Thanks for the Birthday wishes, guys. Well, I haven't done what I wanted to today, but it's still been a good day. And, since it's a four-day weekend courtesy of my employer, I'm sure I'll get to do what I want to on at least one of the next three days.
Supreme pizza, please...
Brian (IA) http://blhanel.rrpicturearchives.net.
CW, I think I will go with a Canadian Bacon pizza tonight.
Well the rain is over and it is sunny and 55° now. You have heard me complain about humidity before, but I will give you an example of what is normal here. We have had enough rain the last two days to warrant a Weather Warning, followed by sunny weather today, and with all the expected evaporation our Relative Humidity is only 41%. That is only after the temperature climbed over 50°. Earlier it was 38%. I have lived so long in these dry conditions that I really notice dampness in the air.
There were only localized report of flood damage, and none related to railways. People are starting wonder when the snow pack west of us is going to melt. The one thing we don't want to see is it suddenly get hot and have it all melt suddenly. Then we will have some trouble, big time.
Hope everyone is continuing to enjoy the US Memorial Day holiday. Our May holiday weekend was last weekend, called Victoria Day. Our day to remember fallen veterans and honour currently serving members of the military is November 11, Remembrance Day.
Quentin, I will join CW in wishing best wishes for your relative in the hospital.

Just have to play it one day at a time.

Good afternoon and peace be with you. Sunny and 85 in Carolina at present. It was a long and noisy afternoon and night yesterday. We had some stuff form up in mid afternoon and last until after 4 AM. It basically got over us and then stopped. Really heavy thunder from that one.
Happy birthday, Brian,. all the best on your special day
Everyone stay cool and safe

Good Saturday morning everyone. Joe, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning. Decided to sleep in this morning, and just now getting on the computer.
Brian, Happy Happy Birthday !!!!!!! Hope it is a very, very good one for you. May it be a day for you to just do (or not do) whatever you wish.
Think our current temp is somewhere in the mid to upper 60s, at least it was the last time I looked at the thermometer. Going for a high to today of 85. Maybe our grass will dry out some! Everyone have a good day, take care and I'll see you all this evening.
good morning

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
We have had several cool (in the forties) nights and barely warm days (maybe make into the sixties) for several days now, along with much rain (the grass cutters have had to delay their work).
We expect more rain (snow in the mountains) tomorrow afternoon, and Memorial Day will not be a day to be outside. Back in 1983, we already had at least two rivers running in Salt Lake City, one down State Street (N-S), which is more of a continuing main street than Main Street is, and one on 1300 South (E-W). Currently, the snowpack around here is 25% greater than it was in 1983, but the continuing cool weather has kept it from melting (look out, June!).
At least one ski resort, Snowbird, will remain open for skiing on weekends until 4 July. We spent a week up there at the end of May three years ago, and it was cold outside then, and there was still snow to be removed from public areas. We much prefer August even though we were able to go up for one afternoon and evening only last year. Maybe we can work it out to spend one night up there this summer.

AgentKid Thanks Larry. This radar weather map thing must be a growing industry. I never imagined there were so many choices considering I never used to look at them until yesterday. I liked the fact that the Weather Underground link had Irricana on it. It is feeling uncomfortably cool and damp in the apartment today, but hopefully that will change soon. Everyone have a good day and have a safe enjoyable Memorial Day holiday. So Quentin, I guess this makes it Indy 500 weekend. I will be watching the race. Bruce

So Quentin, I guess this makes it Indy 500 weekend. I will be watching the race.
The forecast of weather for the 500 so far, {that I've seen}, indicate a good chance to get the race in. Granted we've been on the run today, and I've not really tuned in to find out just what is going on in the world yet as well as our local forecast. But I soon will,
Looking forward, it was forecast to be pretty nice from Saturday on into Wednesday. And we're hoping that will be true, and work it's way east as well. We're headed out east, to the Pennsylvania homeland Saturday and intend to be back by Tue or Wed.
Our Oil Co's. true to form have raised gas prices yesterday {Muncie area}, 32 cents / gal. And it would not surprise me it would get another raise sometime this weekend.
But we'll wish a good, safe holiday to all reading this post.
Evening all. Thanks for the great fish CW!!!
Well tommrow we get to go up to North Judson IN and ride the NKP 765! i can't wait!

