Good Monday morning everyone.  Bruce, thanks for the belated b-day wishes!

62 degrees with partly cloudy skies this morning.  Going for a high in the lower 80s today.  Tomorrow or Wednesday, we may see about 90 degrees.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Regular breakfast menu is on the warmer/serving station.

Not much happening around here this morning.  Just watching the school buses going up and down the street.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

Well, I finally made it back here.

I'm sorry I missed the BBQ today, and Pizza night last night, they both sounded great. A belated Happy Birthday to CW, and a happy Mother's Day wish as well.

I haven't really had the chance to look at the forum since April 26. I have been busy on various volunteer committees, and when I get home I have been too tired to spend much more time on the computer than to read and answer my e-mails.

I know it was April 26, because that was the day the CPR announced the closing of the Ogden Shops here in Calgary, after almost a century of operation. I spoke to my Mother about that a few days after it happened and she was kind of sad about that. She talked about the huge number of people she had known over the years who had come to this country after WWII, and didn't speak English, but who were not afraid of very hard work and got their first jobs in this country, there. I mentioned to her that if you thought about it, back then when there would be very few women working there outside of the offices, and families used to have five or six kids, with a workforce of 1400 at its' height, there could have been six thousand or more people directly related to the fortunes of the shop. After WWII that still would have made that group one of the top ten or so largest city's in Alberta. I just saw in the paper yesterday that our population here is still only 3,750,000, in an area slightly smaller than Texas.

The weather has finally gotten warmer. Right now, at ten to midnight, it is still 43°. It is raining now, but at least it is staying warm enough at night that the snow has stopped. We haven't hit 60° since May 2, but we are forecast for even better than that during the coming week. We had a fellow on the news Thursday night who told us that west of Calgary the snowpack is between 110 and 130% of normal. It hasn't really started to melt yet, but with the right combination of warm weather and rain, that snow could just literally explode into real flood conditions.

He mentioned there was more than that around Waterton(Waterton National Park and Glacier National Park). This tidbit could become interesting for railfans and railroaders. This would be in the area south of the CPR Crowsnest Sub. in Canada, and just north of the BNSF northern transcontinental line in the US, on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. So, just about the time things are starting to dry out in the Midwest, and along the Mississippi, there could be flooding starting in Montana. I think this is going to be one busy summer for weather news.

I guess that is all for now and it is good to be back.

Bruce

Beautiful day here today - cool but sunny.  I even got the front yard mowed!  The back will be a lengthy challenge.  All that rain, and then sun over the past few days have really given it a boost.

Called Mom - and left a message as her phone was off...  She called back.

The folks up north of me and in the Adirondacks are still dealing with high water and some flooding.  It may not be on the same scale as what's going on in the Mississippi valley, but that's small consolidation if your living room floor is under three feet of water...

Time for a bed time snack, which, of course, leads to heading for bed!

....Nice day here in Muncie.....Sunshine.  Seasonal temps.  Big crowd in Church.

Waited until close to 3 pm, and then headed to Ruby Tuesday's and met friends there for our Sunday meal.  No complaints on the food.  Our restaurant here in Muncie is a very nice one....Just a few years of age.

Sun still out late afternoon, so took advantage of that, and got another mowing in.  Very nice now.

Walt, thanks for taking the grill duty this afternoon!  It is so nice, to have a "day off" from cooking.  Everything looks absolutely delish!!

From the inactivity in here today, everyone must be out and about, enjoying the beautiful weather.  If any one bothers to come in tonight, have a good evening, take care and see you all in the morning.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!! Hope ALL the Moms (and everybody else) have enjoyed this nice partly sunny day like we've had here in Louisville; whether it was trackside at the local horse track, or at the train tracks.

