Storms in KC area last night with funnel clouds sighted but none on the ground. About two inches of rain at my home.
We're due for rain, but nothing severe that I know of.
CG Spar cleared the bridge at Duluth Harbor at about 10:30 AM local time.

Good morning
Back home and unpacking.Gave plenty of hugs yesterday in Chicago. Got to meet people from here too.We were able on Friday to go to places that Carl had shown us on previous trips.Noticed UP crews working on a switch near JB Tower.Saw some work that needed to be done in Downers Grove.Chores to do here.Back to work tomorrow.College boy needs to go back to school too.
Well, rules classes out of the way for another couple of years. Now I just have to get back on the trains. Can't do that till the doc clears the ankle.
Got to the RR office this morning under gloomy skies. Looked out a little later and it was snowing. They got about an inch. I don't thing we got anything here at home.
Had a nuisance fire call the other night. Someone was driving past one of the local Amish farms where they were boiling sap. Plenty of smoke, of course, and you could see the wood fire through the windows. Clearly the place was on fire - not. Didn't take long to sort things out and send everyone home.
If you're going to call 9-1-1 to report something, make sure it's something that actually needs to be reported. Virtually every winter storm, there will be multiple calls about cars off the road on the Interstate. There may be 3-4 calls for a given vehicle, but because people don't know where they are, responders end up chasing each report.

Worst part about communicating with the public as a Chief Dispatcher when they call in to report a incident. Where is here? Virtually everything on the railroad is discribed in Milepost and the public, if they have any reference at all, is in hundred block of a street. Or maybe 'next to the Quickee Mart'.

When you're talking Interstates, where it might be 7-10 miles between exits, "north of Podunk" can be vastly different than "south of Podunk."
Or it's near "Podunk Corners," which, in our case might place it in any of three different fire department first dues.
We've had times when we had to close a road for some reason. It's amazing how many long-time residents have no idea of how to get where they want to go by some other route.
Ns had some cars uptown after work. Was able to get in an afternoon walk in.Nothing on Csx.Here comes the NDW not wobbling or shaking.Straight shot right across the crossing.I think they got to cross the diamond as we were coming home.Chores to do.
Ns sent a westbound after work. They also had cars uptown.Did errands at home.Csx sent an ethanol train,Q 353 and I 016 eastbound.Sis was talking about graduation season coming up.It's thier oldest granddaughters turn this year.Time flies.Time for supper.
Mother nature is sending rain.Ns had some cars uptown.Saw a csx track inspector and new ties for the NDW when we ran errands.Time for chores inside.
Judging by the radar, we'll see some wet stuff a good deal later tonight.

Sunshine and snowsqualls today.Going to be better tomorrow.Going with Sis Friday to take brother out for his birthday.Chores to do inside here at home.
Had to deliver some tickets to a fire department in the southern part of the county today. While I was down that way I paid a visit to the family (mother's side) gravesite and remembered that the bronze plaque (veteran) had fallen off the back of my cousin's gravestone. Picked up some epoxy, and I'll make a trip down there soon to fix that.
Making my way home, I swung by the old family homestead (I likely spent some time there when I was a wee one) and overheard an EMS dispatch in the area, so I swung over. Relatively minor, fortunately. But under the heading of "I can't go anywhere...", I know most of those folks...
After groceries and a few other errands, I overheard a dispatch for a structure fire more or less on my way home, shortly thereafter reported as a working fire. Wished I'd remembered to throw my drone in the truck, but when I got there, I ran the B4UFly app and found out I couldn't have flown anywhere - too close to the airport. If I had the full fledged UAV license, I might have tried to get the appropriate permission, but...
Hopefully the rest of the day is less eventful.
Morning
No wind, rain or snow today.Went for a walk in town.Checked out the NDW and Csx.Contractors were working along the NDW west of FC.Csx ran a couple trains as well. One of the new industry buildings will have a rail spur served by the NDW.The county also announced they are going ahead with building new roads for people west of town. That way Csx can eliminate 3 crossings.Going to have lunch.Helping a friend later to move stuff for his mom.
Rain on and off here in Nw Ohio.Nothing extra on Ns that I could see after work.Might try to see a friend on I 171 west of town. We'll see what mother nature says.
Haven't heard how it started, but a farmer in a neighboring town lost a bunch of round bales to fire this afternoon. The problem with the round bales is that once fire gets into them the only solution is to break them apart. Easier said than done.

Back in my Trainmaster days we had a 40 foot box car of compressed rags catch fire - by the time the FD had the fire 'under control' most all the rags had been 'liberated' from the box car and were on the ground. While the fire on the surface could be extinguished, there was still fire under the working surface once the extinguised surface was removed. There was a big mess to be cleaned up after the event.

Rolled paper (we're talking industrial sized, not paper towels) is a real pain, as it unrolls itself, with the now single thinkness paper burning quite well.
We ran mutual aid to a barn fire years ago. The fire was in the hay mow - the building itself was not initially involved. Couldn't throw the bales out fast enough. Eventually it too the entire building.
I was watching the Fostoria cam this morning and around 9am there was can't-see-beyond-your-nose fog. Never seen anything like that. I was once in a thick fog on the Pennsy turnpike riding a motorcycle, coming up to tailight glows and hoping people behind would see mine in time. I thought about parking my bike against a guard rail and myself on the botanical side.

rixflix aka Captain Video. Blessed be Jean Shepherd and all His works!!! Hooray for 1939, the all time movie year!!! I took that ride on the Reading but my Baby caught the Katy and left me a mule to ride.

Worst fog's I have ever dealt with were the river fogs that would happen in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in the early Fall. Warm river water giving off 'steam' into the river valley's and it being bound in the valley by the surrounding terrain.
Had some fog on the way to work this morning.
Ns ran a eastbound after work.Came home and worked on the swamp.Couple areas where oak leaves have gathered for the next time.Nice and warm now.Next Mon/Tues possible snow flurries?? Welcome to spring.
Deshler was just as bad Tuesday morning - you could hear trains, but could hardly see them.
One "perk" of being stationed at Vanderberg AFB was "Vandenfog." Had to do with the ocean temperature and some other factors. Dense stuff.
Didn't see anything extra on Ns today.Mother nature sent rain.Have two turtle doves checking out our back yard. They are perched on our swingset out back.Chores to do.
DiningCar's old haunts from his early days is suffering from range-fires today. One is about 200 acres near Bents Old Fort and the other is more than 1200 acres east of Las Animas along US-50 and the long abandoned Santa Fe AV District near Ft Lyon. With no rain and plenty of wind, this could get ugly. (and another range fire north of Cheraw (10 mi W-NW ) just appeared)
(Working on a pile of spaghetti junction area outside Chicago in CSSH's backyard made up of existing and abandoned rail lines that is becoming torture to deal with. I wonder if CSX, NS and tennant IHB are aware of some of the potential nightmares that CR left for them ???)
