It isn’t every day that the job title changes.  This week it went from, what I absolutely loved doing, a C-17 Aircraft Maintenance Flightline Avionics Craftsman, to what I know I want to do as a full time C-17 Flying Crew Chief.  The last two years flying in a part time position to get the feel, learn some tricks, go to the school house down at Charleston, and the behind the scenes help from other FCCs have humbled me and I am quite thankful for it on this Thanksgiving weekend.  Now it is time to pull them belts up tight and boogity boogity boogity lets go flyin’ boys!

We need to adjust some "facets", but yeah, I think the coach is a good coach.  Even his temperment is ok with most fans.  Only some that don't like it.  And the fans always protect the players!  They are most generally a really great group of young men.

True, Joe. THE GAME is on CBS at 3:30, Eastern Time.

Florida's game is at noon, on ESPN; Georgia's is at 3:30, on ABC;  South Carolina's is at 7:00, on ESPN2 (be sure to root for Tom's team, Carolina, though I fear the Tigers may go home wearing warbonnets); Tennessee's and Kentucky's is at 7:00, on ESPNU; the interlopers into the SEC (Texas A&M and Missouri) play at 7:00, on ESPN. Question: will Johnny Football have been pumped back up (he was deflated by the LSU Tigers)?. The only SEC game not on national television is Vanderbilt's game with Wake Forest.

Randy - I am not saying a thing!

Driver found a possum in the backyard.  So now we have Rocky Raccoon sitting on the neighbors roof, a possum named George (Jones?), Juncos that clean the seeds out of the driveway spacers and a leaf-eater named Landlord.

Perfect!

Home for Thanksgiving today, managed to make it to Richfield last night, decided to bed down the truck and take the pickup home for a reset.  Leaving early tomorrow morning for a trip to Alabama, just came from there.....

Had one of those "dirty, but not dirty" moments last night at our shop.  Trailer I picked up in Green Bay has the fairings underneath the box, to cut down on wind resistance.  During my inspection, discovered that some of the bolts holding them together were loose, so had the shop guys tighten things up.  During this, the guy on the outside quipped to the guy under the trailer "bet that's the first time you have ever held the nuts under a skirt......"

You have my permission to groan, but us young guys there had a good laugh......

Have a good Thanksgiving, everyone......

Gorgeous sunny day - almost painful with the snow, though.

Pie is in the oven.  Time for a shower, then I hit the road!

csx has a mess in Willard yard. Hazmat tanker derailed and they had to evacuate the area. Haven't heard any more updates yet. Matt helped with the outside lights. Mamma is checking the ornaments for the tree. Chores to do before bed.

Tree:  are you sure you don't want to snuggle up to a fork and enjoy your dessert @ home?  Maybe go in June for turkey?  You know better than anyone there are way too many turkeys on the road in the first place.

Joe and BC if you have your ears/eyes on:  Saw a Ferromex and an ICE City of Everly motors!  Dan has his dead deer  & this is a first for an ICE for me!  Thumbs Up Now we are both pleased!

9 above @ 7 am.  Now 34 and a stiff south breeze.  Wind of summer with ice cubes in it!

Mookie

Over the river and thru the - WOW!  That's a mess east of Joe!

Not much better here in my neck of the woods.  Had to attend a meeting, or I'd have stayed right here at home.  It's a wet, sloppy snow, so the roads are a mess, even though the plow crews are out doing their thing.

The meteorological prognosticators are suggesting we may see upwards of a foot of snow here, with other areas getting even more.  Good thing the snowblower is fueled up and ready to go.

Might make the trip to daughter's house on Thursday a little dicey, and I'm bringing dessert....

Update - woke up about 4 AM to dispatches on the scanner for a vehicle into a creek, a couple of low hanging wires, and another accident, all outside our response area.  Snowing pretty good still, and we've gotten at least 4" so far.   The snow is kinda wet, so we will likely have more tree/wire issues.

Back to bed, before we get called out.

Hey - MC didn't bring me cookies!  I did get to meet Boss Hen though.   Wonderful folks.  Wish they'd had more time while they were here, but they had to get on to their next presentation.

I think Boss Hen feels sorry for us cuz we live in Nebraska. Must be a good reason to live here, eh?

Railroading at +10F is so much fun.  Glad I was engineer all weekend and mostly got to sit in a heated cab.  Still, had other stuff to do that put me outside.  And just walking to the locomotive was sometimes a bone-chilling experience.

On the other hand, some 2,200 happy riders enjoyed a trip to the North Pole, a visit with Santa on the train, and hot cocoa and cookies!

Friday, it was in the rain.  Sunday it was in snow so bad that knowing one's territory was absolutely imperitive, as it was really hard to see what was coming up....

I'm pooped.  Time for bed.

You guys have all the fun up there.......

Around 32 here in Dickson, TN, now, was down to 20 when I rolled through the hills of Virginia this morning. Headed to Memphis tomorrow, then hopefully will be pointed towards home for the holiday on Thursday. Looks like I should miss all the fun weather, short on time for tomorrow.......

See everyone later.........

BC - It was so fun!  Even face-to-face, Sir Chicken speaks in cryptic-ese.  But I managed to get a little railroad info out of him.  And Boss Hen was as lovely as ever.  She always leaves a baggie of cookies when they come during the holidays.  What's not to love!  Car ride home always adjusts the number in the baggie!

Can you imagine - they were complaining about the cold in Lincoln being worse than the cold in Denver?  Maybe it was the 15 above and the 78% humidity that was the problem.  We can make a rebar cry.

We were out to church this morning at 12 above.  The forecast mentioned the possibility of snow for the morning, but the skies have been clear and bright so far today.  Still snow for tomorrow, they're saying.

Daughter's family should be in the air by now, headed our way.  This cold air will be quite the experience for our new grandson.  Daughter will welcome a little snow (her annual wintertime fix) before they have to go back to California.  Last month we had a cool (nothing like this!) morning, and the baby really seemed to be enjoying getting out in it.

SJ, those two sure give the lie to poultry not being migratory fowl.  Kudos for stuffing them, but I hope those kitty-claws of yours didn't get too much carving in!

About six hours before I head to (ugh!) O'Hare, for the best possible reason!

Norm - I peeked at the low for Sat here and they say 5 degrees.  But 41 on Monday.  Looks like Denver is pushing heavy snow around - just so they push it into Kansas!

BC - I like carp - out of clean water.  We have a lot of carp in our local waters, along with Nebraska bullheads and Minnesota bullheads.  One has a yellow belly and the other a white.  Maybe someone on here can enlighten us on carp.  When I was old enough to bait a hook, we used to only catch carp and bullheads in city lakes, so we had both on the dinner table.  I always thought they tasted pretty good.

Caught a good-sized flathead one time and we have "blue" cats, but would never attempt to keep either.  If they get that big, they would probably taste like old wood.

Arrrrgggg!!  Why are we being attacked with X-MAS Carp already?

Just don't let those bottom-feeders get to the Great Lakes!  Some people think they're good eatin'!
