Good Morning Vietnam <1988>
PLOT SUMMARY: Academy Award - winner Robin Williams shakes up 1965 Saigon in the role critics agree he was born to play -- irreverent, nonconformist deejay Adrian Cronauer. Imported by the Army for an early a.m. radio show, Cronauer blasts the formerly staid, sanitized airwaves with a constant barrage of rapid-fire humor and the hottest hits from back home. The G.I.s love him -- but the brass is up in arms! Riddled with sidesplitting comic bombshells and studded with hot '60s hits, the film depicts Cronauer's raucous Saigon adventures amid a world gone mad. GOOD MORNING VIETNAM is a direct hit -- the classic Robin Williams comedy! <from: amazon.com> Crocodile Dundee <1986> PLOT SUMMARY: Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee is an Australian crocodile hunter who lives in the Australian outback and runs a safari business with his trusted friend and mentor Walter Reilly. After surviving a crocodile attack, a New York journalist named Sue arrives to interview Mick about how he survived and learns more about the crocodile hunter. After saving Sue from a crocodile, Sue invites Mick to visit New York City, since Mick has never been to a city. Mick finds the culture and life in New York City a lot different than his home and he finds himself falling in love with Sue. Written by Daniel Williamson <from: IMDb.com> SHORT: Hugs and Mugs <1950> PLOT SUMMARY: After a prison stretch for jewel robbery, three beautiful women search for a pearl necklace the police never found. Unfortunately for them, the warehouse where they hid it sold the pearls for back storage fees to three furniture repairman, Moe, Larry & Shemp. The girls follow the Stooges to their shop, and pretend to flirt with them as a distraction, so they can search the shop for the necklace. But the molls' gangster ex-boyfriends are hot on their trail, and slapstick mayhem ensues when the Stooges come to the girls' defense. <from: threestooges.net> * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Enjoy the weekend! Tui always appreciated as well!

Many thanx for the continuing support in spite of the nightmarish events of past days <daze> on these rinky-dink Pages. Hasn't been pleasurable for anyone who does more than simple narrative. Just a huge pain in the Patoot. BUT there IS a light at the end of this tunnel, Mate! Good times they are "a-coming"!!
Thanx for the inclusive Post ‘n ROUND!
Emporium Theatre listings later in the day . . .
Good evening Captain Tom and Gentlemen!!
Leon, I'm back, I think I'll have Filet Mignon with mushrooms and Reform Sauce, whatever that is. Tui, please!
It sounded like Boris is having a party back in his shed, a lot of loud music and voices. No, I didn't want to check what was going on.
Seems like Nick is having more problems posting. That is not acceptable.
Allan – I see your problem with a fast connection to Internet. But at the same time, it is nice to live way out of town. I used to live in the middle of nowhere in the old country. Very nice. Glad you liked the photos! Can you tell how many degrees the car body is tilting?Rob – I’ll see if I can find any info on European locomotives equipped with booster. I would say you have a good taste about diesel locomotives! Tom – Good collection of photos! The F9A at KCity Union Station looks very nice! I like the paint scheme! I am not big on snow and ice though! Branson Scenic Railway #99 looks different. I can see an old Amtrak baggage car in the background, #1617. Rebuilt from hospital car. Hmm, three strange looking guys in front of Kirkwood station. So far I haven’t had any problems with the size of the photos. My problems are all about creating/typing/posting. Lars – Thanks for the drink! I hope you are going to talk to Boris about the changes he did to this forum! You are one of very few he will ever listen to. A very good mix of books and DVDs today! I’ll pick the Western Pacific Steam Pictorial! It looks very interesting. And so does UP’s Streamliner Collection DVD! Nick – My first thought was Glad you could make it here tonight! Then you ran into the same stupid thing again! What the heck is going on?Reform Sauce? What the heck is that? Any recipe? No, hold it, I better not see it.
Something for Rob. Trondheim, Norway 1968.
Round for the house!!
Eric
Well well-its happened again-another hours worth of posting put in the hands of the moderator-sorry guys but I cant be doing with this-its been a good ride-as the old blues players used to say:-see you out on the road-take care now
Nick
Well then-looks like the galley is in order for a while,so lets pull up my stool ( the mahogany number with the brass fittings, safety straps, wing mirrors and other small personal details <the spittoon is a nice touch I feel> ) and take my ease for a while-Apologies to all-havn`t done my homework tonight (bit of a lock-out situation-no idea why ) However-the show must go on---so Leon-I`ll have a large shot of Lambs navy rum with LARS,and a pint of TUI with ALLAN-thank you both gents -and lets see what happens-heard a new joke today but is so horrid even fat Steve the drummer would wince at it so wont bother you with it.........However here is a slightly more acceptable one-what is the connection between boobs and train sets ?-both meant for kids but enjoyed by dads......I know,it`s terrible isnt it ....
Well then-lets see If I can re-post the pix I tried for earlier.................
img{}/img
Well here is novelty kettle time-a De-Winton vertical boiler tank at a gala day at the Teifi Valley railway-and no ERIC,I still havn`t figured out what the make of the fire engine is-although my guess would be a Dennis.....
And heres a couple for all those that think the County Donegal was run exclusively by `contraptions`-here is #2 Blanche with a healthy string of freight wagons
And here she is again with an elderly rake of coaches on a special--both pix from 1958
So then TOM-over to you for this one.................
A summers afternoon at Castle Caereinion <care-eye-knee-on> with an ex-Feldbahn 0-8-0t taking the train from Welshpool to Llanfair Caereinion-<thlan-vai-ar {see above} >............
O.K gonna try and post this and see what happens.....
back in a bit.....
Hi Tom and all,
Leon, the usual round of Tui`s for all the guys` please!
