Hey Missouri or Mike, you ding-a-ling. You wouldn't know train velocity from a wet fart! On my 204.0 mile run I on average see 5 cars try to beat the train. Remember that is an average. Time of day plays a large factor. As for the gate picture, that engine could have been stopped and just began movement re activating the gates. The gates were on their way down like they should have been. Remember a train or standing cut of cars may stop no closer than 250 feet from the crossing. Looks kosher to me. Respond to this one now. We hit a car. Where was it? approx. 50 yards from the crossing on the main line. The occupants turned at the crossing and went down the track 50 yards before getting stuck and abandoning their vehicle. Was that my fault too? The tapes were pulled and we did everything right! This is not an isolated incident, there are suicedes, kids playing in the right of way (where is mom and dad?), kids playing chicken (that one sends chills down my spine), kids putting crap on the rails for whatever reason (big stuff like tie plates, spikes, ties) all of which could derail and kill the crew or shoot out and hurt by standers. C'mon, you would be much more believeable if you weren't so millitant and biased. Every time I see a car run the gates my blood runs cold. That car could be full of kids and some jerk parent who wanted to save 2-3 minutes could ruin those kids lives and mine. I would die 1000 times if I hit a carload of kids. Remember, the protection devices do work. People choose to ignore them. Period. Our RR is installing 4 quatrant gates to prevent this. The RR has to pay more to rpotect dumb people from themselves! If a gate malfunctions I report it (as do all of us). We stop and protect the crossing until occupied, it is my job! The train ahead of us reported a gate malfunction and in less than 5 minutes our signalmen were there to fix it and to protect it! Each crew protected it themselves until they arrived. 5 minutes is a better response time than most ambulances or fire depts. Get a clue, cause you are talking out of your rear end! That is not brainwashing, just facts that go against your cause, and you don't like it! <br />Ken
