... and none taken!

Foreign names are always a challenge when it comes to correct spelling and pronunciation. I remember my marine biology teacher in high school talking about the Strait of Wanda Fooka and I was wondering who that Chinese girl was. How could I know she meant the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the waterway that separates Vancouver Island and Washington State!

Happy times!

Alaska sounds way too cold for me. So does Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Finland, Colorado, and so on. .

Southern Germany will be hitting 105F again - too cold?

If given a choice I prefer 55 to 65F perfect.

The hot and humid stuff I can't tolerate. My surgical knee swells up like a balloon and my brain starts to pound. I would take Sub-Zero if given a choice between the two.

You can always put more on but you can only take so much off.........early day off today this is nice!Big Smile

PS: track fiddler, the July one is locked and anyone can open the diner, and I have done this before.

Misunderstood is usually never good...  Sometimes things don't come out exactly right.

Stephen or anyone else for that matter,  don't ever take offense to me.

I am a high-strung person....Could be the Scottish....could be the Irish. Probably both. What's even funnier I have an Italian name because my grandfather was adopted by an Italian family. That was on my father's side, the Irish.

On my mother's side, my grandfather was Scotch Canadian, and yes wore a plaid tam, his family plaid.  He only moved to the States as opportunity opened.

He started an oil business in International Falls delivering oil to homes as that's how they were heated back in the day, yep everyone knows that.  I remember I always loved to ride in this big red tanker truck when I was little. I felt like a King riding up high like that.

My grandfather was my favorite person in the whole world. I know a lot of the reason for this....My grandfather always said it like it was. He was liked by everyone.

For the most part he was happy-go-lucky but frequently he would snap into expression if he felt strongly about something, which was a lot of the time.  He would have a cross angry expression in his eyes and a gleaming smile on his face at the same time he stated something. It just fit him. I remember he always made me laugh.  I laughed even harder when he said "Do you get me sweetheart"?

That's the difference between words and facial expression at the same time. With text only, all you get is half the story.

I need to work on this.  I am high strung and snap just like my grandfather and I got to admit I'm proud of it. I make my wife laugh. And then I laugh.

I do have to remember though.  I'm only telling half a story when it's only text.... I will work on thisWink

Evening diners

TF, I get it I'm part Irish and part Hungarian, and then the remainder being a mix of Western European and British Isles/UK.

Tempers flare, its cool, being able to admit you overreacted is the import thing, thanks, and we're good.

Well life isn't interesting enough so I got a nice dose of it today. Ran a bunch of errands, then had to print out two dozen pages or more of paperwork for American Idol, the trucks battery went kaput on me leaving stranded at Winn Dixie for a half hour. And now to be the icing and cherry on top I just learned my aunt is being sent by my grandmother to Delaware to get my other aunt and her children (the same ones that visited us last week) to move down here to Cajunland!!!!!! Those exclamation points are not of happiness but frustration, they do this every other year or so, it gets annoying. So now life will be a little less boring and monotonous.

Busy 1st day in the forum although I am not sure where we are.

I found a youtube channel from some guy who calls himself the history guy.  There are only a couple rail histories, the Black Tom explosion (WW1 damaged the Statue of Liberty) a circus train wreck and this;

.

Steven, I don't know how much you know about American Idol.

.

Do you know who Ricky Manning is?

.

Ricky grew up down here in Cape Coral, Florida. He has been a contestant on both The Voice and American Idol. He made it to the California shows on AI and the round before the quarter final on TV.

.

I first became aware of Ricky when he perfomed at my youngest daughter's 8th grade talent show at Trafalgar Middle School. Even as a young teen that kid was unbelievable and amazing. He blew everyone in that auditorium completely out of their chairs, when he was in 8th grade!

.

Ricky crafted his art for the next few years with professional coaching and musical training.

.

When he played the lead in North Fort Myers High School's production of Crazy For You he tapdanced and sang his way to repetitve standing ovations. The NFMHS drama program won the State competition that year.

.

Then he went on to New York City and became quite a hit in Manhattan's live performance lounge scene. Both AI and TV bio'd him as being from New York City, but I know where he is really from.

.

Anyway, these shows are not the fun loving amusing circuses they present themselves to be. That is the image they have for entertainment value. They are very serious competitions and only the very best can make it through. Sometimes the competitors are portrayed as just normal old everyday folk, but in fact these are very serious musicians nearly all the time.

.

Even someone that just oozed talent like Ricky did not make it all that far.

.

I hope you have prepared yourself accordingly, and have some serious experience to give you the needed confidence.

Good sunny afternoon from the West Coast. Mid 20s today instead of the 30s and we all feel better for it.

Steven, hearing about all the breakdowns of your landscaping equipment and vehicles leaves me bewildered. I go insane if things don't run perfectly all the time. It probably comes from working in a line of work where poor maintenance can cause huge losses and thus everything was serviced constantly and kept in prime condition and replaced at regular intervals.

