Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Wow!  What a day we had yesterday.  After the deluge of rain stopped, Walt poured out 3.1 inches of water from our rain gauge; some areas got up to 4 inches.  But around the main U of L campus, they recorded 5 to 7 inches in some of the  buildings, and most of the streets in and around the campus was closed due to high water, and cars stuck in all that water.

After I finally got home from Produce at 11:45, I got myself a little something to eat, and fell asleep for about 2 and a half hours.   Was literally exhausted.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer/cooler bar, including some fresh watermelon that I brought home from Produce yesterday.

Promise you all that I will make it back in this afternoon, after I get back home from our next to last VBS planning meeting.  Not sure if we'll start setting things up today, but know we'll definitely be working   our behinds off Saturday, after we get through through with the special class:  going to be over that all day Saturday.

I have at last caught up with all my email that came while I was on a fifteen day trip to cover what I had missed on my shortened trip last month. I packed hurredly, and did not put the power supply for my laptop into the laptop case--so I was not able to make much use of the computer.

My trip was certainly not as long as Carl's and Pat's (reported on the Trackside Lounge), but it was refreshing, both by rail (Salt Lake-Chicago-Washington-Atlanta (rent a car)-New Orleans-Chicago-Salt Lake) and by car. My niece and her husband drove up from Orange Park, Florida and spent the night in Macon, Georgia, so I would not have to drive down to see them. I visited a seminary classmate in Savannah, and then saw several people in South Carolina (Tom and his wife were not feeling good, so I did not see them). In Florence, I visited the sister of one of my 4th-12th grade classmates, and two other friends drove over from Columbia to see me.; we had a pleasant time during lunch and most of the afternoon. Then, it was off to my home county, to eat lunch with the classmate and his wife. I had missed my college alumni gathering, but I had hoped to see my history professor (the only remaining faculty/administration member from my time there, but he was out of town. It was pleasant, driving through the Carolinas, eastern Tennessee, and NE Georgia, and I rehoned my mountain driving skills in several places (20 mph hairpin curves and so forth).

I was able to have sleeping accomodations for each leg of the rail trip, which made it possible for me to rest my bottom during the day after sitting.

While I was gone, daughter Katie made the arrangements for the surgery that should make a more normal way of life for me possible.

We have had cool weather here, lows in the forties and highs in the seventies.

Good afternoon everyone. Not too bad of a day here, partly cloudy and 66° with a chance of a thundershower later.

Mom has been in her new place for a week now, and she is adjusting well. The powers that be still can't get their act together and get her phone number moved to the new address, but that is about all of the moving foolishness left to deal with.

Quentin, I hope Jean is doing well. The first half of the Indy was fairly uneventful wasn't it. It was shaping up to be a nice Sunday afternoon drive at 220 mph!Surprise It was unfortunate that cautions came into play and affect the final outcome. I for one, was very curious to see if those engines could have stood up to that almost record setting heat had they been able to continue racing under the green flag. I did enjoy the race.

Still no more news about the CP strike, but at the moment the news channels are all in a bit of a lather about someone sending a human foot to the business office of the ruling Conservative Party in Ottawa. I guess some nutbar realized security might be less tight there, than at the Parliament Building. This isn't going to help make the legislative process go any faster. It does seem to take all kinds, doesn't it?

Good Tuesday morning all.  Not staying around too long, as we are getting thunder & lightning.  Current temp is 77 degrees, going for a high in the mid 80s later this afternoon.  Everything is ready:  morning drinks and breakfast.  Gotta go, see you all this afternoon.

Ah - back from three days on the railroad.  Actually went down on Friday to help put the station back together (they painted the walls, requiring re-hanging of many historical pictures and items) and open up the camp car.

Ran as conductor on Saturday and Sunday, with newbies and trainees both days.  Things went well though.

Only supposed to do one run on Sunday (by mid-afternoon on Memorial Day, most folks are headed for home), but ended up having to do some switching to put a different car in the regular consist.  The "new" car was several deep on the storage track and we had to run around it before we could put it on...

For us, three hours of switching is unusual (go ahead, laugh, Ed).  Even better, it was over 80F, and we were using an F (air conditioning consists of open windows and doors).  On the other hand, I was engineer and got some practice with something we don't often do.

