Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Had an extra errand to do tonight. Also took my brother a couple things as well.Saw a couple trains on Ns on the way home.Tomorrow is Friday. Will be glad when work is done.
afternoon
Ns local left some cars uptown after work. Mother nature sent some rain and it is still muggy out right now.Chores to do here at home.
mudchickenThe canada geese are NOT getting the message to start heading south. Life is good in the Denver area (still green!) and its getting tough to avoid these guys hanging out in medians and traffic circles around here. Goose poop is becoming an issue again.
On my golf course walk yesterday a small flock of Canada geese made an appearance; no small chicks so I don't think they were the locals who didn't fly north this past spring to the land of poutine. Both groups are smarter than the local tom wild turkeys - good for the latter there is absolutely no hunting allowed here.
My previous temperature report was too high - lows this week are supposed to be just below 50F. Hey, I know, no sympathy from the colder climes.

Our geese seem to be flocking up and getting ready to head south, although I have yet to see any "v's" overhead.
Was driving past a farm Sunday. They've got a couple of ponds close to the highway, and as I was passing some 200 or more geese were wheeling in on "final" to the pond. Quite the sight.

90 in the Mid-Atlantic today - hotter tomorrow! Then into the 60's on Thursday.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Currently +74F here in northern NY, with a thunderbumper moving through. Got just short of an inch of rain early this morning, and this storm may double that.
The barometer has been dropping like a rock all day, and the humidity is super high right now - both bad signs.
And, on top of that, the TV weather lady tells us this +74F will likely be the high for the entire week... We won't quite make it to freezing here in the lowlands, but the Adirondacks will very likely see another freeze.
Evening
Ns had an eastbound coal train and the local in town after work.Didn't see anything on csx as I did errands here at home.Plenty of people upset because of all the construction around.Tomorrow into Thursday the temprature will become more fall like.Chores to do here at home.
good evening
Fostoria's train show was good.Matt got some deals.Saw some Csx traffic but none from Ns while we were there. This morning saw the westbound capitol pass an Ns stack train. After work the local was west of Archbold as a stack train came east.Took care of the yardwork yesterday.Matt helped wash down the house today.Found some places where the bugs were trying to build a nest under the shutters.Tomorrow going to be a high of 90.It will be our 24 year and 51 week anniversary.Plans are all set for next week for our trip.Stacey is excited.Chores inside to do now.
UP started responding to it and talking about it like it was a sentient being. Especially after it changed course and blew right by a sheet pile wall. (And it's hungry - 140 air dumps worth of rip-rap just vanished into the caldron. Snack?... and the mud-monster gets gas ...))
USGS has never encountered anything quite like what's going on here.
Here in the SFBA Mother Nature can't decide what season it is. This past weekend average temps dropped from highs of ~90 to near 60 last night, warranting the return of the blanket to the bed. It is supposed to go back up, so it must be fall ....
In mudpot news, Caltrans has closed SR-111 on the east side of the Salton Sea requiring a long detour around the west side - ouch. Unfortunately our intrepid reporter in Hemet won't be allowed access to the site. Here are some details:

It's no fun dealing with events that happen on a geologic time scale.
Not only Kalmbach had troubles this morning (and yesterday as well)--when I looked for the temperature about 7:00 this morning, the site that was supposed to give me the local temperature indicated a morning temperature in the eighties--when I was expecting it to read in the forties--somehow it showed the temperature for a place in Texas, not here at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. The site has since been reformed.

SD70Dude It's great to be back online! Winter has arrived early in southwestern Alberta, southeastern BC, and Glacier National Park: https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/news/article/calgary-alberta-saskatchewan-are-seeing-intense-snowstorm-in-the-prairies-that-could-be-record-breaking Almost a whole METRE of snow at once! For you American folks that's over 3 feet.

mudchickenYour tribe of 3 at Minneapolis a week ago probably saw the presentation on Uncle Pete's battle with the migrating mobile mud-monster near the Salton Sea (Yuma Sub near Brawley CA MP 662.65).....Maybe follow up with a magazine article on the UP/SP/Shannon & Wilson battle with the thing that now has CalTran's CA-111 now in its sights?
Yeah, the only “local news” on the topic is behind a paywall at the Imperial Valley Press online site. I still can't help myself from calling it the “Post-Press” after all of these years (“Morning Post” was the morning edition and “Imperial Valley Press” was the afternoon edition, basically the same stuff on most pages, as I recall).
It is interesting to look at some of the progression on Google Earth history images over the past few years.

Thank you Brian S. for getting into Ma Kalmbach's closet and kicking the forum server really, really hard. (Down for 2+ days)....crickets were getting annoying.

Ns was clear when I left work.Have a couple errands to do in town then it's on to the game.Mother Nature looks like she might rain on us a bit.
It's the same principle that can explain why the fog clears when your train goes from unsignalled to signaled trackage. (Thanks to the late John R. Crosby).
Damp day on the railroad. Rained all through the initial terminal brake test. Guess who was doing the walking...
After we parked the train for the day, the sun came out. Go figure.
Ns was clear when I got off work.More contractors working on other roads around work too.We made it home.Sis just called to see which side I wanted to sit on for the football game. It's Stacey and Matts team(tinora) vs Nieces and kids team(ayersville). Both kids will be playing in the band.Chores to do here at home.Glad tomorrow is Friday.
Ns was clear when I left work.Got to see a few on Csx as truck had a check up and oil change.Needed new front brake pads so we had them done.Errands and stuff to do tomorrow already after work.Chores to do here now.
Johnny, Tuesday is not a therapy day. However, it's likely that plans will be made for me. I can suggest that they include a trip to the city.
CShaveRR Johnny, this is the same crack team that removed my prostate and followed up with a radiation regimen that kept me "clean" for so long afterwards. No promises are being made, but they're zapping the only thing they can find on the scans, and have all of the confidence that this will take care of the problem.Having said that, I won't be able to meet you on your eastbound trip, as Monday is a day for cardiac rehab (and will be then, unless radiation weakens me too much).

Good Evening
Stacey had to move around some construction to pick me up after work.We did see the Ns local on the west side of town waiting for other traffic to get by.Went to the meeting in Deshler.Saw a phosphate train turn west with plenty of ex CNW,Rock and Milwaukee road hoppers.Things are winding down at the trainpark.Next month it will be put stuff away for the winter.Need to get things ready for tomorrow.
Carl, I was hoping for a little time to get together than we had last fall, but your meds take precedence over personal pleasure. I will be returning through Chicago the following Sunday, coming up from New Orleans in the mrongin, and leaving for here that afternoon.
If there is a possibility of seeing MC in Denver, I will go in to the station as soon as we get in--unless it is meal time for me, since I know now that visiting trains is frowned upon.
Ns local was uptown when I left work.Found out the former CB&Q switcher was scrapped at the Fostoria landfill due to a blown engine. You can see a picture of it on the Fostoria hotspots reader pictures here. Was just told by son have another meeting to go to tonight.Tomorrow night it's a meeting in Deshler.Need to get supper.
Carl, I was sorry to hear that you have a recurrence of cancer. I hope that what you go through this week will be a turning point towards eradication of the trouble.
Three weeks from today, I expect to be on my way east, arriving in Chicago Tuesday afternoon, and leaving at 9:30 in the evening.
We are having cool weather now, 50-60 in the mornings and 70 or so in the afternoons.
