Hi all! And greetings from the Syracuse, NY area. I'm JP and I get my CR/CSX, etc fix at various spots in the area. Baldwinsville has a small 5-track yard across a street from the local Budweiser plant; Solvay has a nice small size yard for interchanging w/ Finger Lakes RR (FGLK - who has some ince guys that even let me ride with them for a few hours one Saturday a few yrs ago while they did various switching maneuvers there) who switches the Solvay Paperboard plant and goes on the Auburn Secondary to Geneva; And there's smal; 2-3 track yard in Liverpool (CP-Woodard), and various sidings between the Regional Transportation Center and the yard in the East Syracuse-Minoa area. I ysed to live across the street from the siding that CR used to service the New Venture Gear plant and is now used by CSX to service a beer distributor about 3-5 times per week.
I still see some of the old CR power, with the CR 'Q' logo, with the CSX markings. Even have seen some former WC and IC engines on a few of the CN trains in the area. CN uses the DeWitt yard for interchange ops w/ CSX about every 2-3 days. And I see NS, BNSF, UP, CN, and CP run-throughs on the mainline. Plus, there's also NYS&W who goes from DeWitt Yard to New jersey, via the line to Binghamton and then the Southern Tier line to Jersey.
My layout, when I get back to working on it, will have a mix of all of these roads, and my dream is to one day have a nice size pike w/ a model of the DeWitt Yard, all in HO of course! [:D]
Well, enough about me for now. I'll stop in every day, when time permits as I want to see what everyone else has to say and report. An I too, will do the same when I get done w/ any railfanning trips I make in the area.
Take care!
JP

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

[zzz][zzz] and various rolling stock....
This region has some short lines as well, but it hauls anything from containers, to road railers, to tanks, to freight, to almost anything

I grew up on the Syracuse to Watertown to Massena NY to Montreal Quebec on the secondary main.....
I have seen many Conrail freights through this region...It is now run by CSX, but they have improved the lines and the yards in watertown (massey) and massena (massena railroad terminal)

bwilcox and cr6479
I live in Elmwood Park, in northern NJ about 10 miles from NYC. I go to the west shore (River Line) in Ridgefield Park to get my freight train fix. I see about 20 NJTransit trains a day not counting the ones I am riding on the Main-Bergen line, but NS has eliminated all through service. Conrail put on a good show at times and had done quite a job with what they had to originally deal with. CSX trains on the River line can be few and far between despite the fact that they supposedly have as many. Conrail was our railroad and I don't think it's the same without it. But I am a train fanatic and will take what I can get. Oak Island is the yard by Newark Airport, by the way. Good talking to you guys.

...and a pair of FL9's southbound on the Hudson Line shot from Fort Montgomery, NY.

Never seen that paint scheme before, guess it was another experiment for increased visibility.

The yellow nose was added to FL9's owned by the MTA for commuter service to Poughkeepsie NY on the Hudson Line.

Ah....you live at the west end of the West Shore. I grew up on the east end of the line, at Milepost 16 in far northeast New Jersey. NYC and PC referred to the line as the West Shore, Conrail called it the River Line.
