Diesel narrow guage, cool.   The D&S uses compressed wood blocks to keep their engines fired in the yard.  Chama uses coal and those things belch out black smoke 24 x 7

Our little community beach isn't as bad as Annapolis, but we have our share of driftwood that washed into the Chesapeake Bay from Pennsylvania and NY.

Morning diners,

On the subject of trains,

http://pagosasprings.com/durango-train-switching-to-diesel-locomotives/

The D&S will continue to use their steam locomotives once they've been converted to oil burning.

Later!

I don´t see this as good news, but it was bound to happen. The line will lose much of its character.

Happy times!

Goood morning ...

Interesting news about the Durango and Silverton RR . This has been a rough year for the railroad.

Below is the ARR RDC leaving Anchorage.  It followed the main passenger train, and would stop anywhere requested by passengers. Passengers would bring camping gear and maybe a kayak or canoe so they could spend time in the wilderness. When done, they would find their way to the track and flag down the RDC for a trip back to Anchorage. ... I don't recall how far up the line the RDC would go, but I do not think it was all of the way to Fairbanks. ... I took the picture about 25 years ago in June.

SOME CITIES have a steam locomotive trapped in a cage, on display as if it were in a Zoo...

On the Boro Hall lawn in Queens they have a different animal on display

Yes but I think they should re-paint it back to the blue and white Worlds Fair paint for the number 7 Flushing Line.

Maybe, but that is a Main-Line car and never ran in the Worlds Fair Colors.

There is one of those in the Transit Museum.

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and give Rick and Steven what they like.

Boy I am Beat! Tongue Tied Did just a tad of running today Then attacked the rearyard.

Backyard I had not cut it for a month due to the Foot Ulcer and goosh it was a mess! Even the easy part was a problem. What really Sucked Rail Spikes is both weed eaters ran out of line! Newer Black And Decker Battary Power one has auto feed which is sort of nice. Problem is with the auto feed you have no idea how much line you have used. I all so wonder if I can reload a Auto Feed Spool or have to buy a refill spool?

 Ed two qustons.

Artillary run by the forest service (I think) is common in some ski resorts.  I think one of cannons blew up a couple years ago.  I wonder if they ever look for the duds, that must happen.  Did I post a link to a youtube vid of a WW1 US rail cannon?  It was a Navy battleship barrel so that staffed it with sailors.

Rather surprised that this new company Arrowhead, would charge the same for a RTR and an undecorated kit.  I wish them luck, none the less.

The dog was sick last night.  First trip outside was to eat grass.  45 minutes later he was barfing on the rug.  Cleaned that up and another trip around the block. I was exhausted today and got nothing done.

Then I looked on Facebook and a friend was offering a cryptic apology to his friends, family and wife.  Sounds like a codpiece rebellion to me.  While he is a friend, he is a dirt ball.  As in, he might not own a tooth brush.  That would have implications about the other woman, that I don't even want to imagine.

Gooooood evening diners!

Not much going on.

Ulrich, I didn't say that D&S going diesel is good news, hopefully they will find a place for their steam equipment to continue operations.

Ken, thanks for the kind words about my music.

And I forget whether it was Track fiddler or HeartlandCB&Q, but thanks for the advice too!

I am officially broke and still don't have hours, right now I work on a kind of daily basis, put in hours as needed, they need a front desk clerk so I might try for that job, it'll be more steady than the maintenance.

I am not sure whether the PRR ever owned USRA Heavy Pacifics or Mikados, but who doesn´t know the famous K4 Pacific or the L1 Mikados?

Hello, Folks

Ken, I saw that news item earlier today. The Washington Post article called them "Professional Goats"? They are curious and resourceful animals. We have had them get loose but the worst damage they've done is eat some of the hostas.

I like these goats better...

Just like in Pamplona!

Those weed-eating rental goats are popular. They use them at some of the airports around here.

Brent, you asked about birthing problems last week. Usually things go pretty well. Sometimes we have to do the reach & grab. We've had about thirty live births here and only one or two failure to thrives.

Sometimes the timing is poor as they may give birth in late February or March. Usually during a severe cold spell. We have brought some of the kids in the house to warm up!

Herbert The Tin Man answered your question about PRR's famous Pacifics. I was just running my Broadway Limited K4 last night. It is a mighty impressive model and I had it pulling twelve heavyweight cars up 2% grades! The cars were very free rolling, I admit.

I still have chores to catch up on while there's an hour of daylight left. I hope to have time to visit later—

Cheers, Ed

Oh OK Ulrich, we're good, gosh they did look like 13 wide blue suedes though!Laugh

I actually have a pair of Russian blue/slate grey suede shoes, they're genuine leather and they're the only dress shows I could find that fit, so if I'm wearing my blue suedes it means it's a special occasion.Laugh

I think next I'm going to get the same brand wingtip shoes, perhaps all one color though.

I forgot about old Boxcar Willie back in the day... good stuff.

