Edit: Freezing problem seems to only occur using Internet Explorer... I had the video open in both IE-11 and Edge in winders 10 and IE keeps freezing but Edge does not.

Very interesting.  About six months ago, I had the same problem in the opposite direction: it would freeze in Edge but not IE-11.   When MS took away my access to IE-11, you helped me get it back.   They apparently fixed Edge, and I haven't needed to use IE-11.   Maybe they put the bugs from Edge into IE-11.

   Wonders of modern technology!

Unfortunately, the picture freezes about a minute after opening the page.  But I can only tell that because the little girl there is hopping around and get froze in mid-hop... the two adults are both on their cell phones (one talking and the other texting) and thus are hardly moving.

Not much happening here for quite awhile. Everybody too busy with summer activities I guess. I look in on the rail cam once or twice a day, & its been quite awhile since I've seen anyone in the rail park either. It hasn't been shut down, has it?

Just saw a WB BNSF intermodal train clear the diamonds at 1329 CDT, and it raised an interesting question that can be answered hear or maybe it needs its' own thread.

There was a 5 unit spine car with only two 20' pup trailers on it, one at each end. This is the second time in three days I have seen something like this. Who bears the cost for the wasted space, the shipper, the car leasing company, or the RR? Somebody has got to be losing money somewhere.

Bruce

You can only load the traffic you have on the cars that are available.  Wasted space is part of the cost of doing business.  There are rules on how cars must be loaded - the specific content of those rules I am not familiar with.

Could be the other way 'round... maybe they were having to move the 5 unit spine car to someplace that needs it and found 2 containers to go along with it, thus making revenue as back-haul on an otherwise no revenue equipment redistribution.

Nice flooding this morning on the webcam.  I wonder how much rain they got?  The weather map shows heavy rain all morning right over Rochelle.  The water was up to the bench seats near the firepit; I figure that's almost 2 feet of water.

Fire pit still seems water logged.

...

Like that UP business car train that went to NJ? When is that thing expected back, and where will it be routed through?

Bruce

It came through Rochelle on Tuesday about 2:00 pm on Track 2 (closest tlo the cam, so no other train to block it unlike the eastbound trip) Of course it was a going away shot so not as impressive.

I was thinking the same thing.

What I was wondering though is, are they expecting something in particular?

Somethings up on UP. A Mixed Consist train just cleared the diamonds EB with what I think were two five unit well cars loaded with double-stacks. I wonder what the story behind that is?

Bruce

Nothing is up. That happens all the time.

If one lives on the 'other side' of the International Date Line, you need to work night shift to see the daylight view.

How about some way to replay the daylight images?

What's on the "line-up" for passenger trains this afternoon?

People in the know will get the part in quotes, and what is the modern name for such a thing. MOW forces would still need to know.

Suprised the Deshler, OH diamonds were not replaced over the weekend.

The 4th is more of a shut down than Memorial Day.  Of course financial decisions can affect various projects.  Doing the replacement on Memorial Day weekend would put those costs into the 2nd Quarter.  Doing it the 4th of July weekend will put the costs into the 3rd Quarter.  Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

Amtrak eastbound (Zephyr?) just rolled through with UP power. Something wrong on BNSF?

Edit: Never mind. Just read the earlier discussion regarding derailment in Iowa.

Cal Zepnyr #5 came through with UP power on the point at 4:42 CDT.  Second Amtrak unit under power, or at least smoking like a Dash-9.

It looks like today's #5 is likely to hit Rochelle a little after 4:00 PM CDT.  At 3:30 CDT Amtrak is showing it at West Chicago, previous update ten minutes before was showing it at Wheaton, so it is making progress.

On the other hand #6 is still near Missouri Valley according to the status map, but at least they're now showing some speed (50 mph).

Deggesty

I just checked on #5's expected arrival in Denver--it is expected to be 7 hours late.

Amtrak still has no information as to when #6 is expected in Chicago.

Last night I saw #5 come through La Plata MO on the webcam there, coupled back-to-back with #3 leading.  Quite a parade, to say the least.  I wonder if the #5 engines were supplying HEP to their cars or if it was all coming from #3's units.

In my mind, I see an Amtrak manager in Chicago (who maybe looks like Lloyd Bridges) saying, "I picked the wrong week to stop smoking/drinking/etc."

Yeah, that's going to take at least a couple of days to clean up.  Not many cars apparently derailed but they couldn't have chosen a worse place to go on the ground.  Murphy's Law strikes again!