Been a very cool day here. Sun hasn't really been visible much, and I don't think the temp got over 70. The last time I noticed the temp, it was 69 degrees, and that was a couple of hours ago.
Our Friday Fish Fry is now on the serving station. All the regular list of fish, side dishes and desserts.
While I was doing my exercises earlier, got interrupted from doing them, by noise out front: about 30 kids were congregating in the gravel parking lot on the south side of our house and onto the sidewalk. There was a fight in progress. Called the police, but have no idea if they ever showed up or not. Probably not, knowing some of the officers in this neighborhood. (Happened right around end of 1st shift, beginning of 2nd shift.)
Everyone have a good evening and take care.
I have seen that facility on Google Maps. I was looking for something else a year or so ago and I remember seeing that big dome, but I had no idea what it was. I will have to try and find it again, and I have a pretty good idea where to look.
It is 43° right now and the rain is coming to an end. We are getting local warnings in the area about flooding, but no evacuations. And fortunately it was cool enough at higher elevations that rain didn't fall on the mountain snow pack and release a massive amount of runoff.
afternoon
busy night at work last night.since Matt has a summer birthday so we took in treats for his class today.Letting it dry out some more before I go into town.Maybe we'll see some more good stuff on CSX.Tom mamma went to the eye quack and she is all set.Glad to hear you're on the mend.Cw thanks for supper.Have sis coming tommorow for a visit.

Hey all, long time no visit. Been too busy with work, Facebook, and TrainStation on Facebook. Fun game.
Anyhoo, Larry, in answer to your question, Willy's been hanging out on Facebook lately as well. I get timely weather forecasts from him there.
Good morning Americans, it's Friday! 73 and partly clear in Carolna. headed for 85 and thunder later. In fact, radar shows a line of heavy weather in the western part of the state at present.
Quack day went well. Quack was very pleased with the way me hoof is coming along. The one downside is that he stopped free access to the kitchen, and now requires me to use a walker in the house! Bummer!
The wife has an appt with her quack today, and hopefully. she will get her wishes granted.
About all for now, See yall later. Go in peace
Bruce - it does appear that radar is on 10 minute intervals. That would again be because of the "volume scan" method of gathering data - the "ground scan" (zero degrees elevation) is only done once every 6-10 minutes.
The "call sign" for the radar looks to be "XSM," so I googled it and found this!!!
Weather Underground has a decent version, too.
I can't seem to find the latitude and longitude for the XSM radar. Even though they give Strathmore as the location, it could simply be "kinda close" to there. If you're over in that area, look for a big white golf ball up on a tower (and at the highest elevation available) - that'll be it, unless they made the dome a different color...
Meanwhile, it's wet here today, and looks like it will be all day. We didn't get any severe stuff yesterday - it all stayed east and south of us.
Speaking of weather - where's Willy?

Good Friday morning everyone. 57 degrees w/cloudy skies here in Louisville this morning. Our high today should reach about 75 degrees, if the sun decides to come out for awhile.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: bacon, eggs, toast, blueberry muffins and bear claws.
Hope you all have a very good morning, and I'll see you all later.
.....Yes, the NWS is a very similar one too. Info no doubt from same sourse. Both are good to have access to.
I know I was able to monitor very closely the red boxes, of warnings all around us last night. For a time of about 11:20 pm, I was thinking this might be our "turn" at this stuff.
But....Lucked out. Very little wind....one inch of rain in the rain gauge from overnight. Very few leaves blown down from neighbors trees west of us. Indiana did suffer quite a bit of damage in several sectors. In fact, Muncie {5 mi. to city center from us}, had a pretty hard serious mess of hail....We saw none.
Larry, thank you very much. If I understand it correctly, is showing ten minute jumps of the previous hour?
I am going to have to give this site much more attention.
The site is labelled Strathmore, but that centre point looks like it is a few miles east of Keoma, the next station south of Irricana, on the long gone Langdon Sub. Dad used to book the grain shipped out of the elevators there.
Bruce - here is Environment Canada's version - pretty broad. This site has a display similar to the NWS stuff I linked for Indianapolis.
I've got to go track some weather headed our way. They haven't issued any warnings on it (just an advisory), but it looks rather "interesting...."
I've never really followed radar maps before. I tend to just look at the static information and the weather forecast. I was just looking at one of the local TV stations radar maps which they purchase from some service. It runs a loop of the 2½ hours prior to the top of the current hour. In a fast changing situation I suppose even that would have its' uses, but it is so socked in today the map hardly changed at all. I'm not sure if there is a Canadian equivalent to the NWS map.
One thing led to another so I wasn't able to get in here this morning, but the big rain storm is still happening, only slower than previously forecast. It was supposed to end by midday today, but it will continue into tomorrow now. Apparently the storm centre stalled southwest of us over the Spokane, WA area. We are still looking at up to 1½" of rain. The cloud cover has kept the temperature in the high forties, so in this area snow is off the table. At higher elevations south and west of us it still might be possible. It is 45° right now.
I see I've gotten here just about supper time, so I will have some Sloppy Joes with fries please.
Thanks CW.
ModelcarSorry for the messup.....Try: "theindychannel.com"
Not bad, but I'll still take the NWS feed - it actually showed being a minute (not that that's significant) more current than the indychannel feed when both were updated at the same time.
The last cats/dogs rain we had was around noontime today. Appliance tech was just leaving to go get the parts to fix our freezer. The fan quit working sometime last night. Didn't know it until this morning. Always something, isn't it, when you own a home. (or rent, or anything else)
For supper tonight:
1. Sloppy Joes w/fries and garden salad
2. Pizzas: anchovie, cheese, Hawaiian, pepperoni/mushroom and supreme.
Everyone have a good evening, keep as dry as possible (we have a pretty good chance of some more rain until late tonight), and take care.
P.S. Tom, hope you got a good report from the Doc today!
tree68 Are you sure that's the right URL for the radar you're using? All I get when I go there is pages of "sponsored listings" - ads. Here's the NWS site for northern Indiana (station ID KIWX). This is the Indianapolis radar (station ID KIND). It should be noted that with the exception of a few TV stations that have purchased their own equipment, pretty much everybody uses the product provided by NWS.

