Peace be with you. 79 degrees and sunny in Carolina with a nice breeze which makes it quite nice outside.

They caught an incoming freshmen at USC with 5 handguns, ammo and brass nux in his dorm room'. Must be some sort of record: arrive, get busted and expelled in less than a week! It was in my old dorm, which was about to fall down 40 years ago. They've obviously done some shoring up since then.

Everyone take care and have a great weekend

Good Saturday morning all.  71 degrees here in Louisville this morning, and going for an August-like day, with a high of 93 degrees; could go even higher, according to the morning weather report.

Tom, anything new happening in your neck of the woods this morning?

Mookie, have you recovered from your outing yesterday?

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the breakfast/warmer bar:

bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, biscuits, sausage gravy, grits, pancakes

Everyone enjoy your day, and I'll see you all this evening for our pizza fest.

Peace be with you. 71 and clear in Carolina this evening. Temp is expected to bottom out at 64 and expecting thunder tomorrow.

In local news, the Town of Timmonsville near here recently declared bankruptcy and with the exception of utilities workers, fired the entire workforce including admininstrators and police. The county sherrifs office is doing law enforcement for them. Night before last, someone broke into the police department and cleaned out the armory! There are no suspects yet.

About all for now. Everyone have a great weekend.'

Been out all day - will be in all nite!

We found a real insult.  We were driving from the east side of town toward home (about 60 blocks away) and went thru a cloud-burst!  We almost had to pull over it was so heavy.  Then went about 6 blocks and drove out of it into dry.....

I will have a hot dog with the "works" and go sulk in the corner.

Afternoon all.  Joe, you must have read my mind, for our menu for this afternoon and tonight.  I thought that maybe everyone might be getting tired of our usual Friday fare, so I was wondering what to do for tonight.  You figured it out for me!  So here is our menu:

Fired up the grills and here is our menu:

1.  Hot dogs

2.  Hamburgers (and cheeseburgers)

3.  Potato chips

4.  Fried chicken drumsticks (seems like that's a good thing to have for tailgating)

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all in the morning.

Clear and dry here....Started out at 60 degrees, but it's warming up pretty good now.

About ready to head out to lunch.  A quiet day to this point.

Last week at this time I was heading across Ohio.  Good trip.

Wish a good weekend for all here...

Good Friday morning all.  Sorry about not getting back in yesterday:  just seemed to be quite busy around here for a Thursday.  Starting out at 68 degrees this morning, going for a high of 93, with no rain until late Sunday afternoon through Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Randy, glad to see you could drop in last night!  Just take care out there on the highways/interstates.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is also ready and on the breakfast/warmer bar.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, keep hydrated and see you all later.

Evening everyone....

Busy week here again, will have to do a reset on my hours by Sunday if this keeps up, running hard again. Truck is running good, if you can call 7+ mpg loaded good, lot better than the last one....

One nice thing, the checks sure look good. Well, off to the sleeper, busy day again tomorrow in Texas....

Not cleaning, as such, but pressure washing the siding in preparation for staining, then applying the stain.

Unless the house has been re-sided since it was built (and that doesn't look to be the case), the siding may date back to when the house was built, which may have been as early as 1840.

I probably should strip it and re-side with something more modern, but I'm hoping this round of strip and paint/stain will last till I'm out of here.  Although I have no idea when that will be.

Just finished up my bucket of paint on the front of the house - atop the sun porch, in the sun.  Plenty warm up there!

Gotta get ready for the railroad this weekend, too.

Q - so glad to have you back home!  Did your Doxy survive your absence ok?

Jen....survive yes.  I'm sure she doesn't take too kind to that different kind of life.  She is too pampered here at home....lives like humans do.

She wanted to squeal so bad when I picted her up late Monday afternoon, that nothing came out....She generally does so about high "C", but she was trying to beat that....or maybe I just couldn't hear it.

But it was a very nice lady that took care of her, and overall, I'd say it  was just fine.

The lady {works at the Vet / Kennel}, knows how to handle pups, as she told me to pick her up and hand Ella to her when I arrived so she {Ella}, would "know" it was ok for her to have Ella...etc.....

And thank you for caring.  I did ok on the trip...without having Jean with me....Perhaps the Lord is showing me how to continue on.....

Good Thursday morning all.  It looks like another beautiful day, but getting warmer and warmer (back to August time weather for us).  Come to find out, we were under an air quality alert yesterday.  When I took my walk yesterday afternoon, didn't really feel that bad out, just very warm.  Still under the alert for today as well, and supposed to get into the low 90s today thru Monday, Tuesday.

Joe, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning!  I really do appreciate all the help you guys give around here.

My church that I'm now attending is hosting another church this Sunday, so I'll be in my kitchen Saturday, baking oatmeal cookies to take to the dinner we'll have following the church service.  Think I'm going to add some walnuts to the oatmeal batter, and have oatmeal/walnut cookies.  And the walnuts are the black walnuts.  To me, they have the best flavor.

Everyone have a good day, enjoy, keep as cool as possible, and remember to stay hydrated.  See you all later.

Paula, I'm back....Thanks for caring.  The run went very well.  Weather was no problem.....car worked perfect.....Of course gas was expensive, but my "wheels" really does not hog fuel....does quite well.  {Actually, looked at the computer several times and "it" was telling me we were running at or near 30 mph.  That's good enough for me.

Visited friends...and several different places.....one being my favorite Spaghetti place back there..."Lamonica's"....actually visited that twice.

