Why won't you answer my post? Do you hate everything in this world? Is there anything you don't rant about? Are animals (dogs, cats, etc) on your list to hate, too?

Missouri, are you a High School drop-out? When you get back to school take a class in physics. The trains speed is irrelevant, it's the cars speed that is cridical at this point in the picture. I am still looking for that hump that you say is a blind spot. How long were the flashing lights on? Are you saying this person was not given proper warning?

Hey Missouri or Mike, you ding-a-ling. You wouldn't know train velocity from a wet fart! On my 204.0 mile run I on average see 5 cars try to beat the train. Remember that is an average. Time of day plays a large factor. As for the gate picture, that engine could have been stopped and just began movement re activating the gates. The gates were on their way down like they should have been. Remember a train or standing cut of cars may stop no closer than 250 feet from the crossing. Looks kosher to me. Respond to this one now. We hit a car. Where was it? approx. 50 yards from the crossing on the main line. The occupants turned at the crossing and went down the track 50 yards before getting stuck and abandoning their vehicle. Was that my fault too? The tapes were pulled and we did everything right! This is not an isolated incident, there are suicedes, kids playing in the right of way (where is mom and dad?), kids playing chicken (that one sends chills down my spine), kids putting crap on the rails for whatever reason (big stuff like tie plates, spikes, ties) all of which could derail and kill the crew or shoot out and hurt by standers. C'mon, you would be much more believeable if you weren't so millitant and biased. Every time I see a car run the gates my blood runs cold. That car could be full of kids and some jerk parent who wanted to save 2-3 minutes could ruin those kids lives and mine. I would die 1000 times if I hit a carload of kids. Remember, the protection devices do work. People choose to ignore them. Period. Our RR is installing 4 quatrant gates to prevent this. The RR has to pay more to rpotect dumb people from themselves! If a gate malfunctions I report it (as do all of us). We stop and protect the crossing until occupied, it is my job! The train ahead of us reported a gate malfunction and in less than 5 minutes our signalmen were there to fix it and to protect it! Each crew protected it themselves until they arrived. 5 minutes is a better response time than most ambulances or fire depts. Get a clue, cause you are talking out of your rear end! That is not brainwashing, just facts that go against your cause, and you don't like it!

Someone get a dunce cap for missouri. He didn't pay attention to the lesson last time in class.

Class is over, detention is now in session. Detention is for insubordination: ignoring the traffic rules.

The article you cited states in Paragraph 2:

"Unfortunately, people die everyday after ignoring railroad warning lights and bells."

Lets not forget people also ignoring:
red traffic lights at intersections
stop signs
yield signs
don't walk signs
school zones
cross walks
highway construction zones
speed limits

or don't forget people driving:
drunk
on drugs
smoking
using a cell phone
applying makeup

which increases the danger even more.

why should RR Xing get ALL the attention? why not other traffic violations, too?people are killed all the time ignoring ALL of the above. it's just as dangerous and deadly as ignoring a red flashing RR Xing light, crossbucks, or the presence of rails themselves. you must stop at EVERY RR Xing EVERYtime, not just when a train is coming. look both ways, roll down your windows, then proceed when safety.

bus drivers don't have a problem with this, why do you? I guess you never took driver's ed.

Actually I used to fix drivers ed simulators. What I want to do is get a drivers education teacher to show me how to get across blind crossing. Just think if they taught their students to dial 911 and report blind crossings.

I watched the video linked to the initial posting and I'm a little confused by the intent of the posting. The video shows impatient idiot drivers trying to save a couple of minutes by driving thru the RR crossings in defiance of flashing lights and trying to beat the lowering gates. Just Plain Stupid People, i've posted my feelings on this elsewhere, where I live we have accidents all the time between commuter trains/streetcars and idiot drivers. EVERY SINGLE TIME theres been an accident its been someone trying to beat the train or they stop on the track for a traffic signal in complete obliviousness to the "Do Not Stop on Tracks" signs and they expect the train to stop for them, like its just this big steel bus. Stupid is as Stupid does, and people who willingly ignore crossing lights and warnings ar just proof of that saying.

   Have fun with your trains

Tell me ---your in a string of 50 moveing cars approaching a light on the opposite side of the tracks ---Where are you going to end up if car 17 say is caught by the light? Duh I dunno. The crossing lights are supposed to be tied in with the traffic lights if you didn't know any better . Also the crossing equipment is to be timed longer and anything over 45 seconds median barriers put in. Can you tell me where the 200 sets of crossing lights went to when the trench project opened up out there? Quaranteed they were stolen by the railroad and sold back to the state, sold out of country, or used for spare parts. The equipment wasn't theirs to take. Tracks are abandoned and the RR goes in and takes the equipment---The tax-payers paid for it at 5x its real value if the truth was known.

By the way the car in the picture was exiting the crossing and the gate was on the opposite side of the street so the car wasn't going under the gate it was LEGALLY going beside it. I was joshing when I said the car was going in reverse.

The time sequence here ---At 27 seconds the car LEGALLY entered the crossing-At 26 seconds the first light blinked while the car was still Legally in the crossing area-at 24 seconds the gate started down at 22 seconds the car Legally passed the gate exiting the crossing. Either that or it was staged which happens all the time also. As long as the railroads can keep the public thinking it's there own doing the attention won't be drawn to them for the billions of dollars worth of safety equipment needed for the speeds the trains run at. And what your watching on TV is the cops covering for the cities, counties, and states negligience for letting the RRs get away with it.
