Quentin, hope Jean is doing at least a little bit better this afternoon. Will definitely keep up the thoughts and prayers for you and Jean!

We actually got a record low this morning for this date, as we got down to 59, 60 degrees this morning.  I actually put on a lightweight jacket to go to Produce this morning.  And it was very chilly out this morning, as there was a darn good breeze blowing.  Everyone else was mentioning how chilly it was, and I was the only one who had come prepared for our chilly, breezy morning.  After we waited for an hour and a half, without any sign of the Produce truck, the lady in charge finally got someone to answer the phone at Dare to Care:  Neither truck would be coming today, as they were "closed, doing inventory".  I made the comment that they should have called the centers yesterday, to let them know that there would not be any Produce or Bread Truck deliveries today.  Oh well,  "such is life in the big city", right?

Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now under way, with everything on the warmer bar/serving station:

1.  Tacos (soft and hard shells)

2.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef enchilada style)

3.  Chimichangas

4.  Fajitas

5.  Mesquite grilled T-bone, rib eye and porterhouse steaks, bone-in pork chops and chicken

6.  Spanish rice

And, of course, we have the tortilla chips with whatever sauce you wish:  picante, salsa, con queso.

Hope you are all enjoying this cooler, less humid day.  Everyone take care and see you all later.

Afternoon Railfans!

Have I mentioned recently that it's HOT and DRY here? Sigh

Well, we have begin breaking Record Highs for several days now as well as hit the highest temperature in June in recorded history.  If we make 100 on Tuesday we will also hit the record for most 100+ days in a row which should happen in June.  Talk to a local Police Officer yesterday and he said the heat is definitely having an impact on the public as folks are running on short fuses just because they are miserable from the heat.

Lots and lots of fires burning, we had one start yesterday that got 100% contained today but in that 24 hours in blew up to 45,000 areas (4th largest in history) and sadly took out 4 homes along with other structures.

The beast up near Ft. Collins is now 87,250 acres and growing and has now wiped out 257 homes.  Seems like most of the US Fire Fighting forces have come here now that others states and the Feds can spare and it just won't die.

Good morning fine friends on the forum.   We certainly do appreciate all the words, and especially the Prayers.  Keep it up, maybe we can win this one yet.....

First morning I opened some windows for weeks.  Cooler today, but like Paula said....the heat is headed this way....even to be near the century mark by Thursday.

Getting ready to head to our fine I U Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Until later.....

Good Tuesday morning all.  64 degrees here in Louisville at 5:36 a.m.  A half hour ago, we had 65 degrees.  High today should be around 82 degrees.  Then the heat and 100 degree temps come in Thursday on.  Still no rain in sight for us.

Quentin, so very sorry to hear about Jean's setback.  You all hang in there, and I'll be praying for Jean's returning to better health, and for you.

Coffee, juice and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready and on the breakfast bar.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all later this afternoon.

....Thank you, to many fine forum friends.  I certainly do appreciate the Prayers and good words for us.

This was not a good day for Jean.  Since the vent / breathing tube was removed yesterday morning the fluid / oxygen situation has been an increasing problem.

Lasic {Sp?}, has been removing lots of fluid from her body, etc., but her oxygen numbers were not good enough this afternoon.....had to add too much.

So I've received a call since I've been home this evening that the team has decided to reinstall the vent / breathing tube to supply oxygen and I believe they intend to continue this evening with the increase in the amount of Lasix.

So, Prayer is certainly needed, and we appreciate all that have been coming from many fine people.

Not quite as hot here today, and there is a slight breeze blowing outside.  No chance of rain for us, at least for the rest of the week, if my memory is serving me correctly, from what I heard this morning.

Quentin, glad to hear that Jean is on the mend.  Hoping and praying that she continues to improve daily.

Not going to be much for lunch/supper tonight; just seem too tired today to get much accomplished.  So here is our menu for the rest of the afternoon:

Hamburgers or cheeseburgers from the grill, with fries, garden salad, and we even have some fresh slicing tomatoes that can be put on your burgers, or simply put on your plate and add salt, pepper, sugar, or whatever you like to put on them.

DESSERTS:  Any flavor ice cream you'd like from the deep freezer, including ice cream sandwiches, ice pops, ice cream Snickers, etc.

Hope you are all taking care, keeping hydrated, staying as cool as possible.  See you all in the morning.

It's Monday again Railfans...

It's been 100+ now for a few days with more coming which is 15+ above normal.  Water levels are so low that commercial rafting in the Yampa River is shutdown.  We now have 12 major fires burning here in Colorado causing historical damage; ~300 homes lost so far

Nice weekend on the railroad, more or less.

Spent Saturday in the engineers seat.  Sunday I was the conductor, but I had a student, so I let him do everything...

On the way back in to the station on our first trip Saturday, I saw some interesting clouds.  As I was running at the time, I couldn't stop and look more closely, or take pictures, but I'm pretty sure I saw a wall cloud.

As we arrived at the station, we were met by a cloudburst, wind, and pea-sized hail.  After thoroughly soaking the flagman at the crossing, we pulled into the station - and most of the passengers stayed on the train until the rain let up.  Can't say as I blame them...

Sunday was much drier - the rain didn't start until we parked the train at the end of the day.

Cloudy today - but not much rain in the forecast.  The petunias are looking pretty good...

Joe - happy belated birthday.

Quentin - sounds like progress.  My thoughts are with you.

.....A nice morning to start the week.  Expect temps in lower 80's today.  That's welcome.  But later in the week, here comes some extreme heat again.