Time to crash in my own bed....   zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Almost, but just shy of yesterday's temp.  This afternoon we had 96.1

Just checked a few minutes ago...about 7:30 and it was still 92.

Partly sunny all day....Slight chance of some rain overnight.  We actually need rain.

Believe our current temp is 91 degrees at 3:50 p.m.  Very hot outside, but at least we've got a slight cool breeze blowing, so not too awfully bad out.

Here is our menu for this evening:

Grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, brats and hot dogs, baked beans, corn on the cob, grilled 'baked' taters, slaw, potato salad, German potato salad, macaroni & cheese and green beans for anyone not wanting baked beans.

Hope everyone is enjoying the day.  Take care and have a good evening.

.....Might see some weather tonight....We do need rain, but rather not any storms.  But this extreme heat we've been having invites such action.

89 right now at noon.

Partly sunny.

Good Monday morning, and Happy Memorial Day (hey, we need a flag emoticon!).  Let all of us remember the true reason we're celebrating today:  to Honor all our military personnel who paid the ultimate price for keeping our country free:  their lives.  If nothing else, look up to Heaven above, and say a Thank You to them all for their sacrifice.   And to all vets who are still with us, whenever you see them, stop and shake their hand, and say "Thank you for serving our Country".  (Actually, we all need to do that each and every day, not just on Memorial Day or Veterans Day.)

Morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, including hot water for hot tea and coffee;  and on the warmer/cooler bar, you'll find a selection of food from bacon, eggs, toast, fresh fruits (including watermelon, cantaloupe), to cinnamon rolls and patriotic cupcakes.

Did anyone catch the National Memorial Day concert up in DC last night on PBS?  Walt and I were watching it, when someone from the Parks Dept. came over the speakers and asked that everyone start calmly leaving, due to severe weather.  So instead of getting to see the rest of this year's concert, they reran last year's concert with B.B. King.

Everyone have a good, safe day today, keep cool and hydrated.

Peace be with you. 74 and cloudy in Carolina, neaded for 85 and more clouds later. I watched the storm reports from Channel 4 in Jax on the web for a while last night. When I had an outside antenna years ago, I could get it direct when ch 4 in Charleston signed off for the night.

The boffins allow that beginning Tuesday, Beryl will be here as a depression and we should get torrential rain for a while. That would be welcomed, up to a point anyway.

One of the Folkston railcams went down earlier while I was watching it. Maybe they can get it going soon.

Everyone have a great and safe Memorial day. Remember the sacrifices that keep us free.

Ed, Jean stood up like a real trooper this morning in church, and gave thanks to the Lord for bringing this situation all thru to success.

We've a ways to go yet, but we've had a really good week.  And certainly so much, much better than just 2 weeks ago.  In fact we had our Sunday meal with friends today at Olive Garden.

Yes, I can see you have an incentive to go right to work tomorrow....

And I imagine you really do have humidity down there in swampland, and close to the Gulf.

But this stuff up here in Indiana can get brutal too....My indoor / outdoor instrument showed 96.7 at a bit after 5....and soupy humidity with it.....I didn't see just what that figure was.

Get to work tomorrow, 8 straight and 8 at time and a half, so the incentive is there!

Been in the middle 90's all week, might trade Big Q his version of humidity for ours!

Glad to see Jean doing so much better, hope church lifted her spirits.

Went to the National Cemetery today, polished up my parents markers, placed flags, and watched the Scouts cleaning the place up for tomorrow.

Joe and everyone else, got plenty of cold liquids on hand:  Gatorade, lemonade, sodas, fruit punch, iced tea (sweet & unsweet.)

Have have a bunch of cold, cold salads made up for this hot hot afternoon. There's also ice cream, and various other variety of ice cream novelty treats.  Anything to stay as cool as possible, right?

At last check, our local temp was 92 degrees (that was about a half hour, 45 minutes ago, when  I first got on the computer).  Can't stand to be outside very long at all, unless it is in the shade, sitting on the porch, in the glider, and only then for about 5, 10 minutes; then it's back inside where it is nice and cool!

Everyone take care, stay as cool as possible, and see you all later.

....77 here this morning at 8 am.  So...we're in for another hot one here along with the high humidity.  But sunshine is in full swing.

We're getting ready to attend our Church Service in about an hour, first since Jean's op.

