 Eveing Diners

Flo, the gang and I will have a Beer please and give Rick and Steven a RBF.

Only Good News today is my credit score jumped up a nother 9 points! Big Smile Not that my credit score is bad, I just want better.

Steven Yea I know about the Pantera's. Rich kid in High School had one, while it looked fast Whistling it was not a world beater. I got him by a 1/4 car in the quater mile with my then stock 68 383 Road Runner. Now round a turn I think it would cream me. It spent more time in the shop for repairs than in the High School Parking lot. Here is a Jay Leno video about his Pantera.

Dave. I'm sure as you know old Muscle Machines back in the day were built to the hilt. Quality was the factor, that's why a lot of them restored are still around today. Drive your more modern-day equipment the same way we used to with our old machines back then.... snap, crack, crunch, break.... well you know the rest.

Track Fiddler May be I am miss reading that comment but there quality was for Ash Pit. When I got my 68 Road Runner from Mom and Dad it had 43,000 mile on it and stored in the garage, yet there was a tennis ball rust hole in the right quater panel?

Far as the engines them self? Yes they used all the best stuff they had 50 years ago but that is old news. Newer cars engines will out last say a 1970 HP motor x 2.5 times. They will take more rev's and make more power per cubic inch that I ever dreamed of in 1980 whe I was racing.

Yes I still love the old cars, but when I am back into working on my Road Runner I want to install EFI.

Just stopping by to say hi.

Don't have a picture of it at the moment but my favorite car is one that I didn't paint myself. It's a custom painted NP Freedom Car. A fellow NP modeler from Polson did it for me on commission. (Probably the most expensive car I have.)

Also got another step further on the new layout: Got the woodchip transfer pit installed. (Aka a Walther's bulk transfer kit.) If everything goes right, I should get the lake done later. If that happens,  I should get that section moved next week.

Morning Diners   I'll just have a banana and a chocolate milk.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to be retired. Well I slept like a rock and had my coffee this morning... off to work I go.

Have a great day all.

Sleep?  As you get older it gets harder.

That's what I'm afraid of. I will not argue that statement.

The wife and I have this new interrupted sleep phase we have been experiencing for the last year. We wake up at 2-3 in the morning like clockwork. Sometimes we fall back to sleep sometimes we don't. 2-3 in the morning is a little early to start your day.Zip it!Indifferent

Hey Ken

I was a little short winded and agreeable last night in my reply as I was getting ready to go count some Z's

I will agree with you on one thing. These modern-day Muscle Machines are built so powerful they are sick.

My brother-in-law is a Master Senior Tech Ford mechanic. I seen one of these machines at his place of work in Wisconsin. It was a new Mustang Shelby Cobra.

These machines have two keys. One color for the road, one color for the track. The advanced system knows what key is being used and delegates what mode the engine operates in.

These modern-day Muscle Machines also have a price tag equivalent to a house payment.  They are so complex one look under the hood... I don't know what is what.

With that said when something goes wrong and something always goes wrong. The only choice one has with the complexity of these machines is bring it in to a Ford Tech and have it fixed. I suppose if one can afford a car like that, one can afford the upkeep.

I love a simpler time. The time one could pop the hood and know everything that's going on.  When something went wrong one knew how to fix it.Wink

My 69 Mustang had the engine rebuilt after 37 years.  Mind you when the engine was rebuilt it was still running and still going down the road. Yeah it had some blow by and was getting rather weak but it was still operational.

No one can say these modern-day muscle machine marvels last two and a half times longer than the old machines we grew up with.

I don't know much but I don't think I have another 37 years to find out if these new engines last one time as long. Everything all boils down to the test of time.

I still believe in and understand old school.... This is where I feel comfortable. This is where I will stayWink

Respectfully... Track Fiddler

Evening All! Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get a slice of apple pie a la mode with some cinnamon on the ice cream and some cinnamon milk? Thank you so much.

