I am 17 and have been a railfan since about 11. My dad had his boat at a boatyard right by the CSX line to Miami, Fla.The only thing I had to d when he was there working was watch the trains, and it stuck with me.

I'm 17 and a railfan, and have been a railfan as far back as I can remember. I think by now my blood is equal parts creosote, bunker C, and valve oil.

I've been a railfan since I don't even know when. I'm 16 know, and I've gotten alot into B&W photography. I just visited the Nevada Northern earlier this month and took around three rolls. I highly reccomend the trip, the line to Ruth runs right by the highway and through town, so its like one continuous photo runby.

not a teenager but wanted to comment on the fact You don't know any railfans...Remember..WE ARE A SPECIAL BREED. Not like all the automobile fans and such. We dare to be different and WE appreciate the finer things in life. And remember, when someone looks at You like you are insane because You like trains, ask them..."how is it different from straining ones neck at an air show?..or watching race cars mindlessly go in circles for 500 miles?" I rest my case.

I'm 17, and am I allowed to like trains and as gentlegiant puts it "watch race cars mindlessly go in circles for 500 miles?" I think it is a good mix.

I am a 15 year old railfan. But in Norhwestern NJ there isnt much action around where i live except for the NYSW but i do get to go railfan CSX's River Subdivision (ex Conrail Riverline) in and around Bagota NJ a few times a month. I am also planning to become an engineer for CSXT or the NYSW. I also would like to add that i made a Yahoo! Group for future railroad employees and current railroad employees who would like to share their expeiriances. I just started it so there arent many members but feel free to join the link is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FutureRailroadersofAmerica/?yguid=152403491

I definetly agree with that. I didn't actually mean I don't know any other railfans, I know a lot! What I meant was that I don't know any other railfans my own age. Alaksaman, I know exactly what you mean. My friends and peers think I'm crazy too. Some seem to think that there's something wrong with a 17 year old who gets excited watching a train go by and still "plays with toy trains", but I consider being a railfan to be a lot more intelligent than many of the activities other people my age get involved in (and get in trouble for, for that matter). Around here hockey is the big thing. A great deal of people I know are obsessed with hockey, but I don't have the slightest interest in it at all. Oh well. They just don't know what they're missing. In kindergarten you could see the CP line from the window and whenever a train went by I would run to the window while the other kids would give me strange looks. How kids have changed! The high school is on the other side of town and from a couple rooms you can see the railroad as well. Of course I don't run to the window when a train goes by (as tempting as it is), but I still turn my head to see what's going through town!

Hi all I am a 14 year old railfan from Chicago. I have been watching Trains at the Various Metra Train Staions near my house. All of them saw limited Frieght action and now I am very tired of Metra (and a little Amtrak) but just at the start of this month I started to Videotape my trips to Places such as Deval Crossing and La Grange Crossing. Now I am satisfied because these lines and crossings have tons of frieght action![:D] Anyway I am angry at UP and the BN cause the ate up some off my fav. railroads (CN&w and CB&Q) and now will hold a grude against the Canadian National Railway cause they swallowed up tha Wisconson Central![:(!] Just though youd like to know!

I'm a fan of NASCAR, the NFL, the NHL, College Basketball (not the NBA), and soccer. I also play the trumpet for my high school. I play in the marching band, the orchestra, the jazz band, and my symphonic band, and take lessons. At the same time, I'm an honors student at my school and I'm currently taking an AP U.S. History class that will no doubt cover something about the railroads during the late 1800s. Can someone beat that mix?
