Well, everyone should be home from Church (those who went this morning), and those who were out early railfanning, so guess it is about time for some Sunday Dinner.  Here is today's menu:

Meat loaf w/mashed taters and gravy, crescent rolls, green beans, creamed corn, and tossed salad.

Hope you all are enjoying your afternoon.  Joe, take care going back to work tonight.  Everyone take care, and see you all later.

Good Sunday morning everyone.  75 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Winds today are to be from the NE at 5 to 10 mph.  with a high around 85.  Looks like it'll be a nice day.

Have been awake off and on since just after midnight.  Do not know why I kept waking up every little bit.  Actually been up since about 4:50, have gotten dishes washed from last night.

Coffee is on, juices and other morning beverages freshly made.  Breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

Think I may try to go back to sleep after a bit, and hopefully, get a little bit of good sleep in.  Everyone have a good day, take care going to Church, work, railfanning, whatever you'll be doing this morning.  See you all later.

Thought I would drop by for a late night Supreme pizza to celebrate my 1,001 post. I couldn't have done it without the help of all of you here in the Cafe, and over in the Lounge.

It was a good day all around, I did get out to do some train watching.

It is getting late so I guess I will just chow down.Dinner

.....A nice Saturday morning here, and it's expected to be nice for on into the new week.  Not much chance of rain as of now.

Best wishes to those in the hurricane's path...

We could use some rain, but hopefully not from that kind of weather.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  We're starting out with a temp of 68 degrees here at 7:53 a.m.  Supposed to see a high in the mid 80s to 88 degrees today.  Not much happening around here, at least not yet.

Coffee, juices, hot water for hot tea, iced teas are all fresh and ready to go.  Saturday brunch is on the warmer/serving station:

Pancakes (flapjacks), bacon ,sausage, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs, country fried steak, fried taters (everything fried in canola oil, btw), and plenty of maple syrup and blueberry syrup for the pancakes.  There's also some cantaloupe, watermelon and sliced tomatoes.

Sincerely hope all our forum friends all along the east coast are all right.  Property damage can be replaced:  people cannot.

Everyone have a good day, take care and see you all later.

Had a similar accident happened east of Calgary with "The Canadian" back in the day, it would have been local news on Calgary TV. That would have placed it west of Swift Current, SK and Calgary would still be the closest major city. Folks in Regina might object to my not calling their city major.Off Topic

That would have been in the area my dad dispatched, and all the "white hats" would have come from Calgary.

Bruce - Benkelman is 4 1/2 hours (286 miles/460 km) west of Lincoln pretty much as the crow flies.  This is CZ #6- going east to Chicago and would have gone thru Lincoln in wee hours of morning.  It was just barely out of Colorado and into Nebraska when this happened.

I use canola oil, so glad to know it is well cared for before I get it.

Mookie

wonder if Amtrak charges extra for the "thrills"......Question

I was going to ask you if this happened anywhere near you. I'm not sure how big Nebraska is. I know the definition of "local" news in western Canada is fairly huge compared to the US, because of our low population density. What we think of as happening down the street is something a lot of people would never even think of.

The article in yesterdays Newswire about the increase in grain shipments on CN was fairly interesting. Especially about the increase in Canola shipments. That Canola oil seems to turn up in more kinds of foods than you can shake a stick at.

The story reminded me of a time when my Dad and my uncle, who was employed by the irrigation system at Brooks, AB, got into an intense discussion of railway's ability to ship grain, especially Canola. My dad and I learned more about the grain transportation business than either of us had ever known before. Canola is crushed to make Canola oil, but the seeds are so soft that just riding in a cylindrical hopper can crush the seeds near the bottom of the car, and the oil will run out down the track. Also if the car is parked on a siding on a hot day the buildup of heat in the car will force more oil out of the seeds. The movement of the car vibrates the seeds enough so that even in the coldest Canadian winter the contents won't freeze. But again if the car sits on a siding too long in winter, the oil will freeze and the whole car load is worthless.

The key to success is knowing when the buyer wants the delivery, loading the car just before the train picks it up, and then having a quick uneventful journey to the buyers unloading facility. I see in the story that CN has raised the successful "on time" delivery rate to 81%. Given the distances and climate in this country, I have to admit, that is pretty impressive.

