That is a cute story.  I was thinking of steak and baked potatoes on the grill tonite so they'll be ready in about half an hour.  I had some steak leftover from the weekend and about 15 pounds of 'taters.  For toppings there'll be sour cream, butter, cheese, and bacon bits.  I think there's some greens left over from the salads the other day so we'll put those out too.  Enjoy!  Chef [C=:-)]

We had a chance at rain this morning but it didn't materialize.  It's about 83 degrees, sunny, and not muggy!

What do people want for dinner today?

Hot, Humid, and WINDY.  I can see the tops of the thunderheads that are nailing the folks just to the south of us, and we are just outside the SVR TSTRM watch areas.  It's 89 right now at the Watertown airport....

Might make a hot weekend on the railroad, but there is rain in the forecast for Sunday...

Thanks for the great weather Willy. Last week we had lots of rain. Now we have heat and humidity and the corn here in Mercer County must be 6 feet tall. Could be a bumper crop. With temps moderating a little, Barbara and   I are cruising up the Miss Sipp to Dubuque tomorrow, returning Friday night. I just LOVE retirement. Maybe I can get a nice pic of the UP bridge at Clinton IA.

Afternoon all.  It's much less muggy here so thanks for that Willy.  The sunshine is nice today, too!

How come it's been pretty quiet in here lately?  Did I miss a memo or something?  Oh wait...summertime = people being outdoors.  DOH!

Duff & Sadie - Good to see you in here. Stop by more often if you get the time!

Willy - If you get a chance in the August time frame, take a trip out this way. The monsoon machine should be in high gear, and we'll get rains in the 2-3"/Hour bracket. Kind of impressive to see, but a real pain to drive in!

Duff - Adorable picture of Sadie!

The weather did it again. A cold front moved through last night with a dry frontal passage. Now this morning and afternoon, thunderstorms have sparked along it just south of us. In fact, one spot reported 4.80 inches of rain in 90 minutes. Now I know that's not good, but I think it would be exciting to experience something like that. Meanwhile, here in Omaha, we're high and dry and will stay that way for at least a week. Angry [:(!]

Chris - I'll see what I can do about keeping the heat out of the Denver area, but it is summer, you know.

Hmm. Pork chop abracadabara. Had to go to three recipe sites  to find that one. It looks like several options when preparing that.
Everything looks good to me today.

However there are a lot of trains to watch going through Grand Island.

OB - we had heard they were going to rebuild that platform, but haven't heard anything lately.  I am glad to hear they are moving forward, since the old one was almost unusable.

Appreciate the update!

Pitch the bar of soap my way down at the stockyards if it actually does rain today. Yesterday was much more bearable, but it's way to dry around here. (Dustbowl in the old UP yard area)

Morning All,

Willy, can you do me a favor and keep the weather we had here yesterday until October or so? You can start dropping the temps and add some snow at that point. I really don't think I'm ready to head back to near triple digit territory by the weekend.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Hope everyone had a good evening, and are looking forward to a good day today.

Coffee has just finished brewing, ojs freshly made, and there's hot water for tea.  I somehow don't think anyone will be wanting hot cocoa or hot chocolate this morning.  Also made fresh lemonade, and replenished our stocks of Gatorade for today.

On the warmer/breakfast bar, you'll find:  turkey bacon, sausage, waffles, pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage gravy, and on the cool end, you'll find cantaloupe, mushmelon,  & watermelon chunks.  Also the pre-requisite bear claws for Mookster and Tree.

Today's lunch and supper menus are going in the Crock Pots:  pork chop abracadbra, and roast, taters  and carrots are in the four Crock Pots.

Everyone have a good day, and take care.

CW I got started making it but got distracted.  Thanks for finishing it for me!  I'll grab a couple of BLT's and some of that great salad then join you under the awning.  Maybe we can catch a breeze tonight.

Dan and everyone, I went ahead and fixed the BLTs and grilled chicken pasta salad for tonight's supper.  Everything is on the breakfast bar, which has been loaded down with ice, to keep everything nice an cool.

Desserts are in the cooler, and everyone have a cool, pleasant evening.  I'm headed to the patio, under the awning.

Dan, have your started supper, or shall I?  That is basically the same menu I was planning for tonight.

Your suggestion regarding the fans is the exact thing that we do.  And with the humidity up like it is, that isn't quite working right now.  Next week, when we have our next "cool down" will be when that cooling method actually works again.

And we'll have to check into that  AAA battery LED sensor.

I'm thinking we could do some BLT's and maybe grilled chicken salad/pasta salad for dinner.  How does that sound?

CW I found something interesting today.  It's a small led powered by a AAA battery that merely glows red.  It's on a photo sensor so it goes on automatically during low light.  What use is that, you ask?  Easy.  It's a dummy security sensor near doors/windows.  It was at Wal-mart and came in a 3 pack for $9.94.  It may make the casual thief pause or think twice.

On another note, is the suggestion I emailed you regarding the fans and cooling working?

Again, that would be cool to see 844 at speed!  I wonder why those ACe's didn't get that far.  Must be because Iowa is nice to stop in and rest a spell!  Can any of our residen Iowans (is that the word?) confirm or dispel that?

I tried to get some shots of some CN -9w's this morning passing thru the 1899 bridge in town here but I sneezed as I clicked the button!  Somehow I don't think I can salvage the shot!