Looks like the only weather trouble spots are in the southeast coastal area.....and quite a bit of stuff going east above us....and on out towards the northeast.

Everyone be safe out there this holiday travel time....Should be lots of traffic with fuel price modulating a bit.

Good Sunday morning.  72 degrees here in Louisville at 5:33 a.m., going for a high of 97 degrees this afternoon.  Going to be a hot, hot, hot day.  And you can feel the humidity out.  I'm half way surprised that one of the cats didn't run in the door, when I was coming back inside, from getting the newspaper.

Coffee, juices, Gatorade, lemonade, iced tea are all fresh and ready.  If anyone wants hot tea, have plenty of tea bags and hot water.  On the food bar this morning:  bacon, eggs, toast, cereal and milk.

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, rail fanning, whatever/wherever you need to be this morning.  Keep safe, and please remember the true reason we have this holiday this weekend:  all our military men and women, past, present and future.

.....Thank you friends....We really have had a good week for Jean.

No comparison to back just 2 weeks ago.

Here, today...Hot, hot, hot....and with humidity.  Big time.  Saw 95.7 this afternoon.

Not sure just what the forecast is for tomorrow, but earlier they seemed to be talking just of extreme high temps for tomorrow's Indy 500.  Maybe even a record high for the date.

Right now...I've been on this computer killing a bit of time, waiting for it to cool off a bit so I can go mow the yard.  It's clear here now and the sun has been beating down all day.

Then we have the Nascar World 600 tomorrow later in the day....So lots of racing tomorrow.

Guess I'll go check what it feels like outside, and see if I might go start mowing....Everyone enjoy the holiday weekend.

Well, our VBS planning is going full steam ahead:  we got a lot more accomplished this afternoon, including a couple of the guys getting the banners up outside, to advertise for VBS, which starts 1 week from Monday:  we'll be meeting this coming Wednesday, and next Saturday.  Next Saturday, we'll be putting everything up in the gym and Church, along with having a mandatory session to be 'certified' on Sexual Misconduct Training, so we all know what conduct is not allowed towards the children and teens.  I believe all the volunteers already know it, but it is something we have to go through.  That will be towards the end of our meeting time next Saturday, after we get the gym actually set up for VBS week.

Quentin, I'm so very glad to hear that Jean is doing so well in her recovery.  You two will be able to make your visit back to PA before you know it.  And I'll still be saying prayers for you two, and for everyone else who needs them.

It has been really hot here this afternoon.  Coming out of the gym, and walking 2 doors to the house, I was sweating like you wouldn't believe.  I was totally glad to get into the house, where it is nice and cool.

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

01.  Anchovie

02.  Canadian bacon

03.  Cheese

04.  Chicago style

05.  Goetta

06.  Ham & green pepper

07.  Hawaiian

08.  Italian sausage

09.  Pepperoni/mushroom

10.  Supreme

For Dessert we have:  Ice cream sandwiches, drumsticks, Fudgecicles (sp?), Sundaes, ice cream cones, or just plain ole bowls of ice cream.

You all have a good evening, take care, try to stay as cool as possible, and I'll see you all in the morning.

Quentin, if you hadn't mentioned the Indianapolis 500 first, I would have. I think I may have missed watching 2 of the last 20 races, or so. Glad to hear it will be hot, which I presume will mean no precipitation. I hate waiting around for rain delays. Good to hear Jean is getting even better.

Mom moved into her new home on Tuesday. So far, so good. There is always the usual foolishness associated with changing addresses, like getting the phone and Cable TV sorted out, and changing the address for her newspaper. Speaking of which, I was astounded to learn that the main local newspaper here has outsourced handling of their change of address requests. You have to give "props" to the guy that came up with that as a business, but still, what a ridiculous business to be in!Surprise

My brother, sister, and I met last night and the official decision was taken to sell Mom's house. It was quite the momentous decision to make, but it seems all three of us went into the discussion with the same mindset from the start. But of course selling a house has its' own kind of foolishness to contend with.

The CPR strike continues.

Did a Quick Google Search and in 63 the Owl would have had F's on the point of it for Power as the Daylight was being pulled by the PA's still so I am thinking whatever Horns the FP-7 had on it and everything I can find says it was the old M5 Nathan series it might have had a bad Bell on it someplace also.
