Bigger question - was the spare adequately inflated or had that situation also been 'overlooked' for the same number of years? Before I undertake a long trip (which is 6 to 8 times a year) I crawl under the truck and put the air gauge on the Shrader valve. Of course if the underslung tire has been put away 'backwards' then you can't access the valve.

Watching our weather - supposed to be at daughter's house for Thursday (with apple pie and cranberry relish) and I'm working trains Friday and Saturday. Looks like I might get Sunday off, unless I stick around to help.
I was working on a small project at the fire station and returned to my house for some materials. On the way back to the fire station I noticed it felt like I had a low tire, and I did.

Yes, a large part of Utah received snow yesterday and last night--with the usual misdriving by people who thought they knew how to drive in snow. The tire shops were quite busy today as people realized they needed snow tires.
More snow is predicted tomorrow and Thursday--and St. George (SW Utah) is in trouble because there is no mechanized snow handling equipment in that part of the state. We will need ours up here.

Ns sent a westbound stack train after work.The local was working uptown as well.Matt and I ran errands in town.Csx sent a westbound stack train.The Nd&W was shuffling cars around Fc as well.Matt helped me with the outside lights.I looked at them before we put them out.Oh well those are easier to change if they go out.Tomorrow after work we work on the tree inside.

Don't have the real reason as to why, but this time of year it seems that a higher percentage of 'broken rails' that are discovered are found IN highway grade crossings.

First night of PE for the weekend is in the books. Our F10 decided to misbehave for reasons as yet undiscovered, so it went along for the ride but wasn't working - an RS18u got the duty instead.
Took a few minutes to get myself re-oriented, though. The main controls are in the same place on every AAR stand. It's the little stuff that gets moved around.

We're supposed to get a lot of wind tomorrow. Right now, the trend line for the barometer on my home weather station is in free fall.

We're in the middle of a brief warming spell. Today's high is predicted to be in the 50's and right now it's raining heavily. It should wash down the remaining salt and other crud off of the sidewalks. Train was on time this morning despite the slower loading because of the rain.

Our operation seems to get a few tweaks every year. Some we come up with, some at the behest of the licensing people. OTOH, the licensing people have made some requests that we've successfully refused over the years, as we feel how we do it has advantages for us.
Our weather today was enough above freezing that everything that fell was rain. We had to go to Elmhurst today for dental appointments--one of us at noon and the other at 1:00 p.m. Right during the lunch hour, so we had to come up with a way to keep our mouths clean and fresh. I decided that I would leave home early, ride the scoot to Elmhurst, look over the new railroad-history exhibit at their magnificent museum, and take the first appointment. Pat would eat lunch at home, and drive over for the later appointment. Then we had to have something notarized.Complications: when our scoot got to Elmhurst, there was a westbound manifest sitting on Track 1, blocking six of the seven crossings in town. Of course, I was probably the only person in the city overjoyed at this opportunity to check out some cars, which I did in some detail until it started up (then in less detail as it picked up speed).Second complication: the magnificent museum was closed until later in the afternoon, so I didn't see the exhibit today. We'll be in town again within the week, so we'll try again.Soon after I got back, an intermodal train came out of the yard and stopped on Track 1. He apparently was making a double, as he backed in a short distance, then sat. And sat. Both scoots came and went. Then another westbound intermodal, an auto-rack train, then an eastbound coal train and an ethanol train. Finally, he got moving and out of town, after tying up the downtown for well over 40 minutes. If PSR calls for longer trains like this, I hope they can find a less disruptive way to put them together!My dental appointment wasn't boring at all, thankfully--just a cleaning and checkup. I then waited for Pat to show up before heading to lunch. As I left the office, a westbound manifest left the yard. While she was in for her checkup (and x-rays), I had a good lunch and was treated to a couple of stack trains and a scoot.I had a good window for train-watching at the restaurant. Also looking through the window was a three-year-old little guy, who was excited for the trains, but very well behaved otherwise--his grandmother (I assume) and another lady about the same age were at a table nearby. When I left I complimented them on his behavior and said that the lucky kids love trains this way all their lives.When Pat was done, we took care of our banking business, and saw a couple more stack trains before leaving town. We had an errand to run back in Lombard, and caught yet another stacker.My resource for online checkling out of the sightings I get has been unavailable to me for a couple of days, with no estimated time of getting it back up. Today I got several series of new cars, a new (to me) reporting mark, and a couple of interesting secondhand cars that I think I can deal with on my own.

Rather uneventful trip today, other than watching a pickup pulling a rental pump trailer lose said trailer on the interstate in Neenah. Either it was stolen, or the guy driving was clueless that he lost it, he kept on going down the interstate. Made quite the racket when it hit the median wall........

Southwest Utah is expecting rain tomorrow--the first rain since the middle of May. Snow is expected in the more northern mountains, with 8 inches expected at Soldier Summit.
Some ski resorts expect to open this weekend, and most by the end of the month.
Interesting happening in Deshler last night.
I happened to be watching when a westbound came coasting quietly into view on the camera. No horns, no lights, nothin'.
Apparently the lead unit was having engine problems.
A few minutes later they got the train rolling again. Word was they would drop the lead unit in Hamler (next town down the line).
You just never know what you'll see...

JoeKohGood Evening Took brother and wandered on the eastern side of Indiana.Made a zig and a zag around US 30 and Decatur Indiana.Interesting construction in Geneva Indiana.They are replacing a bridge.Next to it looks like a former railroad bridge.There is also a bike path along US 27 there as well.We had a good visit.Saw plenty of pure horse power being used in the fields and on the roads.Tomorrow Matt is doing lunch after church.Might have enough snowmelt to blow some leaves as well.Neighbors trees are still waiting to drop. stay safe Joe