Wow - I haven't checked in on the Netherlands cams lately - that's one BIG hole they're digging (visible from the church steeple cam).
Justin have fun with the 765.Scattered thunderstorms around. We don't need the downpour we had last night.Going to do chores inside and check Matt's homework.Cw thanks for supper. Please this weekend remember those who gave everything so we could be free.
Afternoon all, today is the last day of school!!!
I’ve been doing well on my finals except for my Biology final which I got a D- on… Oh well. I passed the class with a B.
Last night we got some fierce storms. I’d venture a guess to say we got about 3 inches last night. All the local creeks are flooded and the Wabash River is on the rise. It’s still raining and it looks like it won’t stop until tomorrow night into early Saturday morning.
I hope that this summer will be a good one. This Saturday, we are headed up to North Judson Indiana for the Memorial Day NKP 765 run. I can’t wait to see her in steam! It will be the largest operating steam locomotive I’ve ever rode behind.
Well, only one more final exam that I’m exempt from. Hope you all will have a good rest-of-the-week and a good Memorial Day weekend!
theindychannel.com This is where we can bring active radar right to our computer in current time. One can also select the "severe weather" sites to add to the showing active radar.
I can't be sure, haven't tried it, but I believe this can be moved to almost any location in the country. I've been using it all this week with all the severe weather we've been having, after it's been passing thru the Oklahoma area, etc....
Last night we had tornado warning "red boxes" all around us and spread all over Indiana....Some locations did have tornado touchdowns and much damage here in our State. We {again}, lucked out somehow.....the red line lessening in intensity as it passed us a bit before midnight.
Hail....damaging hail, was wide spread here in our State last night. Massive trees uprooted, and buildings wiped clear of their foundations. Don't know what about fatilities yet.
If that website is expandable to be useful to you folks, it's a good one....We were given the time {by the minute}, when the front, massive rain, etc....would pass the various locations, and it was very accurate.
grampaw pettibone Where did you find active radar? only thing avalable here is a time delay loop. Thanks

You can get some pretty up-to-date radar images at http://www.nws.noaa.gov/ - just tunnel down to the radar images for your area (I prefer the composite loop) then save that page as a favorite. Each display is for a single radar, but you can easily jump to neighboring radars (within the US).
A note about how the NEXRAD radars gather their data -
A complete "round" of data gathering on the current NWS radars (called a volume scan) takes six minutes, as the radar makes multiple revolutions at different elevations (the radar beam is relatively narrow - rather like a pencil). The data is then processed to provide not only a two dimensional map of the returns, but a three dimensional cross section of the sky around the radar. By knitting together the information from all radars, a large area can be accurately displayed. The six minutes it takes to do a volume scan, plus the short time it takes for the computer to process it, may explain some or all of your time delay.
The Intellicast.com radar suite includes the "radar summary," which not only notes things like storm rotation and hail, but displays how high the cloud tops are (at least the parts holding precipitation), which can be an indicator of how strong a storm will be. You'll find some of the monsters on the plains pushing 50 and 60 thousand feet.
Before computers were available to put all that information together, the only way to view a vertical profile of a storm was to stop the radar rotation and manually make it scan up and down. There was no radar/computer interface, so pictures were taken of significant phenomena. One radar I worked on had a main screen which would hold the display for a while, allowing the operator to take pictures or trace returns on the screen with a grease pencil before erasing the display and trying again.