Looks like this evening, the guys are grilling supper and the following will be on the menu:

Steaks, chicken, hot dogs, brats from the grill, and the "sides" will include baked beans, green beans, potato salad, slaw, tossed salad & "baked potatoes", both from the grill and regular oven.ChefDinnerBeer

Brief hard rains last evening as some weather was dropping down over Indiana, including some tornado activity over in the western, central part of the State, moving south.  So we saw none of that, just some rain.  Haven't looked at rain gauge yet....Guessing .7" or so.

Overcast {again}, this morning, but they say dry for most of the area today.

Pretty active night down in Darlington, S C....The Southern 500.  Pretty good {active}, race and some nasty accidents....but no one seriously hurt.  And....a rather dramatic finish.....Number 78 Chevy, {1st time winner}, pulling off the win at the very end over Edwards.  And of course, the usual tempers flared, {some other drivers}, rather badly at the end which required drivers to meet in the Nascar Trailer for "official words".  Don't know about any fines yet.

Edit: Actual rain overnight:  .6".

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Foggy here in Louisville this morning, with a temp of 61, 62 degrees.  We did get some rain overnight.  Heard on the NOAA Weather Radio that one of the counties in Indiana was under a tornado warning, about 10:15 last night, until 11 p.m.  Apparently, nothing came of it, as I haven't heard anything on the morning news about an actual sighting or touchdown of a tornado.

Want to wish all the ladies who are Moms a Very Happy Mothers Day!!!  Mothers are the best:  they feed us, care for us, wash/iron our clothes, cook, clean, wash/dry dishes, sweep, mop, dust and pick up after us.  And these days, that is along with working outside the home!!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  muffins, bacon, sausage, eggs and heart-shaped pancakes w/whatever flavor syrup you want, or toppings like strawberries, blueberries or whatever else you might like to have on your pancakes.

Think I'll start getting the grills cleaned up, and we'll cook out today for the Moms around here.  Everyone enjoy your morning, take care and see you all later.

You're so right, Bob:  we do have a big horse race today.  Like you, none of us have picked a horse.  I've spent most of my time today, in the kitchen:  baking chocolate chip cookies and cleaning out a cabinet.  Have a kitchen garbage bag almost completely filled with plastic ware to go out in the recycling bin tomorrow.  Did what few dishes I had, and now am on the computer.

It's a little bit early, but since no one has been in lately after 4, 5 p.m., decided to go ahead and post the Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu early:

1.   Anchovie

2.   Canadian bacon

3.   Cheese

4.   Chicago style

5.   Goetta

6.   Ham & green pepper

7.   Hawaiian

8.  Italian sausage

9.  Pepperoni/mushroom

10.  Supreme

And, of course, for dessert fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies (and ice cream, if you want ice cream w/your cookies.

Hope everyone is having a good afternoon, have a tremendous evening and take care.

The Friday Night Fish Fry is on the warmer/serving station.  All the regular fish menu and the regular sides and desserts.

Therapy went better today.  Not quite as sore and hurting as much as I was Tuesday afternoon.  Although a couple of the exercises did bother my left knee and leg; experienced some pain, but at least it wasn't excruciating.

Hope everyone has had a very good day, and also hope you have a good evening.  You all take care and see you tomorrow morning.

Curiosity here:  Been watching the cams in the Netherlands.  We have 4 peregrine chicks.  All feet and bellies.  All healthy and well stuffed.  Pigeons declining.....

5 eggs in the kestrel camp.  Keeping them warm.

Had an owl cam.  Birdfeeder during the day and inside an owl box at nite.  2 owlets.  But those Dutch - they are so ingenius.  They get the owls to fly up to the opening and toss in a mouse or two.  Eventually an owl will come out of there.

Always wondered how owls were made....Mischief  Now they can be mass-produced.

Think about it.....

Back to watching.

Good Friday morning everyone.  52 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Things are really hopping here in the River City this morning, with all the Derby 137 goings on. High today is to be around 63 degrees.

