The RR's should set out a couple cars thet need painting, give the taggers a theme and let them go to it. RR's win since they get cars painted for free & it's all legal.

Alas, I suspect all you'd get would be "amateurs." Most likely, none of the "real" taggers would want to be caught dead doing something like that...

Well SPbed,

Just seems like the signs of a decaying society.

As a kid in the late 60s and a teen in the late 70s, watching freight trains with their various colors and logos was always a thrill. Watching freight trains now and seeing the "artistic trash" on them makes me think of gangs, ghetto thugs, kids that aren't being raised, turf wars. Like it or not, that's what graffitti is associated with![B)][:0]

Before anyone harps on me with their political correctness drool, I lived in a New York ghetto ( South Bronx) for a while as a kid and remember the graffitti and the gangs only too well! I'm so grateful that my parents made sure that I didn't get sucked into the street life.

Peace!

What the big deal? We do not own the cars do we now? So why care? I found some of it very neat in fact. [:o)]

Destroyed???? No,, it's not destroyed. If it were then the vehicle would be un-useable. If anything the extra coats of paint will prolong the life of the asset..

Uh, Hugh.

Since you're a professional engineer I'm sure that you're aware that many spray can paints are still lacquer based mixes, though it's being phased out gradually.

The automotive paints on railroad cars today is enamel based. Some are Urethane others Epoxy. In any case LACQUER BASED PAINTS DAMAGE ENAMEL FINISHES, period! The transfer agent, lacquer thinner, evaporates quickly but in those few minutes the damage is done to the topcoat, even on the modern "super-tough" finishes.( I was a paint & body man for a number of years, in case anyone's wondering.)

There is absolutely no moral, economic, or social benefit to trashing trains with graffitti.[V]

BNSF railfan,
I do not like it either, but I have this 'strange' feeling, that you might
as well get used to it,as no matter what some people do,it's going
to be around for awhile.

No matter who likes or dislikes graffitti, when it's done like that,
it is still vandalism, and that person(s) should be punished
to the fullest extent of the law, if and/or when they are found.

And as an aside to joegreen,do you want that painted on the side
of your car ????

Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!

I love it and I actually take pictures of it when a train is stopped or moving slow. Just the other day I saw a car that had graffiti on it from top to bottom and side to side saying "HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2004".I could see the car from a mile away it was so colorful.
