Another day that started out cool--andthe temperature now is in the mid seventies, We expect lows in the fifties, and the highs will gradually move into the eighties.

As to the girl who was killed by a train yesterday, some clarification was in the morning paper. Unlike most of the TRAX crossings (except in downtown Salt Lake City, where there are no crossing gates), which have both lanes blocked on both sides of the track, this one has only one gate on each side, which blocks traffic in the direction of the traffic. The girl (fifteen years old) was crossing on the other side of the street, against the current of vehicular traffic, so she did not have to walk around a gate. To matters more difficult for pedestrians, there is a sound wall by the track, which blocked her view of the oncoming train. And, the crossing is in a "quiet zone," so the operator is not supposed to sound the horn as the train approaches the crossing.  Altogether, it was a sad event.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  69 degrees, and we've had rain overnight.  As a matter of fact, the heavy downpour around 4, 5 a.m. woke me up.  But, I managed to go right back to sleep.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:

turkey bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes, waffles, country fried ham, grits, cantaloupe and watermelon, kiwi and papaya.

Everyone have a great day, and keep safe while out and about today.  See you all this evening for our pizza fest.

Good Morning.

It was a good thing that I got out and had a look around the neighbourhood last night, it is raining and 50° now.

Not sure what my plan for today is, I hadn't expected rain. I should have paid more attention.

No other news right now.

,,,Enjoyed the couple of photos in the back of the current Train's mag. of the Johnstown, Pa. area.  Still trying to figure out which building that is in one of the photos.  A building of rather good size in the background...I should be able to ID that, but I'm drawing a "0".

YAA! Pizza time again. I think I will go with a Supreme and Peach Cobbler for dessert. Thanks CW.

Been raining all day and it is still 50°. There have been warnings all day to stay off the Bow and Elbow Rivers through Calgary, but as we all know it is very hard to get teenagers to listen. Here is a story from CTV Calgary:

The Cochrane Fire Department, EMS, and Fish and Wildlife personnel attended the scene and assisted in the search for the group of rafters.

The rafts were found hitched to the shore.

It was later found that all five rafters, three men and two women, were picked up by a CPR train conductor and taken to Cochrane.

Cochrane was once the first open station west of Calgary. It was closed when CTC was installed in 1967. Of all the stations once open on the Laggan Sub., Cochrane along with Banff, were the only two my Dad never worked at on that line.

Good Sunday morning everyone.  I hope everyone had a good evening, and got a  good night's sleep.

Coffee, juices, milk, chocolate milk, apple cider, hot water for hot tea, are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  cold pizzas from last night, bacon, sausage, eggs, and toast.

Keep safe going to Church, work, railfanning, or whatever else you have planned for this morning (maybe you worked last night, and getting ready to go to sleep); take care and see you all later.

Good morning everyone.  Its another bright sunshiny day here in Alamo City.  Out expected high today will be 100.

Exceptionally dry down here.  and there has been many wildfires out in West Texas.  My wife and I took a drive up into the Hill Country northwest of San Antonio and its even worse up there.

San Antonio has received a total of 4.03 inches of rain for the year.  Normally we have 14.34 inches...a deficit of 10.31 inches.

Fortunately it looks like the La Nina weather pattern (responsible for the nasty weather, and our lack of rain) is fading, and we may be slowly getting back to a more normal weather pattern.

Those of you in the area's threatened with flooding...be careful.  And if anyone has a way to ship that water done here, we'll gladly take it.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Murray, saying prayers that you all receive a steady, gentle rain for about a week, to relieve your drought conditions!  At least it would help the deficit somewhat.

For our Sunday Dinner menu today:

1.  Roast, potatoes, carrots, corn on the cob, baked cornbread, your choice of green beans or broccoli w/cheese sauce

2.  Leftover pizza from last night

3.  Grilled steaks, pork chops, chicken, brats, hamburgers, hot dogs w/baked beans, corn on the cob, cole slaw, potato salad, and freshly prepared garden tossed salad.

Hope you enjoy, have a good afternoon and take care.

Good Monday morning everyone!  64 degrees with cloudy skies here in Louisville this morning.  Very comfortable outside, even a tad bit chilly!!  It is a welcome relief.  Murray, between Mookie and myself, maybe you'll be getting some rain down your way.

Coffee, juices and the other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi, papaya, fresh sliced tomatoes.

May have to dig out a pair of sweat pants for in the morning, as it is to be very cool, with our projected high tomorrow of 79 degrees.  Heck, I even may need a  light jacket in the morning, when I go to Produce.

Everyone have a great morning, take care and see you all later.

Hey Mookie, want to go sit out in the garden this morning, in our rocking chairs?  We've got a really nice morning for it!

I got a new battery in the motor on the rockin' chair - I'm ready.

Had to get up early this morning for my meeting with the garbage man.  2x's a week we meet.  I  lock up our garbage to keep our strange neighbor out of it during the week.  But I have to get up by 6 am and transfer it to big containers and then play watchlady to make sure neighbor doesn't sneak out there and paw around in it.

