Poleburner-

If the crossing was that blind, why was the chlorine truck even using it? The driver is responsible for sight distance too. If he can't see, he shouldn't be crossing there.

Take a look at Section 22452(b) of the California Vehicle Code that requires drivers of tank trucks to stop, look and listen and they SHALL NOT PROCEED UNTIL [Driver] CAN DO SO SAFELY.

Don't even try to lump that on the RR. Sounds like another crossing that needs to get on the closure list...

Its a problem in America that most people ignore. In Austin,Texas two teenaged girls were killed by a UP train. What can get worse you ask. I knew those girls.

QUOTE: Tell me ---your in a string of 50 moveing cars approaching a light on the opposite side of the tracks ---Where are you going to end up if car 17
say is caught by the light?

HUH??? what the heck does that have to do with the price of Oil in lebinon?

QUOTE: The crossing lights are supposed to be tied in with the traffic lights if you didn't know any better

In Canada.. they are.. they should be in the USA...

QUOTE: . Also the crossing equipment is to be timed longer and anything over 45 seconds median barriers put in.

Sentance fragment. makes absolutely no logical sense what is stated above.

QUOTE: Can you tell me where the 200 sets of crossing lights went to when the trench project opened up out there?

most likely nothing happened to them

QUOTE: Quaranteed they were stolen by the railroad and sold back to the state, sold out of country, or used for spare parts.

Proof needed. Sounds stupid.. whod steal RR lights? What is this.. this sounds more like a familiar movie plot from "Traffic"

QUOTE:
The equipment wasn't theirs to take. Tracks are abandoned and the RR goes in and takes the equipment-

didn't likely happen.

QUOTE: The tax-payers paid for it at 5x its real value if the truth was known.

I serioualy doubt missouri that you work for GE, or Westinghouse. and you don't know the price of a bell, 2 flashing lights, a metalic stick, a red X and a few shunts, plus or minus 8 hours work for installing these things.

QUOTE: [i]
The time sequence here ---At 27 seconds the car LEGALLY entered the crossing-At 26 seconds the first light blinked while the car was still Legally in the crossing area-at 24 seconds the gate started down at 22 seconds the car Legally passed the gate exiting the crossing.
[i]

Notice all the time is correct on the RR lights.. i factored all this in.. either you guys have tracks that are 35 feet wide, the crossing itself is 60 feet wide.. or the car was moving at 2.7 mph BASED on missouris Statement.

QUOTE: Either that or it was staged which happens all the time also
.

STAGED.. now you are full of trash.. SANM antonio's ABC 9 did not stage that.. if you can read.

OK, So here we are again. I know of several accidets no fault of the person hit by the train. Before you all yell; It also WAS NOT THE FAULT OF THE LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEER either, NEVER IS! So "NOT every single time". The last such accident was just two days ago. Here in California an Amtrak train hit a clorine tank truck on a blind crossing.

I have been at that same crossing myself several times. It is blind! TRAIN SPEED vs. SIGHT DISTACE IS EVERYTHING at all unsignalled crossings - NO EXCEPTIONS. From the point where a train is first visible, it takes about five seconds to get to the crossing. Now considering that the road is one lane wide with a very tight corner on one side, any big lumbering truck is always going to take more than five seconds to start across and clear the tracks. The train can be out of sight of any driver and he still hasn't time to cross.

I've said it before in this forum. An accident is absolutely certain at all blind crossings. Its just a gamble as to who will get it - We could "Take a Pool". It certain
to happen.

QUIZ:
1. Who was the stupid person that rightfully gets the blame?
A. Witnesses.
B. Missouri
C. Trains.com
D. The Locomotive Engineer
E. The Truck Driver

Weel, lets see.
A. Surely the witnesses didn't stop the truck, or the train.
B. Missourri didn't do anything about it except PO people on this forum.
C. Trains.com isn't involved - except to provide a forum for this noisy subject
D. The locomotive engineer couldn't even see the truck until five seconds before
E. The trucker couldn't see the train either - I suppose some might fault him for not refusing to cross at all.

HEY, ITS A TRICK QUESTION! Try your GOVERNMENT - they did it! They made that crossing blind! and thousands more just like it! And the'll keep on doing it, Too. Until we put the blame where it belongs - and raise a big stink until they get tired of us and fix the problem.

We are tired of ourselves on this issue, we ought to be able to make the politicans tired too!

Class is over, detention is now in session. Detention is for insubordination: ignoring the traffic rules.

The article you cited states in Paragraph 2:

"Unfortunately, people die everyday after ignoring railroad warning lights and bells."

Lets not forget people also ignoring:
red traffic lights at intersections
stop signs
yield signs
don't walk signs
school zones
cross walks
highway construction zones
speed limits

or don't forget people driving:
drunk
on drugs
smoking
using a cell phone
applying makeup

which increases the danger even more.

why should RR Xing get ALL the attention? why not other traffic violations, too?people are killed all the time ignoring ALL of the above. it's just as dangerous and deadly as ignoring a red flashing RR Xing light, crossbucks, or the presence of rails themselves. you must stop at EVERY RR Xing EVERYtime, not just when a train is coming. look both ways, roll down your windows, then proceed when safety.

bus drivers don't have a problem with this, why do you? I guess you never took driver's ed.
Actually I used to fix drivers ed simulators. What I want to do is get a drivers education teacher to show me how to get across blind crossing. Just think if they taught their students to dial 911 and report blind crossings.
What part of Look, Listen and Live did you find so hard to learn?
I guess that was the same class that taught you to think before you speak?
Asleep in both classes, or just asleep at the wheel?
Is that the chapter before gates prevent 9 out of 10 collisions and 95 out of 100 deaths compared to Mickey Mouse signs---Lights prevent 8 out of 10 collisions and 87 out of 100 deaths and right after the in their pockets Federal government deeming it that railroads don't pay diddly for safety equipment.???

The difference between a bad order car and Missouri? The bad order car can be fixed, no hope for Missouri.
Missouri how many people are killed by drunken and/or unliscensed drivers? How many people die becouse of tired truck drivers? Their is no warning from them, no gates or lights.
I was out railfaning today, and witnessed a near collision. I stopped for the crossing, the driver behind me used profanity, and flew me the finger, then went around me. Fortunatly she stopped short of the crossing. She was less than a foot from the plow as the motor went by. She was on a cell phone and in a hurry. Missouri, the typical driver is a dumb ***, such as yourself! Get off your rock, sober up and think about what you are doing. Did you think that a telephoto lens compresses distance? Get your I. Q. checked and admit you can not compete with the big boys.
I have heard it said you are from Colorado, I believe you have spent too much time in the sun and your brain is baked. Reduce your altitude and seek shelter!

Mookie, if Missouri was in the car, you were not going fast enough! You should be proud that a girl fom Nebraska knows more about life than the great Missouri! Keep up the good work mookie. If you and your driver ever come across a fat foamer in a sedan in western Nebraska, stop and say high. Missouri, just keep on driving.