Eric. Good to see you in again with a fine spread of pix of your X2000 train, a very interesting compilation, it was good to see the one with it tilted like that.
Rob. Good to see you in again, looks as if we are getting the hang of this place now.
Lars. Great to see you in again so soon, a really great surprise for today`s visit in. A fine set of covAHS from the Larsman`s Bookmobile. Looks as if you got over all the obstacles of getting onto the new site.
Nick. Hope you get the posting hassle sorted out soon, i`ve got a slow page loading hassle at the moment!
Tom. Sorry to read that the Tui gal site did`nt come up too good for you, their was a YouTube Tui ad that is quite a humerous one on there. It would be really great to see the Raton Pass in reality for sure, the icing on the cake would be to meet up with you and all the gang for a real good talkfest. A really great spread of pix from your vast collection of fotos` in your latest Random Fotos` posting, that was a good one of Pete, Doug, and Eric outside Kirkwood Station.
See ya, Allan
Well heres a thing-Am tolerably used to being barred from licensed premises, but its normally the landlord that does it,rather than the corporation that owns the building....-gonna try and redo the `lost` post as an edit to this one and see what happens-The games afoot Watson
O.K-where was I -Ah yes-outside struggling with a locked door.....
So-It`s saturday and I`ve got the galley for the night `cos Boris & Copperkettle and busy fawning round LARSMAN-and good to see you too sir -
Looks like we had better get some food sorted out....
A late start so we are looking at a simple bill of fare tonight:-
Starters-Vegetable samosa`s with chutney tray
Ardennes pate with toast and Reform sauce
Smoked trout fillets with gooseberry coulis and wholemeal roll
Mains-The Mentor Mountain Mixed grill-Steak,gammon,pork chop, kidneys, sausages, black pudding, double fried egg, toms, mushrooms & onion rings plus a big dish of fries
Mentor Mountain Salmon -fresh from the sparkling waters, poached in rum ,lime & ginger and served on a bed of crispy rosti with a big bowl of special salad
The Haus Special raised paste game galatine pie-Our unique concoction of traditional Melton Mowbray pie pastry ,packed with duck, venison, rabbit, turkey & cranberry & port wine jelly-served cold with a selection of full bodied cheeses, pickles & chutneys, oven fresh bread and the special sald
To follow,we naturally have our justly famed dessert trolley
Enjoy
SPECIAL for NICK!
Email received 'n responded to . . . have NO clue what this is all about. Wouldn't know how to advise you other than what I've included in my Email. Moderated Hmmmmmm. Unbelievable - but then again, perhaps not given the "flow" of things 'round here.
Keep me Posted, Mate! And remember - we too have options!
For our <GoR> Nick has apparently been prevented from Posting at the bar 'n requires approval before he does. Confusing 'n most irritating, eh If this develops into anything further - I'll keep you clued in on our "back channel net."
O.K-gonna try another one, then if that works, try a proper post----------
Hey there boss-amm indeed `out there`-as opposed to `in there`-looks like someone changed the locks.....
<Lehigh Valley Camelback 4-6-0 #1623 (from: yesteryeardepot.com - foto credit: unknown)>
Not that there's been a crowd in here today, for it's been really sloooooooow during daylite. However, figured may as well get these out, then secure it for the remainder of this day.
Greetings Nick! I know you're out there . . .
Page 55 - Lars <LoveDomes> at 4:14 PM <5:14 PM EDT>: In what appeared to be a "wash out" during daylite along came our Senior Manager <Emeritus> to save the day. Saturdays are most times very slow ‘n with Pete away we've been saved by Eric several times too! Anyway, very surprised, but pleased to have the Larsman on board.
Noticed you Posted over on "my other Thread" as well AND Nick did as well! Sooooo, who knows what's in store for the remainder of this day!
Best thing I can offer regarding the Forums situation is that it IS getting better. Don't feel that there's any point in my belaboring a bad situation - it's all been said ‘n we're at the mercy as "guests."
Enjoyed your "summary" ‘n you seemed to have covered the hi-lites quite well. Then those covAHs of yours hit the spot from the Larsman Mobile. Looks like the automatic downsizing "worked" for some of ‘em. Nice selection for the gang!
By the by, the guy who authored your Wabash selection - Donald Heimburger - is quite a nice fellow. He's HUGE in the S-gauge world ‘n really walked me through all kinds of issues that I was having while making up my mind to go or not go with S for what became the S-Capades <named by Nick!>. Anyway, a really fine guy who isn't above helping out interested parties . . .
Heading over to Ruth's for "din-din," eh Yeah - right! <ooooooops>
Thanx a whole-hulluva-lot for coming in on this sloooooooooow Saturday. Guess Fergie's out driving his truck - Eric is doing whatever Sandmen do in the desert - Rob's probably working or working at something - ‘n that pretty much is our "base" for weekends during daylite. Not very deep, eh
Visit, ROUND, covAHs ‘n chat most appreciated!
Page 55 - Eric <EricX2000> at 6:38 PM <4:38 PM Sandbox time>: Just eeked out the glimmer of daylite remaining in these parts to "qualify"! <grin> Didn't think we'd see ya, but there you were. Glad I checked BEFORE Posting!
Your 5 Fotos came thru nicely ‘n were automatically downsized by the Forums. Apparently there's progress in that area.
Many thanx for the visit, Pix ‘n ROUND!
Leon, good to see you are alert! No, just a Tuborg Gold this time, please! I'll be back later for something to eat.
Noticed that our Senior Manager Lars has been here! Nice surprise!
I've just scanned some photos I haven't shown earlier so here they are:
Lancaster, PA.
Hard to see but there are actually three sets of RTLs side by side. Albany, NY.
X2000 on display, Albany, NY. 1993.
Approaching Red Wing, MN. 1993.
Merced, CA.
I'll be back later!
