Well, at least the restaurant where the contractor took me had a little train running around over the entryway..

NS is apparently keeping their rails dusted off here in Lynchburg, although all I can say is that I've seen standing stuff and heard horns and a couple of engines running down the track.  Maybe I'll catch one yet!

The weather is being nice.  Now if I could find a car wash (manual) I could get the salt off the truck...

Still looking to head for VMT in Roanoke this week.  Looking pretty good.

I did a lot of walking around today - sure didn't seem like a holiday.  There was supposed to be a cold front moving in, but it sure didn't seem like it.  I took my coat off in short order and then had to carry it with me until I got back home.

Thanks, Dan.  Maybe, since Larry (Tree) is out of town, you might want to check his N scale layout.  Mutt did get his Oscale 2-rail dusted.

Spokyone Bob, let's see:  snow shovel, $12, pickup $14,000; guy shoveling in T-shirt and shorts:  PRICELESS!!

Whenever you all are ready, I've got the brats, steaks, burgers and hotdogs all ready to go on the grills.  I've also got corn on the cob, boiling on the stove, got baked beans in the oven, and have made potato salad and three-bean salad.  And I made sure we have plenty of potato chips on hand, along with relish, sweet and dill pickles and mustard, ketchup, etc.

Doogie McDougal has been released from the Animal Hospital and now is hanging out at BossHen's office where she can keep an eye on him. He might actually get some sleep after being up all night barking his disapproval of the accomodations. Everybody over there is poking his/her nose in the office to see how he's doing. The only sign of his ordeal is a pressure bandage on his front leg covering up where the i.v. needle went. (He can't bark now, he's barked himself hoarse!)

The seizures he went through were not pretty and the vet can't put a definate figure on what happened. It may have been a one time thing (We hope so)

Mudchicken, hope Doogie gets better soon!!

For lunch today, we have:  burgers  and cheeseburgers w/fries or onion rings, whichever you prefer (both will be available); open-faced pork tenderloin sandwiches w/mashed taters and gravy;  Caesar and garden salad w/breadsticks; and there are some pizzas leftover from Saturday night.

Went to turn on the layouts in the Coffee Shop, but noticed a fine layer of dust on all the rails.  Whose week is it to dust the layouts?  You guys KNOW I won't touch your layouts, cause I don't want to accidentally break anything!  If you all break something while cleaning, I won't be getting yelled at, and you can yell at yourselfWink [;)]

Does anyone have any requests for supper tonight?!?!  Does anyone want to have a cookout out on the patio?

SJ, just about at every meal!

I think both Matt and Joe prefer crisper ones than are customary around here, though.  We should have gone to Portillo's for those.  Meantime, they all had cupcakes (with a whistle!) at Two Toots in my absence.

Something comical about you making a reclining person sit up and take notice!

Going out into the garden, with trains.  Anyone?

Jay - we warmed up to almost flood stage over the weekend, so it will head your way eventually.  Then a biggie next weekend!

Sir Chicken - my well wishes to Sir Doogie.  Hopefully it is just that he got too far away from his dinner bowl and was having withdrawals?  Maybe he ate some yellow snow?

Brian - tee hee.  Flatten you and the recliner?

Quick mornings greetings before I am off to the mines.  Plenty of "overtime" scheduled for six days in my branch office near Rockford.  Don't have a 'net hook-up there so I can't get in to comment on things here until I get home in the evening.

Temps are supposed to get above freezing today, but we shall see.  After below freezing for 35 of the last 37 days, the heat arriving in the air mass moving in will have much work to do.

I'll take coffee and a bacon and egg sandwich to go, and a bib, so I can snack in the car on the way to work.

***YAWN***

Long weekend and getting longer. One of the dogs (Doogie) started having an ugly set of seizures yesterday morning in the middle of a long walk. After a frantic trip to the emergency vet (and big $$$) he got left for overnight observations and tests. Blood work was negative. We're still not sure what we are dealing with. Gotta go spring him from the vet later this morning and take him to BossHen to watch in her office during the day....

Work - Inspecting a new radio system.  Wish I could have  been here in Lynchburg "back in the day."  N&W, C&O, Virginian....  NS now - and I intend to do a little trainwatching, given time.  Might even be able to get away long enough to visit the VA Museum of Transportation in Roanoke - current home of N&W 611 and 1218, not to mention a Berk that may be headed north in the not-too-distant future.  I want to take in the Link museum as well.

So much to say, so little time.

Joe and Matt - welcome back and thanx for picture.  Love that color red!  Should do the Norange in Red instead....

Tree - VA for?  Hurry back - I know I will need something that only you and Brian can reach and Brian isn't always here.

BC - Didjahavefries?

Weather nice enough to trainwatch Sat and Sun both.  Ran coal trains like they were on sale.

Willy - they say there is trouble a-brewin'.  I don't think I am going to be happy having to use the periscope to see outside this weekend.

CW - how about a cup of coffee out on the porch swing.  Keep knudging me so I stay awake!

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Emmar, glad you made it back all right, from your track meet.  And Joe, glad you and Matt made it back from Chi-town, and glad to know you both had a  great time.

Thank you, Joe, for making the coffee and juice.

On the warmer bar, you will find:  bacon (turkey), sausage (patties & links), pancakes, apple & cinnamon muffins, blueberry muffins, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, hash browns, tater tots, oatmeal, grits and toast.

Everyone have a great day, and hope you all will be as warm as Louisville is to be:  a high of 48 to 50.

Hi everyone I'm back. My trip was for a track meet and had nothing to do with trains, but i still managed to see a couple of ag trains in the Palouse region of Washington.  Unfortunitally I forgot my camera so i don't have any pictures.

I got lucky on the drive over because the weather was pretty good. However the weather today on the way back was pretty bad. When I left it was raining and about 32 degrees with a little wind.  Then it got bad with pouring rain/snow and wind that was strong enough to almost blow my truck off the road.  Seeing an old BN engine in green and white with safty strips was nice though.  There a still quite a few of them around, but this is the first one I have seen in a while being used in tandam with other engines for a main line train.

I arrived home a little late for dinner but I am looking forward to breakfast tommorrow. Zzz [zzz]

Unfortunately, we didn't get to Eola Saturday night, because it was dark before we brought our guests out of Chicago (sun was setting roughly dead ahead of us on the Stevenson).  Then today I had to desert Joe and Matt to go to work (Joe found out a little about the dungeon here!).  Even worse, they didn't get to see any humping operations when they came to pick me up.  But we took them back to Chicago by train, and they are presumably headed back to Ohio as we speak.  Late edit:  their departure was delayed by over an hour--still at the station after 9:00 p.m.  Matt got to see plenty of trains, of all colors, and switches and diamonds (don't know if he noticed, but there were some diamonds with switches in them, too!), and a long string of "highball greens".  I know they got a bunch of good pictures.
