If it was, they weren't actively working the rails, as there were no sparks flying. Unfortunately I didn't have the sound up at the time.

Just caught AMTRAK through Rochelle, crossed the diamonds at 16.14, Cans from Global 3 was on track 2, so just caught a glimpse of the lead engine UP, and AMTRAk behind it. Only picture I got with snipper.

Trains, can't get my photo to post, it's there before I submitted, but it doesn't come through after that.
Nice catch!!!
Question re a scenario occurring currently, as viewed from the camera and via ATCS- why would a mixed manifest be entering Global III?
Did anyone else just see THAT!?!
A unit train of short white covered hoppers just cleared the diamonds WB at 1557 CDT, on the near UP track.
There were two BNSF units and a CSX unit on the point. THERE WAS NO UP LEADER. How is such a thing even possible? There were two more BNSF units bringing up the rear.
This flooding is causing all kinds of mayhem.

Read up on the other flood-related threads, Bruce- they will explain all.
Thanks for the heads-up, I will get on that.
Why does Trains try to get me to subscribe when I go to the Rochelle webcam ... a site I can only reach because I am a subscriber? What a waste!
They might at least advertise subscriptions to Classic Trains or Model Railroader. (Of course, I already subscribe to both of those, too.)

You do not have to subscribe to the magazines to get access to the Rochelle webcam... you just have to be a member of the forum.

This flood detouring is creating all kinds of new situations.
At about 1335 CDT three big BNSF six axle units pulled a train of short white covered hoppers west into the spur line heading toward the UP line. There was someone on the ground checking things out before he headed into the spur, and then he left in a SUV in a hurry, presumably down to the crossing just west of the trees. The train stopped again at that point for a minute or so and then started up again.
Now he has pulled farther in and as of 1401 is stopped again. The back of the train still on the BNSF mainline, and still blocking the crossing.
Well, we may have just had our first Distributed Power train over the spur.
Two DPU's on the back end just cleared the switch and headed out of sight at 1458.
Watched a WB BNSF stack train. Train had a number of Hyundai mechanical refrigerated containers. I am wondering what size fuel tank they have and how long that fuel tank is expected to keep the refrigeration unit operating? Between ocean and rail transportation I would expect the transit times in some cases to up to a month in duration.

Watched a show where they plugged in the units while on the ship.
I was wondering if the interlocking plant at Rochelle is remote controlled by either railroad or just approach controlled (first come first served automatically).
Sent you a msg a few mins ago, but don't know if it went anywhere, so, I'll just wait for a replay and check back later.
It's automatic.
10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...
traisessive1 It's automatic.
Thank you so much for the reply. I've been watching the webcam for better than a year, but never knew how to participate in the discussions until lately. As a matter of fact you're my first discussion. How are the tracks designated; which are E-W or N-S?
IC DispatcherHow are the tracks designated; which are E-W or N-S?
I believe both roads' trackage at this point are E-W (by timetable, if not by compass) and are numbered conventionally. That is, the EB tracks are #2 and the WB are #1.
Notice I said, "I believe". Someone with more definite knowledge may want to correct me on this.
And, BTW, to the forum.
Please forget Eastbound and Westbound tracks at this point. Both lines have Centralized Traffic Control; directional operation is, for all intents and purposes, meaningless. On the UP, pairs of tracks running east-west are numbered north-south. Thus the track farther from the camera is Track 1. I'm pretty sure the same holds for BNSF [meaning that the near track is Track 1]; if not; expect to see a correction soon.

Both tracks on both railroads are bi-directional- from the camera vantage point, the right track on either RR is #1 and the left track is #2.
EDIT: Oops, didn't see Carl's reply. Got it right, though...
Once you get outside Rochelle, BNSF is single track - the double track through the diamond is essentially part of a long passing siding.

Both roads are governed by GCOR. Just like Carl said, on east/west subdivisions the northernmost track is #1.
If the UP line was still current of track/directional traffic, #1 would've been the eastbound main here.

While the tracks are bi-directional now - the customer sidings and leads were installed (for the most part) when the tracks were operated with current of traffic signalling systems - with this being the case, line of road locals and road switchers that serve these customers must be on the proper track.

And Track 2, nearer the webcam, would have been (and is still typically) eastbound with Track 1, further from the webcam westbound . . . which is what I said in the first place.
google earth did these photos in 2007, it shows tracks 1 UP, joined with track 1 BNSF, anyone know when it was removed?last photo shows the track starting to merge with the BNSF.
