....Again, warm & humid.   Missed "weather" last evening as it passed very close to us.  Perhaps most passed northeast.

Mostly cloudy, but the sun peeks thru some this morning.

Joe, that is a good menu for a day like today:  waiting for the rain to come in, in the next hour or so.

Hamburgers are coming off the grill, and we also have grilled corn on the cob to go with the burgers; there is also:  freshly made garden salad, sliced onion and tomatoes to go on the burgers, along with American or cheddar cheese (my choice would be the sharp cheddar:  very tasty!): and the different cheddar cheeses are marked, so you know what you're getting.

There is also two different birthday cakes:

1.  Chocolate cake w/chocolate icing

2.  Yellow cake w/chocolate icing

And plenty of ice cream to go on top of the cake, or on the side in a bowl.

Happy birthday, Joe Happy B-Day. May you have many more, with joy each time! May I have some of your chocolate cake?

We are supposed to get into the eighties along the Wasatch Front today--and the flood watchers are predicting the times when various creeks and rivers will overflow their banks.

Even so, it is not expected that there will be the damage and inconvenience (not enough bridges could be built to cross the various streets that had become rivers) caused by the heavy runoff in the spring of '83.

I finished getting my swamp cooler ready to run today; I hope my neighbors who have not even taken the covers off theirs will not suffer from heat before they get theirs ready.

Wow! Sounds like I missed a great Birthday Party earlier today. Happy Birthday Joe.

Well, we had a very nice day here today. A high of 73°.

I was checking out the neighbourhood on my way to get groceries this evening. I should spend less time worrying about the water issues outside of Calgary and pay more attention to what is happening right outside my building. There is a pretty good sinkhole developing under the sidewalk in front of the business next door. And it is setting up for a really expensive mess in the road by the Safeway store. We get this nice weather, the water starts evaporating, and the world starts sinking right out from under us.Sad

Hope everyone has a nice day tomorrow.

Bruce

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Joe, glad you enjoyed your birthday yesterday!

Man oh man, what a night we had here in Louisville:  Walt and I were eating supper when the weather radio went off:  tornado warning for western Jefferson County, which is exactly where we are!  We both jumped up, ran to the door and looked out.  Just the light rain falling.  Then the sirens went off.

If Walt and I had had a few cents for every time the weather radio went off last night, we'd both have a pretty good amount of pocket change this morning.  The worst hit areas are just south of us in the area of Pleasure Ridge Park, which is just down Dixie Highway from us.  The storms were heading northeast, which took it the Churchill Downs area, and right around the CSX yard.  The storm damaged/demolished 9 horse barns and knocked down quite a good number of trees and power lines.  Then it moved on into eastern Jeff. Co.  Several funnel clouds were spotted, and one of them, right over the Downs, you could see it picking up debris and blowing it around, in a concentrated area for several minutes, before it even moved on.  We were finally in the clear just before 11 p.m. I've always heard about and know about pop up storms, but this is the first time for pop up tornadoes around here.

After it cleared up, Walt went out and checked the rain gauge:  2 inches of rain is what we received right here at the house.  Fortunately, we didn't have any local damage right around us. So----how was everyone else's evening??

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready and on the warmer/serving station.

CW - cranking out some sunny weather to send to you.  Very windy here for 2 days, but this morning looks to be very nice.  Little cooler, too.

We have been well insulated here - tornados to the west of us did some damage; floods to the east, north and south of us.  Very nice, but still you keep in the back of your mind - "when will the shoe drop?"

Lots of coffee this a.m.  Like Joe, I have chores this morning and need lots of energy.  Then some fun this afternoon - lunch and train watching.  Ah!  The good life!

Whistling Glad you folks are all OK.   Here in Az. we have big wild fires to the east of usclose to N.M. border. And one in the south part of Az. More than a few homes  burned and just two folk killed (fire fighters) , that is two too many. And the fire season is just starting. No rain in tthe forseeable future.

And pretty hot to boot.

Line of weather out over Buffalo looks to get here by this evening.  Could pack a punch - we'll have to see.