Well good evening gents, looks like I`m manning the galley tonight as Boris & Copperkettle are off fawning over LARSMAN (good to see ya Mate ) -Thought I`d drop off a bookmark and a few pix to hold the fort whilst I`m prepping up for the saturday night rush...Leon-I`m gonna grab a few cold ones to take out with me-be a darling and take for a bottle of brandy for thr guys to complement LAR`s round-speaking of which,I`ll have a Lambs navy rum with him please...AHHHHHH-that tingles the tootsies
Right, what have we got in the lucky bag tonight.....?
Well-we have seen the Railcars (`contraptions` as certain parties would have it ) on the County Donegal-well here is one of their rather fine 2-6-4 tanks with a respectable load of freight leaving Strabane for Letterkenney in 1958
And in the same year, the same engine ( #2 `Blanche`) arriving at Lough Eske withh a Strabane-Ballyshannon special
And `novelty kettle time`-A De-Winton vertical boiler at a gala day on the Teifi Valley line
Here is a former Feldbahn 0-8-0 tank at Castle Caereinion <care-eye-knee-on> on the Welshpool & Llanfair <thlan-vi-ar>
Right then-steaks to fry, onions to chop, staff to brutalise-you know how it is..........
Back in a bit
Ahoy Cap'n Tom ‘n fellow travelers at the bar!!
Cindy my lovely, ‘tis the Larsman back on a Saturday afternoon with a little cheer for the bar - set ‘em up and ring that bell, Boris!
Looks like this place (forum) was hit by a "nor-easter"! Everything has been upset, so it seems. My computer geek son (who makes a good living at programming, web site maintenance, security, storage of files and much more) thinks Boris could've done a bettAH job at the change. So, I'll let it go at that.
I'll pass on the food, except for the snack tray but surely will take a double jolt of JD on the rocks, if you please. Something to warm up the innards! <brrrrrrrrrrrr> Winter's chill is on the way.
Took me quite a while to get on, then longer to check out what has gone by since my last visit. Pages have changed, not to mention some photos that "grab ya" due to their sheer size!
So, here's my rundown of what Da Bossman has provided one and all since my last visit on the 11th of October:
Random Fotos from his travels (liked ‘em all, but the best was that shot from the dome up in Gaspe!) - Emporium movies: 49th Parallel & Mystery Alaska. Didn't see the first one, but really enjoyed the second! - More Random Fotos (liked the one of the St. George Arms! Is that Theodorebear walking into the shot?) - Classic Steam Locos (beautiful Hudsons!) - Hi-Speed Rail #2 (liked ‘em all!) - Emporium Movies: Cross of Iron & Slap Shot. Again, didn't see the first, but absolutely loved the second! - More RANDOM Fotos (of course the dome shot was best! ) - Santa Fe Pleasure Dome ad (nicely done!) - Fallen Flag for the B&M passenger ops - with some mighty fine looking RDCs! - Six Pack Special #15 (I liked the one Atlantic City one best!) - Fallen Flag for the New Haven (brought a tear to the eye!) - Santa Fe Nostalgia ad for their great passenger trains! - that "bunch" of Canadian "stuff" - now there are some fine pix in that spread! - More RANDOM Fotos (ok, who's the babe! Makes one want to travel by train in Canada!).
Then of course all of your "header pix," B'day Watch List (with YOUNG Ferige!), the RR Book Relay status, and great stuff you include along the way! The joke from barndad's collection really brought back some good memories. There's a guy who helped make this place "click."
And of course platitudes (that's a fancy word, huh?) to the gang for coming through for Da Bossman when things were mighty rough. Nick did lots of overtime with all of his pix-posting, as did Rob & Eric. Nice ships from north of the border from Rob! All kinds of interesting "stuff," far more than I can do justice to. Just let me offer you guyz a drink! And fill ‘em up for Allan in NZ of course AND CM3 I'm NOT Shane somewhere in the hills of west Virginia! Oh yeah, can't forget the Fergieman up there in Nova Scotia. New truck, huh? Must be doing well now that your drawing the big bucks! Good to see that you've taken a liking to the bar! It kinda grows on ya, huh? Have one on me, Skipper Fergie!
Did notice that Pete dropped by. Did he ever check his phone messages? Anyway, it says a lot about a guy when there's time taken to drop by the bar while on vacation. To my way of thinking, guys who do that are really "into" what this place is all about and don't let it all land squarely on Da Bossman's shoulders. 5 to the Wolfman!
Must mention that I haven't been able to load those links from Eric. BUT, take heart, Geekson #2 is "on it."!
Also picked up on a newcomer, James is it Haven't seen a return though. But at least there's HOPE! to ya, mate! Any friend of this bar is a friend of mine! You're included in that ROUND as well!
Now for something from the Larsman Mobile before I head over to Ruth's place for a little <ahem> early dinner! <blush>
Cap'n Tom: I'll call ya this weekend!
GO JINTS (NFL) and RANGERS (NHL)!
Until the next time!
Lars
Saturday Yarns from the Barn
<from barndad Doug's Posts from the Past>
A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money. The first does a total make over. She goes to a fancy beauty salon gets her hair done, new make up and buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much. The man was impressed. The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much. Again, the man is impressed. The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much. Obviously, the man was impressed. The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he'd given her. Then, he married the one with the biggest boobs.
Saturday at the Watering Hole by the Wayside ‘n time for a mid-morning breakfast bill o' fare!
Wound up a good week at the bar with some rather consistent daylite Posting from our small but eager <GoR>!
From the It Was Too Good To Be True Dept: Blues have dropped two in succession on home ice – first to the Red Wings then last nite to the Kings. Only 75 more games to go ‘til the real season begins! <geesh>
Friday - October 24th <all times Central daylite>:
Page 54 - CM3 Shane <coalminer3> at 8:42 AM <9:42 AM EST>: And a voice from the chilly hills of WVA is heard from - good to see Shane at the bar on this brisk morning.
