That car looks like I feel- like it's not going anywhere for quite awhile.  Our current temp is -4.2 degrees with a wind chill of -15.  We had a low earlier this morning of -5.4.  At least it promises to be a nice sunny day- the sun is shining on my monitor right now.

I think the longest trip I will be making today will be to the mailbox by the street.

Another beautiful day here in sunny San Jose.  Looks like the high will be in the mid to upper 60s.  Captain [4:-)]

Good morning!

The low here was 4 below zero. Looks like the weather machine is working just the way it should be. Datafever, as much as I'm enjoying this cold blast, when it's done I wouldn't mind some upper 60s. Even I have a limit to how much cold air I can put up with.

This is finally going to be a relaxing weekend. For the first time in several weeks there isn't a lot of homework, so I can finally just do nothing, which is what weekends are really meant for.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and stay warm and safe!

Willy, just because you are doing such a great job with the weather machine, I will see how many carloads of this sunny warm weather that I can fill and ship out to you.  Perhaps I can even make a unit train out of it.  Captain [4:-)]

Well, it sure isn't warming up much here today- my SkyScan Atomic Clock says it's Zero degrees, and my weather station (on a tripod on the roof) says it's -1.3 degrees.

Now if I could just get over this sore throat and clogged sinuses...

.....Lots of variations in weather on here today but most pretty cold.  We had 9+ something this morning about 7 am and currently it's 16.7 on my Sharper Image unit....also an atomic clock....{Aren't they great...!}.  It and radio controlled wrist watch keep right together second to second.

Came back home in the last hour and it was blowing and snowing so heavy like a blizzard and now the sun is shining {very}, brightly with mostly blue sky.  But oh that wind with the low temps is brutal.

Next two or so days indicate it's to give us a bit below "0" each morning.  I'll be glad to get through this phase of the stuff.....

Willy can have all of this really cold blast.

Hey Willy...me and you need to have a chat about not ordering up mega-ground blizzards when there are special consists to be photographed. I've only been scared a couple times in my life while driving, and this morning was one of them. When I can't see the hood ornament on the Cruiser, that's getting a little out of hand. Think we can trim the windspeed a little tomorrow morning when I take another shot at getting this guy?

Well - Hit a little weather myself today on the way to Utica for the RR membership/board meeting.  I was out of the heavy snow early enough, but the wind was blowing directly across the road, resulting in whiteouts (usually brief fortunately) and messy roads.  Eventually I got out of that, too.

Good meeting, decent lunch (If you're in Utica, NY, go to Union Station and eat at the "Blue Flag" restaurant) and I took care of some business I had to deal with.

Even caught a train (Amtrak headed west for Niagara Falls, a half hour late).  The eastbound due up next was running 3 hours late, per the board.

Got back from a day at my office in the Rockford area about 7pm.  Temperature was floating right around -9 for the whole trip back (only about 45 minutes).  So tired I'll just have a piece of the desert pie and then sign off for now.  Fritz and I are going to do laps.  I stretch out of the couch in front of the TV and Fritz lays on my lap.  Cover up with a light blanket and watch TV or doze off.

See you later.

I just wanted to say that anyone who is complaining about the snow should just be thankful that they don't live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Take a look at the past 12 hours of observations.

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/data/obhistory/KGRR.html

And, anyone who is complaining about the cold should just be thankful that they don't live in International Falls, Minnesota.

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?CityName=International+Falls&state=MN&site=DLH

Take a look at the current temperature and wind chill, as well as today's high and last night's low.

It could be worse folks. Oh, I don't have anything for people who are complaining about ground blizzards, so I guess Chris does have a valid complaint. I know that I would not want to get into one of those on the road.

Thanks for the anchovie pizza.  I can never get enough anchovies.

As for International Fall, I think they probably get some of the coldest weather in the nation.  It always seems to be below zero there in the winter.

Stay warm everyone!

....We can see extreme temps almost anywhere in our northern area this time of the year.  Ours is not too extreme this morning, just  a dozen or so below normal...It's now 1.2 degrees at 7:26 am. Crystal clear skies and brightening eastern skies getting ready for bright sunshine....

It has been as low as -38  here back about 1994....and thankfully, we were in Florida at the time and it was't that comfortable there either.  Remember it was in the mid 50's just north of Clearwater, Dunedin... with a wind blowing off the Gulf....Felt rather nasty.  But kept thinking how much better it was than being up here.

