Well, we have a tree this year, after all. Katie came over late this morning with a very small plastic tree (with battery-powered LED lights)--and some of the old family ornaments that we had given her about two years ago, and she put it up in the living room, on one endof the piano.
Church tomorrow morning, and then we will go to Katie's house for brunch and gift giving with immediate family and then back home in time for Ricki's afteroon nap

I haven't been around much lately as I haven't been feeling all that well. I have been very run down and feeling like I don't have much energy. I was able to get out and do a bare minimum of Christmas shopping. I will be going up to my sister's place, along with my Mom, tomorrow. The visit to my brother's place hasn't been scheduled yet.
Temps in the mid forties here today, and the same for tomorrow.
I had hoped to tell a few stories about life in a station at Christmas, but hopefully I will try to get them on here in the next week or so. Unique things that we will likely never see again, like the rules for decorating the outside of a station, or having a real Roadmaster help my Dad set up a Lionel 027 train set. It was set up in the waiting room, and the Section Men really enjoyed playing with it on their lunch breaks for the rest of the winter.
I have enjoyed visiting with you folks this past year, and once again Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas Eve and good Saturday morning everyone! Joe, I'm glad you made it in this morning: I didn't wake up until 6:15, and moving kind of slow this morning. The tables look great, Matt!! Thank you both for being such great helpers around here. The cinnamon rolls smell heavenly this morning, and the candy canes add extra color to the tables.

The coming week is their "black Friday" and there's no natural snow. And it's been too warm to make much snow. Ran a couple of errands into the city this afternoon - traffic and shoppers were heavy, but not in gridlock. Ate lunch at the food court at the mall just to watch the crowds... Better get my cranberry relish made. It's better if it sits for a couple of days, mulling. Did somebody say dessert?

Hope everyone is ready for Chrtistmas. If you are traveling, please be sure to have your car completely checked out. Take your time on the highway as there is a lot of traffic predicted. Be sure to watch your speed, and weather conditions. Better to arrive a little late at your destination than having an accident or sliding into the ditch.

Yep, got hit with about 10" of Snow yesterday and decided to stay home and do the telecommute thing. Dropped down to 10F overnight and current 16F but the Sun is working it's way out. Should be a good weekend for Holiday activities

Good Friday morning everyone. Cloudy here in Louisville, with a temp around 42, 43 degrees. Rain is finally out of here. The high today is to be around 45 degrees.
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider are all fresh and ready to go. Also have hot water on for our hot tea drinkers. On the warmer/serving bar this morning: bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, gravy, bagels and bear claws. (Sorry, did not make it to the doughnut shop this morning.)
The turkeys are out of the freezer, and in the fridge, defrosting. I think I'll start roasting them tomorrow, if they're completely thawed. If they aren't, then I'll be roasting them Sunday.

We have had practically no snow in the valley for several days (we did get a little last night); does MC has some arrangement whereby the Front Range gets the heavy snow?
I at last had a colonoscopy day before yesterday--all clean. Next is a hernia repair, a week from today.
As to putting Christmas trees up, I do not remember much detail from my childhood days. Until I was eight years old (and my brother Tommy was nine) one or more of our older brothers took care of it; I do not even recall how we did it the three years that they were all away from home (three were in the Service; the oldest one was in Baton Rouge) The time did come when Tommy and I would go out into the woods well back of our house and get a tree. I believe that we always waited until just before Christmas Day to put it up; I do remember that one year our mother told us that it would stay up until Twelfth Night (Epiphany, when the coming of the Magi was celebrated).
After Ricki and I married, we followed the tradition that Ricki knew when she was growing up--when she and her sister went to bed Christmas Eve, there was no tree in evidence; when they got up Christmas morning, the tree was in the living room, with presents under it. In time, I would put the tree up in the morning before the First Day of Christmas, and we would decorate during the day (Ricki did most of the decorating, since she was quite particular as to what went where. Our first Christmas together, we even got a tree that was cut the day before Christmas, but since moving here we have had to depend upon getting a tree that was cut several days before we bought it, and keep it in water until the day before Christmas (and put it into fresh water when setting it up for Christmas.
Now we no longer even get a tree (I think this is the third or fourth year that we have not) because of Ricki's inability to stand for long (if at all), and I told her that I could not decorate one to her satisfaction. I still put lights up outside (though not as high as I once did), and we have a nativity scene (bought many years ago, early in her first marriage) and an Advent wreath in the living room until Epiphany.

Well, our rain started around 11 a.m., and now the weather guessers are saying it'll be here at least through evening rush hour. They also gave the "look ahead temp and precip forecast for the winter: above normal temperatures and above normal precip, which should be mostly rain.
For the rest of the afternoon/evening, here is our menu lineup:
1. Tacos, burritos, Spanish rice, enchaladas, tamales, and shredded lettuce w/diced tomatoes (and diced onion, if you want onion)
2. Fried rice: beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, and special with all the meats
3. Sloppy joes w/fries and garden salad

....Another mild morning here too. Just yesterday, I mentioned to Jean, if it keeps this up....I actually could do another mowing. That would get the last of all the leaves that have blown on to us here since my "last" mowing. I remember some time in the past, I have mowed in early December....re: Tom's comments.
It is unusual for this time of the year. We're running lower and lower on heating degree days compared to last year, and the normal figures.
Trivia: Have added 3 min. as of yesterday to the evening daylight before sundown.
Can't tell it's near Christmas by any snow....{and I'm not looking for any}, but one sure can by what is in the morning paper each day....Sales and more sales. Many are real too. I personally have purchased a quality Perry Ellis Portfolio parka at a tremendous savings...Compared prices several places on the internet and locally, and {they even had to order it}, purchased it locally and it was sent right to our door step...{no shipping charge}, and it arrived in less than a week. {Local store, Maceys', didn't have the needed size in stock}.
12" of fresh powder snow here in Denver. Northern Colorado is getting a taste of what the south part got on Monday without the wind. The dogs got out the back door and immediately said the heck with it and came back in. Firing-up the manual snow blower.

Cannonball, et al, for several years, with it just being Walt and myself, we didn't bother with putting up a tree (even tho we had an artificial one). Instead, Walt would put up his Nativity scene his sister made for him, probably close to 30 years ago. Or, we had one of the Douglas Fir 2 ft. trees for a few years.He sang and wished you a Merry Christmas. And thank you all for the compliments on our first live tree in several years.

With all our youngin'sgone and have their own families , we bought a real non imitation " Charley Brown tree at Frys-- Kroger. It looks like the cartoon tree with a real red ornament and Linus blue blanket. This year it plays "Schroeder's tune from the base" Not having a real tree does not diminish our Christmas spirit.

When I was young, Santa brought the tree. My sister and I went to bed on Christmas eve and on Christmas morning, there was the tree, nicely decorated and fully stocked with gifts. Sure kept the folks busy on "the night before Christmas."
Since I'm most likely to be headed elsewhere for Christmas, as opposed to having company here, I just stick with the outside decorations.
Rain here tonight, but the weatherguessers are suggesting up to an inch of the white stuff tomorrow and Friday. The question being whether it will still be around Christmas morning.
Railroad is done for the season, got my meetings and stuff out of the way for the week, gifts and cards are all out, so I can kick back for a few days. Lovin' it.
