Raining here as I type.

Thought we were going to get hammered last night, but all the reds, yellows, and oranges stayed south of us, so all we got was some gentle rain.

Looks like we may be on the northern edge of some heavier weather, but the worst will again stay south of us.

Serving the last hours as fire chief - my successor gets appointed tonight.  I've spent almost 12 years of my 35 years in the fire service wearing a white hat.  But I'm still an active responder.

Congrats on your retirement, again, Tree.  I think you may have at least 2-3-4 more in your future.  But this will free up time for you to fill in with something new.  Keep us posted.  Maybe a decent cruise line?

Well - Kearney NE - west of us about 130 miles - had straight line hurricane winds.  I didn't know NE had hurricanes, but whose to argue with the media.  Tore up UNK pretty well. Library out of commission for finals.  We had a great rain.  At least an inch or maybe a little more and it is still working on something.  It is barely above freezing, so it has been wet up to now.  Omaha had some baseball sized hail.  Something for everyone!  What a State!

We were sleeping with the ceiling fan on until last nite.  Back to flannel nitey.  Shy

The sun is still shining here in Shepherdsville; but about 10, 15 minutes ago, the wind was blowing like crazy.  Had a very good breeze blowing in through the screen in the front door.  But later on tonight, we have the possibility of some rain/thunderstorms, with a small chance of some severe stuff.

Larry, I second Mookie's congratulations on your second retirement!  Will that allow you to go visit kids/grandkids more, along with more volunteer hours on the railroad?

Yes, indeed!  Congratulations, Larry!

I hope this will give you a little more time to head to the Midwest (Mookie's version or mine).

Sir C:  You know that Cincinnati is only about 2 inches from New York.  That makes Colorado the extreme west coast and California is in the ocean.  But I will forgive you - since you are married to Boss Hen!  Kisses

As of about 7:15 tonight, I handed my gold badge over to my successor after he was officially appointed to the position.

He's been my assistant chief for a couple of years,  not to mention having been a member of a couple of other area fire departments, and is pretty much up on everything.  I think he'll do fine.

All that changes response-wise, though, is that I won't usually be in charge.  We do have a rule that the "first key in the door" is in charge until a ranking officer arrives, so I'll still be running a few scenes, and manpower is always an issue during the day.

There is the possibility of a trip further west this year.  I didn't get to Michigan last year, and running on down I-94 to Chicagoland isn't that much of a reach.  Don't know as I'll manage to get all the way to Nebrasky.

Then there's the railroad, which is the real time hog "in season."  I already know I'm going to be in demand as we lost an engineer last year, another moved out of the area, and another will be scaling back.  No rest for the weary...

Plan on being in Syracuse on October 15. If you got to Nebrasky, a whole gaggle of other folks would be trying to get there as well.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Cloudy here in Shepherdsville this morning; around 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., we were getting rain, and at one point, it was pouring buckets.  I could hear it hitting the roof of this mobile home of my brother's.  Could have another round later this afternoon, as the cold front moves in. But at least, the weather guessers aren't predicting anything severe.

Everyone have a good day, take care and keep safe.

Is spring weather going to come to Utah? Our mornings are still chilly (in the forties), and we do ahve some rain, though not enough to make certain we will not have to ration water this summer.

After many years of letting you see a dog, I at last changed my picture. Last week, Katie took a picture of me while we were eating supper, using her cell phone--but it came out on its side. She tried to turn it--and it still came to me on its side. So, I turned to a picture taken last May when I was visiting old school friends in South Carolina.

Next week, Katie and I are going to Bristol, Tenn., to see college classmates, and a few other people--train to Chicago and Memphis, drive across Tennessee and back to Memphis, and then civilized comfort back here.

Johnny, If I had anything to do with the weather, I would send the 70-80 degree temps back your way. (along with the rain that's causing the Spring  Summer Allergy season to kick in Full Force here...ACHOO!EmbarrassedDead    [about 65 degrees here in the Lou. Metro area right now with light to moderate steady rain, with the chance of some severe stuff later this afternoon, evening. Lots of Thunder & Lightening this morning; got about an 1" of rain then, looking at about another 1-1/2" before it's over.]

Hope you all have Safe and Enjoyable trip!

Thanks, Walt. I trust that we will not have to abort the trip as I did last year because of Ricki's death. I had planned to visit one of my school classmates (whom I had not seen since 1954) on the way to Bristol, but had to come back here without visiting. When I mentioned to him the possibility of a trip in May, his sister (the one about a year younger than he; he and his three brothers had only six sisters) invited me to visit her in Florence, S.C., and a cousin of theirs (the sister of my best friend; she graduated the year before I did) and a classmate of mine, who lived on the other side of the street from my grandparents (I discovered, a few years ago, that she is a fourth cousin of mine) drove over from Columbia, and we had a wonderful afternoon together. One of the three took several pictures of us, and I am now using the one of me by myself.

Well, I hope you can clean it up yourself and don't have to pay to have it done.  And I hope your neighbor's garage is safe.  Last year a tree limb landed on my garden shed and broke a hold in the roof.  With a piece of corrugated fiberglass I got from my son I was able to repair it.

Minor icing here - we appear to have been on the southern edge.  Only a couple of "tree/wire" calls through the day around the county.

Still awfully wet, though.  A lot of streams are running pretty full, and many low-lying areas are about as full as they can get.

Took portable sawmill to work on them....now we got ~230 board feet of poplar wood to muck around with....

Total aside - there was a fellow at the outdoor show here last month who was selling pens he'd made.  Not bad.

Good evening to everyone.  Had a very enjoyable day today:  my brother & I went to his grandson's first tee ball game of the year, and his team won, 11 to 8.  Those little ones were sooo cute.  After they won, had shook hands w/the opposing team, they got cupcakes.

Have our Saturday Night Pizza Fest ready and on the warmer bar.  Hope you all enjoy it; have a good evening, take care and keep safe.

OH:  Johnny, like your new avatar!  That's a very good picture of you.  And hope you and Katie have a safe trip.

Thanks, Paula. If I had really thought about it, I could have made the change last year; I had thought people might be tired of looking at a dog. As to sideways pictures, a cousin I did not know I had until about a week ago, in Lancaster county, Virginia (where my father was born), sent me several pictures of family tombstones, asking for information; she had taken them with her I-Pad, and they were also turned sideways. Perhaps these new-fangled devices just can't get it right when it comes to transmitting pictures by e-mail.

One question she had concerned a cross at the top of my grandfather's stone. I was able to tell her that it meant that he was a Confederate soldier (he was born in 1842), and I then remembered that when I was in the fourth grade, my class brought more flowers to school on Memorial Day than any other grammar school class, and we had the honor of taking all of the grammar school flowers to the cemetary (about a mile each way; the excursion seemed to take forever), and placing them on Confederate soldiers' graves. There was a separate competition for the high school (grades 7-12).

Monday morning, Katie and I expect to leave at 3:30--when we board, we will head for our bedroom and get into our berths as quickly as we can.
