Saw some folks splitting wood at Deshler Friday or Saturday night.

Got some communications work done on the railroad yesterday.  Nice day, but it wasn't all that warm and shade + breeze made for a coll time at times.

Calling hours for a FD member's brother today (also a firefigher, but not in our department).  Funeral is tomorrow and will be a well-attended avent.

I was asked if I could fly the drone, but it's near an airport, so I don't think that's going to happen.

Last night on the VR Cajon cam I noticed several passes in both directions of just two locos - perhaps these are helpers as there was usually a stopped WB at the time. Also, the DS often asks if a 'responder' is needed. Just a speculation, but the very long WBs may have to wait for more spacing due to low independent brake axle count.

I wondered if it was just a group that decided they wanted a fire and brought along their own firewood to have one regardless.

Definitely rain in Deshler today.  The area near the diamond went from dry to "lake" in just a half hour.  The drainage there is very poor, but that's still a lot of rain.

Attended a funeral today.  It sprinkled a bit, but that was all.  The deceased was a federal firefighter who suffered a stroke while at work several years ago.  He apparently fell recently (we responded to the call) and bumped his head, causing a brain bleed.  One of his former bosses gave as touching a eulogy as I've heard in a long time.

Last night on the VR Hesperia/Cajon camera (MP 49.7) I saw more evidence of possible 'monster train' fallout.

An eastbound freight was stopped blocking the grade crossing on screen. This would indicate that another in the block was stopped at CP Frost MP 38.0. About an hour later a WB monster with midtrain DPU breezed through and the EBs left soon after.

IMO BNSF should extend 3MT east from CP Martinez MP 52.8 which would also help WBs. It's a worse situation - distance to both Summit and Lugo is around 3 miles, barely long enough for monsters. What about stopping distance? Another possible location to 'split the distance' is near CP Hesperia MP 45.1.

My Cajon sub Google map: https://goo.gl/maps/fT0BF

The time is right for construction during import slowdowns due to China Covid pauses and high consumer goods inflation. Nah, the bean counters will cut capital and expense spending to improve the OR.

You really should check out the above cam, traffic is high most of the time due to all of the Barstow - SoCal shuttles.

EDIT: another Cajon Pass area resource are the exhaustive picture albums maintained by locals but hosted on an Swiss :) website:  https://www.trainmaster.ch/cajon.htm  WARNING - this could be a days long distraction ....

The bridge at Ranchero looks like it can handle a 3rd track.   I remember when they put the full crossing cates at the aqueduct road.  The old crossing protection was a red light and a bell.

I am sure the underpass has greatly reduced the number of people using that shortcut.

Checked my Discover account - saw two charges I didn't make.

Called Discover - after a 10 minute wait for the Fraud Protection Department to answer they took the information and generated two 'Dispute' cases, cancelled my current card number and said they would issue a new card and number.  Less than 4 hours after the call I got a e-mail that the new card had been shipped FedEx, next day air.

Checked my Discover account - saw two charges I didn't make.

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago.  Just happened to check my on-line banking account and found two $900 charges - at two different dollar stores - from Tennessee.

I had used the card at a drive-through bank kiosk, so I figure there was a skimmer on it.

Reported it in person to the bank.  Had a new card that day, with the charges provisionally removed.  They were later permanently removed.

The curious part is that the charges were at dollar stores.  Who spends $900 at a dollar store?  Clearly they were in on the scam.

Outside of some routine purchases in my local area, I made a couple of purchases through Amazon.  I also had made a motel reservation in Bath, NY in anticipation of competing at Watkins Glen, account race car trouble I had to cancel the reservation as well as my race entry, and received confirmation of both cancellations.

The unknown charges eminated from something called 'Lemonade' for $181 and some sort of wine shop for $1952 and change.

Did a little Google Searching - the 'purchases' appear to be rental fees for a apartment complex in Austin, TX and Renter's Insurance.

Replacement card was received LESS than 24 hours after I reported the issues.

Hot down here in West Memphis, AR, this morning already in the mid 80s, getting close to 100 most of the week. New truck with battery APU and auto start/stop working well, nice in the sleeper, although I have heat shields in the windows to help the APU out. This week should be a good torture test for it, headed to near Baton Rouge and back towards home..........

Left Portland, OR (55 degrees, fog, light rain) and arrived in Denver to 100 degrees and single digit humidity.Surprise

Spent the most of the previous week around Coos Bay (Koosbaynia - where CNW thought it was going to but never got west of Wyoming) - eye opening.

Our son lives about halfway between Coos Bay and Coquille.  Talk about out in the middle of nowhere, this is a classic example- they have to drive about two hours to get to the nearest Home Depot.

Due to PSR and fewer trains there isn't much to report on the UP Mojave sub, but a well photographed and edited video covering Tehachapi has appeared: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpRGygks_HY

Turns out I hadn't even gotten them.  Paid at the door and went to the seminars.

Satruday I ventured north of the border for an amateur radio event in Smith's Falls, Ontario.  Nice event - met some folks I've talked to on the radio.  Didn't buy anything.

Crossing the border in both directions was zero hassle.  Word to the wise - if you want to visit Canada, get the ArriveCAN app on your phone, or whatever.  Makes life much easier...
