But how about this.
There are jobs that, for whatever social or political reason, Americans now view as beneath them.
So, instead of making the process as long and drawn out as we do, shoot, lets issue them green cards, and let them in to do the work, and pay taxes into the system.
Why do they come here illegaly?
Because the motivating factor is total poverty.
Most of them have kids, and they want a better life than what is available there.
By the time they fini***he current process to get a green card, and be legal here, years have gone by.
Hungry kids dont wait.
So they come here any way they can, and take any job offered.
As for Walmart, for me, it sorta symbolized what going "wrong" with American values.
We dont expect or demand quality anymore, what we expect is quanity.
I can actually remember when McDonalds sold food that tasted like food!
Now, I wouldnt buy a thing from them.
I remember when grocrey shopping was done at a local market, the goods were fresh, and your money stayed in the comunity.
Now days, it Sams, or Walmart, or Costco, the big warehouse stores, and your stuck with what they can buy in truckload quanities.
I dont like Walmart to much myself, because they dont sell to many things I want to begin with, and I still like to shop locally, I get better service.
Sure, I spent a few dollars more, but I get it back in service, which you cant find at Walmart.

As for the illegals, well, they have been here all along, it isnt a new thing.
They are, for the most part, law abiding people, who just want to work.
No way we could patrol all of our border, nor would a fence slow them down one bit.
So, lets include them in our system, make them the new "working class" if we must.
You cant stop them from comming, you cant jail all of them, we dont and cant afford to even really try.
And too many American business depend on them for cheap labor in the first place.
Dont think there is any one solution for this one.
But do think our laws should apply to anyone within our borders, regardless of how they got here.
Its either one law for everyone, or our Constitution isnt worth the paper it was written on.

I very much believe in fair wages. I am not a big fan of the current day Wal-Mart. I also believe our unprotected protected border is a welcome matt for all who want to wipe their feet and walk through the door. About 2 months ago there was an article about the Border Patrol, the Park Rangers, and the crime in the U. S. National Park System. The National Parks, especially the ones in states that border Mexico, have become a haven for illegal immigrants and believe it or not terriorists. The Park Rangers are lightly armed and are few and far between. However, on the other hand, those others folks aren't. So folks from many other countries wipe their feet and walk in. The article stated that the parks used to be a beautiful and SAFE place to vacation. Now they are not. They might still be beautiful but they are not safe. I once saw a "COPS" espisode where the Arizona Highway Patrol pulled over a van with illegals packed in their like sardines. They contacted the Border Patrol to come get 'em. The answer from the Border Patrol was let them go, we don't have a agent that can get them or a place to put them. Sad , but true.

I very much believe in fair play, fair wages, fair this and fair that. Years ago there was a shortage of service workers at places like McDs along the east cost. So to get workers they upped the hourly wages. Then the workers came. When business/industry can't fill the positions open then they will raise the pay. As long as their are people willing to work for low pay ie the illegal immigrants, then wages will stay low. I once had a roommate who worked in poultry processing. Now these jobs are becomming filled more and more by illegal immigrants.

I wouldn't put it past WallyMart to subcontract these people. I wouldn't put it past them to pull dirty tricks in their retail trade. THEY DO. (My opinion based on other articles I have read.) Wal-Mart has greately gone downhill (and many other American places) since Sam died. He was a humble man and fair in his dealings. But as he gave up more and more control of the daily workings of the company it went downhill.

Let's be fair in our employee dealings. Let's hire those who are legal to work and pay them fair. As for the others, send them packing.

It is time to guard the border much better than has been in the past. We must even begin to watch the Canadian border much better. Not because of Canada or Canadians but because of "others" who would use that lightly patroled border to illegally enter this country and do harm here.

Now, I am all for jobs staying here in America, but sadly, there is only so much money in the pot, and if the companies cant find Americans to screw the clocks together at the wage they have to pay to remain profitable, then their only choices are to close the business, or sent the products elsewhere to be built.

So, if you dont want or cant afford to pay a American $12.00 per hour to pour concrete or dig ditches, but you can pay a illegal mexican worker $5.50 for the same work, guess who gets the job?

Seems the garment industry hires as many illegal cloths workers and Texas hires ditch diggers.

So we are stuck.

And America seems to be ok with that.

On the other hand, we have access to a huge workforce that wants to work, at wages much less than the legal minimun, who walk miles and miles to get to a jobs that would break almost any one of "us" who tried it.
And we sneer at them, because they are illegal.

But, after adding in the cost of insurance, tier one and two taxes, and all the other cost associated with hireing an employee, the Port spends about $450.00 buck a day to employee me.
Now, because we make over $500.00 per car switched, that isnt a huge cost.
If I switch 3 cars, we paid all the cost of myself, the helper and the engineer.
Of course, the cost of fule, track, and such isnt included in this simple example, but you get the idea.
But if the amount was any different, or the cost of switching cars went to $250.00 per cars, then I would have to accept less, either in wages or benefits, or go find a different job.

Now WalMart is a retailer, and they opperate on about a 2% profit margin.
What they really sell is space.
Every square foot of their stores has a value.
Thats why you see the "hot" items crammed into the shelves.
If a product dosnt sell within a few weeks, its wasting retail space on that shelf that could earn money for them.
Thats why you dont find sewing supplies there, but you can buy the in fad clothes.
You wont find alternators or carburators in their automotive section, but you will find batterys and tires, oil and oil filters, because these things move quick, with a short shelf life,where a alternator will sit there months before its sold.
Its a completly consumer driven company, and the turnover of the on hand stock is unbelivable.
They empty their warehouses once a week.
If they didnt have a constant supply of new stock on the way, they would be empty in a few days, and out of business in weeks.
They must have manual labors to unload the trucks, sort the products, and stock the shelves, machines cant do that job.
Most Americans wont do that work, its hard, hot and physically demanding, and even at above minimun wage, I dont think I could live like that.
But here is a group of people willing to, wanting to do this job, and the company that hired them is screwing them out of the bare minimun our laws says they must be paid because they dont have a green card.
Not real sure that what I consider the American Way.

Our legal system and laws says everyone is entitled to certain rights and protection, no matter who you are.

Would you want it any other way?

They empty their warehouses once a week.
If they didnt have a constant supply of new stock on the way, they would be empty in a few days, and out of business in weeks.
They must have manual labors to unload the trucks, sort the products, and stock the shelves, machines cant do that job.
Most Americans wont do that work, its hard, hot and physically demanding, and even at above minimun wage, I dont think I could live like that.
But here is a group of people willing to, wanting to do this job, and the company that hired them is screwing them out of the bare minimun our laws says they must be paid because they dont have a green card.
Not real sure that what I consider the American Way.

Our legal system and laws says everyone is entitled to certain rights and protection, no matter who you are.

Would you want it any other way?

I am sorry to say but these people are trying to make a better life for themselves.Customer service has gone down in all retail aspects.Now they want the cashiers to ring up and bag your grocieries.being a former bag baoy myself I say send it down and matt watches me bag so he doesn't get into the candy so conviently located at the checkout.Now they have these round bagger things.I cant even bag.no wonder why the lines are so long this is progress?If I needed a job I would go back to retail but some people are so lazy that all thats left are illegals to do the work.[:(]