Getting ready for workin' on the railroad this weekend.

This is my first time on the computer since this morning.  Just haven't felt like sitting here in front of the puter screen.  Still too tired and sleepy from last night's excitement, I guess.  As of noon, believe they have confirmed at least two tornadoes in our area last night:  over Churchill downs, and out on the eastside, in Jeffersontown, KY.  Do know that the Downs did transfer some of the horses over to the barns at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center.

For supper tonight:  Fried rice:  beef, chicken, pork, shrimp and special, which has all four kinds of meat in it; chop suey and Moo Goo Gai Pan.

Mookie, thanks for sending the cooler weather.  We have had a very nice, cool breeze all day, and it feels good being outside, sitting on the front porch; did that a little while ago.

Cannonball, will say some prayers for you all to get some rain, to help put out the wildfires.

Joe, you just reminded me:  today is my sister's oldest daughter's birthday, and I have another niece whose birthday is tomorrow.  Need to make a phone call in a little bit.

Everyone have a very good evening, and take care.

Glad to hear that you and Walt are ok CW.  It's one thing to look at the telly and see bad weather, and another knowing that someone you know is where it's happening.

Happy (late) birthday to Joe.  Off to get dinner ready for the family.

CW, at this time last night it sounds like you were having a lot of trouble around your place. I hope it is much calmer this evening.

It is still 55° right now. It was a nice day here up until late afternoon with a high of 79°. We then were south of a large thunder cell, not close enough to get much rain, but we had 50 mph winds. There was damage caused by big trees toppling over, and unsecured construction materials blowing of the tops of large buildings. At a "lake"* just east of the city 10 people were thrown overboard from various pleasure craft.

While it was nice earlier in the day I very nearly bought the farm. I was downtown waiting at a "Don't Walk" light, not really paying attention, when I noticed the gentleman next to me start across the street. Reflexively, I started to follow him across the street. When I was about ¾ of the way across, I looked up and saw the light was still red and that this guy was jaywalking! So there I was out playing in the middle of traffic! Getting across that last lane to the sidewalk was a nerve wracking experience. I was awful happy to get home.

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

Bruce

Good Friday morning!  Very nice this morning, with a temp about 66 degrees, and a nice, cool breeze.  Bruce, last night was very peaceful, as the weather radio stayed Q*U*I*E*T! Also, Bruce, make sure you pay attention to the WALK/DON'T WALK signs.  Wink  Don't want anyone getting run overSurprise

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  a small seclection of various doughnuts, danish, bear claws, bagels, bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, cantaloupe, watermelon and various other fresh fruits.

Getting kind of excited, as we'll be seeing our great nephew tomorrow, celebrating his 5th birthday.  And of course, will also be seeing several other family members, my twin brother being one of them, and maybe even my sister.

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, your morning, take care, and if anyone would like to join me (Mookie, you around this morning), I'll be out in the garden, train watching.

Mookie, do you like baked tomatoes?  My Mama always fixed them when we were growing up.  And I always called them "baked tomato pie".  You know, put biscuits in the pan, pour the tomatoes and sprinkle brown sugar (or white sugar) on top, and bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes.  Love them, but haven't had them in over 20 years.  But we will today, as I've fixed some to go along with our Friday Fish menu for today:

FISH:  Bass, catfish, haddock, halibut, flounder, perch, salmon croquets, shrimp and tilapia

SIDE DISHES:  Baked beans, corn on the cob, cole slaw, baked tomatoes, fries, hush puppies, mac & cheese, fried breaded mushrooms, green beans, cooked greens.

DESSERTS:  Chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, yellow cake w/caramel icing, strawberry cheesecake, pecan pie, and the following cobblers:  apple, blueberry, cherry and peach.  Plenty of ice cream to go with the pies and cobblers.

I just saw on the internet home page, that actor Peter Falk, as died at age 83.  I know I have seen him in other roles/shows, but after he became "Colombo", I can't remember his other roles.  May he R.I.P.

