Wow, that's something. But marching band, orchestra and jass band are all connected to trumpet, right? Keep up the good work, America needs people like you[:)][:)][:)]! (Seriously)

It's hard to find a girl who shares or at least appreciates your train love, especially at my age (16). When my friends find out i like trains they look at me like i have three eyes. But i'm proud to be who i am[8D], what your friends don't know won't hurt 'em.

Now I am satisfied because these lines and crossings have tons of frieght action![:D] Anyway I am angry at UP and the BN cause the ate up some off my fav. railroads (CN&w and CB&Q) and now will hold a grude against the Canadian National Railway cause they swallowed up tha Wisconson Central![:(!] Just though youd like to know!

LaGrangelll Hi [:)] I think many of us can relate to what you have said about one railroad merging another. It is sad that we have so few choices when it comes to the large class 1 s. We do have short lines and regionals but many of them run on a limited schedule and can be hard to railfan. My mother worked for a railroad that was merged into BN. It is a crime (literally) what happens to the people, places and property of the fallen flag. I will not go into detail here, if someone is really interested they can email me. What many thought was a good idea before the merger becomes a diaster after the merger. I am not speaking as a railfan here. I am speaking as a family member of a fallen flag with some knowledge of what really happens. It is past sad. And in some cases the merger agreement is almost thrown out the door minutes after the take over. Some might say "that's life" and to that I say, "NO, it's a crime". [:(!] [xx(] [V]

I'm 16, live by CPR's Brockville Sub, its VIA dominated now, used to be CPR, but its down to the one local freight.
i am a 15 min. drive from the CN Kingston sub.
I have gotten myself an excellent reputation around the yard...so from the day i was born to now.....its only getting to be a better experience.

10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...

Alex et al...I won't say I am even close to your age, but there are several of us among the female persuasion that enjoy trains. I always have, but haven't had until just recently the ability to enjoy them more fully. You would be surprised what a girl might like, if you take the time to introduce her to them - slowly. Maybe take her trackside and point out some of the more obvious items and keep it simple. Wouldn't hurt to try this out on a girl who enjoys going to car shows or will stick her head under the hood with you while you are working on your own car - or even taking a bicycle apart.

I love trains and enjoy learning about them and don't want models or train items. I want the real thing - Big Boy in the back yard. But being realistic, I will sit trackside and watch them for hours. Beats cleaning the house any day!

Hey Mook, I'll swap ya. I'll clean house (and swill a few brews), and you can come ride the train for me. At least I won't have to take a breathalizer and whiz test housecleaning (got hit with one this week). Heck, I'll even bake a cake while I'm at it, chocolate even.

Jen et al,

I have to agree; I don't know of any teenage female railfans. In fact, unless someone's been holding out on me, all my adult female friends who are railfans—including myself—found their passion for trains after taking a job that had something to do with railroading.

But I contend that the exposure to railroading just awakened an interest that already was there.

My teen daughters have little interest in trains, but one is interested in photography and the other has been known to stand beside me in a local restaurant's parking lot feeling the whoosh of air as a loaded CPR train heads toward Milwaukee. Maybe this is a latent tendency toward being a railfan later. Maybe not.

Either way, teen girls aren't likely to just appear trackside. But if she likes a guy and he introduces her to railfanning, she might end up liking it herself.

What about you older guys who are married or dating someone? Does your "significant other" share your passion? Understand it? Or just tolerate it?

Kathi - my point exactly - if she likes the guy, she will go. And who knows, she may find it even a little interesting.

[:X] You're on! That is the best offer I have had all day - or all month for that matter! I can do the breathalyzer and being female, whiz every 1/2 hour! House is small, just don't vacuum up the cat and chocolate cake would be ever so nice!

Beer in fridge.

Thanx

I'm fairly new to the site, but not around the tracks. I have always been interested in trains (18 plus years). Nothing like sitting at the tracks for a few hours and getting to see a lot a trains.