It looks like a very nice day out today even though the latest temperature I have seen is only 68°. I am going to try to go trackside with my scanner this weekend to see what I hear in terms of CP crews calling signals over the radio. The thread on this subject has gotten me curious. I know CP does call out some signals but I'm not sure exactly what the procedure is. Anyway, it makes a good excuse to get out and watch some trains.

....Windows open, a nice fresh, sunny morning.  Forecast seems to be for a quiet weather pattern next 5 or 6 days in this area.  Perhaps we're beyond any effects of massive rain, etc...from the hurricane working it's way up the eastern seaboard.  Hope people will not stay in the most dangerous places, and get to safety.

Hey Joe!  Got the NS mt coal train you sent.  All BNSF power, but all NS gons except for the one lone Conrail one.  Pretty cool.  Maybe we will catch them heading back your way!  Complete $$$$ train!  Thumbs Up

88 and a slight north breeze - very nice.  Will be a nice weekend, too.

Guess Houston got some rain so I can give my sore foot a rest!   Will have to work over the rest of Texas on another day.

Such a beautiful day!!  Absolutely gorgeous weather!  Walt just got back from riding his bike to the library.

Our menu for the rest of the day:  Mexican Fiesta Day:

1.  Tacos, burritos, chimichangas, fajitas, taco salad, and everything else Mexican, along with mesquite grilled steaks and pork chops, quesadillas.

And if you don't want Mexican Food today:

2.  Grilled steaks, pork chops, brats, hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw, garden salad, potato salad, corn on the cob and potato chips.

Think I'll take my one of my library books out on the front porch, and sit in the glider and enjoy the nice breeze and sunshine.  Everyone enjoy your afternoon, take care and see you all later.

....A great morning here.  Forecast looking ahead shows sunshine for about 7 days....Temps in the upper 70's to low 80's.  That looks very nice.

Overnight, we received one half inch of rain.  A system did pass thru here late last night and headed east, and perhaps slightly north.

Now this weekend will be a potential bad one for parts of the east coast.  Have a niece in Philadelphia...and that is rather close to where  "Irene" is to pass....

I imagine we will see damage to railroad ROW's and perhaps signaling structures.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  It doesn't feel too bad outside here in Louisville this morning:  temps in the low to mid 70s, and our predicted high for today will be about 87 degrees.  If we got any rain overnight, don't see any signs of it in our yard:  dry as a bone!

Coffee, juices, hot water for our hot tea drinkers, Gatorade for Mudchicken and whomever else, soft drinks, iced teas (sweet and unsweetened) are all fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, fresh sliced tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi and papaya, toast.

Really enjoyed watching Hot in Cleveland last night.  Betty White is so funny on there!  And Cedric the Entertainer was really good as the "minister", who is helping Betty's character and her fiance, played by Buck Henry.  Supposedly, the wedding will take place next Wednesday night.  Wonder if it will happen???

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

I'm getting a complex....

I have been doing some foot stomping - trying to get rain for Texas.  So far I have had floods here, rain in every state east of here and north of Texas, 2 earthquakes, high winds, softball hail, a hurricane and a sore foot.

Moo.....

Spent yesterday and today working on a drainage project around the house - hopefully of all the rain that Irene may dump on us most won't end up in my basement.

We'd planned a kayak excursion for a group of our volunteers for Sunday - that may get rained out, too...

Gotta pack up and get ready to head for the railroad tomorrow.  Back in the seat!

Edit - just checked the radar - looks like we may get rocked overnight, if the system that just left Michigan holds together...

....This turned out to be a pretty hot one.  Thought maybe we've had all of the 90's stuff earlier.  But our instrument topped out late this afternoon at 93.7....and a bit of humidity with it.  None of that rain that has been forecast yet.  Mostly clear skies, and sunshine.

CW, it looks like a great supper you have laid out.

I just walked home from downtown and it is a beautiful day out. 81° with a slight breeze and sunny. It almost made up for the fact I was coming home from the dentist! Actually everything turned out fine.

If I understand my geography right it looks like there is a hurricane headed to the same area as the earthquake yesterday. I hope none of our loyal readers and posters are in harms way, or have already been affected.

Nothing new on the local RR news front.