Wunnerful "funny" - haven't seen the likes of such humor <???> since barndad Doug days <daze> Now there's a fondly remembered UTB - wonder what happened to our friend from Illinois Guess he's frolicking with his hosses, etc. . . . Surely miss the guy - a fine asset to the bar ‘n the way we do things!
Used to date a gal who lived up off the Grand Concourse - not far from Yankee Stadium. Had alternate side of the street parking EVERY MORNING - which was a huge Pain-in-the-Patoot when one wanted to sleep in. Couldn't . . . had to move that car, otherwise . . . Found it was far easier to get another gal . . . <grin>
Always good stuff when it comes to the New Haven - one of my most-favorite roads from "back in the day." I've explained away my experiences at an iteration or two of "Our" Place - no need to go thru it again. Just was a pleasure traveling aboard those trains as a young adult . . .
I deliberately downsized that B&M painting - figured it would obliterate the Page otherwise - a shame, for there's quite a bit of detail to enjoy had it been subject to enlarging by the Forums. Don't know what the criteria is for that - and probably never will. <groan>
Email exchange was good for the morale!
Talk of the hockey Harford Whalers, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Flames AND Phil Esposito <'n the Broons> surely brings me back to better times . . . Ahhhhhhhhhh. Used to catch the Bruins on Channel 30 (UHF) . . . loved those games during both successful runs at the Cup. It was hockey the way it was meant to be played. Ahhhhhhhhhh.
Had the WS game #2 on split screen, then "dumped it" for the nightly news ‘n went to bed. Figured the Rays would win at least one at home . . . but I honestly don't care. As a friend of mine used to say, "Makes me no never mind!" <Say Whut??>
Fine inclusive offering with a ROUND for the house ‘n quarters for Herr Wurlitzer's Coal Scuttle <adjusted for inflation, of course!>
Page 54 - Fergie <Fergmiester> at 11:20 AM <1:20 PM ADT>: Our truck-driving Skipper arrived with a fine Post of this ‘n that for the crew!
As previously commented upon - it was enjoyable speaking with you by fone, albeit too briefly, but I'm sure we'll get to Part Deux before your next voyage!
So, WHAT did you purchase at your favorite Hobby Shop Curious mind needs to know - perhaps even a Foto would "do it"! Man goes out, purchases a new truck ‘n still has cash left over for his hobby. Now that's what I call DEDICATION! <grin>
Smart move on getting a 2008 vehicle as the 2009s begin showing up. That's pretty much how we did it with our Volvo in 2001. Why not <censored> things depreciate a bundle simply by driving ‘em off the lot. <barf>
You can attempt to "justify" ‘n "convince" us of your "needs" - but it does sound more like you are trying to do that for YOURSELF! <grin> Hey! We've all been there ‘n done that - enjoy your purchase ‘n to bloody blue blazes with what others think. You're the guy paying the freight!
Didn't realize your son's had sprung up to that tall! What in the world are you putting in the feed bag <grin>
Many thanx for thinking of us!
Page 54 - Eric <EricX2000> at 6:44 PM <4:44 PM Sandbox time>: Just made it "in" before dark ‘round here - as the skies began clearing for you!
Absolutely "right on" with your comment regarding the unimportance of language when it comes to those fantastic Fotos in your Swedish Private Rail Car tour of America URLs . . . in those instances, pictures do indeed "say" a thousand words. These are MUST viewing for our crew . . . you're denying yourself of an OPPORTUNITY to enjoy perhaps the finest we've EVER experienced at the bar in terms of rail tour Fotos.
I can't stress often enough how RELIEVED we are to not have to worry about returning to a flooded basement after a get-away. This has been a tough year ‘round here - cancelled two trips - expended a great deal of anxiety over this - sopped up enough water to fill a good sized backyard pool <well, perhaps that IS an exaggeration!> ‘n ; lots of time waiting for promises of help to come to fruition. Yeah, we're most RELIEVED to put this behind us. <phew>
As much as I enjoy viewing your X2000 Fotos <and I DO!!> it saddens me to realize that Amtrak could've wound up with several sets - but opted out. How very, very disappointing ‘n that's an understatement. <barf>
I'm still wondering about this CHANGE to the Forums when it comes to that automatic downsizing of Fotos. It's a great idea WHEN IMPLEMENTED - but it seems to be an "on again/off again" proposition. Yeah, I know - working out the bugs. Hmmmmmm. Nahhhhhh, I won't go there . . . .
Glad the "Big Dig" Fotos worked for you!
Many thanx for the fine inclusive Post, Foto ‘n of course the ROUND!
Page 54 - Allan <Gunneral> at 8:10 PM <2:10 PM Saturday NZ DST>: Came thru with a URL for the Tui Gals -unfortunately it didn't work for me. I'm also very hesitant to "register" for sites I'm unsure of. But, appreciate the thought! Did get a glimpse of the gal in the "little" Foto! <pant> <pant>
Please take this as simply an observation: None of us are getting YOUNGER ‘n perhaps not even RICHER. So, IF there's an opportunity to experience something you've always dreamed of . . . do it! The Raton Pass awaits . . . Perhaps you ‘n Eric can share a Lottery ticket! <grin> My idea for a shared-venture for the bar never got off the ground . . . oh well.
Many thanx for your comments ‘n ROUND!
Saturday - October 25th:
Page 54 - Rob <trollleyboy > at Midnite <1 AM EDT>: The end <or beginning> with Count Robulla at the bar means all's well <or IS it?? Bwaaaaaa hahahahah>
Figured you'd enjoy the Foto spread from above the 49th! Sometimes I'm very wary of using Pix that haven't got some sort of "source" attached to ‘em. Probably "lifted" from somewhere else. But HOW in the world is one to really know That's why I use a caveat: Foto: unknown. Perhaps not the best of defenses - but at least honest.
