......
Sleep well all-I know I will...
My my-there`s an interesting and eclectic bunch of posts..-well done all..
Leon-better go for the litre steins again please old love-this might take a while..........
Lets have some music while I think-how about a blues selection tonight-Junior Wells,Bessie Smith ,Ray Charles,Otis Spann,Mr Muddy (of course) John Lee (likewise) Willie Dixon (who else) and for the real feel Mr Robert Johnson-lets hope it drowns out the reportage from the mud wrestling and venom spitting contest down in Tennessee tonight..............
O.K-to business
TOM-saws & chippers-Have always found Husqvana saws to be good to go-although sharpening the chains is as tedious a job as one might wish for-always go for one with carbon-steel teeth if poss-just like kitchen knives, they hold the `edge` longer --with chippers, the manufacturers tend to eggagerate the abilities of the machine-if it says `will eat 1/2 " round`it generally means`will get sick on anything more than1/4" brush`............
Like yourself,I associate the name `Sabre Jet` with Korea-age precludes `real` experience but a childhood diet of the brilliant M*A*S*H helped cement my opinions ..........
To easier topics,NMRA-have no experience with them other than trying the car weighting standards-seems to improve running,so am cool with that..Can appreciate that these organisations can get very cliquey and holier than thou-no use to me at all-can`t be doing with it....
Havn`t tried Con-Cor products-they certainly look fine in your pix and if they run well--job done says I-I would agree with ROB-R.E wheelsets-not only do they clean the track but they reduce the frictive co-efficient which can only increase motor life---plus that lovely clickety-click on the joints which we all love so well
It would seem we have a house majority on the war graves issue-nuff said there..
Glad you enjoyed yesterdays submission-and thanks for the drink -I`ll have a special rum
ALLAN-Have mentioned before how similar Wales & New Zealand look-could be something to do with the procession of coaching staff over here -(bring back Graham Henry says I-for England though ) could we be looking at a new tradition of service to match the Swiss Guards at the Vatican or the Gurkha regiment..... More contentious is the Wasps coach taking a job `over the border`-my dear old mum can get quite vocal on the subject...
BTW-Any updates on the take over you mentioned some time ago..?? -interested parties and all that....
SHANE-Now maps-theres a subject dear to my heart-If I could have my time again I would love to have been a cartographer-the greatest pleasure I get from any trip away is getting the map sheets first and working out where everything is -how much more of a thrill to be there on the ground doing the mapping -can sit down with an O.S sheet and read it with as much pleasure as a good book-
incidentally,I note you describe your enlargement as 11x17-over here that would be 17x11-just one of the many differences
Canada geese-we have huge numbers of them stopping over here-they usually `flock` (if thats the word) about a mile upriver from here-the river and surrounding fields are black with them for weeks at a time-must admit, rather like the sound of the `wings`(or is it `skeins`?) flying in and calling to each other........
ROB-Prototypes and models-well,they must get them from somewhere-most of the Brit steam models are taken from preserved examples (to allow accurate measuring I assume)-I guess statistically they must be near someone........agree your points R.E wheelsets ( I realise I was preaching to the choir but given the number of `silent` viewers we have ,I thought somebody might find it useful-gotta pass it on somehow)
The coal train tale was a beaut..-can imagine the appalling silence as the poor soul was picking them all up again-my heart goes out actually-must have been a horrible moment....
On a linked theme-several times recently there have been serious de-railments at Cochrane yard where the C.N bridge traffic that the O.N.R are carrying has dug up the rails and settled in the dirt-usually seems to be covered gons for some reason........
FERGIE-Interesting things to do in Brantford #1-drink beer with ROB
#2-see above..repeat as neccessary....
ERIC-Sorry mate-have been flat out since we last spoke, but will get on the case R.E #57 as soon as I have a moment-I suspect there were several of them but won`t commit until I have firm data
A final note on the avian front:- now this may be another urban myth,
Scenario:-testing of new jet aero engine-part of test involves resistance to flying into flocks of birds-test involves firing chicken into engine-result-total destruction of fan blades etc, memo sent to engine manufacturer-what to do-reply sent " try defrosting chicken..."
O.K-gonna post this and try for a record 3rd post (will he make it...??? ) well-missisnick is taking the monkey to school tomorrow ,so YES HE WILL !!

And TWO more have made it "in" before the sun has reached the horizon in Can-Am County! Nice turnout in the daylite!
To the Acknowledments!
