I hope they know some good Plumbers with all those water lines 10” or less below the ground and no insulation under their trailers. Smile, Wink & Grin Those heat pumps won't cut it either!!! Surprise
Saw the same kind of thing once in south Texas, San Antonio. Heck, they did not even have heaters in the train station there.
It will be bad. Tongue Tied

Yes Chuck, I am loving the snow.  It appears to be coming to an end now.  I just finished shoveling the driveway and sidewalks, which is always fun to me.

I hope our Southern friends fare well.

And the bitter cold continues! Snowing pretty good here - supposed to end up with 4-6 of the lovely white stuff. It is so cold the snow thrower should toss just about to Jack's place. If you haven't seen his FB updates you can hardly see their house from the street now. Snow piled so high that it is about to the top of their garage doors, and with what they are slated to get the rest of this week... he may be able to use his second floor windows as doors.

I have not seen that much snow since the late 1970s (when we were on the verge of the next ice age)...

CNW1995 - My wife and I also watched the Grand Budapest Hotel the other night.  You are right - it is a good movie.

My wife's dad fell  on the stairs last Saturday.  A neck injury has him in the hospital.  Today's news was about MRI's and neuro surgeons.  We'll have to stay loose with our plans for the next couple of weeks - about the only constant to work around is my wife's next back treatment.

14 degrees here today and about 4" of nice fluffy snow.  This is the first real snow we have had this winter.  It was kind of fun watching all of the guys from South America arrive at work today and comment about driving in it - for many of them, this was the first time they have driven in snow.  Got my workout with the snow shovel tonight instead of the eliptical.

I pulled the trigger on a MPC era #3 General.  Appeared to have low hours, had the look I wanted, and the price was OK.  It should arrive later this week - then I'll know for sure.

All for now.

Not quite.  Maybe 0.  Actually TV is saying that is a little on the low side.  What's the difference in 0 and 5.  They are both cold.  High Friday 11.

We had snohio earlier.  Mainly sleet with some freezing rain.  Thank God for natural gas heat.

Sleep tight.

Good morning all,

A fresh coat of white again this morning about 3", just enough to cover up the dirty stuff.  They are predicting a warmer trend today, may go up to 26, Wow!  Then back to the high in the teens.  I've got a friend that keeps emailing me pictures of trains in the snow, told him enough already, think he took me seriously as I haven't gotten any for a few days.  We've been going through bird seed like crazy,  hope they appreciate it.  Even had some crows drop by the bird feeders.

Not much train activity, got an Atlas 0-6-0 switcher with TMCC that is giving me fits.  Sometimes it works just fine, next time it just sits there and blows the whistle louder as you advance the throttle.  A reset will correct it but next time it will act up again. Beautiful little loco, but I'm about to retire it to the display shelf.

Stay warm out there.

I feel there is something wrong with this picture Fife? Confused

Light snow and 19 degrees. Going down from here. The deer have been like airliners circling in holding patterns coming to the airport last few days. They are coming from all directions to the feed pan. Had to give them 4 coffee cans of food yesterday. We counted 15 different deer at the pan. They come in groups from 3 to 7 at a time.  I need to get more corn.  One gal has no fear of me at all and just stands there by the pan till  I put corn in it. Between the corn and the bird seed like Jeff is going through I am going broke.

8N, Sorry to hear about your wife's dad. Bad stuff. Does that MPC era #3 General have a Pulmore or a can motor?

Just yesterday Jim the neighbor next door called and told me his brother Jerry's wife fell down the stairs Valentine's night and broke her neck. Killed her.  Jerry is taking it hard.  What can you say??  Sad

We did not know her too well but had attended some cookouts and stuff with them. She was 61.

Stay warm and stay safe!

Aloha. 'Lake-effect' snow in the Loop today. Looks like cold may set a record this week. Of course, we've had sub-zero temps in March so go figure. Hope your FiL is OK, 8n.

Morning gang!

JEFelec - Have to agree somewhat with Buckeye, those are not page numbers, it is the temperature at the Kalmbach offices.

Well Buckeye - did'ja see the FAA drone news? No more hangin' over bridges for you. You will sit at the office looking at bridges on your PC. Now you can say any flies over your layout are bridge inspection drones!

Chuck - the ol' snow cannon didn't have the power to get down here.