Hmmmmmm, I'm not in total agreement with your assessment regarding the people at the top in the police profession. I'd certainly rather think that the overwhelming majority of ‘em earned their stripes - just as I believe I earned mine. Coming up through the ranks in any endeavor requires compliance with this ‘n that. Sometimes, I think, perception is NOT reality. Who is to say whether one is "brown nosing" or simply doing that which is required Anyway, in my experiences with IACP, I never really got to know any of those Chiefs that well to assess how they got to where they arrived. I learned a long time ago to shy away from anecdotal "evidence." Just my two-cents, Mate.
Many larger cities have police commissioners - appointed from other than police sources - to oversee the Chief on down. Nothing really new, as I recall New York City has had one from as far back as my memory goes. I'd rather see professionals overseeing ANY line of work where public funds are being expended and of course where the health ‘n safety of the public is involved. They don't have to come from the same profession, necessarily - but they all should at least share a common-thread when it comes to education, decision making experiences ‘n of course leadership positions. That's how I'd set it up.
Appears as if my comments regarding the "talk" of a 2nd team in Toronto has gone ‘round quite well. But, apparently has left ME out of it. Hmmmmmm. Isn't that the way Anyway, I can recall Hamilton being in the mix over 30 years ago when it came to NHL expansion. Nothing new ‘n probably well warranted. If anything, I think the NHL would be far wiser to do away with a handful of franchises - don't move ‘em, don't expand ever again - just trim ship to a healthy state. Far too many teams in a sport that really shouldn't present watered down lines on the ice. It really wasn't that long ago <or perhaps it WAS> when every team in the NHL truly boasted having the best on skates available. Not so today. As we've ‘dumbed down' in far too many aspects of seeking excellence, pro-sports is no exception.
Bring back the Norris Division!
Appreciate the invigorating chat, visit ‘n ROUND!
Reminder: Cindy has the bar until Leon the Night Man comes in at 5 PM ‘til closing.
Figured I'd begin this Saturday AM with a spate o' RANDOM FOTOS from my personal collection . . . Acknowledgments will follow later on.

Well good evening Leon. I see that a new order of keith's has arrived so I'll a nice fresh cold one thanks.Set up a round for the boys if you can be so kind.
Tom- I see we've had an all right day today Great to see another classic passenger piece up and live in the new system. Hopefully you didn't have to format it long.Great batch of photo's as well.Liked the park car the old CP livery Great shots of the Covered hoppers as well, the one in the CN noodle livery shows the Potash/ Salt type hatches
The Chiefs do usually come up from the ranks, but normally with alot of butt kissing and the usual politics <barf> still theer are a lot of fine people in those jobs.I see that more and more ( at least in Ontario ) there is a movement for civilians to hold that postion. As with any that's sometimes good sometimes bad.
Hearing about the three alarm fish n chips that H&H whipped up for Fergie brings to mind that imortal Johnny Cash song about a certain " Ring of Fire " Passchendale is out in the theaters right now, from everything I've heard and seen it's a keeper fer sure fer sure.
Fergie-The sucking sound you hear is the truck helping itself to your life savings <uh oh>It's hard to say, theer certainlyy is the population in the GTA to support a second NHL team ( Missisauga is likey the best choice,Hamilton has an AHL team but then so does Toronto )The rivalries would be top notch, mind you I think Buffalo would suffer the most,as a lot of Southern Ontario and GTA people tend to go there for their NHL fix as opposed to going there to truly support the Sabres,if they had a closer to home team many would gravitate towards it.
Eric-Nice Amtrak shot.I can't call myself any sort of authority on steam locomotives the boosters were not that common over here either, but with the heavier trains on this side of the pond I dare say that they are / were more common here.
I've always been an F unit fan,but the Alco MLW covered wagons were always my favourites.
Shane-Imagine grain silos and elevators used for grain,a radical thought I'm guessing that the Buffalo waterfront while not as busy as say 30 yeasr ago still handle's quite a bit of the bulk trade on the lakes.Loved the PCC grafitie BTW.
Allan-Interesting website link thanks again gald that you enjoyed the photo's.
Rob
Leon, the usual round of Tui`s for all the guys` please.
Eric. Would love to have an Internet DSL line but with being in a rural area of NZ we only have the basic dial up connection. Nice pic of your X2000 train.
Rob. Thanks for the round mate. Another fine set of pix of the locos` and the lakes steamer from you collection.
Fergie. Good to see you in again. I use Peco switches on my N guage layout predominatly, their double crossover cost a mint but is so very reliable compared to other makes.
CM3. Thanks for the New Haven "Yankee Clipper" train info, good to hear you had a few rides on it. That was a really great blonde joke you shared with us.
Tom. I`ve saved the site URL`s that Eric put up for us, the photos` are really spectacular, of great interest to me were the latest pix of the Raton Pass area. A fine Passenger Train Nostalgia #25 with the classic SF Drumheads, fits in with Eric`s last URL site pix.Another fine spread of random fotos` from your great foto collection. Many thanks for your e-mail reply, it was great to see the Big Dig 2000 results. Have been searching for the Tui Gals` on the net and found this site featuring them,

Leon, it's time for a #1 Special with fries and a cold Keith's, please!
Almost missed getting here before sunset. A lot of stuff to read and look at! In other words, a pretty good Friday!