I want to thank each and every one of you for the very kind birthday wishes yesterday.  It was a very good day for me, except when my sister called at 10:57 last night.  I was already in bed, asleep:  Walt had to wake me up to talk with her!  My brother called me a little after 5 p.m., after he woke up (working 11 p to 7 a).  He was very tired, as he had to go to a chiropractor appointment after he got off work yesterday morning.

Very nice email, Joe!  Thank you!!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Along with bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits & gravy, there is a small selection of doughnuts, danish and bear claws on the serving station this morning.

Everyone have a very good morning, and I'll see you all after I get back from my therapy session this afternoon.

A nice day today. At seven this morning, the temperature was about forty--and it was close to seventy around three this afternoon.

There is concern that there will be flooding all along the Wasatch Front (the Wasatch Mountains are the Back Range of the Rockies in Utah and southern Idaho) because the snowpack is well over 150% of normal. It is believed, however, that it will not be as bad as it was in 1983 when we had rivers running down various streets since various conduits of drainage have been improved, especially in and around Salt Lake City.

Ricki is again getting physical and occupational therapy, which seem to be helping her (the therapists are not married to her, so they can be quite stern).

Larry, please wish your little birthday boy a Happy B-Day from another person who has a birthday today!

Mookie, when you made your post this morning, I was already back in bed, snoozing away!

Lunch/dinner is warmed up and on the warmer/serving station:  leftover meat loaf, green beans, and I made some more mashed taters & gravy, and baked some more crescent rolls.  Decided I wasn't cooking today:  that is my gift to myself.Gift

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, and take care.  Sun is shining brightly, breeze is a little cool, but current temp is in the low to mid 60s, if I remember correctly.

Thanks to everyone who has wished me a Happy Birthday so far!  It is great to know people do care about you, isn't it.

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, and I'll probably see you all later.

 locomutt:

Besides CW's Birthday today, we are also celebrating Cinco-De-Mayo day;

I think one of the original declarations said it happened in the New York City Harbor, when a shipload of mayonaise was sunk. Now the "Powers That Be" have found evidence that it was a steamboat sunk in the Ohio River trying to smuggle Miracle-Whip (labeled  as mayonaise) from Ohio to Kentucky.Smile, Wink & Grin

I think that the account of smuggling Miracle-Whip (who would want such?) is a canard. Big Smile

No, here is the true story:

Hellmann's Mayonnaise - a bit of history.
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was
manufactured in England . In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the
condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next
port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York . This would have
been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico .
But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York . The ship hit
an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly
awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so
great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe
to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is
known, of course, as -

 Sinko De Mayo
Back to business: Happy Birthday, Paula!Happy B-Day

Well, on the subject of Mayonaise vs Miracle-Whip----to each, their own.  I grew up on Miracle-Whip because my sister was allergic to certain ingredients that were in the mayo.(raw eggs?)

The "Great Steamboat Race" has been postponed this year, not because the river is too high, but because the "Belle of Cincinnati" was grounded on what they thought was a sandbar, but turns out to be a mound of Mayonaise that hadn't totally washed downstream.

Well, just a quick stop-by here as I have to go out to several stores to get candles for CW's Birthday Cake.

Larry, can you send a couple of extra fire extinguishers this way? Seems the city Fire Dept. won't send a pumper out this year due to some kind of a problem last year, and something about insurance costs.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  41 degrees here this morning, the last time I heard the temp.  Beautiful sun rise this morning, too.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  For breakfast this morning:   bear claws,  yellow cake w/chocolate icing (for Mookie, me and any other chocoholics), bacon ,sausage, tater tots, biscuits & milk gravy, and toast.

And yes, I will admit to being 59 years young today.

Our "Swamp" got mowed the other day, hopefully it will last for another several days.

Next rain scheduled is for Kentucky Oaks Day,( Fri.) I don't actually bet, bet I'm wondering if I shouldn't bet on a "Mudder" this year for the Derby.

Joe, reading for Matt's class sounds like a real winner.

Some pictures of those Pennsy E-8s would be welcome.
