Willy - At least you got to see the 844 - and at speed.  Picture or no, that has to be a grand sight.

Whilst winding along Webbs railroad for our twice daily trips, it's amazing to think that trains once ran along that line at 60 per...   There's not a lot of tangent....

The 844 was right on schedule today, unlike on Sunday. Due to the fact that it was moving at 60 mph, we only got one picture and that picture didn't turn out too hot, so I don't think I'll post it. I was also expecting to see the three heritage units that left Chicago yesterday evening. However, for some reason, between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM they only made it from Chicago to eastern Iowa, so seeing them was out of the question.

It's hot here today as well. There is a small chance of rain, but I believe that any storms will be few and far between. However, there is some nice cool air coming for the next couple of days. I'll take what I can get with this weather.

Well it's f*bomb warm here.  Someone stop shoveling coal into the furnace as it's plenty warm today!  I'll take a gallon of Gatorade and a spot in the shade hopefully where it's quiet.  Maybe a nap'll help the time go faster.Sleepy [|)]

Finally made it back home from Produce!  We had 76 people today, and ran out of broccoli and cauliflower; also had cherries, green onions, 1 case of the peeled and cut onions (which I managed to get a bag), little traungular cartons of sour cream, yellow summer squash, limes and cherries.  Even had an argument between two "ladies".  One had it in her head that the other one was putting food back for herself, as she was packing up one of everything in bags to be handed out, when I start to call the numbers.   That's life in the Big City, I guess.

On the warmer bar for lunch today:  tuna salad sandwiches, BLTs, fries, chips, burgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, cole slaw and garden salads.

Desserts today:  cherry and strawberry cheesecakes, chocolate cake, chocolate pie, and pecan pie, and ice cream.

WE ALSO HAVE PLENTY OF ICE WATER, ICED TEA, LEMONADE, GATORADE, SO EVERYONE CAN STAY HYDRATED!!

Never thought I'd say it, but I do miss the old 1971 American LaFrance that was the first engine I drove. Cranky old beast, but it would put out the H2O.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  Mookie and Zardoz, it's quite muggy and sticky here this morning, also.

Dan, thanks for getting the coffee pot ready for this morning.  It's now brewing (actually, just finishing brewing), and freshly made ojs and hot tea, lemonade and iced tea are ready to go.

On the warmer bar:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs w/cheese, pancakes, and fresh bagels, along with cantaloupe and watermelon chunks, and fresh strawberries in the cooler.

Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see you all when I get through with Produce Tuesday.

I'm with Zardoz - it was 5:30 when I arrived and not very pretty.  Plus it was still a little on the dark side.

But remember - we don't have to shovel it!!!!!  And you won't slip and fall on it!

It's 6am, it's muggy, it's foggy, it's just plain yucky out.  I'm going back to bed.  Or to work.

Time for breakfast.

I better check the AC and make sure the coolers are fully stocked for tomorrow.  Looks to be hot for a lot of folks.  I'll make sure that everything is ready to go for tomorrow.  Just refilled the coffee maker so all it has to do is get switched on.  All the mugs are clean and ready, the hammock is clean, chair's are vacuumed out, and the morning paper is ready!  See everybody in later today!

Mudchicken, if your little guys can run fast, they might have gotten the "Vermin",

But these guys were moving on out of the house and yard very quickly after they saw that someone was home.

And sawing off ankles was not exactly what I had in mind,  sawing off other body parts might take care of the problem better.

Yeah, I don't imagine we'll get much sleep at tonight.  Needless to say, all of us will NOT be gone at the same time, for awhile.

Dan, thanks for taking care of supper tonight.  The Mexican Fiesta sure looks and sounds good, but right now, Walt and I don't have much, if any, of an appetite.

CW -

Was away and missed word of your unwelcome visitors. Unfortunately, teens with time on their hands are often the most likely to burglarize homes and businesses for kicks and profit. In my days as an officer of the law and later an ADA I have seen many. There is nothing that feels worse than being a victim of a crime. Based upon my own experience as a victim of a strong arm robbery in my teens (what they thought to get from me I still don't know) I strongly empathize with you. I hope you are feeling better.

I have yet to have anyone try to break into my house, regardless of whether I am home or not home. And if my house is ever broken into while I am gone, I am in the very least going to feel that my privacy has been violated. I have a great deal of sympathy for both Walt & Paula, and I know that if it were my home, I would not sleep very well tonight. I think I will offer up a prayer for Walt, Paula and Sarah tonight before I hit the sack.

I know that in a situation like this, I can't take the law into my own hands and let thugs answer to "Harry Calahan" and his Smith & Wesson .44 magnum, but that is exactly what I would be inclined to want to do.

Thanks all for the words of encouragement, it's not often you meet a "would be burglar" semi "face to face". (As was said, I hope I scared them more than they did me!) (no hammer, Louisville Slugger close at hand, but did have a 12 gauge shotgun reasonably close--they ran too fast!!)

Jay and Chris, you're very correct about it hitting you in the gut and being very unnerving; and I don't get scared very easily. (this came very close)

Mook, we can't get "under" our bed, it's on a pedestal, besides, who wants to get under a bed with a cat (especially after they've been in water!)

(Sweetie would "run and hide" somewhere else anyway!)

Dan, thanks for volunteering for standing guard, that is very much appreciated.

And A very hearty congrats on your grades.

Just got back from the store:  went and bought some duct tape, so we can put something up over the opening. We had the kitchen light on, which you can see from the back door.  Maybe we'll have to start leashing the dog to the back door at night for awhile.

Mookie, yes, the officer said they'd have someone keep patroling the area for awhile.  She also said that a detective will call us in a day or two.  And strawberry shortcake and watermelon sound really good right now (that is, if I can feel like I can eat something).  Something like this does have a tendency to take your appetite from you.

Dan, we'll get back to you, on sitting by the back door with a hammer.  Maybe you might want to get a sledge hammer!!

Great idea for lunch-it's pretty warm and those foods are great on warm days.  I'll grab some and sit in the shade (Larry-lean a bit to the left-Thanks!) for a while.

Dan:  two pedal, two rest....

CW/Mutt - you need to talk to Sweetie - I know she could be really ferocious if she could just get up the nerve.  So if anyone ever tries to crawl under your bed, they will find a wildcat.

Will the police patrol your area for a few days just in case?

I think strawberry shortcake and watermelon for lunch ought to just about do it!  Chef [C=:-)]  Well, you weren't expecting me to cook, were you?  I will mash the strawberries - that's about it - (yum!)

Hi CW,

Sorry to hear about your unnerving experience. I had that happen a couple of times when I lived in IL. Thankfully no one was ever hurt, and we only lost a VCR to it. Still, it is really scary, and it's hard to sleep for awhile after that.

Be sure to grab some warm milk before you turn out the lights on the DD&CS tonight. Hope you and Walt do OK tonight.

CW I'll stand guard by your back door for a while with my hammer if you want me to, just say the word.

I was at a country music festival this weekend...wow.  Easiest way to describe it! Saw some things I didn't want to see and some I shouldn't be allowed to see!  Good music, food, and fun too.  Willy thanks for the good weather, it was nice!

Mook does the car have two pedals or 4 for all the paws?