Jean..............Yesterday, breathing / vent tube removed, but ox. problems in the afternoon.....EKG and C T scan tests run to  check heart and to see if any blood clots in lung....Both tests: EKG, similar to April..{Good}.........C T, no blood clot in lung.  Of course good.

Hoping for a better day today.

Prayers welcome.  Thanks.

Good Monday morning all.  Temp around 73, 74 degrees this morning, going to the mid to upper 80s this afternoon.  Believe tomorrow is to be our "cool" day, with a high around 84 degrees.  Have heard a couple of forecasters say we may see 100 degree temps by the weekend (and that's actual temp, not heat index).

Coffee, juice, Gatorade, lemonade, iced tea (sweet & unsweet) , hot water for hot tea and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  The breakfast bar is also ready to go, with plenty of things for you to choose from for your breakfast.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

Haven't smelled any singed feathers yet....altho the heat may get my favorite chicken!

I had to do a road trip today and go to the hardware store.  I have a PHD in (ahem) the best seat in the bathroom, which I got when I was a single mother for many years..  So armed with all my learnings, I went and got a new "seat".

Now I am going to attempt to put it on the throne.

And while on my road trip home, I stopped by the tracks for about 20 min.  Do you know that trackside is not air conditioned!  Millie is, but didn't want to waste the air, so sat with all 4 windows down and about croaked.  Mah really cute pink glisten band worked great.  Saw an EB coal and a WB MT.  WB was $$$$ train - all BNSF gons.

Looks like FL and surrounding area might get a little rain and wind?

Off to work mah magic!

On my wanderings today saw the Waldo Canyon fire come over the hill and start down to Manitou/Colorado Springs. Much more dramatic to the general public than Ft Collins/ High Park. None are good. Air Force Academy field is staging water bombers and the Air Force is now sending 4 C-130's converted to water bombers to help. If the Colorado Midland/ Midland Terminal were still around, they would have lost Manitou to Woodland Park.

They are cutting winter wheat on the prairie ASAP before it burns in a prairie range fire.

Dry thunderstorms and 102 outside the house right now.

My, what a looooooong day I've had:  up at 5 this morning, showered, washed hair, fed indoor cats, fixed myself some breakfast, got ready for Church, went with the lady to pick up everyone (and found out we were attending a different Church today).  Finally got home just before 2 p.m., found Sarah getting ready to leave for work, and Walt out riding his bike.  Took a nap after he got home, washed Sarah's breakfast dishes, fixed Walt's and my supper.  I'm just about ready for night-night, and it's not even 8 p.m. yet.  Speaking of supper, here is what we have on the warmer bar:

Italian spaghetti w/garden salad and your choice of garlic Texas toast or baked Italian bread.

Dessert:  Raspberry cheese cake, chocolate brownies w/nuts, ice cream and yellow cake w/chocolate icing.

The last weather report I heard was on the 6:30 local news, and I believe they said our high today was 97 degrees.  Did not hear the heat index, but believe me, it was really hot when we came out of Church, after eating lunch.  Our Church van must be low on 'freon', as it was definitely not cool in the van, either this morning, or this afternoon coming home.  So the a/c went off, and we had all windows open.

Hope you all have had a good day, take care, and see you all in the morning.

Afternoon everyone.

61° and partly cloudy again today. We have had some brief but intense rain over the last day or so, but nothing like what is happening west of us.

There has been serious rain and flooding west of Revelstoke and over past Sicamous, BC. The CP website reported rocks, trees, and other debris falling onto the mainline in some places, and in others flooding is washing out the roadbed under the tracks. The latest I saw said they were hoping to have the line opened soon.

But I also see that there are severe storm warnings with the possibility of tornadoes for the SE of Alberta and the SW of Saskatchewan. So there is a lot of bad weather around us.

Quentin, I hope Jean continues to show progress.

Hello Railfans...

We hit 104F yesterday and they say we will be over 100F again today...

Fires are breaking containment as well as more started.  Several more homes have been lost all over the state as Colorado burns.  It's a sad weekend here for lots of folks...

We'll be heading to the hospital soon.

Today, we're to have another hot one, than I understand we're to have some lower temps this coming week.

My lawn is turning "dry"....Hasn't been like that for some years...No rain here for weeks.  I believe some is possible later today....so they say.

Good Sunday morning all.  Quentin, I like the sound of  the doctor's statement to Jean!  That sounds very good, indeed!

Barry, yes, I'm glad that I was inside the store, and not out on the parking lot:   they'd probably have called an ambulance, and I wouldn't have gotten what little shopping that needed to be done, done.  And I still have that bottle of water, with just a little bit of water left in it.  It's in the fridge, staying cool (on the way home from the grocery, I have one of those insulated shopping bags, and in between sips, it was kept in that bag to stay cold.

Mudchicken, keep as cool as you can:  you have about the hottest job I can think of, along with firefighters, who are out in the heat a lot, along with our other railroad workers, who are out in the heat, by the steel rails.  Bet they don't get much relieve even after the sun goes down.

Coffee, juices, Gatorade, lemonade, iced tea, milk are all fresh, cold and ready to go.  On the breakfast bar this morning:  bacon, eggs, toast, homemade cinnamon rolls and blueberry muffins.

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to work, Church, or wherever else you have to go this morning, and I'll see you all later this afternoon.  We're supposed to have temps in the mid to upper 80s by noontime, and at least 93 degrees by 4.  So it is going to another  hot one out there today.  And yes, with our humidity, going to probably feel like it is in the 100s.