Sunny. Headed to 50 today. 70 by Sat. Back to 40's Sun.

Regards, Roy

Like all the other rules/laws they are only for the honest people, they'll still have problems with drone / plane encounters. Not nearly enough FAA people to enforce the rules.

Roy...... Traffic engineers are using drones above intersections and interchanges to see how the traffic really flows instead of a computer model.  Yes, the drones are being using to look at really big bridges.  I'm thinking of getting one so that I can look into Doug Murphy's window at his work.  (Several of you will understand that inside joke, no pun intended. Good evening all,

Surrounded by idiots and encapsulated by the clueless is a polite way of describing the chaos that was endured today.   Details would take 10 pages to list all the insanity that is my world.   Only piece of good news is that I found out I did do 8 miles Sunday in around 2 hours so the pace for the Mini is going well.  Just need to add an another hour and a quarter and I am good to go.   Watched the Flash tonight.  It was good, but somewhat bittersweet.   At least the baddy got a bit of what he deserved.   Tomorrow is another day in the coal mine.   I  hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello,

It was cold again and we even had a few flurries this afteroon, but unfortunately they did not amount to anything.  I am not working this week so I am having fun with the family; the kids are also on Winter Break this week.  I picked up some grass mat material for the layout.  I purchased it at Hobby Lobby and with the coupon it is a great price.  It's about time for bed now.

Good night,

Joe

Cloudy and in the low 20's today.  Supposed to go near zero tonight.

KRM - That was a good question, I needed to look it up.  Turns out that this General is powered by a Pulmore motor.  Looks like it was one of the last ones before they switched to the can motor.

All for now.

RT - the BMWs were the first non-American cars I have owned. I needed something larger, with towing capacity (don't have a truck so I need to tow in order to haul something), and quite honestly the foreign options didn't hold the muster. I could have gone Toyota - but you want to talk about the most self-asorbed group of people! We have been to 3 dealerships and have had what we felt were decent offers in hand (did tons of research) and all there basically said "What is on the sticker is what we are getting", never going to a Toyota dealer again. Susan's Mazda CX-9 was nearly identical in specs to the Toyota Highlander and she drove her's off the lot for more than $10,000 less! The Durango is larger than the Highlander/Pilot/CX-9/BMW X5/Lexus/Acura MDX/GMC Acadia/Grand Cherokee but not as large as the Yukon or Tahoe... so it was perfect for my needs. All that and it has more options on it than I really needed, and the dealer gave me an excellent deal and I got 0% financing. Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up

Still want a RAM 1500 or a Silverado, but that is a few years down the road.

Aloha. Wow, it is cold outside - close to the day's high of 5... Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 3. It's heading in the wrong direction.

Buckeye, there is an very unofficial student group that races drones around the buildings in the Loop... I don't know how they do it with the blocked LOS.

Brent sorry seems I only remember the BMW did you have more than one in a row maybe that would be why any way I made the mistake once I had the extended cab Silverado and got rid of it got a Cadillac srx and hated it so after a year went and got another Silverado ( all of these where used ( I don't buy new but that's another story and personal preference )

Morning all not much going on here today.Have a little running around later but thats about it.

Buckeye - bridge post looking good! Do I detect from the early underside layout shots that you were going to use straight girders?

Roy....I marked out the chords to see how much over hang would be needed if the girders curved or straight were above the deck based upon a 72' passenger car.  When you put the girders below the deck, the clearance requirements for the passenger cars vanishes. The deck could have been placed about 1/4" below the top of the girder and clearance would not have been a problem either.  When your friends in Dallas need some help on building bridges, you have my number. Morning, 10:00am,
Like Doug said,,,, COLD!!!!!!  2 above out there with sun and wind. Going down from here!!  Surprise
Been to the DMV got Sandra's car license sticker, new antique plates for the old Triumph, renewed my drivers license for 5 more years, went to Farm & Fleet for feed, drill bits, other supplies and a small space heater to see if I can get the condensate line in the shed to work. Then got all my hairs cut.

RT I like to get them used to. Got the Silverado 11 months old with 11K on it and saved $14K from a new one. I have bought one car and three trucks new in my life. The last one was the 2001 Dakota. It is nice to get them new but if they are less than a year old then so what? Save the $$$$$  Smile, Wink & Grin

Buckeye, I am going to order up the girder section and try my luck. I think it will be good.
