+6.2F here right now under generally clear skies. Hopefully it'll warm up on the weekend.
Busy working on Christmas gift for granddaughter. It's a kitchen set made from 1-by lumber. Fairly easy, but still some detail work to be done. I have the rest of my shopping pretty much done. Still have to get cards out, though.
Don't forget to check out the conjuction of Jupiter and Saturn this weekend, and at it's best on the 21st. Look westward shortly after sunset - it should be hard to miss.
Another "celestial" event will run from Christmas Eve almost to New Years. The Internation Space Station will be broadcasting a series of Slow Scan TV images. The frequency of the transmissions will be 145.800 MHz. Your scanner may be capable of receiving the broadcasts, especially if you have an outside antenna.
You don't need a fancy computer hook-up, either - there are smart phone and tablet apps for receiving SSTV. Just put your phone or tablet next to the speaker during the transmissions.
You can find out when the ISS will be passing over your area at N2YO.com. It will even give a countdown to the next pass. The ISS orbits at about 90 minutes. Due to the rotation of the orbit, it may not pass a given area for 12 or more hours, but when it does pass your area, it will usually do so several times.
At night, you can usually see it passing, at least on a clear night. It's bright enough most of the time that you can see it even with some light pollution.
Have fun with the heavens!

No snow in Chicago.
So a harmless and very pertinent thread about the incoming Secretary of Transportation is not just locked, but totally deleted as though it never existed. 1984? Ridiculous!!!
To see the effect of heavy-handed censorship, look at how low the activity level is on the five Trains forums. Perhaps it won't come back after the shutdown.
Spent the morning in Indiana, where an inch of snow fell and turned I65 into the world's largest demolition derby.........
They were still cleaning up the mess when I rolled past near noon, and one hazmat wreck was still being worked at 1700 hours.
Playing in Wisconsin tomorrow, hopefully a quiet day.........

We've had fluffy stuff in the air all day today; it's amounted to nothing. It's supposed to be similar all week and through Christmas. Temperatures will permit rain next week, but drop like a rock on Christmas Eve. Here it hardly matters; we have no travel plans, nor will we be entertaining.(My daughter's entire family--save for herself, for the moment--has tested positive. They aren't going anywhere, either.)Still working on a major freight-car research report (probably the majorest major report I've done, it'll go over 40 pages). This report carries an original release date of December 6, and I've been away from railfanning since before then (except for things seen incidentally on other errands). Other things needed doing, too...cards ready to be mailed tomorrow. I wasn't up to doing much today. Pretty good news on the cancer front for a change yesterday; my PSA number took a nosedive of over 75 percent in ten weeks. Hope that can keep up.
BaltACD Snow started about 11 AM - accumulated to about 6 inche Turned to rain about 4 PM - supposed to turn colder and then snow some more.

Grandaughter's Christmas gift is coming along nicely. Still a few parts to assemble, then wood filler and sanding. followed by a coat of primer. It'll be a mother daughter project to finish it up.
Rain stopped and we had sunshine for a bit.Ran errands in town.Went to check on my brother as well.L 96 (NS local) had a piar of sd 60 e's for power at SDI.Saw some traffic on Csx as well. The sun quickly went and the wind picked back up.Just another NW Ohio day.
Ns sent a westbound stack train after work.Nice afternoon today.Larry you never know rather be safe than sorry.Chores to do.
Had to make a trip to town today for materials for the grandaughter's Christmas present and some groceries.
I usually take the "back way" into town, and as I was crossing a state highway, my look left and right revealed what appeared to be a rental box truck partially in the road. I figured he missed a driveway and was stuck. There was a vehicle with a flashing amber light there as well.
So, I looped around for a closer look. If it was all under control, I'd continue on my way into town.
I get to the scene, and nope, it wasn't any of the above. The driver of the box truck (for a package delivery service) had turned directly into the path of an oncoming car.
So I stopped, hit my red lights, and went to investigate - injuries, major hazards, etc. The appropriate fire department was just being dispatched.
No major injuries - I don't think anyone was transported to the hospital.
Since I didn't see it happen, I cleared with the sheriff's deputy and went on my merry way...
You just never know...
Ns was clear after work.Had freezing fog this morning.Guessers say we are going to get wet Saturday.Chores to do.
