.....All ok, so Kingman still does have an airport....All right.
Item: Always liked the view from out there {east}, at night, on the Sante Fe...{now BNSF}, as one could see signal {block}, lights for about 17 miles or so....

Just the usual cameraderie and delicious virtual food.
I probably shouldn't complain about having to work the trains in the rain today... Good thing I carry a rainsuit with my grip...
Taking a day off from the railroad Saturday to get some stuff done around the house.
Did I see perch on the menu? I'll grab some in a take out tray...

I've got the next round of our FRIDAY NIGHT FISH FRY ready and on the warmer bar. The menu includes the following fish: catfish, cod, halibut, flounder, perch and rainbow trout. For side dishes: corn on the cob, fries, cole slaw, and the usual pies.
Beverages: iced tea (sweet and unsweetened), lemonade, Gatorade, fruit punch, and we've got plenty of soft drinks, for whomever prefers that to the other beverages listed.
You all enjoy your supper, and Joe and Lance, your containers are ready for you to take to work tonight.

First and foremost, to Driver!!
Our FRIDAY FISH FRY is now under way. On the menu today: cod, snapper, perch, rainbow trout, catfish, walleye and shrimp, served with fries, hushpuppies, cole slaw, and the usual list of pies.
There's plenty of iced tea (sweetened and unsweetened), lemonade, Gatorade (mc's blue, and lemon-lime and a couple other varieties.
Mookie and any others who won't be in over the weekend, have a good, safe one, and report back here Monday morning, all in one piece!!
.....Cannonball:
Now that info of Kingman's airport being sold and seemingly from what you are saying it no longer is an airport being used comes as a surprise.
Years ago, I would fly out of there to Phoenix to catch a plane to Chicago. And in Summer it would be a bumpy ride over the hot air currents of the desert. Later on we would drive to Las Vegas to McCarren field to fly back east.
Always loved the {Santa Fe}, RR action around Kingman as I would be there off and on....Before Amtrak, with Santa Fe's double decker full length domes on some of the passenger trains that would stop there.
Sure is harsh desert in almost all ways one goes from there, but enjoyed the time I spent in that area.
Willy
He will blush when I give him all the good wishes. He prefers to just drive!
Whistlepig is a woodchuck or groundhog. Seems they whistle an alarm when danger is near. They are sort of vegans with an occasional lapse.
Off to enjoy the weekend, now. It's rough having a job that you end up off the clock more than on.....
C U Monday.

(Grabs two cream-filled longjohn doughnuts )
(Makes tall glass of iced tea--it's hot in Sacramento, CA! )
Mookie, wish "Driver" a Very Happy Birthday from here! Hope he likes his present!!
(what's a "Whistlepig"?)
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
v~v - just hangin' around.
CW - wow - both knees! But if it gives you long term relief, then it will be worth the surgery!
Mutt - I kind of figured she would do that. Fortunately we never had an emergency, but I know we would have never found Mookie. She could hide in plain sight and if there was a commotion, she had some great hiding places. One was behind a drawer in a dresser....
Willy - so many trains, so little time. And while I have you here, I know it supposed to cool off next week, but is this horrible humidity going to continue even with the cool? Gah....(place fingers around throat while saying this...)
I am just now recovering from having the 4th off and now I am out of here early today. I will never get caught up! And that doesn't even include my work....
Off to see what the rest of the forum is doing.
Happy weekend! Driver's birthday is Sat - hope he wakes up for it and hope he likes his gift from me - he gets to take me train watching in the heat! Who wouldn't like that!
Oh yes - someone reminded me that my list of animals around the watch site should be:
1 turkey, 1 fox, 1-2 kestral(s), 1 woodchuck (groundhog, whistlepig), numerous pigeons, 1 driver and a most important ingredient in this wildlife recipe - 1 MUDCHICKEN!
0 asparagus!
Bye...
Good Friday morning, everyone. Well, another week is rolling to a close. Hope everyone had a pleasant evening last night, and best wishes for a good day today to everyone.
It looks like it's going to be another very warm day all over the country. We're to get to 88 today, but back in the low 90s tomorrow through next week. Ah, summertime.
Yeah, Cannonball, just when you think things are maybe getting better, something else hits you in the face. I knew, in my heart, that I'd eventually have to have knee replacement surgery, but when you hear that's it's going to happen sooner than you figured, it is still kind of a shock, after being told that I was "too young" for the last two years, and they wouldn't even send me to an orthopedist.
I did tell the doctor what that "nurse practicioner" told me two years ago, and he said, "She doesn't know what she's talking about"! That put my first opinion of him up a notch, believe you me.
Everyone have a good morning, enjoy your breakfast, and I'll be back in later to start our FRIDAY FISH FRY.
Quentin; My son Sam told me that Kingman airport has been sold as of 2yrs. ago . The graves of all the planes are still visable from the roadway. This is all private property now. But you can see the humps in rows . Sometimes with bino's one can see bits of metal stickin' out .As for Litchfield Park~~ The land belongs to USAF ( part of Luke field ) There is really a lot of history from WWII at both places if you care to hunt for it . If you are really interested I would be glad to help. Both our sons were in the royal yacht club ( Navy ) They could help with info also. Respectfully, Cannonball

The doctor did not say if he was going to do both together, but I would imagine that is how it'll be done: one frist, then after awhile, the other one replaced. We don't know when the surgery will be yet. I need to contact the insurance, and make sure they will approve the surgery; then get back with the doctor. He's basically leaving the when, etc., up to me (he did say though, not to wait until I was in a wheelchair, to decide to have the surgery.) I'm kind of thinking around the end of September, when it'll be cooler.

When my wife hears about this, she will be INSTANTLY JEALOUS. As you may remember, she had orthoscopic knee surgery a little over a month ago on her right knee, and the same back in October on her left knee. The surgeries have done little to alleviate her pain. She's been told by the most recent Orthopedic surgeon to see her that she's too young for knee replacement.
Did you ever try the jell injections? We've heard mixed reviews on them...
CW - Sorry to hear about the need for a knee replacement. I'll be praying that everything goes well with that, whenever you decide to have the surgery.
Well, I missed three of the Union Pacific Heritage Units when they came through today, but I guess they will be coming back sometime in the next few days to spend some time in front of the Durham Western Heritage Museum in downtown Omaha. I'm anxiously waiting to see them and take some photos!
Joe, have containers made up and in the fridge for you and Lance for tonight.
You all did a pretty good job at lunchtime, cleaning up the leftovers from last night.
So for supper tonight, you will find on the warmer bar: THURSDAY EDITION OF PIZZA FEST. Canadian bacon, cheese, anchovie, Hawaiian, supreme and pepperoni/sausage/mushroom.
You all have a good evening, and I think I'm gonna go try to take a short nap.
To All, Thanks for the concerns, we all are very glad we didn't have an extra Fireworks Show right here. Apparently that gas main had been seeping/leaking for awhile, and it took the neighborhood kids (and adults) with fireworks to set it off.
(at least it was just a flame, and not a BOOM!!)
For one member of the household, that this is their very first 4th of July here, asked how the day was, and she just said: "Very Interesting"!!
We didn't have much of a choice in evacuating the house, since they used our front fence for the "Perimeter Tape"; that put us in the "Hot Zone"!!(stretched from our fence to across the street)
(Mookie, they wanted us to get out in a hurry, Winter went with us, but Sweetie decided to hide so we couldn't get her.)

not a problem.hope everything on it got fixed.