Did see one accident...Well, actually couldn't "see" the actual vehicle, as it was in a corn field {only about 30 mi. on a state road from home....But reading in my paper this evening for that day...Last Friday...it was a lady in a late model Caddy and she took a pole off too.  Car didn't look bad in the front...possibly she may have skidded and hit the back to the pole...??

Got home safe and sound and no problems...Grass sure needed mowed....

AgentKid

Good evening.

I haven't been by for pizza in a while so I thought I would check in. Seems like I have been busy for a while now, but nothing to much to show for it.

82° and sunny now. It has been a fairly good summer weather wise, with our usual ups and downs. We have had enough rain to keep things looking green. We had two nasty hailstorms earlier in the week. There is a cloud seeding outfit that does a pretty good job of preventing bad hailstorms, but they didn't get out in time to stop these last two. Fortunately my building wasn't damaged.

Mom's house has been cleaned out with one notable exception. Back in the early '80's my parents bought a bookcase/TV stand in a kit form, and Dad put it together in the living room. Well, it turns out this thing was made out of real wood, not particle board, with a mirrored back and now we can't move it! At least not by conventional means. It looks like we will have to hire a piano mover, and that is a problem, as we don't know where it is going. None of us want it, as it is deigned for old tube type TV's. My brother, who is a civil engineer, thinks this whole thing is quite funny.

The papers to sell the house were signed this morning, so that thing has to go somewhere.

There has been no recent RR news.

Bruce

Bruce, you are going through what I expect to have to go through in the near future, except it is my own house that needs to be cleaned out, as it will be easier for my daughters to keep up with me if I  move closer to them. Two are cabinets I built out of plywood and ripped two by fours to hold the sound system and some of our records and to have the television set sit on top. The third one is a substantial 3' x 7' desk I built for Ricki which I cannot imagine anyone else would want. It also has a combined bookshelf (on one side) and custom-made arrangement to suit Ricki's needs (on the other side) that runs the full length of the desk.  The legs of this desk are made of four by fours.

Today, I was at last able to get back to the Trains forums, and I have much to catch up with, especially since I stopped receiving emails of the threads I am interested in.

I do not think much of the changes.

Greetings all!

I really hate the new look of the forum. Hard to navigate. How do i get to the latest posts here in the cafe?

Warm here in the Hoosier State. In the upper 80*. Maybe some railfanning in the near future.

Best,

Must be "clean" day.  I cleaned out our coat/what's in all those boxes/sacks closet today.  Have a lot to donate and didn't even do the whole closet.

Will get rest when I pull down all the Xmas decorations and sort thru them.  Want to end up with one box.  Easy decorating is my plan!

Sunny and 95 today.  Still no rain.  On water restrictions - you can water on your day, but if it goes in the street or on the sidewalks, the police come out and tie your hose in a knot Oops

Actually, there can be a $100 fine!  Wonder if they need help counting the $$$$......Mischief

Believe it or not, between 2 and 2:30, 2:45, we got about 1/2 in. of rain!  I came out of the grocery store, and it was literally pouring.  While I was waiting for it to let up, so I could go on to the bus stop, a couple of my friends from Produce came out.  They told me to come on with them, and they'd bring me home.  So I was very lucky today:  got a ride up there, from my friends who manage the Dare to Care program at our church, and then two more friends give me a ride back home.

Bob, glad to have you in.  Hope we see more of you!!

Here is the menu for tonight:

1.  Grilled steaks w/baked taters, garden salad and corn on the cob

2.  Tuna noodle casserole w/garden salad

Produce went fairly well this morning:  truck arrived at 8:23.  They unloaded:  carrots, corn, sweet potatoes, pears and red bananas.  With the kids back in school, we only had 43 people today.  So I was back home by 9:30.

Everyne have a good evening,  take care, and see you all later or in the morning.

College around here is getting underway now (raises Cain with the seasonal businesses - a lot of their help is leaving).  Public schools will kick off right after Labor Day.

Making progress on painting the house.  Sometimes it just seems like too much bother to get everything out, but I've gotta do it.  Tough part is the trim, as I need to take it to bare wood so the semi-transparent stain will look good.  Gets pretty slow.

Back to work.

Thanks for the email Paula. It has been quite a while since I checked in. Our train watching has tapered off quite a bit. We spent a Saturday in Kansas City a while back,  watching trains and sight seeing. So many of the fountains there are spectacular. I had entered about 50 into my GPS before the trip.
Our little corner of Illinois has been spared the extreme drought this year. Last month in Wisconsin we saw corn that was only about a foot tall. I'm sure they won't get a crop.

Good Tuesday morning all.  64 cool degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Forgot what we're supposed to make it to today.  Buses are getting ready to leave the bus compounds and start picking up the kids.  I'm kind of thinking the Produce truck won't be showing up at 7:55 8:00 or 8:15 this morning, due to the extra traffic with all the school buses running.  Also imagine I won't have as many people show up this morning, cause Moms and Grandmas will be getting the kids off to school.

Justin, glad to see you could drop by and say hello to us!!  Good grief, you're a junior in high school already?!?!?!  Where does time go??

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the  breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  Oatmeal, bacon,  sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, biscuits & gravy.  Or, there are several boxes of cereal out on the counter, and we have plenty of milk in the fridge, if anyone just wants a bowl of cereal.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and I'll see you all sometime this afternoon.