Tom – Thanks for the Photo-Bucket photos from your Dig-out adventure! The main thing is that the leak was taken care of. We don’t want to see “Our Place” get flooded and sail away! Obviously there was a lot mor digging than what I imagined. I think the $7 I won will pay for the paper napkins on the table for our first dinner in our private car! The chances to win Powerball increases slightly if you buy a ticket. Not much, but a little bit. Motorcycle accidents are always bad. I’ve seen what can happen to the rider if he/she doesn’t have all the needed protection and most of them don’t. I’ll try to have my list of forums included tomorrow. You are probably right about Pete’s Black Bag. It was not allowed to enter the Republic of Ireland. I’m glad I could stop by a second time yesterday, with only a few days left to work I don’t have to attend any meetings and don’t get much to do so I had some time off. Thanks for the New York, New Haven & Hartford information! A very classic railroad! It must have been the only railroad that did not have any trains to St. Louis!! The Yankeee Clipper had a very nice drumhead!Same goes for the Santa Fe ad! Still around as a part of BNSF! Santa Fe had quite a few nice looking drunheads! The reason I linked to those private car trip reports was the photos! You really don’t need to able to read the comments, the photos tell the story pretty well. Glad you liked them. Nice collection of Canadian equipment! Including one with snow!! The CP Waterton Park Car is very nice! Nick – Glad to hear that you have recovered almost completely from the flu! It sounds kind of scary that you are running trains without working signals!! Talking about signals, the signal in your photo, is it a plain light signal or a combination of light signal and a semaphore? The Walker railcars look like they were derived from road vehicles. Allan – Can’t you get an Internet DSL connection over your phone line? I remember when I had a dial up connection how slow it was. The M-7 locomotive is in a sad condition. I hope somenbody will take care of it soon before it turns into a pile of rust and junk. Rob – The F- and E-units are indeed very classic. That good looking design lasted for many years.A kind of look alike was the Alco FA2! Nice to see those lcocmotives shiny clean! The ship’s name is Halifax! Maybe something for Fergie.Boosters on locomotives were very rare in Europe. From the top of my head I can’t recall any locomotive equipped with abooster but I know there were some. CM3 – “Chapel Hill” is running in WV? Is there any site that has any photos of it? Would like to send a photo or link to that Swedish guy. Sorry to hea that you are having problems opening the files. At this very moment I don’t even recall what it was (must be my age). Fergie – Yes, sir, you’ll get a half prize! Free drinks the next 3 days (Sunday excluded). It is okay if you spoil us with more pictures! We will not complain! Good luck with your 1/2 ton truck! Hope the gas price doesn’t increase too much. We have an old 1989 1/2 ton truck that we use for heavier transports. No crew cab though.
Somewhere in the Cascades 1993.
Was enjoyable speaking with Fergie for a bit earlier this day . . . he's now the proud owner of a man-sized truck! Yeah - nothing less for our Skipper! <grin> <vroooooooom> <vroooooooooom> <Fill 'er up!> <groan>
Appreciate the "enabling" Post too! Sorry to have to break the news to ya - BUT Thursday's are for Fish 'n Chips! <geesh> Every AM summary <aka: Acknowledgments> has been listing that feature for YEARS! <triple geesh> However, since you are such an esteemed member of our select group of bar flies, H&H have "whipped up" a little something in the galley just for you! Boris has come running out with what appears to be flames exiting his nostril (he only has ONE - Cyclops dontchano!!> I think they call it Chili-Fish-Flambe! <yikes>
Okay - here's a little of this 'n that for this afternoon . . . .

Good Afternoon Capt Tom and Crew
Another, sweet and to the point post, well maybe... Kids are off today and want the puter... Well like I care!! Then again it's hard to type with vultures hovering overhead.
If I didn't know better I spend far too much time here and must have a "problem". Keith's please and since it's Friday i assume it's a "Fish and Chip's" kinda fare
Tom: Yes it is done as i took advantage of falling prices as dealers try to rid them selves of old 08' stock. After all these years we no longer own a van and now have something to lug my garden gear and nursery pickings with. Got me a 1/2 ton pick up Wanted something smaller but with two kids that stand over 6' 2" each to put them in something less than a crew cab would be un-humane.
Nick: Yes Pecos are definately the way to go but as to the switch machines I actually use both the peco and tortoise types. it depends what I have at the time. Hope you feel better soon.
Pete: glad you made it in... Tom wants you to turn on your cell phone Get with the program man!! Hope your having a great trip hopefully they'll let you back into the country with your black bag A couple of times I did airport security I had my camera bag swabbed down
Shane: Toronto teams are suppose to loose! It's part of their culture and heritage. And as for what Tom was saying regarding TO getting a second team I think it would be a mistake. I know Hamilton has wanted a franchise for some time and i think it would actually be of benifit if Hamilton got the team as the rivalry would be a healthy one though I don't know if it would impact on Buffalo's fan base. Rob would be more knowledgable regarding that.
Eric: Thanks for the foto's more gems. Number one was a given but 2 was a wild guess. So do I still get a half prize? C&O is one of my favourites. I would have to say they were masters of new technology within their own right as they gained through the MAC which gave us the Berkshire, Allegheny and other fine marvels. None the less Brute strength was definately one of their pillars to success!
Anyway guys I have to run! Rob and SHane I'll get back to you next post! And yes I'll provide more pics
Don't want to spoil you guys too much!

A rather gloomy morning here in mid-continent USA, but the good news is the rains have apparently come to an end - just the heavy overcast ‘n damp feeling . . . . Juneau ‘n I didn't miss a beat yesterday, as all the walks were taken. <phew> Lucky for me, eh
I see Shane has come by with a fine AM pick-us-up which of course has "enabled" me to follow thru with this offering from our sub-basement archives room!

Good Morning Barkeep and all Present; coffee, please; round for the house and $ for the jukebox. Clouds and wind this a.m. with temperatures in the low 40s and rain in the area. It is supposed to warm up Sunday and then go down into the 20s overnight next week with (this is for Juneau from the K9 Korps) snow forecasted for three days next week. He says, “Come on over and we can dig up some more of my yard.”
