Sold all of the chicken - 600 halves.  When regular sales dropped off, we had a few dozen left, but they went pretty quickly with a few phone calls.

The weather was miserable - windy, rainy - which probably kept a few folks from coming out.  It also made being outside doing the selling tough.  I think I have the feeling back in my fingers...

Test for functionality.

Sorry guys, did not mean to create a disruption. I keep getting a "403 Forbidden" error over on the Model Railroader forums, and it was suggested that I try over here.

I seem to be able to operate as normal on the Trains forum, but not the Model Railroader forum.

Joe, again, sorry about the off-topic post, it was only a test.

Finally it has reached the mid-70s here, so I celebrated spring by wearing shorts and sandals. To my surprise many folks here are in S&S down to the 40s - brrr.

Missed the coverage of this derailment two days ago; UP put locos and cars on the ground at the BNSF Colton Crossing. The UP flyover apparently was not affected. Something must have been going way fast as the power was on the east side where there is no longer a connecting track. I don't know yet if they were on the NW connector or the BNSF mains.

If you look up the definition of "miserable" in the dictionary, I'm pretty sure you'll see our weather today described.  Wet, cold, windy.  Yuck.  Fortunately, better weather can't be far off, although we have to get through spring to get there.

Stood out in it for a while this afternoon to control traffic for an Amish funeral procession.  There were 25-30 buggies.

Now I've got to put in the report so we get credit for it.

Were there 'exhaust' sweepers following the procession?

Curiously, if a farmer drives his herd of cows across the road, ie, one pasture ot another, and leaves "noxious substances" in the road, he can be cited.  The random pile of road apples don't seem to attract the same attention.

Most of us have learned to dodge them, and know where they will be most prevalent...

Saturday afternoons in good weather see lots of "browning" on the rural less traveled highways here in centraal PA.     Its something you learn to live with.    Bsides, their roadside fruit/vegetable/baked goods/cheese stands are really good quality and very resonably priced.

Apparently I slept in today.  Like, I slept through spring, summer, and fall.

We got about 2" of the white stuff.  Some areas just south of me saw over 6".

Supposed to be gone by Friday...

Living hard by the St Lawrence River, it's not uncommon for uncommon ships to garner some attention as they pass through the Thousand Islands.  So it was with the Coast Guard Buoy Tender "Spar."

Did a little checking today, and the Spar is about to lock through the Soo Locks.  MIght even be able to catch it on a web cam there.

Unless they tie up at the locks for the night, of course,.  They're headed for Duluth.

Edit:  Looks like they tied up just below the locks.

I'd be guessing, for sure.  They definitely tied up at the Soo Locks Monday night.

A major issue for them may be the ice that remains on Lake Superior.  The USCG Mackinaw escorted two 1000 footers across the lake today - an indication that the ice on the lake is still pretty significant.

The Spar apparently has icebreaking capabilities, but this may be over their head.  My guess, anyhow.

The Mackinaw is currently laying off Whitefish Bay, and the Arthur Anderson is anchored nearby.  USCG Griffon looks to be breaking ice in that general area as well.  The other 1000 footer (Edgar Speer) is tied up above the locks.

Boatnerd.com shows anticipated arrival times.  Once the Spar gets underway again and clears the locks, it may give an idea of when they'll hit Duluth.

Wish I'd thought of it earlier - I could have watched the Spar pass Marine City and Port Huron.  They posted a video of their passage through the Welland Canal.

You leave enough of that stuff in the road and the country mice complain, too...

Does Spar get the Alders crew or keep their Aleutian crew? Seems like it would be easier to train a crew for a new ship than for the nuances of a new locale.

I think she just went through a refit, so regular rotations may have changed much of the crew.

As of 8 AM, Spar was clear of the Soo Locks and headed out into Whitefish Bay.  It's around 390 miles across Lake Superior from the Soo to Duluth.  One site suggested she would arrive in Duluth tomorrow about 9 AM.  I'll have to remember to check the Duluth cam.

Update: As of 1:30 PM EDT USCG Spar has cleared Whitefish Point, headed for Duluth.

For those following along at home, the Coast Guard buoy tender "Spar" is in the home stretch to Duluth.  I'm guessing noonish at the harbor entrance.  I could be wrong.

Not far behind her is the "Arthur Anderson" ore carrier of Edmund Fitzgerald fame.
