morning

chores are done in town.time for bed.Ns had Tonka toys in our siding plus some MOW tool cars. One car had a crane with a retractable claw for picking up ties. I couldn't quite see the writing on the side but I think it said,"mookie approved".

Joe - we watched one working here and I was fascinated.  First because it was on the ground and close enough that I could see it.  But to move those ties around and stack them with great precision.  Yes

Truck's ready for pickup.  Planning to ride the mountain bike up to pick it up (7 miles - easy), if it'll quit raining.  And the radar is OOS, so we're depending on those further out - which don't see the low stuff...

At least I'll be able to get the truck loaded up for the big railfan weekend.  I'm not even there yet, and I already have a list of stuff to do...

I suspect we may see some grey skies and the occasional shower for our railfan weekend.  But they're a hardy lot.  Would be nice if it's dry for the night photo shoot.

Headed for the railroad a little earlier than planned today - they've got a couple of big groups and need some extra help.

Smile, Wink & Grin  Did y'all see the video from Colorado Springs (Mud, got your ears out?) of the bear that was behind a restaurant checking out the dumpsters?  He decided it should be a to go order, so he used his front claws to roll the dumpster off camera.  Maybe he had rolled out a fridge earlier?

Mooks: Saw it, There are 3 videos to that restaurant's bear episode. (Edelweiss has been one of my favorite places since the early 1980's)...Boss Hen got introduced to it early on. The bear has good taste. Ja!

http://www.krdo.com/news/edelweiss-dumpster-diver-bear-hits-social-media/-/417220/21316186/-/q889naz/-/index.html

The last video shows him on night 3 being discouraged by a tack strip. Hope we get some water back up in the hills before Mr. Bear becomes a statistic.

The asparagus barrier out at the border is getting plenty of water. Unfortunately, we are not getting water here, just light and noise. (Da boyz are stuck to BossHen like Velcro during t-storms)

If I was there, I would be velcroed (spell check going nuts!)  to Boss Hen, too!  Between the bears and lightning and thunder.....and I know from experience you are closer to the latter than we are here in flatland!

101 degrees without the heat index….even the little breeze we had in the yard was hot.

I am so looking forward to our “other” season…known here as “not summer”,( we only have two seasons here in the swamp…summer and not summer)….might even welcome some snow around Christmas!

Next two weeks look to be cooler here...lower to mid 70's with so-called heat indexes of..oh...mid 80's at worst.

We have been having quite a few wet days up here though...want some?Confused

Been dropping down to lower 60s here at night.  A few more degrees and it is sweatshirt weather.

Better than that high 70s for a low stuff we were getting a few weeks ago.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Question  Had a freight coming from the east thru the yard, going west.  Had tankers that were marked Tar Oil on the side and a caustic placard.

Any one know?

And - a CSX DC unit.  Thumbs Up

Did I just see a quote from Mr. Blysard saying that he "might welcome" some snow?  Folks, Houston might get some snow, but "welcome" was the last word I'd ever expect Ed to say in that regard!

If Houston gets snow and Ed welcomes it, I'm driving to Michigan to check out the lakes around Hell--they'll definitely have frozen over!

Ok,

Now you guys are just bragging!

Yes Carl, welcome snow…it was 100 today, rained for a few minutes around 1 pm, then went right back to 100 degrees…nothing like watching steam rise out of the ballast to make you think how fun some snow might be!

Go check the lakes…..

Ed, you make me think of the two months that I spent in Baton Rouge in the summer of 1953.  I do not remember how warm it got--but I do remember that after a shower of rain it was hotter than before, for the water that had hit the streets evaporated quickly and there was more moisture in the air than there was before the rain fell.

Good Evening.

Good BBQ, good friends, good beer....what else could one ask for...oh...great sunshiny day!!  :)

BBQ'ed up a few ribeyes with some dry rub mixed in and a whiskey infused BBQ sauce I made up...plus baked potato and grilled veggies as well....lots to be had too!!

Deggesty:  We had something like that a few days ago...in fact a series of them...it kept raining, would stop, up goes humidity, start pouring again...was ridiculous here!!

I probably have that somewhere.  I did swing through there on my was out of town a couple of years ago, but it was in summer.  Only about 40 miles from where I lived.