Saw -38 F back about 1961 in southwestern Pennsylvania...{home area}, too and driving to work that morning the power steering in my 1959 Chevrolet convertible started to stiffen up but we made it ok...{about 12 miles}.

Still later that same morning {in a BWA test vehicle}, we noted it was still reading -20 on vehicle thermometer at 9 am....Cold.

So cold can pretty much occur where the nasty weather systems move in our northern climes....

Joe made cinnamon rolls earlier this morning. Many thanks, Joe!Dinner [dinner]

CW hasn't shown up in the Diner yet, so I will take charge of serving breakfast. On the menu for this morning; buttermilk pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, omlets, bacon and sausage, hash brown potatoes, and banana nut muffins. Yum, Yum!!Chef [C=:-)]Dinner [dinner]

We have 8 degrees below 0 here in Sioux Falls this morning, the wind is out of the NW at 10 mph, leaving us with a wind chill of 26 below 0. Our maximum high this afternoon will be 0. I don't think I will be going anywhere today. Everyone stay out of the cold, and stay warm!!

Good Sunday morning to all!  Joe and Ray, thanks so much for all the breakfast fixings this morning.  Hey, guys, shortstuff here, needs help in putting up birthday decorations.  Because. . .Happy B-Day [bday]HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAY!!!!Happy B-Day [bday]Happy B-Day [bday]

For Sunday Dinner today, there will be sandwiches in the cooler around 12 EST.  I will be busy preparing the SUPER BOWL SUPPER for this evening:  on tonight's menu will be:

1.  anchovie pizza for our birthday man; 2.  tacos, enchiladas, Spanish fried rice, and some other Mexican dishes; 3.  medium spicy chili.

These dishes will be ready about 5:30 p.m. EST, so you all can fill your plates, in preparation to watching the game.

For dessert, I'm getting ready to start baking a special birthday cake for Jay:  it'll be a football shaped cake, with icing colored for both teams playing today, along with saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAY!!!"  on it.

Can someone PM me a list of the smilies used on here. I need the codes for them (ex. The Happy Birthday smilie is "[b day]"). I am no longer able to see them the "normal way". Thanks.

Happy B-Day [bday] Jay!!!! Hope you have a great one!

Well, Willy, looking out west I still see some Lenticular clouds. They're usually a good sign of high winds. I also heard that Hwy. 93 is still shut down due to conditions, so I won't be chasing 1989 this morning. I did get a "Wallhanger" shot last night though (which you all can see in this post if you're so inclined), so I'm not too worried about it.

Well, I've got a couple errands to run before I head over to my cousins' house to catch the Superbowl. I won't be in for pizza, but if there are any leftovers, can you save some for me, CW? Cold pizza (even with anchovies!) has to be one of my favorite breakfasts!

Good Morning!

The story begins:  In spite of often burning the candle at both ends he makes it through his 66th year.  When asked how he did it, he replied, "Luck, never trying to beat the train to the crossing, and luck."

Thanks for the birthday greetings, cake and putting anchovy pizza on the food list for the Super Bowl party.  The Bears were a long time favorite of mine, and I think it was very nice of them to come out and entertain me on my birthday.  Rather than being down in that Florida heat, I am sure they would rather be back in their homes with doors and windows closed against the sub-zero temperatures.

Speaking of which, my everyday old outdoor thermometer is showing -10.  If it is accurate, we must be just about on the direct route of the coldest air heading south.  I don't expect to be on the plus side today, but the forecast is for a slow warming trend over the next ten days.  Sure glad I don't have any kind of outside job.

Being just outside the usual lake effect areas has its benefits - I'm not getting the three + feet of snow that they are getting...

The birthday boy can have that anchovie pizza all to himself.  The rest of the menu sounds really good, though!

Daughter just called - they are on the road in the Albany area - hardly any snow there at all.

(Expletive) it's cold out!!!!

Got down to -15 last night here in the Madison area, is now -4 out, high for today supposed to be -3, not supposed to see the plus side of the thermometer untill Tuesday.  Hopefully the truck will be up to the task on Monday night, got a full tank of fuel and dumped a quart of anti-gel in on Friday.  As long as I can get the engine to turn over, I should be okay.

Speaking of work, heard some good news this past week, should not have to worry about taking another week off, orders are coming in a bit better now, and the 1,000 trailers that UPS just ordered will help out a bunch.  Also heard that we will be building a bunch of drop-frame trailers in the next few months, both for customers, and for stock units.

Some chili (mild, warm, and five-alarm) sounds really good for game time this afternoon, along with Goldfish crackers.
