I can see the ODOT guys now..."We're gonna build a bridge, and who's gonna pay for it?"  "CSX!"

If you only knew how close to home that statement is hitting....and they never learn.

JoeKoh
good evening

Well we started one way and went to Deshler. My nephew got our new sign done for the trainpark.Saw an I&O go south along sugar street in Lima.Another of their engines tucked itself back into the yard.Csx was busy trying to squeeze everyone by while the MOW crews were out on the Toledo sub.I bet the locals just love how the Cario siding matches with State road north of DT&I Junction.Delivered and installed the sign at Deshler.Csx was busy putting the new crossovers together there as well. Not sure when they will install them.Tomorrow has other projects to do.

stay safe

joe

Guess on installing the crossovers - Labor Day weekend.  Normally reduced traffic levels and difficult train crew availability.

My gandbabies are on the opposite side of Metro Peoria (I think the ATSF Ancona branch was their nearest railroad), so I don't think there will be any chinks in their armor.

I can see the ODOT guys now..."We're gonna build a bridge, and who's gonna pay for it?"  "CSX!"

(The Pekin HS team has a new mascot name, but the evidence of the old one is still around...kinda strange when you see it pop up)

On Defiance's version of the  "Can Opener", PUCO's railroad regulatory functions are being threatened with being moved to ODOT/ORDC which is cringeworthy. (The rubber tired bubbas don't get it and are hardly "neutral".)

Congratulations, Balt, I think...

And as for The Defiance/B&O Memorial Truck Trap, Joe, I would think that the state government might have a say in what's needed there...the road is a highway, is it not?

I was in the surgical center yesterday for routine old-guy procedures (not cancer-related).  Results should be normal.  I feel back to normal this morning, so it's time to get the yard back to normal today.  Mad dash to the Peoria area tomorrow to see the football team intrductions...I'm not sure what kind of league this is, but it's big stuff in that area, and we have a grandson and a granddaughter who will be playing (that is big stuff, as she's the first female in that league ever...she wants to work off some aggression out there).

Perhaps the city government is setting up an "overhead" trap so as to increase the income from fines?Smile

Can the "Stupid Zone" orange diamond signs be brought out of storage?

Update

Paper says they are taking down the warning signs for the Clinton street viaduct. They were placed in the sidewalk row and are using too many lightbulbs. The company that provided the signs has gone out of buisness.Getting ready for the first truck to hit anytime.

joe

What - they never heard of LED's?  Or have the fines placed upon those that struck the bridge declined and created a financial crisis in city government?

Anybody know if the lights came back on in Lincoln?Cool

We use candles here in obscure city.  Gets dark - light 'em.  Gets light - well, you know.  Beatrice NE - just down the road a piece - made national news. They had 100%, it was on our candle-power tv and I didn't even need to look out my window to enjoy it.

Cloudus Obscurus for the Eclipse

Yeah, it wasn't bad here for most of it, but I went out right after the max coverage here and the camera obscura was useless due to the high cloud cover.

Trying to do some amateur radio stuff, part of research on how the eclipse will affect propogation.

The eclipse sure had an effect on my internet service today. Whenever something "big" happens in the US Eastern Time Zone we notice a slowdown in service, and about two to three hours ago was about as bad as I have ever seen it. Everything is so interconnected now, when one part of a page is slowed down, it slows down everyhing else. The Rochelle Web Cam worked OK once it loaded.

They say we experienced 81% coverage here and it was noticably darker for about 45 minutes or so.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Bruce

It's noticably darker here at the max coverage we'll see.  I've gone out with a "camera obscura" several times to check it out.

Trying to do some amateur radio stuff, part of research on how the eclipse will affect propogation.  But the bands are really dead today.

It got really dark-ish here for a bit. That pobably has more to do with a storm that dumped 4" of rain in about 2-1/2 hours than it does with an eclipse. Next storm through is due in about 10 minutes to add some hail to our rain.Umbrella

I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more. Heck, the way it's raining, we might be in Houston.

We moved our youngest son to college this morning at the University of S.D. in Vermillion, South Dakota. The house is going to be a lot quieter now. Driving home from the 135 years old university, my wife asked "Why do you suppose they built that college 5 miles away from the interstate?". Hmm

What is less than a one hour drive by car today was probably a 3 hour ride by train 100+ years ago. It could have been all Milwaukee Road with one change of trains, or Great Northern then Milwaukee Road. I wonder if there were any kind of college specials run back then for repeat customers.

Sounds a lot like when I left for college way back in 1970, except that I was the oldest and Mom and Dad still had my four brothers and one sister at home.  My campus was also within a half-mile of the C&NW.  The "Kate Shelley" was still running at the time, but it was down to an E7 and two coaches.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Hey Murphy - sure!  We railfan in the dark as soon as the days get colder.  We go about 5-6a.  Colder than snot, too!

Tree - that sounds like a fun trip to me and I don't even know how to golf.  The rest would require a little thinking back, but who's not up for a train ride.

After doing a bunch of "unannounced" tests yesterday, today I brought the "Choo Choo Open" train from Utica to Thendara.  It's an annual event - a round of golf followed by a banquet, and usually accompanied by adult beverages from departure to arrival back in Utica that night.

The passengers were well behaved, despite a number of them who enjoyed a liquid breakfast...

Another crew took them home tonight.

Murphy - I can identify with Lisa.  On a short road trip, I told my driver that my right arm in the window would get sunburned.  But, on the way home, I could sit in the same seat and brown up my left arm.

Sounded perfectly logical to me at the time.

Your house will never be quiet and in a matter of a few weeks, he will be home for the holidays.  Happy laundry.