Hobby/New Layout Front:  Got the lake bed recovered and added something new. I was having problems getting the piling sheets to reattach after they were removed to accommodate cutting with the jigsaw. Additionally, I needed to cover the screen I used to cover some poor carpentry. (Bad cutting with the jigsaw.) What I ended up doing killed both problems. The paper mache will become a small lake with a berm delineating the edge. That berm will be covered with some talus rock that I have that matches the ballast. (Arizona Rock & Mineral NP Cascade Gray.) It will become a nice view for the passengers from the station. (The track will be moved 90 degrees from what it was originally. I am pretty sure that I will need a second Peco [edit: that's what I get for not double checcking when I post from the tablet.] three-way turnout. Of course tight dock areas sometimes need some unusual turnouts.) Where the piling wall was removed is now the base for a waterfall. Somewhere in my MR collection I have the article on making a waterfall with fishing line and chaulk.

Another positive: Pending vehicle availability, that section could come home next week.

Have an pickup I need to go do so I need to run. See you all later.

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and Rick and Steven a RBF.

Work Front. I swear I had two Muppets as customer today! They where twin brothers and the looked like the Bald Muppet that use to heckle the muppets on stange! Well the real Muppets where way more Adamaitted than these guys!

Track Fiddler, you are putting a GM Posi Traction in a Ford 9" rear end? Laugh It's not going to fit! Whistling Ok, I am kidding you, lot of people call them Posi Traction units but thats not the correct terms.

Ford is called a Detroit Locker and it is a cool name I will add.

GM used the term Pois Traction.

 Mopar was called Sure Gripp.

Sorry but I will still stand by the statment. My wifes Mercury 4.6 liter has 163,000 miles and does not burn a drop of oil? I have 2 Town Cars with over 225,000 miles and they still run well. Newer engines have better machining (ring sealing), better metal teck, better fuel delivery (keeps oil cleaner) and better oil.

Far as lifting the hood. Indifferent Well I have some idea of what I am looking at but they lost me when they stop installing Distributor's. Heck I still run dual points in my Road Runner.

Good Morning!

It´s been a hot night and I just mean the temperature (giggle). Yesterday, we reaached the all time high ever since temperatures have been recorded in our community. It did not cool down much during the night, so there ws no chance for a relaxing sleep. I got maybe two hours and finally gave at at 4am.

Ken - do you mean Statler and Waldorf?

TF - welcome to the club of folks suffering from insomnia senectutis!

The southwest of Germany saw a terrible fire yesterday, which destroyed 10 homes and injured twelve people. According to the local newspaper, the fire was started by a spark from passing train, which ignited the dry grass on the adjacent embankment. The line has been electrified since the late 1950s, so the last steam engine went by 60 years ago. The real reason was most likely a cigarette butt flipped over the railing of a footbridge which passes over the track right where the fire started.

Happy times!

Evening diners,

Waldorf and Statler hopefully won't stop by the hotel.

Well interesting things are bountiful at the hotels.

Grease trap at BW was cleaned and now the lobby smells like a dirty litter box had a grenade buried in it and detonated.

Over the weekend lightning struck outside the hotel's and now a bunch of electronics are Frizzeled, from TVs, cable boxes, computers, and modems to the elevator AND the fire alarm!

Tomorrow I'm on fire watch till the alarm is repaired.

Police got called on a teenage couple, that's all I'm saying on that.

Went to the club, discussed operations and some stuff to work on.

Well that's about all from me.

Isn't that funny  Lance now lives in Okinawa and my daughter lives in China but I am so happy she is here with me for a visit.Big Smile

Here is an aerial view of the fire.

The picture does not show the footbridge on the right, from which the fire allegedly started.

Here you can see the railing of the footbridge.

RThe following pictures shows the direction the fire traveled - from the right to the left in the above picture.

Ulrich,

My heart goes out to those people who lost their homes. Insurance can only replace so much. However, I would advocate that people should buy into a system that saves all your stuff in the 'Cloud'. I use Norton for protection and one of the services it offers is backing up everything on my computer, including my photographs and important documents. So many people have lost 'everything' in fires or other disasters in the past. That doesn't need to be the case anymore.

Afternoon Folks!

I love all the Muppet Characters! Big Smile

Ulrich, I too sure hope they catch the arsonist!!!!