He's very nosy.  Really bent his nose when I started locking it up until collection days.  Thumbs Up

Rivers are high and still rising.  Going to be a very long summer!  BNSF & UP rerouting around our area.  Now what will I do for entertainment!  I guess move to KS where they are rerouting all traffic.

Blah.

Is this neighbor that "paws" around in your garbage a two legged one Jen....?  If so, what might "he" be doing that for....?

Muncie this morning:  Nice blue sky, with high puffy white clouds, and sunshine.  Temp. now:  68 at 11:17.  Nice and dry / cool...After our yard work last evening, it really looks nice.

I was wondering the same thing, Quentin. Several times when I was out walking early in the morning, I have come across a two-legged recycle bin pawer; he is gathering aluminum cans, and I am sure he knows which bins have treaure troves of aluminum cans.

A little cool here this morning; in the upper fifties. We have a promise of a few days in the eighties, and then back down to the seventies. We also have a promise of maybe some rain. I have started watering our grass.

The band of the junior high school that is behind our house is going past on the street just now as they practice for the Days of Forty-Seven parade (24 July). I'm glad that I do not have to work evenings or nights.

Back home, finally. Can put off dealing with Maryland for a while, like maybe next April in Baltimore. (See you then PDN.... Guess I get to see you work up a sweat first in MN)

Got home just in time to wrassle with Gus in the bathtub and catch up on da honeydooz.

Thanx for all the kind words last week. (I was kinda busy getting ready to teach some 100 of my fellow mudchickens and not on the forum much; the copy machines are are still panting & weezing here.)

They closed Raton Pass this morning due to fire and smoke on the hill ("Track Fire" -.  http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_18260517   http://www.clipsyndicate.com/video/play/2543347/track_fire_near_raton_burns_2_700_acres?cpt=8&wpid=) Hope they get some rain soon. We have cases of flooding and fires happening out here at the same time - weird. Not a good day for Amtrak around here.

It's 2 legged and seems to have "elevator" problems of some sort.

We live in a 2 story side-by-side duplex.  Bedrooms/bath up and basement.  He lives in basement; roomie lives upstairs and they share the main floor (kitchen and living room)

He keeps all windows covered and even with mini-blinds at the back door window, he put notebook paper on each side of the blinds so no one can peek in the sides.

We can't keep any kind of tools in the garage or he just helps himself.

Had to have a chat with him about staying out of our mailbox.  He would open ours to see if mail had been delivered when he didn't get any.

Blocked our door at halloween with his so the kids would go to their door and couldn't see ours.  I quit buying candy for halloween after that.  Saves $$$$.

I got tired of him alphabetizing the garbage and sorting thru it looking for jars, containers or anything else he thought he should hoard, so Driver put a smaller garbage can with wheels outside next to our back door and drilled a hole in the lip of the lid and put a padlock on it.  We put our garbage in it each day, lock it up and then I take it to the bigger containers on garbage day.

It made him mad that he didn't have access to our garbage anymore, so he backed over our personal garbage can with his car.  Big dent down by one of the wheels.

Landlord knows, but I told him to not say anything - at least they are quiet.  We can handle it by making changes.  And we have definitely lived next to a lot worse.

Never a dull moment!

Joe, thanks for the reminder on Matt's birthday; think I put it down on my calendar wrong for this year:  I have it listed as being tomorrow, same as our Sarah's birthday. MATT:  HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY!!!!! Hope you're having a terrific day today! Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

But, the good news is:  I do have a chocolate cake w/chocolate icing, that is ready and is decorated with "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MATT" on it for dessert tonight.

For our meal tonight:

1.  Whole chicken, but up into parts, and fried a nice golden brown, with mashed taters, milk gravy, green beans, or broccoli or Brussels sprouts and corn on the cob, cole slaw and garden salad, and your choice of dinner rolls or made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits.

2.  Leftover roast beef, carrots and taters, and all the above listed side dishes in #1 on menu.

For anyone who doesn't like or want chocolate birthday cake, there is yellow cake w/white icing, and peach or strawberry cobbler for dessert.

We have known for awhile that we have a stray black cat residing in our crawl space under the house:  what we didn't know is that she has 2 baby kittens!  I figure they are about 4 weeks old, they have a nice coat of fur, and are walking about.  I need to download the couple of pictures I got of them this morning.  After I get the pictures downloaded, I'll post one or both of them on here.  Anyone want to give a good home to a free kitten?!?!

Paula, I'll take a good slice of the chocolate cake (if Mookie has left any) and a dish of peach cobbler; Ricki will take a slice of the yellow cake.

When I was out a few minutes ago, the temperature was up to seventy.

This morning, I finished cutting some broken branches out of one of the pussywillow trees, tomorrow promises to be a good day to put another coat of near-white paint on the stoop and perhaps cut some firewood; bzzzz!