WV thumped Auburn last night (probably the best game the Mountaineers have played all year) so the alumni at work are well pleased. Rays beat the Phils which is o.k. because all Phils needed to do was to win one on the road. Now they go back to Philadelphia for three games which may be spread out over a few days given the weather forecasts for the area.
Eric – wish I could get the files you have been sending to open; must be something with the attachment which our multiple firewalls don’t like – we’ll keep trying. “Chapel Hill” is over here this month running on New River train. NRT is 28 cars this year. Lovely MILW F unit.
Fergie – Apologies for not acknowledging your VIA picture – the VIA scheme looks good on that engine.
Nick – Yorkshire folks are tough indeed. Have some kin in that part of the world though my mom’s people were/are mostly from Wiltshire. Hear me, oh Nick – wire signals before you cover everything up with scenery – it’s a pain in the neck but you can do your tests and troubleshooting without having to rip up everything.
Allan, good to see you with us – see below for some New Haven related material.
Rob – I think I have hockey cars somewhere with Whalers and Rockies players depicted. Know I have some Atlanta Flames for sure. Boston has not been that high flying for a long time. One of my all-time favorite graffiti was on a PCC car I saw at Park Street when the Bruins were a force, “Jesus Saves but Esposito Scores on the Rebound!”
C&Os philosophy was maximum power rather thank tinkering with technology. I will have to do some checking into boosters. Their motive power folks assigned equipment based on the terrain over which it operated. In general, the biggest stuff ran between Hinton and Clifton Forge. Mine shifters were often handled by 2-6-6-2s, etc. In short, fit the engine for the assignment.
I liked the FA in proper CN livery. The shot of the Canada Steamship Lines self-loader reminded me of something I saw in the Buffalo Whizbang awhile back in that some of the old grain elevators at Buffalo are being used (what a concept) to handle agricultural products. They have rail and water service available and have been handling loads from steamers – we must investigate when there next month.
OSP – E mail rec’d and thank you. Maybe the cell phone is submerged in the black bag. The B&M painting is loosely based on an ancient publicity picture from the B&M archives. I never saw any of them run, but recall 4-6-2 and 2-6-0s in operation quite well.
Since you had a drumhead for the “Yankee Clipper,” here’s a consist from 1950.
Train 22 “Yankee Clipper”
Parlor Cars: New York-Boston (3)
Grill Car: New York-Boston
Diner: New York-Boston (FR and SU only)
Coaches: New York-Boston
Not bad – rode this one a few times over the years.
Last – we haven’t drug out the Groan-O-Meter in awhile so here goes – this one is especially for Eric since he appreciates snow and cold so much.

Awwwwwwwright, it's Friday ‘n the END of the work week <for many>! But for those of us on the retired rolls, well . . . <grin>
Coffee's ready - pastries freshly stocked in The Mentor Village Bakery Case ‘n our <light> ‘n <traditional> breakfasts only need to be ordered from our Menu Board!

Page 54 - Eric <EricX2000> at 2:20 PM <12:20 PM Sandbox time>: To reiterate from a previous Post of mine - Well Done, Sandman for coming thru in the daylite TWICE on Thursday - not only "enabled" me for the PM, but illustrated LOUD ‘n CLEAR what it's all about to be a REGULAR at the bar!
Supplemental link to the Swedish Private Rail Car tour of America was <top drawer> as are the other URLs . . . they've been placed in a special file for posterity. Never saw anything quite like those. Many THANX!
Appreciate the visit, Pix ‘n ROUND!
Page 54 - Nick <nickinwestwales> at 5:45 PM ‘n 7:21 PM <11:45 PM ‘n 1:21 AM Friday GMT>: Many thanx for the Email response to the Foto album on the "Big Dig." Response sent . . .
Funny how there are times when cohesiveness can come in varying degrees of acceptance. Some can be cohesive as total JO/AHs whereas others can jump on board the proverbial bandwagon ‘n do their respective parts to a high degree of excellence. Perhaps those boyz in your band need some motivation - or as we used to call it, "Attitude adjustment." Hmmmm. Vito is available . . . <uh oh>
Luv that shot of the right-of-way with the Tralee bound train! <sweet> Another fine example of what appears to be well-maintained track ‘n groomed landscape.
Just a WAG <figger it out!> but I doubt Wolfman ever saw my message for him to check his <censored> cell fone! Probably can't find it . . . <uh oh> Could it have been gobbled up by the BB Gremlins <yikes> Anyway, it surely would be nice if you guys could connect . . . doesn't look promising though.
Yeah - you can't always get what you want . . . but there are sometimes one is better off NOT getting it! <grin> But that's for another time ‘n place, eh
Appreciate the good cheer - ROUND - foto - ‘n support for "Our" Place!
Page 54 - Allan <Gunneral> at 8:57 PM <2:57 PM Friday NZ DST>: Another good nite as our Resident Downunder Kiwi Connection has found his way to "Our" Place!
Tui gals are in your neck of the woods and you haven't provided us with some Fotos via a link!?!?! <geesh> C'mon, man - share the wealth! <grin>
So now you have a handle on what the "Big Dig" was all about. Hopefully that's THAT!
In spite of the loading issues at your end of the bar, at least you've been able to enjoy the material being presented. Those URLs provided by Eric were absolutely marvelous ‘n I hope everyone took a "tour" of ‘em. I've spent at least two hours going through them - twice. Then put ‘em in a file so that at a later date I can re-visit ‘em. Anyway, that's the kind of stuff this bar has been known for ‘n why so many guys feel we are unrivaled in the quality Post department. No "chest beaters" ‘n "know it alls" reside here.