Here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS this morning it was only 72°F outside but with 97% humidity.....  I got my 4 miles in over at the fieldhouse but should have gotten there an hour earlier.  The humidity and the rise in temp by noon meant I was drenched in sweat when I got done.  I did manage to do the first 7 laps in record time for me cutting 4 minutes off my previous time.  Biggest reason?  My right hip is not longer giving me trouble....  I am now definately 1lb way from my  first weight goal!  I have been at 209lbs for three days now (YES!!!!!)  Tomorrow is a class of '64 (high School) get together and I would love to be at 208lbs for it.  Heh, heh!  That is in Canandaigua, BTW.

"I spent a year in that town, one Sunday." - George Burns

We have been having a major downpour here for the last 20 minutes or so....  Ontario County (parts of it) are under a Flash Flood Warning this afternoon.

Update on the weather here:

At 133 PM EDT, heavy rain has moved out of the areas, however radar
estimates over 2 inches of rain has fallen across the warning area.
Additional flash flooding is possible from rising waters along small
creeks in the warned area.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Canandaigua, Victor, Honeoye Falls, Bristol, Lima, Bloomfield,
Farmington and Mendon.

I hope to complete the roof on the Feed Mill building I have been working on for the layout.  I will let it dry for a day or so then paint the black tar paper roof with a wash of gray to make it look right.  Then I will make some glass (using a special glue) for the windows before putting it in it's final resting place of the layout.  Photos soon.

Good Day to everyone!

I'm surprised no one has tried Flo's delicious Baked Alaska Flambe yet. I believe I'll give 'er a go, please.

Arson! Such a tragic waste. I recall reading about several irreplaceable covered bridges around the U.S. that have been destroyed by arsonists. If I'm not mistaken one several were railroad bridges. Such a shame.

Mah Na Mah Na... did you know the song was originally performed not by the Muppets, but for the soundtrack of an Italian-made softcore film about Swedish models? True story. (Clip is safe for work, though you may get some funny looks... Even so, stop it when the sauna door closes if your boss might walk by.)

Howdy ....

I just returned from Nashville where I had routine appointments with the heart surgeon to check my implanted electronic divices. In general, the electronics are doing the job of correcting rhythm as needed before it becomes anything significant. I could not be more thankful for modern medicine which is adding years to my life. Monday will be the 10th anniversary of my life-saving helicopter ride to Nashville when my heart stopped beating 6 times.

I just learned bad news about my good model train friend, Dan, who has been fighting cancer for over a year. His condition has worsened.

Now, I'll get back to model railroading. As I say, our hobby is great for many reasons. in particular it is good for sanity breaks to get my mind off of other stuff.

Happy Model Railroding  !

Did fire watch for a few hours today.

Not much train related to share.

I think this week I might be able to start collecting parts for the next KCS coal gon.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer Ed a Crown Royal and Rick and Steven what they like.

Work Front Big Smile It was sort of a good day. Jerry had a Be Back today and I split a good sale with the Dunce Lady had back problems and he showed her a hard sort of cheap mattress. Her back was all crooked looking and shoulders where way to high for a side sleeper. He did show where some higher end mattress but she still did not look straight on them. Asked to use her smart phone and took some photos of her back on the driffrent mattress she liked and he showed her. Then I took he to the Memory Foam Mattress I like and took a photo of her. She looked much straighter and she saw the proof. She bought and spent $1260.00 and she came back to buy a $600.00 set that would have not helped her.

Work Front Last Month. It was a bite of a shocker when the math was done. I had $22,000.00 in paid for sales, made $533.00 in commssion over draw and $895.00 in spiff money working part time? With my houly rate I made $2680.00 in a month working part time? Whistling

Steven Did you watch the Video I posted about Jay Lenos Pantera? I not a Pantera freak while I like there styling. I have watched it 3 times or so and enjoy it every time.

Ed Great to see you in the dinner again.

Good Morning!

The night was a little cooler than the night before, so I got a little more sleep. Still, I am far from feeling refreshed.

No news on the arson case, but news is deliberately being withheld - for reasons I cannot state here due to forum rules.

Today marks a special day for me! Exactly 3 years ago, I put down my last cigarette. I am proud to be smoke free for three years now. I don´t feel the slightest yearning for burning tobacco again in my life. I guess I am really over it!

No plans other than trying to keep a stiff uppere lip and stay Cool

Happy times!