I hope all goes well for your American Idol audition. If nothing else it will be an adventure, and you never know.

Two years ago I signed my kids up to be movie stars as they were being deadbeats. I told them to get a job or volunteer or I am signing you both up to be movie stars. Three days later they were still deadbeats so I signed them up. Three days after that the phone rang and the rest is history.

The kid is working on a TV show this week called "Loudermilk" I have never heard of it, but they are paying him $500.00 for an eight hour day and $170.00 an hour after eight hours. If he did the work full time it would pay him at least $150,000.00 a year. As it is, he only works when he is not at University. He is glad I didn't let him lay around the final month of summer vacation two years ago.Laugh They are not lazy kids at all, the Summer I signed them up they had spent the first six weeks of their vacation volunteering, I wasn't giving them the chance to be deadbeats.MischiefLaugh

He got five of his friends working on this show for two or three days and they are having a blast.

It's off to Vancouver Island tomorrow to look for a new place to live. We are aiming to move next Summer after my Daughter graduates high school. At this point in time, she is likely going to medical school in Edinburgh, Scotland. So coming home will just mean an extra 15-minute flight to Vancouver Island. We should do well on the move as we can get what we have here for a third of the price over there.

Well, need to go ride the Deere before dinner and do some other things before we leave. My chainsaw and brand new Stihl weed eater along with the gas can have been sitting out on my front lawn all week. I won't press my luck and leave it there while we are away. There may be a Pirate come by.Laugh

Drinks and fresh Salmon steaks on me tonight. Of course, all you Easterners are in bed already, so it won't cost me much. Living out West is really a wonderful thing.Laugh

All the best to all.

I am mostly going on the show to get out there, but don't be mistaken I am very serious about my music.

I have contacted a attorney to proof read the release/contract.

I also fully understand that perhaps my style isn't for Idol, but that still won't stop me from pursuing a music career if I want to.

And I have been taking voice lessons for the past two years, and will continue even after idol.

What? Why?

.

That document is completely non-negotiable.

.

Do you have another offer on the table? Do you think you are good enough to write your own ticket? What is you attourney comparing it to? Are you afraid they are going to demand a kidney?

To determine the extent that the show has control over my music and person.

I just read up on the idol audition process and I've decided to shoot some emails to some record labels instead of going to AI, it seems quite haphazard the process of auditioning.

OK I'm going to the local record shops to see about advertising for some people to collaborate with, I've finally decided to get serious and put some full time work into my music, instead of waiting for the magic ticket that never comes.

Steven, bwst of luck with AI. I'm a non serious musician myself, so I've had the idea of trying out for The Voice, if they ever did auditions in Pittsburgh. I play guitar, sing, and harmonica-almost like Bob Dylan in the 1960s. i used to play a lot of open Mics in my area, until ascap and bmi shut the. down. Basically...the music industry wants you to become what THEY want, not your creative mind.

Steven, most up and comers have to self-publish these days. So get your stuff on You-Tube and then I-Tunes (or the like). A record label won't even look at you until you are getting some online recognition. There are Websites where you can show yourself off to your peers and get plenty of critical recommendation (which is a good thing) Also if you don't have a video to go along with whatever you are doing, you have less than half of what you need. Everything has visual art as part of it these days.

The kid just messaged us that he won't wrap before 0600hrs tomorrow.

Is my wittle boy wery tiwered is what I will say to him when he comes home in the morning. He will slug me and tell me he just made enough to pay three months rent on his house in Ottawa. He will go to bed for six hours and get up and do it all over again. OH! To be young again.Laugh

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true
Someday, I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dare to
Oh why, oh why can't I?
Well, I see trees of green and red roses too
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Well, I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
And also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands saying
How do you do?
They're really saying I, I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow
They'll learn much more then we'll know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
World
Someday I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Oh, somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to
Why oh, why can't I?
Ooh, ooh

I prefer the Maddie Poppe version of Rainbow Connection.

I can do a cover of Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World if you guys would like.

I'll be doing karaoke covers of some of the songs I can sing to showcase my talent.

I have a friend I visit.

The watch football garage I call it.

Football garage is always heated in the winter time which is nice in Minnesota.

There are seven guitars in the garage. He plays all seven of these guitars beautifully..... when a good song plays on the radio before the football game.  My friend picks one of the guitars and plays along verbatim.... but that's just my buddy Erv   he thinks nothing of it.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom, for me and for you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

[Verse 2]
I see skies of blue, clouds of white
Bright blessed days, dark sacred nights
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

[Bridge]
The colors of a rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands, saying how do you do
They're really saying, I love you

Steven,

.

Why do you keep posting a mash-up of Somwhere Over the Rainbow and What A Wonderful World? It is OK if you do not know the words. I do not think that was even the point.

.

Joey Ramone recorded my favorite version of What a Wonderful World just before he died. You should check that out.