Boy, did this bring back a childhood memory. The Roadmaster at Irricana was quite a good gardener. When I was about 8 or 9 I learned the best way to enjoy tomatoes is just after they are picked . We sat down on the porch of his house and passed around a salt shaker and ate them just like that. To this day when I encounter a fresh garden grown tomato I think back to sitting outside of his house.

Not a great day for sitting outside here today. It only got up to 63° with a cool wind. It is expected to go down to 43° and judging by the way the wind feels blowing in the window, I can believe it.

Nothing much else to speak about today.

Bruce

Good Saturday morning.  Temp is in the mid 60s this morning, going for a high of 85 and the sun is beginning to shine.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Saturday brunch is on the warmer/serving station.

In case I'm not back in here this evening (going to great-nephew's b-day party), the pizzas are in the freezer, and they are all marked, so you know what you're getting out to put in the oven.  Hope everyone has a very good day, take care and see you all later.

....Good fresh red ripe tomato slices on a good hamburg is great too.  Add Suger, salt & pepper.  But that ham sandwich sounds good too.  Especially, since I've not had lunch yet.

A beautiful sunny {non A/C}, day here in Muncie....Windows open, and right now, a train horn sounding for a crossing about a mile north of us on the Frankfort N S line.

Why bother with salt? Just take the tomato off the vine and eat it right there, after brushing any dirt off.Smile I learned this with the yellow tomatoes that my mother's best friend grew. And, slices of juicy tomato with mayonnaise on white store-boughten bread--yumm!Dinner

It's a little cooler here today, which pleases the flood watchers (there have been some break-outs, but nothing like what the Souris is doing).

This morning, noticed water dripping off the roof--and we have not had any rain--so I went up and saw that the water inlet valve on the swamp cooler was not closing as it should. Why? because there was water in the valve float. Now I am waiting for the caulk I put into the hole that let the water out to set up so I can put the assembly back together. A few years ago, I tried to find a float, but had to settle for an entire new valve.

Did anybody see anything in the paper or on television this morning about the collision in Nevada yesterday? We saw nothing.

Gosh - I didn't realize I had so much company in liking tomatoes.

I keep one here by the puter and in the evening just enjoy it as an evening snack.  Just naked tomato.  Yum.  2 napkins worth!

Johnny - have been reading different stories all day about the Amtrak vs truck.  Amtrak just can't seem to catch a break!  And the truck driver - well, with skid marks, he may well have fallen asleep.  Not good for all involved!

We saw a rather strange sight on the BNSF main line between Lincoln and Omaha.  Nice day - we were headed out for a short ride - found about a dozen empty and loaded BNSF trains - some coal, some freight, some going north out of Lincoln and some going south into Lincoln yard.  All parked on both main lines, one group was 4 - nose to tail - and the others were one on each main line - about a signal block between the ones ahead and the ones behind.

I know things are a bit slow and the water has caused some delays - but this looked like a big BNSF parking lot or used train lot.

Joe - your Detroit Edison was trying to get into the yard to go to the coal fields.  One BNSF grain train - don't know if mt or full and I don't know if any or all of the trains had crews on board.

We didn't go all the way into Omaha, but did go look at the Platte River, which is now about the size of the Missouri River (about double its normal size)  That's a lot of water flowing downstream!  And it rained a lot again last nite.   We have to figure out how to re-distribute this water!  Free Give Away - bring your own bucket!

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Really tired this morning, after being out in the country and  fresh, fresh air yesterday.  It was really great to see my brother, sister, my brothers wife, kids, grandkids, and even his ex wife was there.  Most of those people, we haven't seen in 20 years.  But we had a very good time, and our great-nephew really enjoyed his birthday party.  Haven't downloaded the pictures yet, but will be sure to post a few after they are down/uploaded.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  (I'll soon be ready for my second cup of coffee.)  Have some cinnamon rolls, caramel rolls, biscuits, sausage, eggs and biscuits on the warmer/serving station for breakfast.

We have a temp of 68, 69 degrees, with light rain this morning.  Going for a high in the low 80s for today.  Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, railfanning or whatever else you'll be doing this morning.
