Conrail was a lot more about being taken over than taking anyone over themselves. After all, they consisted of about seven different railroads that had to be trimmed down. They had to eliminate parallel main lines and consolidate things into lines that were most efficient to operate. Around here, most EL lines were eliminated because the important areas could be accessed by other lines now owned by CR. Conrail would rather spin off lines then let short lines deliver the traffic to them, rather than acquire new lines. Although they did acquire the Monongahela.

Erie and Reading are long gone. Just tribute Locomotives around. I know the original merger deal included just CSX, but it wasn't a Conrail takeover.

Everything! And from a lot of different railroads. They eventually started weeding out stuff like Alcos and older power like SD45s. They revitalized their locomotive fleet with a large order of SD40-2s and in the end of course had some unique modern power. I understand that people on the Boston Line, however, got a little tired of the C30-7a power after a while, since those dominated power there for a long time.

Chinatown -
Yes I do. I'll have to post them on Monday though as it's time for me to shut my office down for the weekend.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