Page 32 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 5:02 PM <11:02 PM GMT>: Hmmmm, as Proprietor - cut those prices in HALF, Mate - that'll be plenty to sustain the way we DO things 'round here! Can-Am County hasn't been impacted by the world-wide near panic <yet>.
Many thanx for the Brandy! Have a beverage of your choice on the house!
All kinds of good things to savor on your Menu, all befitting of a Chief Chef who is unparalled in culinary specialties of the house. <phew>
Appreciate the "bookmark" - THAT's the WAY to DO IT!
Page 32 - Fergie <Fergmiester> at 6 PM <8 PM ADT>: Back with a surprise visit <actually, they are ALL surprises!> Not sure about the need for the cut 'n paste . . . but whatever floats you boat!
Logged on but walking away is a <tweetable> OH-FENCE! <geesh> But, it will be held in abeyance . . . Hmmmmm. Nice try, but NO seegar with the 'sauce' - we don't feature soda shoppe -type orders! <uh oh>
Good to know that you KNOW your PLACE in the pecking order when it comes to husbands 'n wives. Learned that a loooooooooong time ago. <grin>
We haven't watched "regular" TV 'round here in ages - only exception is "24" which has my bride "hooked." She was devasted at missing the entire last season due to whatever strike kept 'em off the air . . . but they'll be baaaaaaaaack. <groan>
Appreciate the 2nd shot at trying to regain your "status" at the bar!
A head's up: I'll be away from the bar from mid-morning 'til late afternoon on Wednesday!
Catch ya in the 'morrow!

Unfortunately I has this bad habit of logging on and then walking away from the puter... sometimes for hours on end
Lisa is the kinda girl ho doesn't hold grudges, no sir they become embedded! This is why I will never cross the track on her... ever! Better to lay down on them and take it like a man! Less painful too.
As to the Tweeting sorry I forgot to order that covered in Nova Scotian Apple Wine\
Eric: Look in a few books and all I saw was the 4-8-4's, 4-6-4's and 2-8-4's all had the double bulbed headlights. pictures were @ early 50's. Also saw a picture of a B&O beast with a double headlight. Wonder if this was a state law and might have had something to do with Passenger type engines. Though the Allegheny and Mountain was a single bulb.
Anyway enough chat NCIS is coming on.
Later
Well good evening gentlemen all-another day another dollar as they say, Leon-beers for the company please and see if we can tickle the bossmans fancy with a large brandy for turning the page --just a quickie before I nip out to the galley-got a sweet deal on a full striploin of prime Welsh black ( I suspect Vito`s influence here ) so we are looking at some midweek specials,-how about 6oz Sirloin subs (with onions, mushrooms and secret recipe horseradish-makes wasabi look like burger relish).....or for the serious diner-12 oz Sirloin with fries/jacket,onion rings, mushrooms, grilled tomato and salad or veg de jour and sauce of your choice.....For an early-bird breakfast/lunch special try the body-builder:- 8oz steak,2 fried eggs, hash browns or waffles, bottomless coffee mug and a courtesy copy of the Gazette to enjoy while you digest your food-have yet to price it up but $5 for the sub,$20 for the dinner & $10 for the breakfast looks to be a good ball-park figure-
O.K-back in a bit

I see Fergie emerged from his busy, busy life to spend a wee bit o' time on his stool AND Shane also swung by for his refill this day. <sweet> Surely helps to have some daylite conversations 'round here . . . thanx, Gents!
Then Eric too!
Let me get to a semblance of "real time" Acknowldgments while I have the TIME! <grin>
Just took a "sneak" preview of my Christmas present - a Pennsy K4 Pacific w/tender <Bachmann Spectrum series> 'n Athearn caboose. Test ran 'n placed on Carol's desk for wrapping for the holidays. At this stage of life - I enjoy receiving what I feel like giving myself! <grin> So, that makes 11 steamers for the display case which is rapidly filling . . . figure there's only room for a few more w/cabooses of course.
Had me worried there for a sec - thought you said you were at a psycho thereapy - which of course makes sense! <uh oh>
Have a wunnerful time away 'n hope you 'n Lisa get everything accomplished in the window of time available. Believe me, WE surely know about that sort of thing! We'll keep your stool at the ready 'n of course will be looking for ya in a couple of weeks.
Page 31 - CM3 Shane <coalminer3 at 1:54 PM <2:54 PM EDT>: Surprise visit in the form of a refill from our Resident WVA Connection! Many thanx for recognizing we can use all the help we can muster up during daylite in these times of so few available regulars.