I found my favorite box car in Mandan North Dakota while I was there. I have four of these and always looking for more. The ones I find have the same road numbers but I keep my eyes open. They are a little different I'm not sure if the ones I bought are older or newer.

I'm sure others have a favorite boxcar as well

A blast from my past - memories of a layout I built 10 years ago, which had to be traded for food.

The day ist August 12th, 1961 - the day before the Berlin wall went up. The place is Oberrittersgrün, a small hamlet in the Saxonian mountains. The last train has just arrived at the terminus, taking commuters back from their work at the VEB Holzwurm (= larvae of the common furniture beetle) furniture factory.

The station gte is adorned by one of those typical signs displaying socialist propaganda. It translates into "Socialism in its course cannot be stopped by neither an ox or a jackass".

The local SED party leader is being picked up by his comrade Ludmilla Komsomolzkaya:

while a flatcar is being spotted to the team track

The day is closing and the two locos of the line are being prepared for next day´s service. Historical remark - the sentenced was proven to be correct on November 9th, 1989, when the people of Eastern Germany and not an ox or a jackass made the Berlin Wall tumble

Finally, an overview of the layout.

Happy times!

The Durango and silverton is NOT getting rid of coal fired steam locos. The diesels and the oil burner are backup in case there are red flag conditions in the saun Juan mountains

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang a Beer and leave Ed and I a bottle of Crown Royal! Let Rick and Steven have what they want as long as it is not over $1.00.

Kind Of Po'ed at the world right now.

Work Front My hours have been cut! I have been working 31 hours 4 days a week and was just able to get by with my SS Check. I now only work 3 days a week for 27 hours. While I have only lost $36.00 dollars a week (Saturday and Sunday are short days) it going to hurt. Bang Head Yes last month my sales sucked rail spikes so I don't blame trying something driffrent on the weekends. With me not wanting spiffs and commusion (Due to taking SS at age 62) they figuer I don't care if I make a sale. Well they are wrong, but I understand there thinking.

Well the bright side is I will have 4 days off in a row. Maybe I can make a trip to Indy and drop the wife off at a friends house and go to Ed's Goat Land Railroad! Big Smile

Ulrich and Ed Thank you on the answer about the Heavy Pacific. But with the cut in hours, that has turned into a pipe dream. There is a under letter Heavy Pacific on BLI Refbur-outlet that I all most talked my self into.

Trains are running well, so later. Ken

Ken sorry they cut back your hours.  With the stories you tell I wonder why they bother to open on Sundays.

Ulrich nice detail

Durango, when I was there a local wrote to the newspaper complaining that steam engines should not put out black smoke if the run on steam.  Could have been the same person who thought the state ought to move the Deer Crossing signs to a safer place.

Plumbing dilemma.  I have a basement toilet that empties into a holding tank with a sewage pump.  For 15 years it has worked fine, lately it flushes so there is almost no water in the bowl.  The float is where it supposed to be and we have great water pressure.  It's almost as if the pump is sucking the bowl dry.  Anyone have any ideas?

Henry .... Yeah. My idea is to call a plumber..... Actually, we have a similar set up for  bathroom drains in the lower level of the house. I did have a plumber fix the sewer pump a few years ago, and it has worked fine ever since. .... The woman calling about deer crossing signs is hilarious.

Speaking of deer..... We had some in front of the house yesterday.

Good afternoon Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

Garry:  nice shot of the deer in your yard.  Pleasant scene.

Steven:  it's been a long long time since I was in the music industry, so I won't give any advice other than one thing.  If you have original songs that you've written and you want to keep them yours, get them copyrighted BEFORE you put them out on the net!  That said, if things go really well and you're on your way you will most likely have to "sell" surrender is more the word, the copyrights to your publisher.  (To get a label deal, you probably won't get to keep the publishing initially.). But, if you don't, anyone can take your song, copyright it and claim it's theirs and you will have little legal recourse. Not fair?  Welcome to the music industry.

i truly hope your Idol audition goes very well, and your dreams come true.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)

BigDaddy
For 15 years it has worked fine, lately it flushes so there is almost no water in the bowl.

My first thought was to check the venting of the waste pipe. Did a bird or animal get into the vent pipe and block it somehow?

Then it occurred to me that perhaps the ballcock "bowl fill tube" may be broken, dislodged or plugged. That's the small tube that allows water to bypass the flapper valve and it refills the bowl after a flush.

Just two thoughts on the subject.

Good Luck, Ed

Kevin nice boxcar. I like the striped ones too. Here is my favorite striped one on the bottom. The two on the top are a twin set I just got delivered from eBay... I don't know, these could be my favorite ones now.

My daughter came home from China for a month. She came over for a visit with my other daughter for the weekend.

We went to the Uptown Art Show yesterday and came home with steel models you assemble yourself.

My one daughter's favorite insect is a praying mantis, my other daughter's favorite insect is a dragonfly.

I helped them build their bugs.
