Hard to say who's doing better right now. BNSF just followed up with an impressive WB with containers and many trailers. YRC/Roadway, JB Hunt and UPS. At 1701 CDT.

Now that's the way to make a living. Big EB UP container and trailer train from the west coast with 3 units up front and one in the middle at 1651 CDT.

I haven't yet figured out how to actually post a photograph in this forum.

Directly - you can't.  You have to post it in a application that supports user created photos and then post the link to that location here.

I just now snapped this photograph of two Union Pacific intermodal freight trains passing each other in Rochelle, Illinois.

Union Pacific Intermodals Meet

When watching the live streaming video from the web camera, I just hit the "PrtScn" button on my keyboard, then I opened my "Paint" program, hit the clipboard icon, and there it was.

I saved it as a "JPEG" file, uploaded it to my "Flickr" account, put it in my "Railroad Trains" album, and here's the URL for the photograph":

NS "Nickel Plate Road" heritage unit was second of three on a WB BNSF mixed consisit train that cleared the diamonds at 1628 CDT. I believe seeing that unit is personal first for me.

Seeing all the posts about screen capture difficulties induced me to experiment. Per modern day web 'designIck! practice the EarthCam folks put icons without help balloons along the window bottom. Clicking the middle 'camera' icon results in a new 'Share' browser window popping up about fifteen seconds (!) later; this delay is due probably to the use of 'new window' rather than 'new tab' prehistoric browser (IE6) compatibility mode.

At the very far right of this 'email' dialog is a green down arrow icon - click it and you get a normal 'Open / Save' dialog that lets you save to file or view in the image editing program of choice.

FYI I'm using Firefox on Linux Mint - if it works here it should work anywhere! Surprise  Double FYI, be sure you have an up-to-date version of Adobe Flash installed.

I sort of like those used car lot penants.  On days when the wind is not enough to move tree branches, they still move, thus assuring you that the picture hasn't frozen.

Besides they may scare the birds away from the seeds long enough so that young vegetable plants get started in order that they may be eaten by the rabbits!

Now that that problem is solved, I've got a question.   Why does the Rochelle webcam appear twice on the "webcams" page?

Did someone kick the power-switch again?

And they still haven't noticed!

I suspect it won't be fixed until sometime on Monday since it's the start of the weekend

But now if you are using IE-11 you can click on the full-screen icon in the lower right corner to make it go to full screen to show you the rotating daisy and "Loading EarthCam  Stream"... (but double-clicking the screen no longer reverts it to the window view).

Ain't cornphewtors wunnerful?

Gosh! How have I ever survived this long without a full screen view of a drawing of a blue-and-white flower?

The Esc key still brings you back to a normal view though.

Visitor Center has move up where we can see the lower light on the right of the screen.

I'd still like to see it moved up a little more so we can see all of that signal and to the right so we can see the signal for track 1.

Strange happenings just now on the webcam- two UP trains, one EB and one WB, both stopped on the diamond.  The engines on the WB had just barely made it across; now they're moving again.  EB still stopped.

EDIT:  EB now moving again as well.  WB was a short local.  I wonder if the signals for both dropped out on them as they approached the diamond?  The EB was moving pretty fast as it started to cross, but it sure stopped in a hurry.

Where did you store the image?

I didn't.  That's the basic problem.  I was hoping to get away with just copying and pasting as I can with some other blog managers.  Didn't work.  Dunce

Semper Vaporo:

Just tried your PrtScr, paste to Paint, edit, copy, paste to post method and it worked perfectly (of course).  The image below is the result.  I didn't really know what I was grabbing; I was doing something else, heard a Diesel approaching, double clicked the web cam window, and punched the PrtScr key.  Even so, it looks like I got something that's a bit rare these days; a single unit hauling containers -- must be a transfer move to Global III.  Wish I had gotten the 5 units on a WB BNSF stack train a few minutes before.

Interestingly enough, Preview Post shows an empty post!  I could understand it not including the image but there's no text either.

++++++++++++++++

So much for "worked perfectly".  The image simply disappeared.

USCGR Tom

I wonder if someone that cleaned/wiped spider webs away from the lens may have shifted the camera angle down some. Maybe it can be pushed upward back to the previous angle.

Tom Allen, VA

That's very likely what happened.  But I see that our resident spider is busily providing another opportunity to readjust the wed cam's aim.

Just saw an eastbound UP double stack with n "aero" design I hadn't seen before. The rear 3/4ths had the cross section of a conventional container while the front 1/4 had the roof and sides tapered to a short chisel point on the centered lower portion

Nope, they're always lit.  I suspect UP (or Homeland Security) doesn't want us to see the signals.

Agree the view has moved. I would also like to get a view of the UP signals. I have raised this issue with the people who manage the camera and they are reluctant to reduce the view of the BNSF facilities, but how about a change for just a month say and then restore to the current view. I have noticed the red light out while a BNSF train was crossing the diamond. The only explanation I have for that is approach lighting for the UP signals.
