Conrail in Montana:

When I was little I liked Conrail because it was Blue and I like blue. My first Lionel Train was a GP9 in Conrail.

Do you have any sites that are equal to the information above but dealing with CSX and NS?

Chinatown, and everyone else for that matter -
You are all welcome. Anyone else that wants to see more, let me know, or if you want to, and the easiest way, is just to do a 'Google' search on Conrail, and or CSX. Also, use the sites such as railserve.com, railfan.net, and trainweb.org

CR6479 -
Here are a couple of CR related websites that should help you find the answers to any of your questions.

http://crcyc.railfan.net/ - Updated at least monthly

http://www.trainweb.org/crcorp/ - Last updates were in mid 2004

http://www.trainweb.org/conrail/models/models.htm

http://www.bullsheet.com/ - No longer updated as of 1 September 2005, but under the 'Bulletin Board' heading one can find Loco Rosters and Freight Train Menu's w/ the then CR Symbols

http://www.thedieselshop.us/CR.HTML - Last updated July 0f 2004

http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/cr/cr.html - Has alot of CR related info including pics, etc.

I have more websites, if you'd like to check them out, let me know and I'll post them for all to view.

Enjoy!

At the beginning, yes. At the end, no - because of mergers between other roads. CSX, NS, BNSFand UP all ran more trains than Conrail in the 1990s.

More malarky......

The ONLY places Conrail ever got close to 90 trains a day was on the west end of the Pittsburgh line and west of Elkhart on the Chicago Line. The east end of the Chicago line had about 50-60 trains a day.

NS is running slightly lighter on the west end of the Chicago line than Conrail did. About the same on the Pittsburgh line. CSX is doing about the same volume on the east end of the Chicago Line.

WHAT! No, no, no. Try ~30. CSX is, and has been running a similar amount.

90-400 trains a day between Syracuse and Buffalo? Surely, you meant 90-100. 0-50 is a pretty wide range, too.

Lets just say there are quite a few less. I don't even go there and neither do my friends as much because activity is scarce. I am sure there are times when there is something to see. Conrail was one of those railroads that it seems was destined to eventually be gone, they themselves were into spinning off lines to center on a core group of mainlines. I always thought it would be interesting if NS and CSX diid something to honor the history of New York Central and Pennsylvania, essentially the two railroads they got in the Conrail split. I know CR still exists, sort of, but it's hardly the same.

trainfan1211. Buffalo to Syracuse chicago main line also has less train when CSX took over CONRAIL. When CONRAIL was around the Buffalo to Syracuse chicago main line had 90-400 trains a day and now it is 0-50 trains a day on the Buffalo to Syracuse chicago main line.

Thanks for the reply and I have to say I would agree there are less trains. By the way I hope all is all right with your family. The Lehigh Line was amazing in the mid 90s, doesn't seem to be the same with NS-CSX. Even though part of the line is still technically owned by Conrail.