Thanx for the visit, chat ‘n of course the ROUND! Bring on the Tui gals! <pant> <pant>
Page 54 - Rob <trolleyboy> at 10:34 PM ‘n 10:50 PM <11:34 PM ‘n 11:50 PM EDT>: "In" comes our Manager with a nite-time two-fer for the boyz! And a very LARGE Pix on the 2nd one.
No signs of problems with our bout of spastic rain yesterday - so far, so good. Probably will require something akin to what we had this past spring to fully relieve the mind . . .
Haven't heard of that movie - but WILL put it on my "list" ‘n should it show up on DVD, I'll purchase it. Thanx! Passiondale - an interesting title.
Glad that the "Big Dig" Foto spread came thru via Email . . .
Only reason I was eligible for IACP membership is that I was in charge of a federal LE organization <several times over> - so in the "game" of equivalencies <which I truly detest!> for the mere price of XXXX bucks, I too got to mingle . . . went to 3 of those events. Met many interesting people - and keep in mind that the Chiefs come up from the ranks <99% of the time - as did I> - so, it wasn't a "snooty" kind of thing.
Comments <spot on> regarding this month's participation by our crew - 4.0 fer sure, fer sure! While we all miss our Bar Chandler, those who have WANTED TO - have come through, which of course is what is needed.
All nice shots, with the FA leading the pack!
Appreciate the visits, chat ‘n of course the ROUND!
TODAY is Pizza ‘n Beer Nite! - and - Steak ‘n Fries Nite!
Hello again Leon back again so you might as well top up me glass Figured I would drop a couple more photo's off then call it a night.
Science and Tech museum in Ottawa's FA2
The lone MLW SD 17 now a museum piece in St Thomas Ontario.
Another random shot from the seaway
Enjoy guys
Good evening Leon , made it in befiore the bats crow or something . No Boris you can't keep them as pets,we have enough critters in this place <sheesh> Lets see Leon I think a round of Keith's is required no expected this evening.
Nick-Ahh yes I now understand what you were asking. No those cars were loads, the cylindrical hoppers come in two styles, trough hatched for grain and round hatched for the other granules that they carry, potash, fly ash and salt. All the cars come from the same pool, so one has to look at the type of roof hatches they have to know what commodity they are used for.
Interesting shot of the Irish passenger train Nice to know that you weathered the weather, hopefully you didn't remove too many layers of skin while you were sodering.
Pete-Good to hear from you , sounds like your having a grand time dispite the recent bad weather.
Shane-Yes they blue and white aer re-building,mind you all the youngings on the team seem to want to play which is a good thing,of all the games this year they were only really out of one of them, and they did knock of the high flying Bruins tonight.oddly enough with the seven points they are right in the middle of the pack.I think in the end they will be in more games then people are willing to give them credit for, anyone who has played them this year have had their hands full,a lot more speed, and a lot more sand paper in the line up.
Kind of sad seeing the AUD go,it was the best way to see Leaf games live as buying tickets in Toronto are usually a non-starter,I did manage to see them play two games in the 80's while perched up in the greys. One was an 8-0 drubbing of the Colorado Rockies ( remember them before they moved onto New Jersey ) and the other was a 3-3 tie against the Hartford Whalers.
Eric-Love the MLW F7. Mind you I'm a sucker for F units anyway, great steam shots too It's inteersting seeing the locomotives that had the boosters on them,a rarity but the heavy drag freights tended to need the extra push to keep the drivers from spinning. Shane would know better , but I believe I read that the C&O and B&O tended to have locomotives equipped with them working in the coal fields.
What can you say about that Harley rider other than someone must have been looking out for him
Tom-Nice to see more material from the basement, great info on the NH and soem great looking drumheads as well, love the Yankee Clipper.I hace to say that I've been greatly impressed by the amount of support and material the GOR has put out this month,it could have been alot lot worse.5X for the guys and another round for them all Leon.
Hopefully the trenches have held back all the rain.Speaking of trenches go see the movie Passiondale,it's a winner great story about the Canadian Corps during WW1.
Dad was never a chief of police so he never went to any of those meetings,he tended not to rub shoulders with the high and exalted.<grin>
Nice to know that the skipper's on the birthday list ( finally )Same age as my oldest sister too
Allan-It's hard to say if the software will settle down, but it's good to know that you are still with us through the adversity , an extra shot of the good stuff for our hearty and patient Kiwi Leon.
Nick. Good to see you, glad to hear you are getting over that flu bug visitation. Interesting chat about the bread ingredients, we stick to a local mixed grain bread here. One thing about Ulster bacon was that it fried really nice and did`nt spit fat all over the place like those brine pumped ones. A very apt pic of the train at Killarney to fit in with Pete`s visit there, the trackwork and yard area look really well maintained.
Rob. Hope this site settles down after all the hassles we`ve been having lately, I`m still hanging in there with the slow page loading problem, the waits worth it!
Pete. Great to see you in mate, sorry to read the weather in the Emerald Isle is`nt too good at the moment, at least you will be inside when your on those train trips. Will be great to see all of your photos` once you get back home.
CM3. Good to see you sir, looks as if your all prepared for the ice when it arrives there.
Eric. Good to see you got in OK, at the moment i`m frustrated by the page loading time here, but I`m on dial up service so will have to put up with it! Thanks for the link to the last private car trip report, great set of photos` that's for sure. Couple of fine pix with SP M-7 #1774 and the F7 diesel loco.
Tom. The Tui girls are here in Hawkes Bay at the moment for the A&P (Agricultural & Produce) Show in Hastings, they are much like your State Fairs over there. We did`nt get up to see it this year as the bride is playing in a two day Ladies Lawn Bowls tourney just now. A fine Fallen Flags #23 on the NYNH&H RR with the set of nice Drumheads. E-mail received with thanks.
