Grumble - grumble...

Must be Monday.  Came to work at usual 5:30.  Had to unlock the building since custodian taking day off.  Went to office to unload everything in my arms, got settled in to check the forum and the fire alarm went off.

You probably didn't know I can fly, did you?

I am in a group of offices in our basement and the elevator automatically shuts off.  I can do a long flight of stairs in about 3 seconds.  Had my purse and cell phone and headed outside.

Didn't see a thing in the building, but I have been trained!  Sat on the front wall about 25 feet from the door and waited.  LFD about 3 blocks away.  Nothing.  Waited.  Nothing.  Finally called 911 and that got a whole lot of attention.

Such nice young men - and do you know they hire fire and police officers on their looks?  Such a nice thing at 5:40 am....   sigh.... something about a uniform.....      I digress....

Bottom line, University operator is always notified when an alarm goes off.  Didn't happen.  Had a smoke head off upstairs - way upstairs.  Need to find out from Tree what that means.  I know smoke detector - but was it switched off or just "off"......I called 911 and that was the first indication there was a problem.

So 3-4 police officers, (local and UNL), truck, engine, 2 firemen (others rested in engine), and one batallion chief - (he is so nice!) And me.  Eat your heart out ladies....

I am super sensitive to noise, so the fire alarm going off really shattered my nervous system so I had to hang on to things to keep from shaking to death.  Plus it was lightning and thundering and sprinkling outside.  A rock and a hard place for me!

I will retire to the hammock and hope to get calmed down soon.  I think I have extra adrenaline if anyone needs any!

No coffee - just warm milk for this morning.....

Good Monday morning to one and all.  Looks like another HOT day around here.  I would say the 3 H's, but I've not heard the "hazy" part yet, just Hot and Humid.  Think I'll  be staying in the house most of the day.

I hope everyone had a very good weekend.

Coffee is ready, along with fresh juice, lemonade and iced tea.  On the breakfast bar:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, along with cantaloupe and watermelon chunks, and there's also some fresh sliced tomatoes this morning.

Hope everyone stays as cool as possible today, and if anyone has any requests for lunch and supper menus, please let me know.

Well, how about 93 today, 90 tomorrow, and 87 on Tuesday for Scottsbluff. It's not exactly cool, but certainly better than 105.

It was 99 in Omaha yesterday and that's what I expect again today. After that 80s for Monday through Friday with a chance of rain tomorrow and again Tuesday night.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Ray, thank you so much for getting everything ready this morning!  The rolls and doughnuts are a nice way to start the weekend morning.

SUNDAY DINNER will be ready right around 12:30 EDT.   I've got two large Crock Pots going on the counter, cooking on HIGH.   On the menu today:

Rump roast w/potatoes, carrots, onions and other side dishes will be:  cole slaw, corn on the cob, and shelly beans w/diced tomatoes Italian.

I believe Ray brought in enough cookies to have for today's dessert.

Good morning folks. I've got the coffee brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch or orange juice. Also, I've got a couple big jars of ice tea brewing out here on the counter. It's a little too hot to be slaving over a hot stove, so I brought in a good selection of rolls & doughnuts from the local bakery. There is also some chocolate chip, oatmeal and peanut butter cookies for those of you who might want one later this afternoon.

I will be headed for my job at Wendy's in just under two hours, it has cooled down to 77 degrees here in Sioux Falls overnight. We will see a high of 87 this afternoon with a possibility of thunderstorms toward evening.............pray for rain!!

When my alarm went off at 4:00 this AM, I wanted to roll over and go back to sleep. I will have tomorrow off and I can look forward to sleeping in tomorrow morning.

I hope the rest of you out there all have a good day, the "cat" in Lincoln too. Stay cool!

Since my last post here in the Diner, it has cooled down here by ONE degree, and we now have a temp of 93. The humidity is at 41%. It is supposed to be a bit cooler tomorrow, with a 20% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, we will see 87 degrees. I have yet to find out what Monday's forecast will be. Gotta start praying for rain, my yard, along with everyone else's is burning up!! I feel sorry for the folks who take care of my yard, the lack of rain is surely having a negative affect on their business.

I'm gonna grab a few slices of pizza, and then it's off to the shower and into bed afterwards. I have to leave the house for Wendy's by 6:30 tomorrow morning. I am not looking forward to going to work, the kitchen where I am working is often hotter than what it is outside.Dead [xx(] But at least I have a job to report to and I am earning a fairly decent pay check.

Well, Sarah and I are back home now.  Had a nice time at the mall.  Very nice and cool in there!!  We almost didn't want to come out of the mall!

Mutt, thanks for fixing the pizzas for tonight.  Looks like you did a very good job, too!!

The only real shopping I did, was to buy myself a couple of pairs of "house shoes.  One pair has really good soles, that I can wear out in the yard.  I'm about ready for a short nap!  Being out in the heat (we've had an Ozone Warning out for the afternoon, and you can really feel it when you're out in the hot air and sun.

Everyone, have a great evening, and enjoy your pizzas Mutt made today!

Seventy-one here at supper time - and that's our high for the day, with scattered showers and the threat of some thunder-boomers.  Humidity is a tad high at 75%, but not uncomfortable.

Hawaiian for me, please.

Talk about a lazy day - I really needed a "down" day.  The Dalmatian appreciated some significant lap time, too.  Tomorrow it's back on the railroad and then on Monday [gasp] back to work!

I just got home from working a shift at Wendy's here in Sioux Falls. I started work this morning at 7:00 and finally clocked out at roughly 2:15 this afternoon.

It is pretty HOT here in Sioux Falls, we have a temperature of 94 degrees and the humidity is sitting at about 43%. The wind  is out of the south at about 17 mph. Has anyone out there got it any hotter than this?? Thank God for air conditioning!!

CANADIANPACIFIC2816

Ray, you're very correct about the pizza menu, but look under "Combos"!!

At least OUR temp has not been that high, (100+degrees) we've been reasonably comfortable for this time of year. (had a HOT enough start though)

The "high humidty" and lack of "breeze" is what makes it hard to handle.

Thanks Joe, for doing the extra lemonade and tea, I can use some help. It's a bit hard when there's only one of us around.

It's hotter here in Omaha. Our current temperature is 97 degrees. The humidity is a bit lower at 35%, though.

....Well Willy, we're not going to reach 98 today, but we're in and have been in the category of hot and dry for weeks now.  To get to 90 today and a bit hotter next 2 days.

Believe next chance of rain {chance of}, will be about Tuesday.  We sure do need more rain.  But we've sure had nice weather as far as sunshine and clear skies go....and it's Summer, and we expect it to be like that.  Crops have been stunted because of lack of rain but surprisingly, look pretty good....Even green.

Good morning!

Here in Omaha we're heading for a high temperature today of 98 degrees and the same for tomorrow. However, the computer models actually indicate what could be our first decent rain event in over a month for Monday. That would be so wonderful!

Everyone have a great weekend!

Lance and Joe, thanks to you both, for putting the coffee on, and making fresh juice and lemonade, and refillng the Gatorade!

For breakfast, on the warmer you, you'll find:  turkey bacon, pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, plenty of maple syrup, and there are fresh melon chunks of all types in the cooler.

Everyone have a great day today, whatever you do, and wherever you go.  Tonight's PIZZA FEST will get under way somewhere between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. EDT