Appears that 4-6-6-4 steamer flicked your Bic! <grin> Appreciate the ensuring chat . . .
Ah, I see you've ordered a "little something," which of course we just finished concocting out in the outback in the barrel with the smoking seams! <yikes> Kickapoo Joy Juice comin' right up!
I'm here to tell ya that the more I see those steamers being "test run," the more I've become enamored with 'em. It's easy to understand how one gets hooked on 'em for real. Especially given life's experiences. I really didn't see too many in New York City - but we've discussed that before. I was therefore weened on the GG1s and diesels of PRR, NYC, NH & B&O times. Ahhhhh.
Hope the malady-monster has departed your digs! <geesh> Looks like Boris, eh Now THAT IS frightening! <yikes>
Thanx for the visit, chat 'n business! <KaChing> <KaChing>
Page 31 - Eric <EricX2000> at 2:42 PM <12:42 PM Sandbox time>: Just caught your Post before depositing this into the Ether!
Some of the deadwood is okay for the fireplace, most not. Don't like bringing critters into the house that are sleeping then awaken to the warmth of the interior -if you know what I mean! <yikes>
When Carol 'n I spent our 10 days on the west coast in 1996 (5 in Seattle - 5 in Portland) - the sun shone every day that August for us. It was terrific - most picturesque, fer sure, fer sure.
So THAT's why there's a "hit" out for Boris lodged by Mountain Man Mike! Explains it all. <geesh> Some guys just can't take a joke, eh <grin>
Came home today from the 2nd walk with Juneau <in between the rain drops> 'n noticed all kinds of paint markings on our lawn - front, sides 'n back. Wondered WHAT in bloody blazes was going on.
There's all kinds of utility crews in our area - literally destroying front lawns 'n the like. Thought the worst.
BUT, I managed to see the guy who was doing the marking 'n he explained that it was in connection the "landscaping work" I had contracted. We have a law that sez all untility lines must be marked before any digging gets done. <phew> So, of course, the guy marked every one - every easement, etc. With the work being contracted restricted to the front of the house only - I guess they are required to mark everything. BUT, at least I KNOW 'n that also means it can't be too long before things get moving for us!
Most interesting "office" for Vito - reminds me of a place I used to frequent as a kid! Called the Detention Center! <grin>
Many thanx for thinking of us during daylite! And of course, thanx for the ROUND!
Later <maybe>!
Ruth, my dear, wonderful, wonderful! Food? Oh, yes, I'll have a #5 and a cold Keith's, please! Did you? Hmm, yeah that wall came right off! Even the safe blow open. A lot of money, I know. I'm glad Vito wasn't here. Was he?
Tuesday and time for a break at the Tavern by the Siding!
Nick – Ahh, I should have thought about looking in the galley! Thanks for the info on #57! Did B.R. order any more of that type? I have heard that name, Rootes, before and now when you mentioned auto-parts it rings a bell! Thank you!Tom – I guess you are using all that deadwood in your fireplace. I was looking (but never asked) for the MoPac car last May, but didn't see it. It is probably in the big shed. Maybe they are working on it? Gas here is now in the low $3.20’s.No, it was an accident at the Second Class Saloon. One of Vito’s guys came down to Our Place and went to Boris’ shed to borrow a can of fuel to get their grill up and running. He took the wrong can and got a can of high octane fuel for airplanes. Boris got that fuel after reading about that old Halifax bomber, just in case. Anyway, the grill started in a kind of explosive way and blow off a good portion of the back wall of the saloon. The corner where Vito has (hrrmm, had) his office. I have actually been in Seattle when the sun was shining from a blue sky! But most of the time it has been cloudy (and some rain). Allan – Godwits? Interesting, they have special Godwits Days in California in the spring, see the linkhttp://www.godwitdays.com/Yes, I like to take a break from mowing the lawn in the winter. CM3 – Hmm, I checked now and all pictures are showing up the way they are supposed to. Maybe Boris...? Thanks for the info on the headlights! So they had that kind of headlights with the twin bulbs in the 40’s? Rob – I hope and think you are right about the MoPac car. I’ll see if I can find any pictures from Lake Mjøsa among my slides from those trips. Very possible. Fergie – Yes, it is strange about those dreams. I have two different ones, one with a set of EMU’s and one with a locomotive and passenger cars. It always ends with me waking up the same moment the crash happens. Have a nice trip!!
Entrance to Vito's new office.
Found an interesting link.
