Paint day tomorrow in the museum.

Clean up day tomorrow at the county fire training center.  Hope this rain gives up by then.  We've had .81" since midnite, on top of over an inch yesterday, and about a half inch the day before.  We need it, though...

1.  Parked Rip - rap train for over 24 hours here.

2.  Complete bare table headed by 2 CSX locos to Fairburn

3.  Manifest train southbound 2 locos and 3 car manifest with mixed traffic

We've got a forecast like that, too...even the ten-day forecast shows mostly 70s for highs and nothing coming out of the sky.

We dined out yesterday at the Italian restaurant in Elmhurst familiar to many long-time Forum readers.  Still great for both food and ambience.  In the hour or so we were there, there were two or three stack trains, two manifests, and a scoot.

Hopefully the weather will hold out until Monday.  I'm off work that day and I'm planning to get to Elmhurst to exercise the camera (Canon A-1 that uses film!)

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Another loop closed in the trains net? (Kevin Bacon, who?)

On my return from Lincoln (and Mookie's ghost) on Saturday, was surprised to see two new BART cars, de-trucked on flatbed trailers) headed west on I-80. BNSF and UP were exceptionally light on traffic.

evening

Had a great day today. We went down to Marion.Crews at the museum  are repainting the Erie caboose.Csx put q 216 in the yard because the crew ran out of time. Then the local crew was ordered to take the out of the yard and onto Crestline for its crew change.Switching a long train of autoracks sounds like fun.Meanwhile an FRA inspector saw a flaw in a bar at the diamond for NS.So Ns Mow got to fix it.But they had to wait on q 216 and their own 218 to get out of the way.Made a couple other stops on the way home.More good weather on tap for tomorrow. We'll take it.

Started the day with a mutual aid fire call.  The occupants had left for work not long before it was discovered, but there was fire damage in the living room of the singlewide trailer, and smoke throughout, despite a quick hit by the first engine in.

We ended up not being needed.

Spent a part of the afternoon on the road, delivering some printing I had done, and doing more advertising for our chicken barbeque Sunday.  It's going to be strictly a drive-thru affair, something we don't have much experience with.

Most likely -

Rip-rap train is staged for possible hurricane repair service.

It is not that unusual for cars and boxes to get out of balance at Intermodal terminals and then need a 'shipment' of bare tables to support loading.

Part of PSR is operating all scheduled trains so that the power of the scheduled trains get to the destination terminals and thereby supply the power for that terminals outbound scheduled originations.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

IMHO:

1/8 Fault Truck Driver (deserves to lose Class C license, stupid drayman)

1/8 Fault Town of Pendleton (allowing unsafe condition)

1/4 Fault InDOT (design fail (violated AASHTO-AREMA Spec),failed to sign)

1/2 Fault InDOT Rail* Section (Allowed unsafe condition to exist, placed flshers-gates-bell and ignored approach grade ski jumps)

SoapBoxSoapBoxSoapBox

(*)There ought to be a SEPARATE railroad commission to save the railroads from the deaf/dumb/blind rubber- tired clowns that call the shots at InDOT....for reasons like this. The approach from the highway to the tracks is all wrong, especially with the crossing falling in a super-elevated curve. (ski-jump)

How long was the truck stuck on the jackstand before the train arrived? Fortunately the dimwit drayman survived.  (he was out of the truck when the train arrived - did he call the ENS number??? even try???)

It's supposed to be cloudy, yea even rainy, tomorrow.  The trains should still run, though.  Paul, I hope you're still planning on coming this way.  "CopCarSS" (and new daddy!) Chris plans on showing up, too.

We've had some quiet days here, and I'm trying to get some sightings logged and documented.  Latest purchase in the home upgrading is a new stove, to be delivered Thursday.  The old stove is still functional, but kind of wonky after being moved from room to room and back again while the kitchen was remodeled in 2013.

Watch out for my granddaughter...Emily dead-lifted 180 pounds last week (she's 14, and not particularly built like a weight-lifter).  Her dad, in the same competition, lifted over 400 pounds.  They also participated in squat lifts and bench lifts, but don't like those as well.

The Chicken Barbeque went off mostly without a hitch - ran out of the dessert, but we were able to cover that.

This was the first time we'd done a drive-through event.  That went very well, as well.

One of our firefighters wished me a slightly early Happy Birthday - we share the same day.  Which means it's time to wish Carl a slightly early Happy Birthday as well.

I wanted to BBQ so bad this past summer. Though I got so busy I forgot to buy a grill. I still may buy one for the winter to grill in my shed.

With plenty of ventilation!

We do ours on an open pit - I think right now it's configured at about 40' long and about 3' wide.  We did all 350 halves on one "cook."  While the pits take various configurations, that's the technique most organizations in this area use.

The "racks" will hold ~24 halves.  Placing another such rack on top allows two people to flip the whole thing at once.  With two teams of "flippers," the entire pit can be turned in well under a minute.

I've seen a few places that have configured their racks so one person can flip them.

No doubt. I put my grill about half way in the doorway allowing the smoke to an easy escape. The shed had good circulation and venting.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news (and hope I'm not too late), but I'm unable to go to Elmhurst for train-watching today.  I became fairly violently ill last night, and although that could have been a fluke caused by medication, it's best to not give Chris something to take home to his family.  Paul, I hope you understand...I really wanted this meeting to happen!

Better safe than sorry in such a situation.  Anyway, I didn't get there until about 10:15 (about an hour later than usual) and only stayed about an hour before the rain started and I headed for home.
